Starting with their easy-to-navigate-and-reserve website, I couldnt have asked for a better experience from this family-run bike shop. I did a 3-day rental on a flat-bar road bike with GPS. The bike was basically brand new, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff fitted it to my height. After a couple of questions about my cycling preferences and skill, they recommended two excellent, scenic rides that really gave me better geographical understanding of the city: Springwater Volcano (32 miles) and Council Crest & Pittock (28 miles with lots of elevation). Clearly Portlands famous bike-friendliness is more than just infrastructure, its also the people who rent, sell and service the bikes. 6 stars out of 5.
These guys are great! I just rented a bike from them for three days and each day they gave me a new place to explore with really good directions. They have great bikes for a reasonable fee and you just can’t go wrong. Seriously I’ll be coming back to them every time I’m in town! I can’t thank them enough for making my trip!
I love this bike shop and go here all the time to rent bikes. The customer service is great, the shop is great, the bikes are great. Cant go wrong with this place. Each one of the employees is amazing, and their prices aren’t too bad either. I don’t see myself ever going to any other bike shop, and when I finally get my own bike, this will be the place I take it to for any repairs!
My husband and I took the foodie tour with Renee and she was the best! The tour was fun, informational, and had the perfect amount of different types of food to try. We learned so much about the city and enjoyed every minute of the ride. Renee helped us plan other parts of our trip and was extremely helpful and kind. We have nothing but exceptional things to say about Cycle Portland!
My husband and I did a guided tour (the intro one) to Portland and it was great! We learned a lot about the city and saw some cool sights. I would recommend going on a Saturday morning at 10 so you can see the farmers market; we were able to walk around a little which was nice. We did the option to keep our bikes until 6 and they gave us a map and lots of directions/places to see. We highly recommend Cycle Portland and will use them again!
I rented a Giant carbon frame road bike. Nice to have on a free day while on a trip to Portland. The staff was great, very nice and helpful to work with. This is the second time Ive rented a road bike from Cycle Portland while I was on vacation in Portland. Had a nice 22 mile ride around Sauvie Island
My fourth time renting with them. They arent far from the rail line and you can hop the train right from the airport. Who needs to rent a car? They are always great and so are the bikes!
Ive lived in Old Town for a couple of years now and hadnt been here for a tune-up due to Covid restrictions but, Ill say Ive had the best bike experience here out of my years in Portland. The staff is amiable, helpful, and quick to suggest amendable solutions to make your bike riding experience better. My last bike tune-up was finished within two days, and I was thrilled once I had her back. They made my bike purr like a kitten. It was more expensive than expected, but I was prepared for the news, luckily.
Very friendly, flexible, and knowledgeable staff. Limited on site stock of general goods compared to some shops with larger footprints, but a great fleet of rental bikes. Im visiting from out of town, and they made the rental process very easy.
My partner and I did the biking tour of Portland breweries and we were so pleased with it! James was super informative and very considerate of both of our riding abilities. The spots he took us to were great and he had lots of great recommendations for the remainder of our trip. Would definitely recommend this tour for anyone coming through Portland!
James an Crew, a great resource, very knowledgeable and friendly! Very impressed with a hard business to make money at.They went above and beyond to make sure I was a happy customer. I highly recommend them for all things cycle related! Thanks guys! See you soon.
My mother and I came to Portland from Chicago with no geographical knowledge of the area. James provided us with bikes that fit our respective sizes and recommended us with a path that had beautiful views. The store was well kept, organized, and James wore a mask for us the whole time.If you are looking to rent a bike I highly recommend coming here!Thank you James!
Todd was a fantastic tour guide. His knowledge of the city provided insightful information. He was able to offer recommendations which made our trip to Portland even more memorable.
Gracious owners, friendly staff, and nice bikes. The owners bought this place a couple months back and have done a phenomenal job. The bikes are modern and high end. They also offer tours which look really nice. There are a lot of tents around the shop, but dont let that turn you off. Folks keep to themselves and it was fairly quiet. Just a typical city.It was a hot sunny day when I went to rent a bike from them. I ended up almost passing out in their store. They gave me a tangerine, water, and told me to take as much time as I needed. It was all smooth sailing after that with a nice trip to Sauvie Island. The road bikes have two water holders that can accommodate a large water bottle so dont forget to bring water and stay hydrated.
Kurt was an amazing tour guide! Definitely worth the money if you want a good overview and education of Portland. The bikes were awesome and the tour was amazing. There are a lot of homeless people living in the downtown area which was shocking at first, but they were all friendly and did not cause any problems.
I cant recommend this place enough for bike rentals. For one, it is a full service bike shop, so their bikes are tuned up and ready to go. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, both about bikes and the Portland area. They were great about recommending places to see while on our rental bikes.I rented one of the Giant brand road bikes. No exaggeration when I say it was the smoothest bike Ive ever ridden. I was so impressed. Also, make sure you follow one of their pre-planned tour routes. They give you a GPS device that guides you through your route and mounts on your handlebars. It made the whole experience very seamless and pleasant. They have loads of pre-planned routes of varying lengths to suit your fitness level. One thing to watch out for, and nothing to do with the shop - lots of homelessness in the area, so just be aware of that.I will definitely be back when I return to Portland!!
My go to bike shop to take my road and mountain bike in for tune-ups and supplies. The staff is always warm, welcoming and highly knowledgeable. Their brew tour is a must and back at the shop, they have beer on tap and socks for purchase! Sure, there are other tour/rental companies BUT the location and bikes available here is the way to Cycle Portland!
They charge $75 for a standard Multi-speed, 3-day bike rental but they want it returned halfway through the third day. 3 days would mean returning it in 72 hours - not 6pm the third day. Thats only 2 & 1/3 of a day. Really unfortunate business practice.
Great spot—friendly service. Flat-bar road bike was a great main mode of transport for a week of cruising around PDX. Thanks, y’all. ✌🏼🐻
Had a great bicycle tour of Portland. Rode over two bridges, through the PSU campus, Pearl District and asking the river. Our tour guide was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and kept track of all us Flatlanders, making sure no one was left behind.Lots of fun and a must do of youre coming to Portland
We had 2 bikes worked on on Monday. The service was great and priced very reasonably. The shop was friendly and very accommodating. Great experience. The real service came on Thursday when one of the owners called and asked if I was missing one of my bikes. i told him I did not think so but would go look. Sure enough my bike Was missing. He told me he just saw my bike and would go get it for me. By the time I got to the shop he had already gotten my bike back.He had noticed it on the street and was sure it was my bike. What a great guy. I am so glad to have my bike back.
The lovely owners of Cycle Portland, a husband and wife team, and they both rock! Both are extremely knowledgable, resourceful, and very friendly. My bike, and my trailer were taken in by Cycle Portland and they were quick, thorough, and very fairly priced.I would recommend Cycle Portland for bike (and trailer) maintenance, bike rentals (e-bikes, regular bikes, tour bikes too), bike tours, and I recommend them for an overall shop as they have some really cool merch for sale.
Rented three 8 speed bikes and 2 ebikes for my family here. Bikes were great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Only negative was the wahoo gps they offer for rental. These devices are probably pretty old. They will not be of any use to you if you deviate from the loaded route, 1.5” x 1.5” monochrome screens are hard to read, and the battery life seemed like it might be a bit short (ours was down to less that 30% battery after 4 hours). The staff failed to let us know that if you go off route that you will need to figure out how to get back on route without help from the gps. A much better way to go is to use a smart phone app to plan and ride your route. They refunded our gps rental fee when we told them of our problems.
I rented a bike there a year or so go for an out of town friend/visitor who wanted to ride with me. It was easy, fast, and a good experience, and my friend was happy with his bike.
Kurt and James had amazing customer service skills and were both super friendly and helpful! I highly suggest this shop to anyone trying to fix a bike or wanting to rent one out. Thank you guys for your time it was very appreciated🙏
Really great service and great bikes. They waited for us even when we were few minutes late. Totally recommended.
I had an absolutely amazing experience at this shop. Customer service was A+ and the bike was in amazing shape. Super grateful that I chose this shop and would definitely return here first if I ever rent another bike!
The best bike rental in Portland! Owners are super sweet and the bikes are really affordable. Riding around the water front was the highlight of my trip :)
This is a must if you visit Portland, our guides were very knowledgeable. Monroe told us about a historic double decker bridge. We also got to meet Bear, their dog not Bear Grylls unfortunately :( . Overall very great experience definitely gonna do it again!
The Cycle Portland Bike Tours is in a word, FANTASTIC! Carl and Renee deserve your business. This energetic couple recently took over Cycle Portland Bike Tours. If want to take in Portland by bike, this is your place. The customer service is superb. The vibe is awesome. They will meet your biking needs. If you want to roll solo, they will set you up. If you want an organized bike tour, they specialize in that, too. Carl and Renee know the city inside and out and they know bikes. Combine that and you have found their passion. Their vibe is contagious, in a good way, and we all need more good in this world. Go see them!
This was such an amazing tour. I was visiting from Denver and wanted to know a little about the culture of Portland and what better way then Cycle Portland Tour! James was great! So friendly and knowledgeable of the city’s history. I felt so welcomed. I wished I could do this back home. I highly recommend this for anyone!!!
I was in Portland visiting my daughter and her family. We decided a nice bike ride would be a good way to spend the afternoon. It is during trying times that I visited Cycle Portland. I am from a small town in Colorado and not accustomed to “big city” pandemic situations. When entering I was a bit skirmish. However, the shop owners treated me with kindness and seemed genuinely happy to have my business.I have rented bikes in many places, including Canada.Cycle Portland had the most reasonable rates I’ve encountered. I honestly expected a poorly maintained bike. However the bike rode as good as my personal bikes (of which I have many).I would highly recommend Cycle Portland and I would gladly rent from them again.
James was amazing! Very informative and made sure I knew what I needed to get my ride started. The prices are remarkable, and the customer service was worth every penny even when my fat butt couldn’t do the riding all day I never got any judgement from James. I even got to meet his dog! This was a great first stop in Portland.
Super friendly, helped me with a flat even though I had a rented bike from another shop in town. Thanks for the air!
Excellent customer service. We bought 2 used road bikes here today and are so impressed with this bike shop. The staff were friendly, helpful and encouraging. I did not feel pressured into buying more than I could afford. They helped with making sure we got the right bikes for our needs and tweaked them for comfort. We are so impressed that it will be worth the drive down from Washington with any future needs and of course we will recommend this shop to our family and friends. Thanks guys for being awesome!
This place is awesome. James and Kurt were super friendly and accommodating. Kurt was our tour guide for the Essential Portland tour and was very knowledgable about so many different aspects of the city. The route itself was great and the bikes were super smooth and fun to ride. Shifting was a breeze.Afterwards we had a fun conversation with both James and Kurt. We will definitely be coming back and also recommend this to anyone in or visiting Portland!!!
Great tour guide! Comfy and well-maintained bikes. Great way to see the city and hear about the history. Saturday Farmers Market stop was an added bonus!
Awesome tours of the city - even self-guided so you can go at your own pace! The mural tour really shows the artsy side of this city.
Best place in Portland to rent bikes! Also has super cute jewelry, socks, and stickers!
We had such a great time! So much knowledge, good bike route, nice beer! They’re very personable, we’ll definitely be back when we visit from Denver! Thanks Guys!
These folks are great! I went in for bike repair and they were quick, fun and did a great job on my bike! Prices were more than reasonable and I will definitely be back. This is a new bike shop and I want to support them in getting roots in the ground.
Great service. Very friendly and efficient. The bikes were in perfect condition. We will definitely go back.
Our tour guide was nice and informative. Made my reservation the night before without any problems. Bike and helmet where good condition. We enjoyed bike ride.
Friendly and knowledgable, the crew at Portland Cycle are outstanding. With their expertise and attention to detail, I was fitted for a rental bike and explained a new route that then felt (and was!) easy and fun to try. Highly recommend.
James was our tour guide for the bewery tour, loved all the information he gave us about Oregon. James is an amazing your guide and I would definitely come back again to do tour with him.
Took a bike tour of Portland with Jesse and Justin(?). The guys in the shop were very welcoming and helpful. The tour itself was super fun and chuck full of history and cool information. Our group was about 10 people, all adults of varying ages & physical fitness levels and it was doable for everyone. The bikes themselves were in good working order and very comfortable to ride. Definitely worth a try. Be sure to buy your ticket directly with them, versus online with viator. Youll pay less when you buy direct & they will have more flexibility on schedules. Happy riding!
Great place very nice young couple love it
I was in Portland for a few days. Im an avid biker at home and wanted to travel Portland mainly by bike. I rented a road bike from Cycle Portland and had a great experience! They have good quality road bikes for rent and clearly list out what size frames they have in stock and they reserve that size for you once you select it, which is great to ensure you get a good bike that fits you well. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Justin was a pleasure to talk to and gave lots of great tips about what to check out! I highly recommend!
FAST repairs! These guys know bikes, and understand cyclists needs. If youre looking for a repair shop, this is it.
Ran a serial number on a found bike, came back to my bike, and called me right away to return it. Friendly, kind people who are doing good honest work. Thank you both so much for all your help.
Well, I feel like our experience was a God thing. Jesse showed my husband and I around Portland and it was fantastic! Loved it just being the three of us, (wouldnt think that happens too often). We did the 10AM Essential Tour which, I must say had an amazing amount of history to it. Gave us a great understanding of Portland from its history to its geographical location (very helpful) and Portlands historical development to todays existing life. What a fabulous city! I highly recommend this tour and company and of course, Jesse, in particular.
Showed up with a gaggle of people and Evan and his staff set us on our way for a bike along the river. Bikes were in working order and we had a great time! Affordable and easier than tracking down enough city bikes for a group of 7. 👍
These guys did a great job especially during this difficult time. They picked up my bike, serviced it and Returned it quickly. I’ll never go anywhere else for bike repairs.
Loved it. Sam was an amazing tour guide. Lot of fun facts about Portland. Would definitely recommend this for someone visiting Portland for the first time.
Great service! Fantastic day of biking for a birthday party
Went with a group and had a perfect afternoon - a little riding, a bunch of tasty beer and everyone went home happy. I think our guide was named Sam and he was cool. Highly recommend for an afternoon activity while visiting Portland.
Fun group activity. Anna was a great guide. She was nice, personable, and knew the area and history really well. The ride was smooth and easy with great stops along the way.
A friend and I rented a couple e-Bikes from Cycle Portland for 8 days. Ever person we spoke with at Cycle Portland were extremely helpful and seemed very passionate about their jobs. Guthrie even blocked off a parking space for our RV and helped us get the bikes loaded onto the RV and put a heavy duty lock and chain on them. He gave us a good run down of everything we needed to know and made sure the bikes were adjusted well for both of us.The e-Bikes were a blast! My friend and I both want one of our own now. So much fun! The extra oomph that they give you on the hills makes you feel like youre much more in shape than you really are. The e-bike rental is on the pricey side, but I did quite a bit of checking around and Cycle Portlands prices are competitive. The experience was well worth it.
We went to experience Portland from the ground up and had a wonderful experience. The biking part was much easier than I expected with all these hills in Portland, and we got to see the sights this beautiful city is famous for, plus a small history lesson and explanations of the whys and wheres. Our guide was very knowledgeable and careful with our biking group: this is definitely something I would advise any visiting (active) tourist or inhabitant to do!!
We visited Portland last weekend and decided to do the Brews Cruise offered. Neil was our tour guide and he was outstanding. He was extremely knowledgeable about the breweries and Portlands beer scene, as well as city history and politics. I was a little intimidated on the city streets with the bike, since I havent been on a bike in years, but he clearly laid out our path at each pit stop. We stopped first at a park along the river to regroup and admire the scenery. We had a group of six visitors, which was perfect. We visited two breweries, including Base Camp, which was my favorite. Then we had a pint at the shop, where I bought a pair of souvenir socks, and we were ready for dinner and more beer! I definitely recommend this tour for people wanting to see a piece of the city with a local, but not get TOO touristy. Thanks Neil!
I absolutely loved doing the Food Tour, it is one of the best ways to get to know Portland. Our Tour Guide Sierra was fantastic. There was only two of us on the tour so she was very informative on everything we asked and picked all the great food spots to check out. The experience was like hanging out with a friend. We were so sad when it came to an end. Overall, Id recommend taking any of their tours but Id highly recommend the food tour for the foodies out there. Thanks for such a great time!
Efficient, reasonably priced, good quality service. I never felt like they were trying to sell me things I didnt need. I didnt take a tour but they seem fun, too. And the funky sock selection is fantastic!
Evan is great. We used Cycle Portland for a bike parade from our wedding ceremony to reception. He showed up at our ceremony venue with 30 bikes that he then picked up at our reception venue. He came prepared with bikes for everyones height, helmets, and a quick reminder of how to safely ride a bike for our friends who havent ridden one since they were a child. He even followed us for a bit to make sure it went smoothly. And it did! It was a major highlight of our wedding day!
Good joy visiting have fun for holiday
Awesome tour of the city! They were ultra prepared for any inclement weather. Staff was extremely friendly. Booked the 10am tour & was able to visit extra parts of the city b/c no one else was there. I learned so much about Portland
My wife and I were on vacation and this bike rental was our favorite part about Portland. We rented bikes for the whole day and did a tour where they explained the history of Portland as we rode around town. Then after the tour they recommended some amazing places to go afterwards. I would highly recommend this shop to any one. The service was outstanding, the tour was very well given, and the bikes they rented to us were very nice.
Im so glad we decided to rent bikes for the day in Portland! Portland is extremely bike friendly and biking is the best way to see and experience the city. My bike had some maintenance issues mid day, but we were able to return it to the shop to get it fixed up and they discounted the price for us. Overall, we were happy.
Great bikes to ride around the city, we had a blast! Very friendly staff. They took the time to recommend us some amazing local places that we never would have found by ourselves, and we ended up having the best day in Portland! We definitely recommend this place. :)
Took a bike tour through Portland and had a great time.
This is the perfect place to rent bikes and take a tour. My wife and I rented great road bikes for a week. We were set to go in no time with the right gear and right sized bike. The tour with Guthrie was fun, educational and really helped us get the lay of the land.Mike was a great help getting our bikes fitted. You want a bike tour--you want to rent bikes--go to Cycle Portland.
Was in town visiting and these guys were great! The bike tour was really nice, easy paced, and they had a lot of knowledge about the city. Afterwards they let us hang around to warm back up and they help with more tips and suggestions about places to go to. I would highly recommend.
My boyfriend and I took the Foodie Field Trip with Sierra. We were the only ones signed up, so it felt like a private tour experience. Sierra was really personable and she guided us through the city safely. We had a ton of fun! We biked through some really pretty sites throughout the city and stopped at a local coffee/chocolate shop, Cartopia for lunch, and 50 Licks ice cream for dessert. She also had some really cool background stories for each stop and for a lot of places we biked through. She was also really great at recommending other areas to check out around town. I would definitely recommend this tour.
My friends and I rented 3 single speed bikes for one day to ride around Portland! The guys at Cycle Portland got us set up quickly with bikes, helmets, locks, and maps and we were on our way. Portland is a great place to bike ride around - with bike lanes and places to lock up our bikes throughout the city! Definitely worth it and would do it again.
We took the foodie field trip with Sierra and it was awesome! She was super friendly and made the tour that much more enjoyable. Of course, you cant go wrong with a food tour! 3 delicious stops 😋 and a nice bike ride around the city.
You won’t meet nicer bros. Highly recommend the hybrid bikes for city exploring. Rented for the day and those steeds took care of us. Would rent again no doubt.
This is a great shop every time I come in here they help me out even if its just advice on with to do for my newest build they always make the time to help me out they have a great team thats
This staff was exceptional. We rented bikes twice and kept them all day until the return time at 6 pm. There is so much to explore on bike and the town is super bike friendly. One day we couldnt make a prescheduled tour. Even though they had a 48 hour cancellation policy, they gave us credit towards rentals the next day. Ask them any questions about Portland. They are very knowledgeable.
Rented bikes for the day. $20, helmet/lock included. Outstanding customer service. I felt extremely welcomed as a tourist. We received recommendations on where to go and routes to take. I got a flat tire but called them up, they directed me toward a repair shop, and reimbursed me. Will come back!
Ben, our guide, was great: friendly, talkative, and knowledgeable as he was studying Urban Planning. Highly recommend doing first thing when you get her to understand the city and it’s life especially since it’s probably the bike-friendly Capitial of the America. So good. Go.
Went here to get a flat repaired on my bike as I work down the street. I didn’t have tools on me, my mistake, and decided it was totally worth paying for someone to pop a new tube in and do it for me. I took my bike over and was not really treated badly as much as made to feel like I was interrupting the mechanic’s friend visiting and/or their life in general. The mechanic was dismissive, rude, and multiple times told me “I don’t know what you are talking about” or “ I don’t know what that means.” These were the responses I got about asking about how long it would take, and where to leave my very large box bike. I was shocked. Really. Then when I went to pick it up, another person was there, was much kinder to me and this restored my feelings, till..... low and behold, I take off to my destination and my front brakes, the flat that was fixed, were not hooked back up!!!! I crashed into a curb, with my huge bike. I will never return, thank god I didn’t have the kids in the bike yet.
Renting a bike here was quite simple. You come in, ask for a bike, and come out with one within 30 mins (depending on how busy they are). I had never rented a bike before that moment (late June 2015). The people were kind and helpful and made the experience rather simple. I am definitely coming back for the service. =]
We had such a great time with our tour guide Sierra! She took to us to delicious places and made the ride very safe. Guthrie was so helpful with our reservation too. We definitely recommend this company.
Had a fabulous time with Alec the tour guide! He was very informed and very personable. The whole experience made for a great day learning about Portland and drinking some great beer. Recommend it if you have the time!
Absolutely excellent experience in purchasing one of their Breezer rental bikes that was being retired. Superb staff effort to assist with customization of the bike with new lock and cargo basket and very reasonable price for the bike and labor! They also helped register the sale on line so I have the serial number, photos, and lock code in the cloud verifying ownership. Highly recommended.
Must do. Recently went to Portland with my husband on our honeymoon and started our first full day in town with the Essential Bike Tour. Glad we did! Our tour guide Neil gave a great tour and also made other recommendations for our time in Portland, thankfully we followed some advice and had a great stay. If visiting Portland for the first time, take this to get familiar with town and you can even rent the bikes for longer and explire even more!
Great tour of Portland. Thanks Jesse for a fun afternoon. Sandy and I had a great time and learned a lot!Peter
Been going here for about two years for various repairs and tune-ups. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, also hooks up a local discount if you work nearby. During most days I can drop bike off and get it back for my evening commute the very same day.
These guys are awesome, friendly, and will set you up right. I come here for my parts I need and Im always greeted by a smile.. great people excellent customer service...
Ben was amazing, he knew a lot about the history of Portland and other tourist information. Was a lot of fun and felt very safe as he guided us around the city streets.
I highly recommend this tour. It is an easy ride and was fun to see parts of the city we may not have seen on our own. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and the bikes were in great condition. A must do!
We rent with Cycle Portland every time we make the trip and weve always been really happy but they just keep getting even better- the inventory, the service, everything. At times we have even had free bikes available at our hotel and we will still rent here because they provide so much with your rental (helmet, front bag, lock, lights) and the bike quality is so much better (as a daily rider, no thanks to a fixie cruiser). Everyone is really nice and helpful and the bikes are always in great shape- you wont be disappointed.
We rented 2 single speed bikes for the day for only $40. Great way to get familiar with Portland! Awesome service, extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back there next time I am in Portland!
We rented bikes for a few days from these folks. They were very good about offering directions and explanations of the bikes. The bikes themselves were straightforward and well maintained. I would rent from them again.
Rented the 8 speed then the electric assist bike. They were very helpful. I was given a splash guard on a rainy day for free. I was offered discounts. Awesomeness
