They charge way too much for labor. I would expect that from Bike Gallery/Trek corporate chain, but usually local shops are not this greedy. I was about to have kick stand shortened and they wanted $8.00! I rode down to Tomcat Bikes and the guy did it for free in 12 seconds. I gave him a coffee card just because... I mean how cool is that!
Great service and talented shop! Really appreciate the support with normal small things to get my bike back on the road. Just needed a specific bolt, a chain and a shifter cable and they got me going at a great price.
Ive been coming to Joe Bike for 3 years now. Theyve done multiple tune ups and bike fixes for me, all of which felt great! Most recently they helped me complete my first bike build, offering parts advice and install tips. Above all, the crew has been kind and quick to help. Totally recommend.
Joe Bike made my wildest dreams come true. Ive been dreaming of a steel 1x11 for a while and Joe had the perfect inventory to choose from. Unfortunately I live in Washington State, but I was able to chat with them on the phone to determine the perfect fit. They were closing down for a week due to COVID, starting the day after my order and they made an extra effort to box it up and ship. Much appreciated, Im one super satisfied customer! Highly recommend this shop!
It all started with Joe Bike having the bike I wanted — a Marin Nicasio +. Like the bike and have converted it to a fun gravel EBike (fwd). Took it in for 90 day tune up and got to experience activity in the store. Tune up was quick, thorough, and garnished with good bike conversations. Great group and place!
Joes bike is great. If I could give it 10 stars I would.
Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I would highly recommend this bike shop to anyone looking for any bike related services. Thank you for your help!
Great work done by Carl. Thank you Joe Bike.
Great local bike shop. Tons of gear, accessories, maintenance stuff, and friendly people to bounce ideas off of and ask for recommendations. Check them out!
As an experienced bikeshop employee and lasting bicycle enthusiast, I give Joe Bike a solid 5/5. We have been all over the greater Portland area looking for a MTB and found no place more inviting or more positive than Joe Bike. It was by chance that they had a bike, as that is just the way the industry is right now, but that wasnt what earned 5 stars. Their attention to service and explanation of bike features as well as their insight of the bicycle community was unmatched in our vast tour of Portland bikeshops this week.
Very Covid Friendly. I just got a tune up and the change is like night and day. The bike is so smooth now. They even got a bolt in on my front rack that I couldn’t get on.I’ve been here a couple other times for bike lights and they have several option which is nice.
I recently purchased a new gravel bike from Joe Bike and the whole experience was the best I’ve had in a bike shop. I don’t know a ton about bikes and they were super patient and informative. A few days after I bought my bike from them, the chain got gunked up from the factory lube on it and they offered to clean it all up right away. I can’t thank the staff enough, Matthew especially for being so helpful and kind. Huge props to this shop, it’ll definitely be my new go-to.
They screwed up the job, tried to convince me it was fine, then when I insisted on going back to get it corrected they charged me twice the price they quoted me over the phone. Id recommend Portland Bicycle Emporium on Division and 48th.
This is the best bike shop in Portland!
Jordan helped me with all of my needs, which were difficult! Thank you!!!!
Some of the kindest, most helpful people Ive ever had the chance to work with. Very knowledgeable staff, and if they dont have what youre looking for they dont hesitate to tell you who does. I really appreciate that every time I come here I get A tier customer service, and I usually come away having learned a thing or too as well.
We live close to Joe Bike and I am so grateful that the local bike store is so amazing. They really know their stuff and do not mind taking the time to explain things. We will always be loyal customers.
Such a great local bike shop! Matthew was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I feel as if I’ve found a trusted bike doctor to look after my bike. Thank you, Joe Bike!
Wow. The dude, Bill - he is amazing. I was struggling to find a certain brand and honestly was getting frustrated with other sales people but seriously I was surprised with his kindness and helpfulness! Thank you!
Excellent, prompt and personalized customer service.I recently ordered a former demo fork from Joe. When it arrived, a small piece was missing. I contacted Joe about the missing component and he responded in less than 24 hrs with multiple solutions. The issue was resolved extremely quickly with no fuss whatsoever. I highly recommend Joe Bike.
Just recently dug my bike out of storage and wanted to make sure everything was tuned. Matt helped make sure my bike was in good standing and helped me find a helmet. Thank you!
Brought my sons new bike in to get the brakes fixed and they did a great job. Super affordable and did more adjustments and tuning than I paid for. Awesome shop...
Been here twice within a week - both for minor fixes that a seasoned cyclist may know how to do it themselves. Both times, they didnt charge me anything - like a Les Schwab of bikes. Of course, I will return here and give them real business when the occasion rises. Nice to know some businesses still operate on such model.
Really great folks! After I took a spill on my bike they diagnosed my shifting issue, fixed my wobbling cam and aligned my handlebars in five minutes after I walked in. Then told me there was no charge. In a city full of great bike shops, Joe Bike stands out.Im so glad to have a shop like this near me.
The other positive reviews are correct. Staff are unsnobbish and friendly, and they seem really happy to help. Will definitely be coming back for the fixes I cant do myself :-)
Best bike shop I’ve ever been to. Stopped by on the first day of a bicycle tour to get some issues worked. Krishna was super nice, extremely helpful. Store has very nice stock of bicycles, parts, helmets, just about anything you may need. Highly recommended.
Fantastic bike shop. Employees were knowledgeable and spent two hours with me answering questions. Reasonably priced accessories such as helmets and fenders, unlike other bike stores in town who run at almost double.Certainly geared towards the daily bike commuter with bikes and components that will last. This is a high quality bicycle shop.
I went to Joe Bike since my bike was making a terrible noise every time I got into the highest gear. I had taken it to another shop for a full check up, but they werent able to fix it. When I came in, the guy at the front said they were fully booked for at least a week, but he offered to take a quick look. He spent probably 2 minutes with it, tightened a screw, and totally fixed it. I couldnt believe it! Im so appreciative since my bike is totally silent! Definitely going back!
This shop is an awesome find when you need bike service. 3 stands with 3 great mechanics, Chis, Tiger & Jessie, who had the SP dynamo part I needed, then set me up with a new cassette & chain installed and dialed in the shifting. Had me on my way fast to the next 400k ride. A bonus was the restaurant next door. thx for the service fellas
After sharing my thoughts on a negative experience, I received a phone call from the owner. He expressed an direct interest in resolving the issue. A good bike shop for those serious about cycling.
Dropped a bike off yesterday for build with an estimated completion date 6 days out. Received a call from Matt today that he had already done the assembly! Some of the friendliest bike mechanics Ive met and stoked that they are in my neighborhood. Cannot recommend enough!
I really like the friendly, chill atmosphere. My wife was in the market for a new bike and we were lucky to find it at Joes Bike Shop. The great guys working in the shop built her bike up and had it ready super quick! Thanks for the great service!
Bought my Salsa Marrakesh here, and everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. They installed a front rack and fenders within an hour and at no extra charge. This will be my go to bike shop from now on.
I dont know much about bikes except how to ride one. Sometimes bike shops can be kind of snobby about this. Joe Bike was the opposite of that. I got a rather old, definitely decrepit bike serviced here for a very reasonable price (especially compared to the other shops in this area). The service people are both friendly and helpful. Ill definitely be coming back!
I stopped in to get some advice on what I thought was a broken axel on my front wheel and if the potential cause could be from my fork. One of the gentlemen working (whos name I did not get. Black hair, wearing all black today, Monday, 09/23/19) was more than willing to take a look. It took him all of a few minutes to diagnosis the problem. After going over the issue with me, he applied the necessary adjustments, and then took a couple extra minutes to check out my brakes and wheel. I asked if I could pay him for his time, but he declined - simply stating to remember them the next time I need to purchase something. I really appreciated him providing his expertise, and for being accessible while doing it. Despite how much time Ive spent in and out of bicycle shops, I still find engaging with some mechanics and employees as intimidating and not worthwhile. This was an extremely positive experience.
The quintessential neighborhood Local Bike Shop. Theyve always been wonderful sharing advice, fixing that little noise, and at a really reasonable price. I drool over the new bikes in the window. Someday.. This shop is my default stop off on the Lincoln street bikeway for commuting and for fun-rides. Support your local bike shop!
Even though they didnt have what I was looking for, they recommend a couple nearby shops where I could go. Super knowledgeable, honest and friendly people. I highly recommend this place!
The best in town. Joe Bike consistently exceeds even their own expectations; delivering the highest quality customer service, attitude, products, and enviornment, they are a joy to do business with. I go well out of my way to patron their fine establishment and recommend them to everyone! The whole crew is phenomenal and they should be so proud of the work they do! I am one loyal customer, Ill tell you whhat.
Excellent prompt service! These guys did a great job repairing my bike and had solid communication throughout the process. Highly recommend this shop!
This place has won my business for all future cycle repairs and tune-ups. My left handbrake had fallen apart and my rear inner tube had popped (all within 30 seconds of each other), so I walked my bike to this store since it was close by. They were going to close in less than an hour, so I was expecting to have to leave my bike overnight and find another way to commute to work in the morning. Instead, the friendly staff immediately greeted me as I walked in, asked what was wrong with my bike, and got to work. I could tell they knew what they were doing in how promptly and efficiently they were inspecting and repairing my bike, which helped me establish trust quickly as a first-time customer. I was charged a very decent (and cheaper than I expected) price for the repair, and I was out before they even closed. Will definitely be back soon. Thanks guys!
They do a great job at getting to customers despite their hectic repair backlog. Really helpful in repairs or bike purchases. Brett is the man!
The team at Joe Bike set me up with a tire, tube, and tools for a good price. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. I will be back.
Needed a brake adjust and my chain oiled. Joe bike got my bike back to me earlier than planned and also made some other great adjustments and told me what other maintenance I should watch out for. My bike hasnt been this smooth in a while.
I took my bike apart so I could paint it. It went back together fine, but I could no longer get into 8th gear. I stopped in a Joe Bike to see if they could help. Turns out it was a screw in need of a spacer that was blocking 8th gear. 5 minuets and a whole lot of friendly service later, I was on my way. A great, local bike shop
Very knowledgeable but not pushy staff when it came to buying my first nice bike. Theyve had great service since then. Sometimes the little shop can be busy, but I love the fact theyre open early on Mondays for a quick tune on the way into work.
I needed air in my tires. I stopped in. I was so stunned; they were incredibly generous with their time, helpful addressing my questions...overall exceeded expectations, particularly because they were on the verge of closing! I will definitely go back as needed, and wish this was the shop I took my bike to when it was having more (to me) complicated issues! Thank youuuuu!
Friendly knowledgeable staff. They took the time to explain all the lighting options that they have available (and they have some really cool options for hub generated lighting). They were not bike snobs (an unfortunately usual bike shop trait in town I have found). I will be going back to Joe Bike.
Great folks with real passion for bikes. Real bikes that get ridden for daily purpose, not carbon fiber trunk ornaments. Though the shop itself is small, they have access to far more than can be seen, and the staff possess the knowledge to get the right bike to the right person, or to build something from scratch if that bike doesnt exist yet.
Top notch! I biked from Canada to Astoria and they held a bike box for me for a few days until l was in Portland for the flight in the night. Thanks guys.
Ruth was super friendly, knowledgeable, helpfully and very professional about providing an estimate for the repair/replacement of my bike, after having been run over by an errant motorist. She provided multiple options, took the time to explain each one in detail. I would highly recommend Joe Bike, and Ruth.
Stopped by to have my 12yr old sons breaks/gearing fixed. We werent in any rush and planned on just leaving it there. However, Ruthie greeted us immediately and just started working out the kinks. Within a few minutes and a few bucks later, she made a crappy kids bike functional and safe again. Ruthie was awesome and we will definitely bring our bikes back to this shop when needed, as a result. As Todd from Bojack Horseman would say Hooray!!..not every Portland bike shop is a rip-off!!!
I had just moved fourteen miles from town and wanted to true my back tire on my day off. I work nearby and so looked for a shop around that was open. I went down to Joe Bike and was taken care of right away. The guys were interactive, friendly, and worked with a sense of urgency. I have been looking for a shop to frequent (hopefully I wont need to mich, other than tune ups) and these guys are in the running for that spot.
There are a lot of bike shops in Portland, but this is my new favorite. Theres no condescension, just a pure and obvious love of bicycles.
Super helpful folks! Solve your problems and get you on your way. That theyre located on my commute is even better.
I went in there for new brakes and tires. The guy inside instead of selling me new brakes (which would have made them more money) he pointed out that my brakes were just adjusted wrong. Great service.
Got a new job in the area and rode my bike to work today. I cant believe I left my lock at home, but it wont happen again. I went to Joe Bike on my lunch break and purchased a new lock that mounts on my bike. They let me borrow a screw driver to install the mount, filled my tires for me and didnt seem frustrated when my new chip card wouldnt function properly. Even though they were obviously busy, they remained friendly and professional. Thanks guys!
A great bike shop with friendly & helpful staff. Surly, Kona, Salsa oh my!
Great place
I have been stopping by for about a year, for various parts n accessories. The vast majority of the staff are very helpful, knowledgeable and kind. It warms my heart that there is such a place as this shop.
Joe Bike are solid kind people and excellent mechanics. When I broke my rear axle they were quick, efficient, and a pkeasple to work with. Cant recommend them enough!
A rare retail experience where you feel you got more than you gave. I love this place.
Went in to get my cable gear shifter fix because it broke, and I expected it to take all day, but they guy at Joes. Might have been Joe himself. Qouted me two hours and got it done in less an one. Gave me a call. Picked up my bike, road it around and it felt like new. They work hard, they work fast and theyre efficient.
Friendly, helpful mechanics, and a really nice selection of bikes and gear for such a compact space. Has become my go-to shop.
I took my bike in after a nasty spill that left my back tire bent. Not only did they get it fixed sooner than expected, it was cheaper than what they quoted me for in the beginning. And very helpful in helping me choose the right kind of replacement tire. Ill be taking my bike here for the foreseeable future.
Folks were a great help, price seemed fair, bike is up and running!
I took my bike to fix the noises from the pedal, saddle, and rear wheel,The guy was very experienced and friendly and did his job well.I appreciate him.
Great shop with very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly staff. Very down to earth and take the time to explain different options as well as pros/cons.
Real bikes, real people, real service, realistic hours. What more can you ask for? Great shop for bikes that get ridden every day.
Joe and his team went above and beyond to accommodate me. I dont live in Portland but if I did, this would definitely be my go to shop!
Super knowledgeable and happy to help staff, good selection of hand-picked components and accessories.
Super helpful, chill atmosphere and great service. Its a small shop so call ahead for an appointment if you need work done.
The staff here are super helpful!
I noticed a few broken spokes on my bike when I was a few blocks away and half an hour _after_ closing time. They unlocked the door, fixed my bike on the spot, and charged a competitive rate. I would definitely go here again.
If only the doctors offices worked as well as these guys. By no means a mechanic, I brought my bike in with a flat unsure of the cause. The two guys inside were already working but quickly stopped to say hi and investigate my problem. He diagnosed the issue and pointed out future things to keep an eye on. I even learned a few things to take better care! I just walked in here and I thought theyd make me wait a few days leaving my bike there! Turns out theyre really quick and good at what they do. And within the hour I was riding away. Definitely returning for future work and advice
I like this place. Brought my bike in today for a tune up. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, I have a great first impression of this place, and I plan on making it my regular place to go from now on.
Went there to get what I thought was a flat (which was actually just my air pump broken I found out). But instead of just airing up my tire and letting me go on my way, they replaced the still fine tube and charged me $17!!!! Absolutly rediculous, unessary work done just so they could charge me. There is no exscuses for that and quite a shameful business model
Great place, specialize in disc brake bikes. Amazing people, good service.
Would not even attempt tire replacement on my scooter. Caught up with me to give my tires back after I walked out in disgust though.
Thanks for the alan bolt and letting me use the wrench today. I really appreciate it.These guys built up my buddies Soma Wolverine and did a real bang up job. Go check em out.
I got personalized attention from fitting through test ride and final sale; they even entertained my young kids!
Very helpful and reasonably priced. Will return again.
Very helpful and pleasant to talk to. Didnt have to wait at all and my bike was fixed in no time at all.
After trying out a lot of shops, this has been my go-to place for several years for parts, repair and advice. Very professional and talented staff, friendly, good prices and good attitude (which, sadly is a rarity at Portland bike shops—for instance try City Bikes on Ankeny if you want REALLY bad attitude).
From the moment I passed Joe Bike late one night while they were closed I knew I was looking at something special. The warm windows sent out a glow as friendly as their staff and the lights shone down on some colorful accessories and blingy bikes. When I wandered in on a Saturday I felt included in the vibe of excitement as they discussed a custom bike build with another customer and helped her get set up with a sweet Soma mixte build. Their rates for tune ups are spot on and they stock a great selection of commuting machines and accessories to handle the gnarly PDX weather. I was so impressed with their service and proximity that I bought my friend a bike tune-up that he desperately needed. Im confident theyll get his bike ship-shape when he eventually takes it in for service. Thanks Joe Bike!
Excellent customer service, and bike knowledge, great job guys!!!
Great staff in a cool PDX bike shop!
Best place for bikes hands down
Always The Best customer service!
Great local shop!
Top notch info and service.
Excellent service; great knowledgeable people.
Awesome stuff
Bike snobs that dont have even the most common of bike parts said it would take 2 weeks for a bicycle chain for my 9 speed and wanted around 50-60 bucks for the chain, got one at Walmart for 15$ and did it myself
Quick fix! Thanks yall
Just go there. It is wonderful
Good service and helpful staff!
