My son just bought his first bike and we needed to get a number of things on it fixed, as well as stuff fixed that we simply did not know to fix (we are both new to bikes). We picked Cycle Metrics because it was close to where we live.We are very grateful we did. The owner, Gary, was so very helpful and kind to my son and me.He fixed everything that needed to be fixed, tuned it up and sat us down to tell us some basics on maintenance. Finally, he recommended to my son that he take the Oregon motorcycle class even though my son has a scooter. We hadnt considered it, but thanks to Gary, my son has decided to take the lesson before he starts riding. I support this decision and I am very grateful to Gary for it.
Gary is awesome! His attention to detail and knowledge is impressive. We have used him for years. We bring our bikes all the way from Battle Ground WA just to have him do the work. We highly recommend his work!
Gary is the man! By far one of the best motorcycle mechanics in the Portland Metro area, if not the state. He has always been friendly, honest, and straight forward. There are not a lot of shops that are willing to work on older dirt bikes 25+ years old but Gary has helped me with two older vintage bikes while other shops and dealerships have turned me away. Great guy, great service, and great experience!
This guy is the real deal. you wont find a more knowledgeable, fair guy.he got my old bike that had been setting for over 5 years running like it was brand new again.and rebuilt the forks.a true motorcycle god.if its fixable I believe this guy can do it.truly a stand up guy.
The service was fantastic. The prices are the best. The communication was awesome. Worked on my 2003 yamaha R1 and did an astonishing job! Highly recommend this shop! I will be back for sure!
I made an appointment for a tire change, then my tire got held up by a major storm. Gary had no problem rescheduling my appointment when it arrived.I dropped my bike off in the morning for the new tires and had it back in the early afternoon. He noticed a couple mechanical issues with my clutch, and when I said Id probably handle it myself he gave me recommendations on which brand to use. While he was changing my tire, he also corrected a few minor errors a dealership made when reinstalling my hard bags. While I just had my tire changed this time around, I would trust him to do more critical work that was outside of my abilities. Also, Gary, you said Id thank you about the kickstand, and yeah. Its night and day. It came that way so I never knew any better. So.... thank you.
Gary got my bike back up to snuff after 3 years in storage. Runs like the day I got it. He charges a fair price and turnaround was timely. Im very pleased with the work he preformed.
He does great work. I take all my bikes there.
Gary is a great. He has worked on several different bikes (and cars) for me, routine maintenance to custom metal work. 👍👍
He did a great job and quicker than I expected.
If you have a motorcycle and your not a customer at Cycle Metrics your wasting your money on service and repairs. Lol
Awesome and Quick Service ReasonablyPriced, What more could you ask for.I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND
Gary has kept my 1988 Honda Hawk running better than I ever thought possible. He’s a wealth of knowledge and good advice. I highly recommend Cycle Metrics.
Gary was able to fit me in to his schedule and did a great job! He got my bike back on the road and was accomodating and professional.
Gary is a genius. Found a repair that cost me $200 instead of $2000 or more. Fair prices and great service. Will be going back.
Amazing work done to remove the rust in my gas tank! Bike runs amazing now!!
So you all know that I love my motorcycle since I got it back in August but it has been slowly but surely been running rough and loud. Now I am NOT maniacally inclined so I didnt know but I took my bike to Cycle Metrics up on Thompson road and he did a top nitch job. Hes rates were fair and now my bike literally purrs and starts up instantly in the cold. He did a bunch of fine tuning as well so all my controls are smooth too. I highly recommend Cycle Metrics for any motorcycle related work.
Gary is the most honest straight forward guy in the business. Hes also very skilled and it seems like he can tackle any job. Best shop in town!
He does great work, treats every project as if it was his own. Therefore he tends to do what he would do to the car, etc. So if you want something done outside of his frame of mind you have to be forceful in what you want. Basically if it aint broke Im not fixing it. Honest service, reasonable prices, he is not going to rip you off in any way like so many other shops will try.For those mild mannered types, he can be blunt and come off rude, but I dont think he really means it.
While they focus on motorcycles, the do auto repair as well. We consistently get good service, honest answers and fair prices. They wont suggest unneeded work and will help you figure out what makes sense to fix, given the overall value of your vehicle. My only hesitation at giving them a 5 star rating is that they dont have some of the conveniences of a large shop, like loaner cars and shuttles. But Im willing to trade those luxuries for a shop with integrity.
Gary has been great in helping to keep our older cars on the road. He understands that I dont need it to be brand new but just safe and reliable. Highly recommended.
About seven years ago, I brought my first bike (1989 KLR 250) here to get it up and running. The mechanic did just that. Four days later, I rode that bike home (albeit somewhat awkwardly as it was my first time riding it). I think it was somewhere in the ballpark of $400. That old KLR Jr. was a regular source of problems until I finally gave up and junked it. It would be a couple more years before I got another bike, but I still remember this place fondly. I didnt think this place was still in business or I wouldve brought my current bike here. (The place Ive been going to lately cant even seem to get tires in on time and its been nothing but excuses about it.)
This place is legit did great work reasonable price I highly recommend cycle metrics!!!
Gary is amazing. He is thorough, knows what hes doing, and really hears you when you tell him what you need. I am very happy with the work hes done and wont go anywhere else from now on.
Five stars do not bring him enough justice. I bought a 1984 V65 Honda Magna about a year ago, and noticed some problems in the way it ran (it wouldnt turn over in a cold start, and finally gave out completely one morning,) I went to the Honda dealer in Tigard for repairs, but was told they would not take anything older than a 93; they gave me the number to Cycle Metrics, so I called there. Gary Black, who owns the shop, he told me to bring it in and he could fix it up for me. Within 3 days he had it running better than when I bought the bike. He did an excellent job repairing everything, and I absolutely could not be happier with the way it turned out. I have been to the shop 2 times for general maintenance, and will continue to bring my bike here for upkeep. He knows what he is doing, and I trust him completely. His prices are fair, he doesnt bullshit you, and he works fast. I dont think I would even attempt to look for another repair shop in Portland, Oregon. Dont hesitate to contact him if you have any questions on a bike, whether youre an experienced rider, or a new one. Very friendly, affordable, and superb work. Thank you for everything Gary, you have gained a loyal customer.
The best ever. Quality and sincere. Im about to go on a 4k mile trip and he really relieved a lot of anxiety by changing the sprockets and chain on my bike and even found a couple more issues and fixed them. Wish i wasnt moving so i could continue to use him. Best ever. Not just a quality business but quality people.
Gary is amazing, very knowledgeable on all bikes, service is great, price is very honest and reasonable, I only let him work on my bikes.
Great mechanic at a fair hourly rate for the quality of work!
Gary knows his motorcycles. My 1982 Yamaha 1100 is a new bike! Dont spend your money anywhere else. I highly recommend!
Gary did a great job performing standard maintenance and installing new tires on my Yamaha V-Star 1100. He was quick professional and through. Ill be going back.
Gary is honest and knows what hes doing. Hes talked me out of work I wanted done to my bike. I cant respect that more. I wholeheartedly trust him and his opinion. My bikes only go to him.
Went in for brakes on my yamaha v-star, ended up basically getting a new bike by the time he was done tuning everything up, I honestly didnt even realize how bad it was riding until he fixed it. And he never put on back brakes, he just adjusted my pedal and they worked like new.
Took my 1974 Yamaha here and he fixed everything I hoped for, and pointed out some extra things that could cause me trouble. Great quality work and honest prices.
Great neighborhood shop, very meticulous and fair prices.
Took in my 1974 Honda CL360. Had a tune up and carbs rebuilt. He turned a bike that I was getting buyers remorse from and turned it into a nice running daily rider.
Great work, fair, honest.
Just realized I never wrote a review for this shop. Damn shame, I dont even have the bike he worked on anymore.Long story short, I owned a Honda CX500 for a while, and when I first bought it I thought it had massive overheating issues. He took it in, and was so thorough in his diagnosis he ended up discovering that it was actually an electrical issue with the temperature gauge and a voltage regulator. He even fixed a couple other things while he worked on it, since he was going to charge for the hours anyway. I already thought it was pretty amazing service, and very reasonable rates for an old POS bike.Fast forward about 6 months later, and I took just the carbs in to him for a full rebuild. I did my research and bought a really high-end kit to do the work myself, and then discovered that you needed a degree in nuclear physics to rebuild the stupid things. He took the carbs (one half-disassembled), with my stupid online-kit, and rebuilt them in a week.In the middle of summer. CX500 CARBS. Google them if you think Im overblowing how incredibly stupid and complicated they are.So yeah, super fast turn around, extremely reasonable rates, and he was even slightly cheaper with the carbs than quoted. The bike ran stupid well after his rebuild, btw.If you have an old bike, go here before anywhere else. Besides, the roads getting there are a fun ride!
Highly recomend this shop.
Just the best.
