I really appreciate having a shop like this around. The clutch in my 370Z was shot. Even in first gear, minor inclines were getting hard to negotiate. The last straw was the petal sticking. I spoke with Christina on the phone, took it in the next day and got a call giving me a detailed description of the problem and a quote within hours. It took longer than expected to fix (only reason 4, not 5 stars), but I cannot stress how happy I am with the work. The car feels new! The shifting is tight and the power is back. Friendly, dependable, excellent work, and well-priced (I checked) - what more can you ask of an auto repair shop?

I had suspicion that the issue with my car was the belt. The staff listened to me, a young woman, and answered all my questions about my car respectfully. They fixed it in a timely manner and a reasonable price. They even let me know the status of my brakes and when I would need to expect to get a brake job done. Their service was comprehensive and I would recommend them to anyone seeking fair, trustworthy service for their car in the city!

Lou was very helpful in the initial conversation and getting the appointment setup. My son dropped it off, Lou called to confirm the diag, provided the estimate and I moved forward with the repair. Finally we made arrangements to have the vehicle picked up after hours. A great experience and its a relief to find a new shop and professional staff!

Came here for a pre purchase car inspection and they were able to squeeze me in on short notice. They were quick and very detailed with their inspection and noticed a transmission leak and other issues that we included in our used car negotiations. The price of the inspection was double other mechanics but it was a Saturday and they were one of the only mechanics open at the time so not sure if prices are different during weekdays, but highly doubt it. Otherwise, highly recommended for the quality of work and great customer service!

I can recommend this auto repair shop without reservation. Its pricing for the repair that I needed was fair, I believe, for the problems that my car had, and it got the repair done by the same afternoon on which I had brought in my car to it. In addition, the owner of the business let me apply, two days retroactively, a coupon that I had just gotten in the mail the same day of the repair, but which I couldnt use for that same reason that day. I went back two days later and he applied it willingly. This saved me $60 on a repair that cost $515, which I very much appreciate. The next time I have any major car problems, I plan on using Benchmark Autoworks again.Second review: I continue to recommend this auto repair shop highly after getting another major repair there 6 months later. As with the first time, I found the pricing to be honest, fair, and better than other comparable auto repair shops. I especially like the fact that they suggest when certain parts of repairs are not necessary, which therefore saved me lots of money. I had another $60 coupon and they readily applied it without question. Ill continue to bring my cars here for future repairs.

I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to make an appointment concerning a worrying noise that had developed with my car. The counter man discovered the undertray had come loose and was dragging on the ground. Because he didnt want me driving around any longer with this problem he persuaded the mechanic to put it on the lift, although they were very busy. 15 minutes later the problem was solved. This is how you create a new customer. I will be coming to Benchworks for all my future repairs.

Performed an oil change and shifter install for my vehicle. Along the way they kept me informed about price changes and gave me estimates at every turn. This was I was never surprised at the bill. Extremely quick turn around time. I work in the commercial auto parts industry and I have to say this is one of the best shops I’ve been able to work with. Absolutely recommend to anyone that wants a transparent and professional atmosphere.

Updating: I did contact them to have my car checked again and everyone was very nice and were willing to fix the issue for free. They deglazed my brakes to see if that fixed the squeak and if not, they told me they would swap out the pads. No squeaks on my way home this evening, so Im hopeful that solved it. Im especially appreciative for their willingness to check out/fix any potential issues and follow up/make the job right, without making me feel its somehow my fault (as has happened with other mechanics).I needed my brakes done pretty quickly because they started grinding on my way home from work one evening about a week before Christmas. I found Benchmark and they were super close to my work and were open at convenient times. What stops me from giving 5 stars is the price, which was about $400 for only front brakes. I know the parts arent that expensive (my dad has done them for me at about $70, however he doesnt live here so that wasnt an option), it doesnt take that long to complete a brake job, and I only got front pads and rotors (Ive paid $400 in the past for pads, rotors, and calibers (and Im pretty sure that was front and back)). I also already am hearing a slight squeak when Im stopping.I, nor my dad, complained too much about the price because I needed it done quickly, as I commute to work and also would be traveling home for the holidays, so it just was what it was at that point. So for convenience sake, appointment availability, and niceness of the people working there, Im content with everything, but the price (and potentially the squeak Im already hearing) is what stops me from raving about them and giving 5 stars.

For the past 20 years we have lived in, worked in and called Raleigh our home....all of our cars have been and are still serviced by one of the finest mechanical teams anywhere at Benchmark Autoworks, Davie Street. They are responsible for rebuilding a 95 Escort which still runs and sits outside our home, along with every other car up to and including my 08 Chrysler Town and Country, running sweet and our little Nissan Sentra (which, by the way, we bought from him used), all having been well taken care of by Lou and a great team! I might add that the lady at the front desk knows as much as the others do about the car you bring to them. (She probably can identify the problem for you right there, as well). You will be treated with honestly, integrity and certainly within fair prices. If you want your car done right and pleasantly, I wouldnt recommend any other team of mechanics. I deeply appreciate when they tell me that something needs replaced and/or if lights are out or a system comes up defective on their computers.They have the finest diagnostic systems anywhere. Its amazing because they can pinpoint any problem, OR IF there is one! (Ive already suspected a problem, and after test driving the car for what I indicated, they were honest enough to say there WASNT one!) That also happened when I bought new tires and thought the car would probably need to be aligned as well, Again, Lou said there was no indication the front end needed to be aligned. Honesty and integrity. Cant beat it for home town repairs. Thanks to all of you for taking such good care of our cars, and us, all these years. I recommend them to anyone!

Wow, I just called and the woman who answered the call AKA OFFICE MANAGER informed me she couldn’t help and proceeded to hang up immediately. Here’s the story: I call to find out how much they charge to replace my serpentine belt because the old one came off. she responds, “what, a belt don’t just come off” no I can’t help you. Click she hangs up. Uncouth. That’s the word for lames like her. Of course I don’t back down easily so I call back and I ask to speak to a mechanic. He is nice enough to hear me out and inform me of the price to replace my serpentine belt that DID fall off. Found out after speaking to the mechanic that she had told him that I said I wanted to reuse this “old belt” that had fallen off somewhere in big ole Raleigh on the street. Really?! Smh. I’ll be finding somewhere else to fix my car Thank you racist White Office manager Chick.

I just attempted to get my tire patched and the lady at the front desk told me they couldn’t patch my tire (30 min repair) . She didn’t even attempt to see if they could fit me . I would not recommend this repair shop.

Great customer service, always quick and easy, and most importantly, everything is done at a high level. I dropped my car off to get the exhaust repaired after another shop butchered it, and Benchmark did an amazing job cleaning everything up, while also changing things in the exhaust as part of a preventative maintenance, including adding a flex pipe to ease the tension and torque on the hard-mounted exhaust.

Benchmark Autoworks is not your typical car repair shop. They offer fair prices to their work, accurate estimates to the time of repair, detail exactly what needs to be done without any of the additional selling items, and they offer great communication throughout the process. They were recommended to me and I will recommend them to my friends and any who read this review.

The staff here are dishonest and uncommunicative. I brought my car here when it died on the way to work, when I came back they quoted me $1,600 with an incomplete unintelligible explanation, and printed out the “diagnostic” which was just prices of all the parts. Water pump, catalytic converter, timing belt, cam position sensor, several other smaller things (antifreeze, oil, etc.) The mechanic was rude when I asked him questions. I decided to take the car to Durham and get a second opinion at a place I trusted, Wasp Auto. They told me I didn’t need a water pump, the timing belt had been replaced recently, and the only thing I needed was the sensor. They quoted me, labor included at $500. I think benchmark auto totally took advantage of a young woman who walked in with a car that wouldn’t start. if I could give this place 0 stars I would.In response to reply: Its unfortunate this has become a he-said-she-said situation but all I can say is that this explanation and these details were not given to me at the time. There was no effort to indicate what was essential and what was not, the estimate was presented to me as what was needed. Not to mention the time belt was VISIBLY replaced - Wasp Auto informed me that the screws were new, and it was very clear. I shouldnt be surprised that you now have the time to explain once I decided to write a public review.

Traveling through town and my Jeep was making bad noises. It was late Friday afternoon and this shop was open Saturdays with great reviews. They replaced both driveshaft u-joint bearings for a very reasonable price and had it ready to go in time to prevent delays. Pleasant and knowledgeable staff inspired trust. I highly recommend!

While traveling home on our vacation, our car decided to break down. Not only did this shop see our car right away, order the parts and fix within a few hours, they stayed after closing to be able to get us on our way! All while allowing us with our toddlers to stay in the shop office where it was nice and cool. Highly recommend this shop!!!

Mechanics here are very knowledgeable and professional. Five months ago, my car was having a rare complex issue, and it was getting worse. These mechanics found the problem. The repair was a little bit more expensive than I had in my budget, but they explained to me all the details of the repair. I understood and accepted. They repaired the problem. I went to this shop knowing my car was in need of brakes and rooters. The customer experience was amazing! They really took good care of me and my car. They also helped me out I was on a tight budget and my car did need both fronts and backs done. I recommend all to come to this Raleigh location. They will take care of you and your car.

Couldnt recommend more. Its definitely rare that you find a good mechanic that you can trust to do what needs to be done and do it right the first time. They replaced my engine for cheaper than anyone around here would, did it quickly, and they were sure to authorize any changes to the plan with me and explain exaclty why it needed to be done. The people that work there are polite, trustworthy, honest and have shown much patience with me and my family with the cost of our car repairs. We struggled with expensive car repairs in the past and the problems were never were resolve. Benchmark did a great job ensuring us that the problems with our vehicles where repaired and that the cost of the repair was fair. After hearing rave reviews from numerous coworkers, I have been here twice now.These guys are fantastic. They are always accommodating, even on a last minute notice. I brought my car here for an oil change and they ended up fixing my washer nozzles and seat adjuster free of charge which is rare for a mechanic shop. I work only 3 blocks away and they still offered me a ride. These guys are incredibly nice, work hard and I can count on them to get my car done quickly. This last time I told them I did not need it till after work but they still called me by 3pm to let me know it was finished and I could pick it up at my convenience. They have even stayed late for me before because I got off work late.Great guys, will definitely continue to use Benchmark and recommend them to anybody who wants quality work done quickly and professionally.

Took my 1999 Jaguar XJ8 here after reading good reviews. I highly recommend this repair shop located in downtown Raleigh. They kept me informed about the cars diagnostics as they made progress in detecting the issue and also gave accurate estimates before fixing the issue by replacing a broken fuel pump. They were great. Very difficult to find mechanics that have dealt with rotary engines and actually know how to fix it. They answered all my questions and explained everything so I can understand it. My car hasnt run this good in three years. Definitely will be going back to this shop if I need more work done to my car!!!

Having low freon during the summer when its 100deg outside is not only inconvenient, but dangerous too. Joey and Christine eagerly accepted me as a new customer and recharged my AC, looked for leaks, and inserted dye so it could be checked easily in the future if the problem persists. They were kind, helpful, fixed the problem, and reasonably priced. I couldnt be more pleased with a car repair and will certainly continue to use them as long as I live in NC!

A man from Firestone recommended Benchmark to me because they thought I had car trouble Firestone wouldnt be capable of fixing, and that it would be $1500+. The issue was fixed for a little over $200 by Benchmark, and they went to the extent of cleaning my mat (one issue was oil / coolant leaking onto it ) for free! Incredibly good customer service. Also, nice to know there are car places that dont take advantage of clueless women. They really know what they are doing, and Joe is an angel!

They are good honest people. They stayed 2 hours after closing on a Saturday to fix my vehicle so I didnt have to be without transportation till Monday (they are closed on Sundays like most places). At the end they charged a very fair price. I would recommend this place to everyone I know.

These guys are the real deal! You wont find a more honest, friendly or knowledgeable shop in Raleigh and when it comes to mechanics, honesty is tough to come by. The team took my frantic phone call after my 2007 Corvette died on the way to work and I had it towed to a different shop where they told me they thought the engine may have seized up and I needed to find an engine specialist or look for a new motor! Naturally I freaked out and started calling around and was blessed enough to call Benchmark first. They calmed me down, pushed my car across the street to their shop, dissected the problem like boss in a few hours and had me on the phone and off the bridge I was planning on jumping off! Lol. My alternator went bad and I lost a pulley. Far from a 6k motor replacement! They could have 100% could have taken me and my hard earned money for a ride but they chose to be honest and do the right thing to gain a customer. If you have car problems or just want a good oil change DO YOURSELF A FAVOR call Benchmark! They have also replaced my clutch and done a ton of wiring and maintenance to my 2007 Jeep Wrangler. Really glad I found these guys!

These guys tried to charge over $4,000 for brakes, a window that wouldnt roll down, and wipers that didnt work.And then charged us 2 diagnostic fees totaling over $200 for not getting the work done there. Upon questioning that extra fee they immediately resorted to threats of keeping our car until we paid.The owners son Joe (the expert mechanic) started yelling at my girlfriend, throwing his arms around, and approached me in a physically threatening manner. I whole heartedly believe he was going to strike me if his father hadnt stopped him.I believe he is overworked. He was yelling about working 90 hours a week.Seems like they need to hire another mechanic. Being tired and overworked can lead to poor work and obviously TERRIBLE customer service.Many other good places to go.Avoid this one.

I took my car here June 30 at 7:30AM. I asked what time I could pick it up, the lady asked when I needed it. We agreed on 4PM. When I called at 3:30PM to check on the status, she said they hadnt even looked at it and it wouldnt be ready until 5:30-6. I couldnt wait that long as I had evening engagements. Instead of offering any kind of assistance (we could take you tomorrow, etc.), she simply said, You can come get it, no work has been done to it. When I came to pick it up, she was not there, but the owner was. When I asked him what happened, he was defensive and said the woman had no recollection of the time we agreed to and went even further saying, Shes pretty sharp too, so... I understand mistakes happen (a fact the owner acknowledged), but how you handle mistakes says a lot about your business. The fact that the owner simply reiterated that I could leave and take my car and made no offer to even try to complete the work at another time says a lot. I wouldnt recommend this place unless you need a free parking spot for the day.

I am highly disappointed in the service I have received from them. I went to them because they are close to the place where I live and work but I deeply regret that decision.1. I went in there with a nail in my tire to be repaired. After getting back my car, I noticed that the tire and rim had stains all over them.2. When I got in the car, I saw the tire pressure light on. When I told them about it they said I should just drive for a little bit and it will go off. I drove for a the day and went back to them at the end of the day. They dismissed my concerns, took the car back for about 2 minutes, and the guy told me it will go away this time when I drive off. Of course it did not.3. I told them I will pass by at 12:00PM to pickup my car, they agreed. I went at 12:30PM and the car was not ready. I did not get my car until 12:55PM. I did not have lunch for the day and was late for a meeting at work. And because they did not do a good job, I had to leave work early to go back to them.4. The person I interacted with first in the morning was friendly. Everyone else was not friendly and dismissed my concerns telling me to just drive off and it will be fine. When I spoke to the mechanic right after getting my car, he told me he can not look at why my car has the light on because he is tied with something else.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In response to the owners comment:If you did not think you could get the tire in a safe operating condition with my limited budget, then you should have just not taken me as a customer.1. The service I paid for, as we discussed initially, was to have the tire installed so it is safe to operate. Now, I still need to take the car to another mechanic since the low tire pressure light is on. The mechanics did not seem to care. The least they could have done is dismount and remount the tire to make sure it is installed correctly. I was not offered a diagnoses for why the low tire pressure light was on.2. You were friendly to me but your staff were not. Particularly the mechanic who refused to look at the car right after I took it because he was tied up.3. I said I will come back at lunch and specified 12:00PM. I never said after lunch.4. The tires and the tail lights are two completely separate issues. I specified that I will fix my tail lights on my own since I am an Electrical Engineer.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My car would stall intermittently and I had brought it to different dealers, but they couldnt fix the problem. I then brought my car to Benchmark Autoworks and they diagnosed and repaired the problem right away. I was so pleased that I brought my car back several times for smaller repairs and everytime my car comes back running better than when I dropped it off!

The transmission died in one of our delivery vehicles so we took it to Benchmark to get an estimate. They delivered our vehicle back to us running like a champ. Now we take all our cars there and recommend them to al our friends.

This show is fantastic! Most honest, and reliable autoshop Ive ever gone to. I brought in a 2003 Honda Accord that has a ton of problems (Broken clutch, and master cylinder, windshield whipers needed replacing, new oil filter and oil change, leak in the clutch fluid system, ect.) They fixed all of it in one day, gave me the best price of any shop I had gone to before (Saved me almost $400) and even stayed late that day to make sure everything was fixed. I could not be more pleased with this service, and they have a new customer!Highly recommend.
