I love this place. Great mechanics, great bike knowledge. Gary fixed my mountain bike and my road bike. He knows so much, and hes generally excited about getting me setup and on the road putting in miles. Inspirational place. Thanks TLC!
Gary was really knowledgeable and went above and beyond sizing a road bike for me. I told him I’m leaving Monday to head back to Florida but my sister was going to be seeing me for Christmas so their was no rushGary had my bike ready in 24 hours and I’m taking it home tomorrow. I have never bought a bike from a person who was so knowledgeable and passionate about their profession.I highly recommend TLC for Bikes for anyone.
The owner of this shop truly has a passion for what he does. I was lured in by the free workshops they offer every first Wednesday of the month. The workshop was incredibly helpful, we went over changing a flat tire, certain aspects about our bikes, etc. The owner began telling us a story about someone who brought a bike in a told him to just “keep it,” because the tune up cost more than the bike itself. I should’ve registered this as a red flag. If you’re willing to spend $110 on a basic tune up that most shops will charge $35 (shoutout Cycle Logic) then this is your place! As a student who has to worry about student loans, MCAT fees, medical school application fees I nearly had a panic attack when I picked up my road bike (which I got for a steal during quarantine for $300), and the tune up (basic lube of cables, check tires, adjust saddle) was $110. That’s over 1/3 of the cost of the actual bike. I felt extremely taken advantage of. I think the owner is a kind person but I don’t appreciate that kind of service. I wish them the best of luck, but will never be returning for any of their services. Be aware, and absolutely ask about cost of services up front. Lesson learned!
As you may know, there’s a national bike shortage. I went to TLC for bikes and they sent me to BikesDirect if I didn’t want to wait several months. Bike is on order. They will set it up and accessorize it for me. Can’t wait. Kudos to Cameron!
I went here about a year ago. They ended up doing several things to my bike— Replaced gear shifter and rewrapped my handlebars. Everyone was incredibly polite, but no one gave me a straight answer on the price until it was time to pay. Not even so much as an estimate. Even when I asked twice I got the same tired joke of “$1 million”. It was funny the first time, but when you’re trying to make sure you stay within budget a straight answer on pricing (or even a loose estimate) isn’t something to joke about. The quality of the work was okay for the most part, except my handlebar wrapping were already loose and sliding off within the first 3 months of having my bike back.
Awesome service, I came here for some questions on a bike that I had just inherited and the service and advice was top notch highly recommend coming here and doing business.
Gary is by far the most honest, experienced, and knowledgeable bike mechanic in Raleigh. He runs a great shop and really takes the time to listen to and assist his customers with their needs. He works with anyone regardless of budget. I won’t go anywhere else in Raleigh for advice, service, or repair. What an awesome bike shop!
Did not fix brakes. I did not ride this bicycle right away after picking it up but when did I was going on a slight down in the road and could not stop i had to squeeze the brake with a my might and it kept going so fast I thought I was going to be injured or worse cause it was a metal mailbox cluster ahead my daughter was very shaken. Cause she couldnt help me.. So this is why I gave this place 1 star. At first I gave this place 5 stars because the owner was nice and I didnt ride the bicycle right away. I wasnt going to post about this but it came up on my time line with 5 stars. I thought oh no I have to speak out about this. Really the bicycle brakes was better before I took it there. I have other bicycle needing work but not @this place of business.I have decided Im learning to work on my own bicycle Im so feed up with the BS and being taken advantage of.
Great Service, very knowledgeable and super friendly!
Want to thank Gary for fixing my Dahon Boardwalk correctly, this is a great shop for all levels of riding. He has vintage bikes as well as the latest carbon fiber light weight exotic racing bikes. For beginners or the serious hammerhead, TLC has the skills to keep you rolling. Thanks Gary!
Great knowledge and service. Very customer service oriented
Rude. Guy was obviously bothered by my questions and not willing to help.will not be back.
Good products? I think so. Good Service? No. I regret spending my money here. I was treated so rudely by the guy running the shop the other day when I went in. He argued with me, incorrectly at times, about what I needed for my bike repair. I even asked to see other products he had for a price comparison, he flat out said no. Had I not been having such a busy week, I would have walked out based on his treatment of me. All this, and he was violating local mask mandates by not wearing one. Would never go back. Maybe TLC stands for Tough Love and Care in this case.
The owner Gary Smith is very helpful and knowledgeable about bikes and fitness. Especially with endurance training and endurance nutrition. We discussed endurance needs for cycling and how to supplement before and during a ride as well as resistance training in the gym.Their maintenance shop is awesome and they do great work. I highly recommend TLC for Bikes. Just stop by and see for yourself. They also host bike rides Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Join them for a friendly ride of 35 miles or so.
Gary is just the best. I dont trust my bikes with anyone else! And the prices for sales and service are competitive too!
Not sure how I previously missed this bike shop just 5 minutes from my home, but Gary and the team did a great job with a new fork install. While other places were backed up for 3 weeks, they had mine done in just 24 hours! A great attention to detail and getting the job done right at a fair price.
Gary and team are very professional and courteous. I went in to get my shifter and loose bearing fixed and they had it finished and riding like new in no time. I will be coming back to them for all future repairs on my mountain bike.
Super rude sales associate! Condescending and unwilling to provide more information on the options available within each pricing tier. He continued to press me on what I had intended to spend and was adamant that I already had a figure in mind. I explained that I was not sure what I was willing to spend based on not having the information on the functionality and quality available within each price range. Instead of providing more information on the bikes, he says You still didnt answer my question in a rude and nasty way. Such an unpleasant experience after having a great brunch just around the corner.
Gary knows road bikes. He is a wealth of knowledge and experience. He can fit you to the correct bike no problem. 3 stars is due to his extreme lack of customer service after purchasing a bike (1k plus) or servicing a bike. He will not call so youll need to stay on top of him to make sure the bike is either in or the service is compete. My advice is to hire someone to call and follow up on sales.
Great local shop. The owner is friendly, knowledgeable, and up front. Been back a few times now for repairs to various bikes.
Flat out friendly!Gary is awesome! He’s knowledgeable and willing to provide advise! Cycling can be highly technical and he helps make it easier. Also, he’s willing to work with your existing bike(s) to ensure you’re best suited for your goals. He hosts group rides weekly. The pricing is very competitive!
Best bike shop! Gary immediately identified what needed to be fixed. Gary fixed my bent derailleur hanger on my cannondale within four days! Incredible timing with the COVID-19 related bike shop delays. Bike repairs have been swamped and backed up for 30 plus days, I traveled a two hour round trip to come see Gary, and I am so glad I did. The first thing I noticed was he cleaned my bike!!! Everything looks and feels brand new. You guys rock!
Always happy with the service and prices! Great, local bike shop.
By far the most enjoyable shop. The owner was super knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely my new go-to
Gary bailed me out yet again. Promised the wifey I’d go on a long ride with her first thing Saturday morning. Realized I needed a new tube and tire Friday night. While mounting both onto the wheel I punctured the tube. Took it to Gary’s shop first thing and he mounted it in no time and showed me (again!) the correct method. I gladly support local businesses who care that much about their customers. Oh, and the wifey and I had a great ride!
This is the very best bicycle shop I have ever had the pleasure of visiting and relying on. The staff are all totally professional, knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, informative, and fair. I feel I can rely on them completely for any of my bike repairs and purchases. I have bought three new bikes there and must have used their repair and accessory services at least 20 times, and probably much more. The pricing is very fair, and the service is prompt and dependable. If you live anywhere near North Raleigh, this is the bicycle shop for you.
Had a great experience buying from them. Ordered a bike directly from Norco (one of their suppliers) and had Gary assemble it. A small part didnt get boxed up with the bike but Gary was able reach out and get it shipped overnight so I could be riding by the weekend. The bike looked and performed excellently out on the trails. Thanks!
The owner was extremely nice. We felt welcome as soon as we walked in the door. Great selection and service!
Took my Cannondale road bike to TLC and experienced the best service I had ever had with this or any other bike Ive owned. Gary also was very gracious with his time and gave me a few very helpful tips and was very patient with my questions. Gary has an incredible background in cycling and my Cannondale has never functioned better because of that fact. I have had experiences with other shops where the work wasnt done correctly the first time and I have had to make return trips to get the bike serviceable before I could even ride it - right after picking it up from the shop. After leaving TLC with my serviced bike I can say this is the way a Cannondale Caad9 is supposed to ride. Just awesome ! TLC for Bikes will get all the bikes in my household moving forward.
Very good service👍🏻
Amazing customer service they take thier time with you walk you through the steps even in a time like this. Gary touched my heart, it meant everything to me amazing customer service great products no price gouging
I just had my bike fitted to me. What a difference. TLC is pationate about biking. Thank-you again for helping me be comfortable on my bike. My average steed increased by almost 2mph today.
Best customer service ever! Went in for a simple tire change, the worker ( who by the way has a very nice bike!!) Gave me his undivided attention. You can see these guys devotion for the sport since somebody else there came and took a look at the bike as well and fixed up few details on it, not sure if he worked there though. I left a very happy customer, new tire and knowledge of my bike!
Awesome customer service, turnaround times, and prices. I have visited this shop without an appointment and had bars cut, brakes serviced, and shock service on the spot. Would highly recommend!
TLC for Bikes is simply the best shop in the area. The entire staff is always helpful and friendly. They take the time to understand what you need, so that you always walk out with gear that youre comfortable with and will continue to use. Their mechanics are outstanding and have kept my bike riding like new. Gary and Wendy are both avid cyclists, and lead fun, safe group rides throughout the year. Theyre always willing to provide coaching and advice, and have definitely helped me improve as a cyclist. I cant say enough good things about TLC. You wont regret visiting this shop.
The staff at TLC are fabulous. In addition to just selling bikes, they go out of their way to organize group rides for beginners to advanced cyclists. I have had the pleasure of joining some of these rides, and picked up some helpful hints, as well as a few new friends from our community. If you are in the market for a toy to collect dust - go ahead to a big box store to waste your time and money. If you are serious about cycling, doing it well, and having good service on high quality equipment - visit TLC.
Gary is the best mechanic around and takes the time to explain the bike mechanics to you.
Great local bike shop. I came in for a service on a hard ridden, border-line abused mountain bike. I got great customer service, honest opinions of what was required, excellent quality services, and all at a very reasonable price. This is my new bike shop of choice. My thanks to Gary, Tim and Jason!
Best independent bike shop around Raleigh! This people know what they are doing, the owner used to be a professional cyclist and worked for the biggest bike part manufacturer in the world so he knows a lot about bikes and everywhere cycling related and since they do not represent any brand in particular, they provide very unbiased advise about bikes. Great shop, solid product selection, awesome location and the best customer service in town since they really know what they are talking about!! Not just bike salespeople.
Brought my Trek hybrid in for a quick tune-up before starting some trips on Neuse River Trail. Gary immediately recommended I switch to road tires for more comfortable ride and, along with the excellent tune-up, I was very satisfied with the price and the results. Great shop, which I will recommend to friends!
I brought in a used bike for a basic tune up... Paid $100 and the bike was returned to me with almost no changes. I tried calling the store for updates but my calls were ignored and the mailbox was full. The owner, Gary, is very dishonest, defensive, and standoffish. Be prepared to receive terrible customer serviceIf youre looking to have your bike serviced save your money and stay away from this store.
Gary is super knowledgeable and nice. Bike selection is solid as well. Highly recommend.
Gary and his staff kindly helped my organization to have our riders who have Down syndrome fitted for our iCan Bike Camp. They helped us to find the best bikes and really know their stuff. Highly recommend!
Im a beginner Greenways rider and needed a tune up before hitting the trails. Gary tuned up and returned my bike within a few days! Big or small, I appreciated that they took the time to do it right. Tim and Gary had great technical knowledge regarding hybrids as well. I will definitely return in the Spring for another round of service!
TLC has high end brands that provide you bang-for-the buck. Gary is knowledgeable, skilled, friendly, and most importantly, willing to take the time to sell you what works for *you*. Im 350lb, 64, and 43. So Im hard to fit. Many bike shops would stick me with something that wouldnt work for me, or would just scoff at me. Not Gary. So whether or not you are a pro or casual rider, TLC has the bikes/parts, skills, experience, and knowledge.
I’ve been to many bike shops. I drive all the way from Jacksonville NC to have the best service. The groups rides are so much fun too!
Gary has to be one of the nicest and knowledgeable guys in the business! Im a novice to the cycling sport but he was able to explain what I needed to know with ease. I will definitely be using TLC for all of my cycling needs!
As a local (looking to purchase a bike) I stopped by this store to see what they may have. I was patronized by the rude older gentleman, as if I was asking to buy a new Mercedes Benz. I would never spend a penny with these people.
Terrible experience, The Owner said he takes care of his customers and then refuses to fix a problem I paid them to fix. Read bellow if you want more details. The last time I had gone to TLC for bikes was because I had a two flat tires. First I bought two inner-tubes at what seemed like a very expensive price. Three hours after I installed them into my bike the tires popped again. This time I brought my bike there For them to solve the flat tire issue, However I was reluctant to give it to them, because they charged me $20 last time for them to even touch the bike. so after spending more money to fix these flat tires three hours after I brought the bike home the tires were flat again. So I brought it back to their shop to fix it, because I paid them to fix a problem that wasnt fixed. The owner assured me that they would fix it and said I take care of my Customers. Again after picking up my bike the tires went flat. This happened a few times, where they keep trying to fix it. At this point I took my bike one last time there and apparently the owner (Gary) told them that they can no longer attempt to fix my bike. Later I called them asking for a refund considering I paid them to fix a problem that they didnt/wouldnt fix. At this point one of the employees hung up on me. I do not plan on ever going back.
Gary tuned up my bike just right, fixed a few problems that I recognized, and then packed up and shipped it for me moving. Great communication; will come back next time Im in RTP area!
I went in looking to buy a bike for my 7 year old. Gary was super helpful. After a couple of weeks I brought him my mountain bike for a tune and I couldnt be happier with the job they did. Great job guys!
Kudos to Gary and TLC team for outstanding service. Gary is a true professional who takes the time and effort to treat each bike like his own. Gary took on my challenging SRAM eTap issue and went the extra mile to get it 100% dialed in. Great service and great shop. Thanks guys.
Gary is both knowledgeable and friendly, all with very reasonable prices.
Excellent service! Gary has always been willing to talk to me about bikes, parts, places to ride etc. My favorite local bike shop.
The employees and customers at this bike shop deserve better. All the employees where super helpful and tried work with us but the owner was rude, unhelpful and a know it all bike mechanic. We stopped here after an 1800 mile bike tour and multiple bike shops across the country and this shop was the least accommodating and worst experience weve had. Ive worked on bikes for 5 years and built and did my own mechanic work. Gary, the owner, did things to my bike that I specifically asked him not to do when looking at them, and then charged me for it. Then passive aggressively saying because he had 14 years of experience I didnt know what I was talking about, over charged me, and finished 2 days late. If you go here dont let Gary touch your bike, make sure one of his helpful great employees do it.
Gary and crew are just exceptional, the best bike shop in Raleigh bar NONE. They spent 3 hours with me so I could find the perfect bike for my daughter on her birthday (she had a very specific list of requirements ;-) ). Service there is exceptional, they always take great care of you. Just cant say enough good things.
Owner was great, friendly and helpful getting my daughter her first big girl bike, kickstand included. She was very proud to own a sun bicycle
Possibly the biggest smallest bike shop ever. very small but packs a mean punch. the owner is a blast to chat with and really knows his stuff. amazing place!
Gary and his staff are amazing. They treat you with respect and take the time to make you feel like an important customer. If you are looking for a road, mountain or BMX this is the place to start.
As a beginner I was very happy with the attention I received. Great bikes and great service. If you are in need of advice and some direction go here!
We went to this bike shop to fix two bikes we bought used, one had a busted back tire and the other brakes needed fixing, so we got tune ups on both, and it took 2-3weeks to be “fixed” but really the brakes were both not fixed and we have had to take them back to other bike shops multiple times after going to TLC. It was also way over priced so we will not be going back here!!!!
Gary is the best. Theres a definite difference between a franchise and a privately owned shop.
Hardcore Cyclist who treat everyone like they are mean leans cyclists who they have known for years. Yup even short stocky guys like myself felt at home at this shop. 1)Theses guys dont mess around you walk into the shop and your like, Whoa, ok this is a bike shop dedicating to cycling. Which when I go into shops like this, it usually means the people who work there will turn up there nose at me since I am not a roadie and not tall and lean. TLC is exact opposite they listened to my problem then asked a lot of questions then got down to business helping me out. If fact Gary didnt want to sell me a new saddle at first and suggested I just bring my bike with me to see if he could adjust it for me before plopping down some money for a new one. Anyway, long story short its a 30 min drive for me to get to this shop and I have done it twice in 3 days, thats how happy I am with them. If you shopping for a new bike go check them out as the worse case scenario you might learn something. Only caveat the owner doesnt believe in the stock market, but then again I didnt understand seat and bike fitting until I was educated about it.
I live in rocky mount.i am 63 miles from TLC.i make the extra drive it is worth it great group of people in that shop.very knowledgeable.great product line.best bike shop i ever been in!!!
Great customer serviceHighly recommend this place
I recently purchased a Torelli Nitro Express. I never felt pressured and both Gary and Wendy helped me through all the key decisions. I was nervous about buying a steel bike but the weight when all is said and done is the same as my carbon bike. BUT what a ride! Incredibly smooth and enjoyable. I loved riding before and now I cant get enough. I have had several looks in under a week with everyone asking what I am riding and several comments about a beautiful bike. I recommend TLC to anyone. They have also helped fit me so my neck aches have gone away and my position is much more comfortable. They really spend the time and explain all the intricacies of biking. I have also joined a few Saturday rides and when I rode the Torelli I definitely had less aches and pains afterward. Again, I definitely recommend TLC for new bikes and for maintenance.Steve
Look elsewhere for mountain bikes. Bought a new bike and the owners didnt know how to purge a hydraulic brake line! Also, service attitude varies by the day.
HANDS DOWN THE MOST AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE @ THIS LOCAL BIKE SHOP TO DATE....Gary, Wendy, and the other staff members provided exceptional customer service to our service members that came from the Wounded Warrior Batallion aboard Camp Lejuene, NC. They provided quality expertise, timely service, and really took care of our Marines who were in preparation for the Marine Corps Trials event in CA. Gary worked endlessy even after store hours to repair and tune our bikes. Wendy helped with the organization process and provided safe routes for us to utilize in the area. All other assisting staff members were very courteous and friendly also. If you are looking for great quality in products and exceptional service, this is the place you need to be. Their 2 beautiful dogs in the store serve as a bonus as they are also very loving.
Tim was really helpful in making sure I knew which bike to invest in and really was knowledgeable in this sport!
Quick service!
Awesome bikes and apparel. Friendly staff who loves bikes more than you.
I have known Gary for 30+ years. Gary is an astounding mechanic. Gary and I worked together as mechanics at Competitive Cyclist (when it was in Dallas). There are very few mechanics that I would let overhaul my bikes. Gary is one of them.Gary knows bicycles. Gary is a longtime road racer. When we worked together he built mountain bikes, triathlon bikes and one offs for customers. Our claim to fame (ok... not the only one), we worked with Boyd Atherton (Atherton Cycles [closed]) to outfit a customer bicycle for Vern Troyer (Mini-me from the Austin Powers series)Not knowing him, I asked what do you do for a living? He responded, Im an actor. I then asked if he had done anything that I would know. He smiled and said, Not yet.Austin Powers hit theaters about 2 week later.....Buy from Gary.Let Gary work on your bikes.Trust Gary... He knows bicycles.Allan OxenreiterFounder and former owner of Competitive Cyclist and Bicycles of Dallas
Best bicycle shop around, Best customer service, Best mechanics
Great shop! Friendly atmosphere and knowledgeable !
I cant believe I drove 27 miles all the way out here on a Saturday to find the store closed when its supposed to be open. WTH?
Great service! Fair and nice guy!!
Gary is great, love this place.
Good selection.
Excellent attention
