As a professional trombonist with a pretty rare trombone, I’m awfully picky about who works on my horn. Scott did an amazing job with the cleaning, alignment, and general cleaning up of my trombone after it sat unused for almost a year during this pandemic. Not only that, I was on a tight deadline and he went out of his way to ensure that my horn was completed on time.I will definitely be back to have my horn serviced here again. Scott provided professional, friendly, fast, and the highest quality service for the instrument that I value most. Absolutely recommend his shop to anyone who wants a guaranteed great result.
Scott was beyond reproach with his service and professionalism. They will have a life long customer here. Excellent work for a very fair price. Thanks!
Highly knowledgeable. High quality service for brass instruments.
I just met Scott Sweeney, proprietor of Sweeney Brass and am so glad he has come back home to NC! A native of central NC, Scott went to NC School of the Arts and has a degree in bass trombone performance from the Manhattan School of Music. In NYC, he learned the brass repair trade and spent a decade in NYC doing work for top players there. He now has an excellent shop in Raleigh and combines his knowledge as a brass performer with his knowledge of brass repair to deliver the best craftsmanship.I was the bass trombonist of the Utah Symphony for 22 years, and have performed with top orchestras around the country (Baltimore Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, National Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Alabama Symphony) and now substitute with the NC Symphony and play for NC Opera. I have lived in a lot of places and had several repairman that were quite good. But Scott brings a new level of excellence to the craft that I havent seen before. His work on my well used Edwards Bass Trombone put my horn in the best shape it has ever been in. And that included a lot of work on the main slide. If you play a brass instruments and live in the Raleigh area, you need to know about Sweeney Brass. And even if you dont live here, it is worth taking a trip or shipping your instrument to him. His work is that good.I am very happy and highly recommend Sweeney Brass!(And he makes a nice leather name tag as well!)
Excellent work, friendly and courteous service. We are always so pleased in our dealings with Mr. Sweeney.
I brought my tuba in for a couple of stuck slides. The work was done in a timely manner and the quality of work was fantastic. I would recommend this repair shop to anyone.
Delighted to recommend this shop highly.
Scott puts in honest work and charges fair prices. He will meet your individual situation/idea with positivity and passion from the get-go and wont cease to be informative, flexible, and professional throughout the entire process of your build/repair/purchase.Above everything, Scott is a local craftsmen who runs his business with heart. His kindness and willingness to go above and beyond is what will bring me back to SweeneyBrass over any other brass seller/repairer for all future projects.
Sweeney brass is simply the best. Scott knows his stuff, has great customer service and always delivers. Id highly recommend him to anyone looking to service a brass instrument!
Great people
Scott does GREAT work and I’ve known him for almost 20 years! I send people to him as much as I can.
Always great to come to Sweeney Brass.Great service. And horns.
Scott is a rare find in that he is extremely knowledgeable and talented in his trade, but also approachable and affordable. He was able to get my 5 year old Conn 88HO back into like-new condition for a very fair price. He had it ready the day before promised as well. Scott is the man!
I brought in my trumpet to get some much needed TLC and Scott did a fabulous job on it. I think it looks and plays better than when I bought it 30 years ago. A big plus is Scott’s customer service skills-I am so glad The Flying Squirrel referred me to Scott. My trumpet buddies are going to thing I splurged on a new horn!
Very knowledgeable and helpful. Repairs are excellent. Prices are reasonable.
Scott is a master craftsman and an amazingly nice person. I have now had two trumpets worked on by him and the end product is great! Both horns came back better than new! If you need any work done on a brass instrument, take it to Scott!
Scott is an impeccable craftsman and an incredible musician. He has such a thorough attention to detail; his passion is plain to see. With a warm smile and welcoming attitude, Scott quickly puts to bed any hesitance you may have about giving your horn to a stranger. He walked me through the work he would be doing and even showed me around his workshop.I brought him two horns for a routine cleaning and he absolutely went above and beyond. I know that if I ever have any questions, he will be more than happy to help. For as long as his business stays in Raleigh, I will remain a client and continue to recommend his services to others.
I was referred to Scott to repair my sons trombone. I am so happy we were referred to Scott. He repaired our sons trombone and made it look good as new!. After that experience, my mother recently gave me my grandfathers bugle she said he played during her childhood and during his time in WWI.. Unbelievably, Scott also made that bugle look immaculate. He took great care of the bugle and it is something we will continue to cherish for many years to come. Thank you Scott!
Went in to buy a mouthpiece and instead of selling me a brand new expensive one he offered a slightly used one that looked new and saved me a good chunk of change. Refreshing to deal with someone both nice and honest. He is also very knowledgeable and spent time answering my questions. Plan to make him my “go to” place in the future.
Scott, is a phenomenal person who really understands his craft. I appreciate his willingness to work with us in such a time crunch. Sweeney Brass is a great place, give him a call you will not be disappointed
Scott did an amazing job on my horn! I initially was looking for a routine cleaning, but ended up with like-new (or maybe better?) instrument. My horn ended up being in worse shape than I initially thought, but it was no problem for Scott. I dont remember the last time my horn played so well! This will definitely be my go-to place for taking care of my horn!
As a native of Raleigh and a trombonist, I was excited to hear about Scott Sweeneys shop, even though I live in Boston. While in Raleigh for a holiday, my wife and I visited his shop and he graciously gave us a tour. Its a beautiful place and the horns he has for sale there are high quality, I almost walked out with a King 3B hed refurbished. I had Scott do a de-stressing rebuild, realignment, and screw bell conversion on a 1968 Elkhart Conn 6H bell of mine. It came out great, and he did a wonderful vintage finish (and even fixed the busted handle on my case) at no extra charge. I highly recommend his services to all brass players! --Jeb Bishop
Scott is a really nice owner. I came in and traded a trumpet for a used trombone, which I felt was as-good or better than the trade I wouldve gotten at a bigger business. He made sure the trombone was in good working order, did some repairs, and offered to fix the few dents that needed more attention if I shipped the horn back to him. Seems like a stand-up guy.
Absolutely fabulous experience! Responsive, kind, on time, and my horn looks, feels, and plays like new!! Would 100% recommend to others!!
World class brass repair. Will definitely be back for all my brass needs.
Sweeney Brass offers top notch brass repair at a fair price. Scotts workmanship and attention to detail is outstanding. I am very glad that I trusted him to do his expert modification to my prized trumpet. I will be recommending him to all my musician associates because I trust that he will do well for them as he has done for me.
Scott I want to publicly thank you for the wonders you have done on my horn. You have made me feel like a truly valued customer and friend! Not only did you fix my horn but you fixed the deepest part of who I am! Im reminded of why I fell in love with the trumpet all over again because of what you were able to do with my horn! Thank you so very much! Excellent! Im excited to see what the future holds!
Repaired my son’s trombone in 5 minutes. super nice guy!
Scott restored my vintage (circa 1945) Olds Super trumpet. I had purchased the used instrument in 1957, and played it through junior and senior high school band. I kept the trumpet throughout the years because it had sentimental value to me, but I never envisioned it would become a collectors item. Scott rebuilt the horn to its original beauty and playability. He is a master at his craft; and because of that, I now have a museum piece! Thanks, Scott, for your expertise and great work.Dave Hobson
Scott is the real deal! Im proud to have several Sweeney horns in my collection. Thank god for UPS because he can still keep me in business.I do miss being able to stop by his shop in Midtown Manhattan though.---- John Allred NYC trombonist
SweenyBrass was recommended to me by several friends when I moved back to the Triangle area. I couldnt be happier with the work Scott did on my horns. Definitely a very skilled and knowledgeable Craftsman. Will do business again with SweenyBrass!
Sweeny Brass made my horn better than new! Highly recommend!
Absolutely beautiful work on a mangled Bach Strat trumpet. It was mishandled and dropped by customs overseas. Great Job Scott. We will be back for sure. Hopefully just for maintenance next time!!!
Great service. Thank you
I bought a 63 Conn 6H trombone from an auction site that was seriously dropped or stepped on. One of the inner slide tubes had also come unsoldered. Scott took a bent horn with awful dents throughout, especially the tuning crook, and worked his magic on it. The dents are gone, the horn is straight and the slide is smooth. Hes a craftsman and an artist in what he does. All this was done for a VERY reasonable cost. Dont hesitate to bring your brass instruments to him, hes top notch!
I wish I took a picture of my sons dented trumpet. Mr. Sweeney did an exceptional job of fixing all the dents and cleaning the trumpet. It looks new and sounds great.
A professional, a craftsman, a well taken care of shop. Quality like this is a rare find.
Scott definitely knows his brass instruments. Instruments repaired at a very reasonable price.
Scott has worked on three of my trombones. From a 100 year old Holton Special, to my custom Shires, to my standard Conn, his work is consistent and the quality is unsurpassed! With comparable rates (with the big stores) and a friendly attitude, Sweeneybrass is the place for brass players and their instruments!
Scott Sweeney is the boss of brass repair. Hell tell you whatever your instrument needs and doesnt need, and will work on fair price for the kind of work you want done. I just bought him a beer! Check him out!
Great guy, great service, and hes even a good musician. Highly recommend, especially for trombone players since he is also a trombone player.
Amazing service, incredibly friendly!
Great service, excellent results....youll be amazed!
Needed a stuck valve fixed and a valve stem relaced. Scott turned the job around quickly and checked it over for a few other minor issues.
Great brass instrument repair.
Scott is a magician. My slides have never felt better! Whether you want a water-key adjustment or a custom horn rebuild, SweeneyBrass Repair is for you. Check him out!
