Great selection and pricing! Youll find a wide variety of 4/4 to 8/4 domestic and exotic hardwoods, including lots of beautiful black walnut boards and grade A-1 plywood. Ive learned of other places across the country charging quite a few more dollars per board foot for this stuff.Im a somewhat newer woodworker, but after a little travel and looking at lumber in other locales, I learned that hardwood retailers like Hughes are few and far between. Were lucky to have them! Itll be a sad day when I move.

Great selection of wood and very helpful staff. We replaced all of our old base floor and door molding with 1 x 3 Maple. (Pictured are both Maple and the darker Walnut, which we used in 1 bathroom) We hand picked the wood and Hughs cut it to 3 inches wide. At home I lightly sanded it and put several coats of polyurethane on. A contractor installed the molding with a nail gun. Its a beautiful look (natural wood everywhere) for no more than typical molding at a big box store. We also recently made outdoor tables with white oak. Just biscuited the wood together, and hand planed and sanded the wood before finishing.If youre new to hard wood stores, its good to know that the wood is cut to a certain thickness, usually 1 inch (which is called 4/4ths) or thicker. However, it will vary on widths and lengths. Hughs will cut the wood to certain dimensions for a small price. Lookup the concept of boardfoot before going, if youd like to understand the pricing, but theyll explain it. Its basically the cost of a 1 inch thick board thats 12 inches square.

Absolutely love this place. Fantastic selection, great quality, great service. They can rip and plane boards as well which is incredibly helpful. I always recommend this spot to anyone who asks me about a good hardwood store. Moved a bit further away from it recently and I still make the trip there cause its worth it.

Best place to get wood hands down, these guys rule. Heres some of the gold in my shop from them, front to back.... red oak, walnut, cherry, poplar and purple heart.

Drove 120 miles to buy lumber here today. It is 1:20 pm and the door is locked. Supposed to be open until 4 pm. No answer or recording when I called to find out the hours. Two others cars and a truck are also here wondering why theyre not open.

This is probably the best place in the Sacramento area to buy exotics and hardwoods from sizes 1to 2 inches in thickness. The stock of hardwood is steady but some of the exotics vary depending on supply. The prices vary but seems to be cheaper than most other places in town.

Kind and down to earth. They were very patient as I did not have specific knowledge of what I needed. They took the time to explain what I was looking at. I truly appreciated their assistance. Travis was extremely helpful and patient even with my lack of knowledge. He made me feel at home just by having an actual conversation. Hughes is an A+ in my book.

Excellent selection of lumber that you will pay a little more for, but the quality I believe is worth it. The employees here seem fairly knowledgeable about the different types of wood. Watch your wallet here its very easy to spend a lot of money without realizing it.
