I love the store for the homemade food and salami. Everything that they produce in the kitchen including the Napoleon cakes are just absolutely fresh and always delicious. I dont have to cook. Elena, the new owner of the store, as well as her daughter Myra are always very helpful and friendly. They are very passionate about what they do and take special orders for things that I especially like. I recommend the Russian salads and the selection of soups.

Out of the way, really have to look for it, very crowded but you will find lots of surprises inside ( especially for someone coming from another state where the access to Eastern European food is limited). Some good Romanian items too!

This store makes amazing, absolutely delicious homemade style cakes. I love them! Not too sweet, fresh, soft...! And youll never find anything like that in regular stores because Russian Gourmet uses unique recipes and only natural ingredients – thanks for that!

I absolutely love this place! When I crave a real Russian homemade food I go to see girls at Russian Gourmet. Everything is very fresh and delicious. They have a big variety of everything... Candies, cakes, kielbasas, pierogoes, caviar and etc My favorite is Napoleon Cake!!!Also, I read some complaints about food being expired....just FYI, in Russia, we use DD/MM/YY..... thats where misunderstanding coming from. I have never had expired food from them. They actually have a separate section for the product that is going to expire soon (within next few month) but NEVER expired.Instead of slandering someone, make sure that you got info wright at the first place....

The one place that you should visit for your food shopping pleasure is the Russian Store. There you will find many eating delights from fresh meats to baked pastries straight from the oven, and a couple of isles of teas, jams, cookies, and other tasty treats.

Little store with variety of Russian and European foods. Significantly raised their prices lately for no obvious reasons. Make sure to check expiration dates on some of the foods as they often are expired.

Review №13

Great selection of staple Russian deli products like salami, cheese, lard, smoked fish and caviar (the latter is exceptional), famous Russian, Ukrainian and Baltic chocolate, ice cream and other sweets, preserves and canned vegetables, various dairy products, homemade bread, salads and so much more. A real gem if you are looking for traditional Russian food. Good selection of Georgian, Moldovian and Armenian wines (kagor is a must-have). Very reasonable prices and a very friendly staff.

Always fresh, better than home food. Good selection of Russian, eastern European, Caucasian cold cuts, cheeses and produce. The real jewel of this store is their in store made food: borscht, salads, meats, bread and sweets. Be aware though, if you are not planning to buy some kind of food, do not taste a sample, it is impossible to resist to get more :). Also NEVER try the store made baklava... It is the best baklava you can try anywhere, it is made with honey instead of sugar, and simply melts in your mouth. And, yes, the service is always great and welcoming.

Really nice convenient store and amazing staff, always very helpful and suggesting what to get for a given type of food. Since new management took over, appears that store offers more variety of items, they seem to be fresher, and layout of the store has changed for the better. They also do a great job with the extra precautions due to Covid19, provide sanitizer and plastic gloves, etc. Highly recommend this store.

Our son was turning 10.We have decided to make two parties in one, for kids and for their parents. So we have accepted a national standard for kids: burgers and pizza. But what to do with parents? The solution came from Matreshka in Rockville. The food was so delicious that parents forgot aboutKids, and just enjoyed food, home made by Elena and her daughter Milana, customized for our occasion and delivered to the table. They also do catering, but this time we had close circle of family, and friends and we did not ask for catering. Matreshka in Rockville is our place to go for special occasion.

New but very experienced management. Much improved selection and quality. The best red and black caviar around, with very reasonable prices on sturgeon caviar. Love Lena’s baked stuff - the best baklava and gata - almost like my mother’s.

I agree that you need to pay attention to the expiration dates, which I always do and never have had any issues. Never had food poisoning, but the kalbasa does go bad quickly - so I make sure to buy enough to eat within a few days. Know what you want when you go in and youll be fine (just like any grocery store) and do not expect too much from the hard working staff - I know they can work on being friendly (I never had any issues... again, and am always very well treated and I come with one mission.)

I bought 4 cans of Russian red caviar here for a very good price. My son loves it so he opened it when we got home and IT WAS BAD. No wonder.......expiration date says its expired 5 months ago. Such a waste of money. The staff were girl and a boy, they were very nice.

For such a small store (the reason for only 4 stars), there is a wide variety of merchandise. In hot weather, just inside the front door, are ice creams and other frozen delights. Tea, including many Russian and Eastern European herbal teas (e.g. rosehips), preserved mushrooms of many varieties and seasonings, all sorts of pickles, including pickles with prunes, a wide selection of preserves, including quince, pumpkin, and white mulberry, plus authentic Russian and Eastern European grains and flours (so you can make those family recipes authentic.) Fruit syrups, nectars, wines are just like my grandfather kept on hand. Biscuits, cookies, and chocolates are all ethnic varieties.A small freezer section holds desserts, such as decadent looking tortes and side dishes. The deli counter has sausages, cheeses, smoked fish, salmon roe, and freshly made ethnic salads, such as beet, mushroom, cucumber, etc.The prize winner for me is the bread section. I found a real old-fashioned rye bread with no wheat. It is a heavy, dense bread with a fine crumb the like of which Ive only had at my grandmothers. I would hate to knead it, but I love eating it!In addition to all the food goodies, the Russian Gourmet stocks a variety of collectibles and Russian (perhaps other Eastern European) language books. Our experience with the staff was endearing. The store has shopping baskets but when my elderly neighbor asked for a cart, they brought one out from the back. When I was hesitating over a sausage, they offered a taste. They offered a senior discount and carried the bags out for my neighbor.I would definitely recommend the Russian Gourmet and plan on returning.

Disgusting! Most of the food expired and marked with later expiration date. When u whipe it off, you can see an expiration couple years ago. It tastes also as soiled...I was food poisoned over there couple times. I think my next wiser over there will be with department of food quality control! You are disgusting to poison people!!!

A third of the products are from cheap American stores. The staff is like a scoop in the 70s ... Cooking is like a cook from a school canteen of the same years. I wanted to hurry, hurry to run ... Russian Gourmet - it sounds more like a mockery.PS. I didn’t feel like writing disgusting things, excuse me, but, too vulgar, crony ladies, coupled with an upset stomach, left a nasty sediment after the cutlets ....
