Based on other reviews I decided to try this place. The coffee is amazing! I had the harvest latte and a salted caramel latte. Both were amazing. One of the days I had the avocado toast which was delicious. I also had the grilled cheese and dill soup. That dill soup was truly amazing. I really enjoyed that. The staff was incredibly helpful with both of visits. This place is top notch. I will be back if Im staying in this area.
So happy to finally return to one of my favorite coffee and brunch places downtown and I was pleased to discover the food and coffee is as good as I remember it. One thing I love about the Rose Establishment is that they make vegetables and healthier food seem like the only thing worth eating. I don’t know what they do but suddenly I’m in love with lettuce and carrots and avocado and the such when at home and other food places they seem like the least inspiring and interesting thing to eat. Today I had the Breakfast Regular and my goodness was it delicious! And the honey lavender latte was perfect. One complaint I had for a time before the restaurant closed for the pandemic was that it had become musty and a little unpleasant inside (where it hadn’t been before), but fortunately whatever was causing that issue seemed to be resolved as it was as pleasant and inviting as it had been before the issue started.
This place looks good on paper. Came in with high hopes but the food was meh. The brunch bowl had no seasoning or real flavor at all, and the fun guy trumpet mushrooms werent cut up so it was like chewing on a big piece of cartilage. I havent had to leave a restaurant hungry so this was a first. At least the soup and coffee was good...
We had such a great experience at The Rose today. It’s always had great food but since they reopened it’s really become a step above the rest. It’s one of the most charming spots in slc and has a lovely ambience. Alan was our waiter and he was superb in his service. It was one of the best dining experiences we have had at any place in the last two years. Complete excellence all around.
Ok, this is really a great find!! Historic brick building, funky-cool vibe. Not just friendly service, HELPFUL service. Our server, Guy took us through the menu and was extremely happy to describe the various items. Our meals exceeded our expectations. This is a wonderful spot to enjoy with friends/family.We will definitely come back!
Full breakfast is healthy and delicious. The special drinks are creative and expertly prepared. Pastries always fresh, inventive, and tasty. BYOWifi means folks come here to chat rather than camp out. Whats not to like?
One of my favorite spots in town, and I think I have extremely discerning taste! Coffee is on point and the pastries are some of the best Ive ever had. The ambience is comforting and Im obsessed with the patio. I also appreciate the choice one has between counter or table service. Every employee is just so charming and sweet. Everyone should try this place.
Food was great as usual. Coffee good as usual. They lost some loyal customers 😕. Sat at our table for awhile waiting for our coffee (cappuccino) and a green tea for awhile watching our new new neighbors receive their Cappuccinos( they barely arrived). Finally got my coffee and food arrived. My wifes green tea never arrived. Server said, you never got your tea( after we finished our meal)? I will make it to go. Wow. OK. Got our bill with a 18% $7.00.Already added. Goodbye!
This place is absolutely fantastic!! So delicious food and coffee and drinks to perfection. Didnt even have to modify anything and yet it was exactly what I wanted, to my surprise and delight!Little pricey but worth it. Will for sure be taking people here.
As an espresso connoisseur, this coffee shop not only has what I was looking for in their espresso, but their vibes are hard to beat. Whether you’re looking for outdoor or indoor seating, a place to relax solo or invite friends, there is plenty of space for quiet as well as inviting enough for your people. Dennis, Francis, & the manager Alan will make sure to take proper care of you. All of the people there are wonderful.
Its gourmet food priced like regular food. The staff is very friendly, the decor is low key, almost rustic, and the atmosphere is pretty lively. They do both table service and counter service but I recommend ordering at the counter - it seems to be what they prefer. Youll still get servers coming around to check up on you and take away your dirty dishes. There are no visible political signs or flags which I appreciate. Some people wear masks, some people dont. Theres no wifi but Ive gotten away with working there on a weekday afternoon when its less crowded. Not sure if thats encouraged though.
Amazing gorgeous downtown location. Lived this so much. The rustic charm, the quiet background music, the finest people that live their jobs. Yummiest food, gluten free and vegetarian options. All teas and coffees on point. I cannot say enough good about this establishment. 10* stars. ☕👍 Dont miss it . Closes at 3 pm.
The new Rose is a disappointment. The food is good, but now there’s an 18% gratuity automatically added to the order. And they took away half the open seating so now you have to wait and make a reservation. The menu also no longer includes the loose leaf tea profiles. The hot chai had no flavor besides cinnamon and that’s because there was a ton of it. The Rose was better as a small cafe where you could go to get good food and relax.
Everything I have ordered from here is delicious. I tried their Harvest Latte this morning for the first time and it literally blew my mind. Autumn in a cup that one😍. All of the staff are beyond amazing as well.
Love this place. We were told it was day 4 of the new menu and it was soooo good. Lots of really nice touches and great flavor. By default they use whole milk in the rose tea, so be sure to mention if you want an alternative. They also now occupy the Pallet space so lots of room inside and out. Will definitely be back again soon.
If youre not vegan I wouldnt recommend. Everything has that gluten free vegan taste and the coffee is very bitter. The environment is incredibly loud, so if you need a quiet place to get going in the morning this isnt the place for you.
The Rose Establishment is an excellent place to eat. Yet they have manage to overcomplicate the simplest act of eating. Amazing how people used to manage their own ability to sit at a table and eat, but now they need someone to seat you. This is highly obnoxious.
Upon being greeted and expressing my want for coffee and food I asked for a table near an outlet. This was the prime opportunity for the employee to advise me there was no wifi at this establishment, but he did not. The ordering process was confusing as I was told to order my coffee at the coffee bar and the server would take my food order. Confused as to why I could not order everything from the server, especially if there is an automatic gratuity included in all transactions. I ordered my coffee and a pastry at the coffee bar, paid and tipped an additional amount on top of the included gratuity. I asked for my pastry to be served warm. After sitting back down the server approached me, I asked for the wifi in which I was told there was none. I advised I needed wifi to work and would need to forgo the other food. The server brought my pastry to me, it was cold. While I was eating my cold pastry another party came in carrying laptops, were seated and then after they ordered were advised there was no wifi. Amazed that a coffee shop in 2021 does not offer wifi and even more amazed at the employees lack attention to detail to queue to the guest that they do not provide wifi.
The Rose is a fantastic option for Breakfast and Lunch downtown. The Standard Breakfast is next level and I cant wait to work my way through the rest of the menu. I meant to take pics, but it was so good all that was left were crumbs. Next Time!
Tasty food and great service but very small portions
Had such a nice time here for lunch, the breakfast menu is open all day cmoooon man thats quality service right there. Really nice decor and theme in there, the servers and hosts were very friendly and helpful. On it with our food as well! Very tasty stuff, 10/10 service
They add an extra 18% to the bill automatically and then say you are welcome to leave a tip on top of that. Its located on a sign no one reads.Probably so they can hire 2 unnecessary Greeting Hosts because you know...people couldnt ever find tables for themselves before.
As with all restaurants right now, they seemed understaffed, but they were doing their best and not over-seating. Once we finally got seated, service was prompt and the food was excellent. We had a few bowls and sandwiches and everyone was happy. The vegan options were plentiful.
Really cute atmosphere but overall pretty bad service. We waited about 20 minutes to be served. My wife liked her food but my waffle was cold. Our biscuit was forgotten. Overall pretty expensive $50 breakfast. Not worth it.
Unfortunately I did not enjoy my time here. I loved the way things were before to serve ourselves but this time I waited nearly an hour just to get a to go box and to pay to leave. Not only that I didnt even get my glass of water I asked for until I was halfway through my meal. And unfortunately I wasnt very happy with the meal itself. I wanted two different things from the menu but by the time I got there it was all out, and they also didnt have the egg available for my meal so I had to choose the avacado which was quite hard to cut, it wasnt soft at all. Everything on the plate, the salad, rice, beats, ginger, I already had at home. It didnt have much flavor but a bit over salted. I was hoping for a unique taste, or something from the old menu that was quite different and delicious like, The Weekend. With the 18% service fee, which I hardly had and frankly wish I didnt, my meal was very pricey and not very great at all. I do not enjoy the changes and unfortunately did not enjoy the time here today.
Excellent!! Service and food were wonderful!! AWESOME vegan options. So impressed!! I will definitely be back!
This is probably my favorite spot in Salt Lake for breakfast. The breakfast foods all have a creative spin on the classics: cinnamon rolls, cheese biscuits, scones, avocado toast, etc. the coffee is amazing...but let’s be honest, I usually indulge in the mimosas:) The patio is beautiful in the summer/spring. If you are new to Salt Lake, or haven’t tried this place yet, do it! Come for breakfast!
This was such a cool place! All industrial and modern in a old building. Loved the atmosphere. Games to play and good selection of food, pastries, coffee and teas. They serve breakfast and lunch. The food was a little to different for my kids to enjoy, they did not find it tasty but it was nice to try. My London Fog tasted so good and fresh!
Charges a gratuity on top of high prices. I understand the reasoning but it could be approached differently maybe. They ask for tips on top of that as well.
Loved the rose, it was an amazing spot with amazing service. Last week we drove from ogden to celebrate their reopening... nightmare. We were told there was a half hour wait, but they were overestimating the time to keep a load off the kitchen (okay. We wanted cold chia bowls...) but that was reasonable. We were told to take a seat on the patio, and waited an hour and 15 minutes before we went up to check on our table. 5 names above ours had been scratched off the list as though they had been seated, in fact when we were talking to the manager, the people that were in line behind us were just wrapping up their meal. We had been forgotten... so we had to leave back to ogden (we came specifically for the rose.) The new system didnt seem to speed anything up, this was a very slow day for the rose from what I have seen before. Really hope they step up their game, but it will be a while before I recommend this to friends again. For now, ill be swinging to three pines.
Cute place if you like to wait >25 minutes for a to go coffee. I’m sure it’s a nice place to sit and stay a while.
On a road trip and stayed the night in SL. We needed a good nourishing breakfast and we found it here. We had the chia bowl, avocado tartine, and the standard. All delicious! we had a really nice time overall! Thank you for the delicious food!
Did not have a great experience here but I decided to give them a lenient rating given the fact restaurants are facing staff shortages and the fact they had just reopened 3 days prior. Plus their London Fog was the best Ive ever had! From where I sat against the bookshelves, I could peer into the kitchen area where I saw the kitchen staff chatting with each other. The kitchen staff came out a few minutes later 30 minutes after putting my order in with my drink and asked if I ordered the chia bowl--which I had not. I clarified I ordered a sandwich and they vanished for another 20 minutes, by which time I had been there nearly an hour! Throughout my wait time, I had waiters asking if I had been served yet, so it seemed like there was a lack of communication and organizational on the wait staffs part. I eventually flagged down a waitress to check on my order. She said to try ordering ahead of time to accommodate a 1-hour lunch period. I wasnt aware it took 1 hour to make a London Fog and Cubano sandwhich for a solo diner...I could make those in a shorter time. She left for another ten minutes at which time I had to take everything to go because I was late. The waitress did apologize and let me take my food on the house, no payment, with an extra free cookie. I might return in a few months once theyve had time to re establish themselves because I think they might be able to really pull off a top notch experience with a better level of service.
The space as amazing, the staff is awesome and the food is fabulous! I are here every morning on my business trip
Wonderful tea and tea latte options. Beautiful tartines.
The Rose Establishment is one of the classiest coffee shops in the city.I am bummed they are closed right now due to COVID! I’m hoping and hoping hard that they will open again soon. They don’t have WiFi and the reason was so that people could be present with whoever they went to get coffee with, or work on reading, whatever it was they needed to do.The building is beautiful and historic and the interior is just hard to describe and capture all the beautiful things about without sounding a little love sick.
My wife and I decided to grab brunch, on a Saturday, around 1pm. Even though we had never before eaten here, we expected there could be a bit of a wait, due to the time and day. When we arrived, the outdoor patio was full, although there was plenty of seating inside, which I prefer. Having never been here before, we approached the host and waited while the duo of ladies before us were seated. Having served in and managed multiple restaurant locations, I like to take stock of the atmosphere and see how things are running. There was no apparent commotion or hustle and bustle to indicate that they were overly busy or backed up. We waited at the host stand for five minutes before being greeted. The hostess, who was pleasant, asked us to grab a seat on the island table, next to the stand, until a server was able to accommodate us. We read the menu over the next five minutes and, by the time the hostess came to seat us, we knew what we wanted to order. After being seated, we waited an additional ten minutes before our waiter greeted or acknowledged us. We ordered two Brunch Bowls, a chocolate chip cookie, and a cup of coffee. The coffee and cookie took five additional minutes to arrive. The coffee was good. The cookie was huge, with gooey chocolate chips throughout its crunchy exterior. Eating the cookie left smudges of chocolate on your fingers and lips, as a great cookie will do! However, we had no paper or cloth napkins to clean up with. The manager, who I suspect noticed us trying to get this chocolate cleaned up, proactively came over to make sure we had placed our order and asked if we needed anything, at which time he thankfully brought us the napkins. The manager was personable, friendly, and seemed to be doing his best to check in with customers. It would be twenty five more minutes before our Brunch Bowls arrived. The waiter placed them on the table, realized we had no utensils, and left us to get some. I would consider these dishes appetizers, not entrees. The plating of the food was colorful, vibrant, and tasted of the earthy root vegetables, but it was not an entree. The meal literally took less than ten minutes to finish and thats with time to talk between bites. Our server seemed apathetic, at best. To us it felt as if he was impersonable, curt, and just didnt want to be there. Between the time that the cookie and coffee were delivered till the end of the meal, he never returned. There were no offers to refill coffee or to make sure we didnt need anything else. It wasnt until the check was delivered that another server stopped by to even refill our small water glasses. The time between dropping off the check, picking up the card to close out the check, and returning with the receipt was quite quick. As we prepared to fill in the tip portion, we noticed that a gratuity was already factored in to the bill. To be clear, the copy that you sign is about double the size of the copy you leave with and has many additional lines after the total, but before the tip portion. So when you look at it, you look for a total, in the middle of receipt, and then skip to the bottom to figure out the tip youre preparing to leave. There was no notice explaining this policy at the host stand, or listed in the menu, or anywhere near the tip portion on the receipt. In addition, the server never mentioned, explained, or verified that we were aware that this was added. Because of its odd placement, we only noticed it by happenstance. I am familiar with auto gratuity but, in my experience, its usually reserved for larger sized parties, not for a table of two, otherwise I would have specifically looked for it. I find the fact that our server never mentioned this quite duplicitous, seeing as there is still an area to fill in for an additional tip, which I suspect many people unwittingly do.The reason I am giving two-stars rather than one-star, is because I feel like the manager was invested and actually attempting to make sure customers were being taken care.
We waited 30 mins for our drinks also didnt reserve no refills for our water. Took a hour for our food. They werent that busy they said I could get a muffin and fresh fruit. That they claimed would be more then peaches they said it would be strawberries and raspberries. Once my food arrived it was only peaches and then they failed to inform that I wouldnt get my muffin until everyones food arrived.
My absolute favorite brunch place in SLC! They have super high quality food with great taste 😋 Im so happy they are back!!
The staff was pretty snobby and didn’t make me feel welcomed at all. The coffee and food was very overpriced for what I got. I did, however, enjoy the decor and how spacious the place was. There was a nice patio area outside with beautiful plants. Finding parking was frustrating, and I went on a weekday.
This is a great place for breakfast options. Service is good and attentative. Atmosphere is rustic and industrial. I had the avacado smash the five grain toast is top notch. I also had a macchiato which was well balanced and made well to traditional standard. I also added the tuneric pickled eggs which had a nice subtle vinegar flavor only downside tumeric did not have a flavor presence.
Worst service ever!!! Been sitting for 20 mins and still waiting for my coffee!
They didnt pick up phone, while I had a hankering for oatmeal. You only make that mistake once.
The best London Fog I’ve ever had. Made with lavender bitters and not too sweet. The breakfast bowl with avocado and egg had a variety of roasted vegetables and beet hummus. Also tried the rose latte who had was deliciously unique. I highly recommended this place. Must try.
Great tea house, great options
Went here for breakfast with friends. The ambiance and service is amazing. The breakfast menu was all vegetarian and looked good. I had 9 to 5 and it was absolutely smashing. Very healthy and wholesome fresh food. Great coffee and cookies. We had the Smashed Avocado Tartine with an egg and the Rise and Shine.

I love this place and their food and drinks. I’d love to give it a 5 star. However, the ordering and checkout system mist improved as waiting for 20 minutes to go through loterally 5 people ahead of me is not suatainable if you just want a coffee or a pastry to go. They need a second register or table service if they can’t handle at the counter. I’m hoping this will change in the near future!
This place is usually crowded on the weekend but thats because its so good.... Oh and because its a hipster scene. That being said, I think if this shop was in San Francisco, it would still have a line out the door. The food really is good though. Pretty much anything you order is good. The pastries are off the hook! But this place couldnt have such a great feel if the building wasnt so freaking dope. I remember when the building was Big City Soup and I would go for the vegan soup, but also for the industrial, big city type feel. Places in Salt Lake just dont have that feeling that cities with history have; old brick buildings, cut at angles to allow for train tracks or canals. No, SLC is just a boring grid. Except for pierpont, and the cool building that The Rose Est. inhabits. So if youre still reading and havent decided to already, I think you should take my recommendation and get going to grab a cup of delicious Jo, a West coast hipster pastry, and an urban east coast feel in a sweet part of downtown SLC.☕ Photo is of their chia bowl with coconut milk. Kind of reminds me of Kozy Shack tapioca pudding that was super popular in the late 90s/ early 00s - yet another addition to their millennial ironic hipster feel.
Coffee shop with no wifi?
This is a great place, but not for everyone. The coffee is high, high quality, but the blends are very sweet and floral and not for people who really like bitter coffee. Its also always slammed in the morning, especially on weekends and its a small place so not a lot of places to sit. Because of this, if you want a pour over it will take 15 minutes or more. With these things being said the food quality is amazing, the bread is some of the best bread in Utah and the tasted are great. Their avocado toasts are delicious and their sweets are good.
I met my wife here on our first date and two years later I proposed at the same place. Great spot!
This is not your eggs & bacon breakfast place. This is your Rise & Shine breakfast place. The second you walk in there, you can smell the fresh coffee beans and feel the good vibe. I totally recommend this place. Take a friend or come here by yourself. You will never be disappointed. Food has lots of flavour and its very fresh. They serve Mimosas too!
