I am so glad I had the opportunity to visit the new Watchtower location! I was certainly a fan of how homey the last place felt, but this new building is just so impressive. The decor and vibe is all extremely cohesive, and the interior and exterior layouts are very comfortable. I also adore the painting on the doors of the staff members! There is an interesting collection of artsy books, vinyls, and comics available, as well as some specialty chocolates and cool tee shirts. I was also lucky to receive some free stickers, which are also of impeccable design. But the best part is that the coffee I had at Watchtower was the best I have had in MONTHS. I havent had much time or budget for a while and have only had drinks from Starbucks or at home. Going to Watchtower and having that Solstice Mocha was like the first time I tried a drink I actually liked. It was so refreshing and honestly just good for the soul. The Solstice chocolate sauce and the perfect espresso were just so lovely together; I cant stop thinking about it!I look forward to coming back many, many times in the future!
The new location is very nice, still with a selection of graphic novels to look through while waiting for your chino.
Its a new place compared to the previous location a few years ago. They are still requiring masks for everyone, even fully vaccinated. However once you get the coffee or whatever you order they have a nice covered area outside where you can take your mask off if you so choose. I love this place because it is for gamers who play board games and those who love comic books
Wowzer this new location is STELLARThey sell great quality coffee + accessories, chocolates, teas, snacks... Then theres the menu!Sometimes the music is mellow and laid back, but this Sunday theyre poppin Dianna Ross. What a vibe. Records and comics, tee shirts, masks, and more. Either on the patio or seated inside, this is a fun coffee shop!
Good clean crisp vibe. Curated comic books, good coffee. Entrance is hard to locate based on Google maps, located on main road, not the side road. Sign is painted on the door. Look for the umbrellas and flags.
Great tasting coffee. Every time I’ve gone in, I can over hear people from the community sharing their love and support for this local spot. Even tourists have come in to chat/see the comics available. Really awesome place, I like the vibe of people that also like this place. Knowledge on coffee and comics are impeccable. Coffee staff is really cool. I dig it. So they started selling this Gourmet Lolo Sauce. It’s been sold out twice when I tried to buy it, finally I got my hands on it and wow! Put it in some coffee, put it on some pastries. Delicious.
This place is awesome! Way more than your average coffee shop. They have way more to offer. Tons of games to play. Plenty of comics to read. Even little caves you can go hide in to get some quite time. On top of that the staff is great! I was helped by Corey who really knows coffee and she was really friendly with all the dumb questions I had. If you havent been here you defiantly need to check it out. Its more than just a cafe.
This place is fantastic and has amazing coffee. Their customer service is the best I’ve encountered - I forgot to order my latte iced and when I mentioned it they remade it on the house even though it was my mistake (which I apologized profusely for!). I will definitely return and bring my friends!
Comic shop + Coffee Shop that pulls off both concepts really nicely. LGBTQ+ supportive loud and proud. The new location is beautifully designed and Im excited to see what the shop owners have in store for it.
They didnt have boba but I got an earl gray lavender tea with milk, cold and it was amazing! The comics where cool as well I found a nice one for my son and the staff there gave it to me for free. (:
Great espresso, very enjoyable with a distinct flavor. Love the comic books!
Awesome little coffee shop with an added bonus of graphic novels/ comics available for purchase. The bourbon barrel aged cold brew coffee with a touch of the homemade tahitian vanilla add-in was absolutely a winner and I would not hesitate to come back if were ever in the area again!
Great place to have a cup of coffee with friends. Friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere! Highly recommended.
Theyre open for dine in during the pandemic! Watchtower has seriously been a lifesaver for my mental health. I can come here and work safely instead of staying at home all of the time. Plus, the owner is super nice and personable, and helped me figure out what blends I would like even though Im new to coffee. If youre a nerd who loves coffee, youll feel right at home at Watchtower. Come give it a visit!
This is my neighborhood coffee shop, and I couldn’t be happier about that fact! The owner makes your coffee and he always does a great job! They also have specialty syrups for caramel and chocolate that are infinitely better than regular coffee syrups. The new location and shop is a huge upgrade, cool furniture, perfect patio. 11/10!
Finally someone who can make matcha also husband was very pleased with his vanilla coffee drinkGreat job guys
They call out their caramel latte for a reason. The baked goods are also great (egg and potato danish and coconut coffee cake).
Fun coffee shop, the vibes are nice and the games and comics are cool
Fantastic spot; great place to kill an hour. my latte was perfect (and affordable!), there are free stickers and pins, 25 cent comics, local sodas and ingredients, stickers from local artists, and even the music is good. I can’t recommend it enough and post-covid, it’d be a great place to spend an afternoon, get some work done, and enjoy the vibe.
Good people, good coffee and very good pastries.
Great atmosphere, down to earth employees that arent lazy or rude. And the best caramel late Ive hadIn my life! I highly recommend this place!
Yummy coffee with cool vibe close by to my casa so I love getting to come to Watchtower since it moved from its old location!
Been coming here for years, back when it was the State Street location. Its recently moved and I visited here with my boyfriend, we had to get two drinks each because the first ones were so good we needed more for the road. They have a ton of really good and cheap comic books and their staff is fantastic. One of my favorite places to go. Very queer friendly too! If youre looking for a good place to go get coffee this is it.
Excellent and knowledgeable staff. Cozy with seating, comics, albums, snacks and really good coffee
Watchtower is a great coffee shop with good drinks, delicious pastries, and a really awesome staff. Weve been going back every week! We love it!
Great atmosphere and even better coffee!
Tailored pick of records and comics. The coffee and pastries are very good.
Best local coffee shop around!
Delicious coffee, owner is really friendly! The comics make for an added bonus. Highly recommend this family owned business.
The tea was really good.
My favorite cup of coffee in SLC. Great atmosphere, great conversation and seriously, delicious coffee.
My only though about this place is Freak Yea!! This place is so unbelievably cool and awesome.. Like.. you can order a regular coffee cup that has 4 shots of espresso.. whaaatt?! While the prices are a bit steep, it makes up for it in coolness. Youre not just paying for the food/drinks here, youre paying for the coolness. It is the perfect study location with coffee and snacks (legit just ate their cinnamon toast, which I havent had since I left for college) and plenty of study room with good little break options if youre cramming too hard and need to play a game for a minute. Theres legit an arcade box thing to my immediate left as I write this. I cannot imagine a better place to study! Especially after cramming at a library or other serious place, and just needing a relaxed environment that you can still study in without losing your mind.
The staff is always friendly and the space theyve created is beautiful and unique
I used to love to study at this place when it was on State St. Their new location is very nice but its more of a store now. Theyve got tables outside but inside there was only one. Dont know if its because of COVID or not but I was disappointed. I loved studying in their booths with a lattee and their delicious BLT sandwich before they moved.
Best Coffee shop in SLC
They use biodegradable straws, theyre queer and transgender inclusive, and they stayed after their business hours to make me an order! Great business, would recommend!
I had great time! Great customer service and yummy coffee
Such a cool little coffee shop! They had this pumpkin coffee cake that was to die for. Owner was super kind and friendly. Super helpful in helping me get into the WiFi. Would recommend!
I live in this neighborhood and the coffee here is the best in town by far! I suggest the salted caramel latte. They use real caramel, no fake flavor pumped into your coffee at this place! I highly recommend it!
5 star atmosphere and 5 star staff. 4 star coffee. Great wifi! Super fast! Good vibes overall.
Solid coffee with a personal touch that every neighborhood needs!
Great coffee with a nerd vibe. Friendly staff. A welcome part of the SLC experience.
Love this spot! Only good coffee shop in the area. They know how to make a cortado.
This was our first time at watchtower and we absolutely loved it. It has the coolest vibe and the caramel latte was so good. Highly recommend this place. We’ll be going back to try the masala chai latte and turmeric latter.
Smooth latte but the espresso flavor is on the lighter side.
The owner Mike is always friendly and makes ahhhhhmazing coffee!! They also have really tasty pastries and desserts. Go support this awesome local coffee shop!!
Everyone is very nice. Like genuinely nice, that means a lot in my book. Hours are wonky due to covid so as of this writing as I understand it theyre open Friday through Sunday. That might have changed by the time you see this.
I stopped in for a bubble drink. It was good, but what impressed me the most was the friendly staff and the unique atmosphere. They have a comic book theme and it was clear everyone was having a good time. And by the way, they have nothing to do with Jehovahs Witnesses (I asked).
This is my favorite place in the whole world!!!! That is almost an exaggeration! My boyfriend and I stop by here all the time! The drinks are wonderful! The atmosphere is perfect! And the staff is great too! They do such a good job! I will always give 5 stars to a super unique, super awesome, local spot! ;)
The best
This place has always been one of my favorite cafes. They are warm and welcoming to everyone! They serve delicious nerdy drinks! And they openly welcome people to come hang out and take time to relax and play games with friends. If youre looking for a great place to enjoy some delicious food and drinks, definitely check this place out.
I love the shop. The atmosphere is awesome for coffee shop. One of the owners is amazing and is always so kind and has a great smile. I do love watching them make boba tea and I think its delicious. This place has a unique atmosphere and a great vibe. I definitely recommend to all of the comic superhero fans to stop by and give it a try. I always visit his place when Im in town.
I love the Watchtower Cafe. My friend and I serendipitously stumbled upon this place and were delighted by the delicious coffee, fresh bubble tea, all the comics and just the overall vibe. Its so positive and fun! We also discovered the Escape Room and took our sister and her friend yesterday. We were all surprised by how unique and challenging it was, and had a great time. Our host was enthusiastic, takes a lot of pride in the escape room, and is really keen for his guests to enjoy themselves. I highly recommend it!
Really great vibe! There are board games available that you can play. The ones I saw were more basic family games like Life, but there might be others. There are also arcade games and comic books. The drinks are great. A lot of really fun specialty drinks. There arent a lot of food options, mostly desserts. Last time I had some really great coffee cake. There was also a spam sandwich if you want something more savory. I wouldnt go here if you were hungry, just if you wanted a fun place to hang out or get work done while you enjoy coffee or soda.
Really cool place to chill and play games, mostly board games. Lots of tables and small group sitting areas. We used the sofa lounge group area and played a game, it was comfy, chill, and fun. Good snacks and drinks too, especially the custom sodas.
This is one cool place for all the super heros in us waiting for an expression. The style is very retro with comics, action figures and paintings of comic memorabilia all around. There is plenty (I mean PLENTY) of seating and some fun arcade games to play also. Coming to the coffee, this place is as legit and has some great options to choose from with some having a drizzle of their homemade caramel sauce.
Hot little coffee shop in SLC. We enjoyed our lattes, and americanos greatly.
This is probably my favorite coffee shop in the valley! I love the nerdy comic book theme! Also there’s tons of seating and outlets to plug in your laptop! I love it! The menu is super fun too and unique. Definitely worth exploring. My only critique is that the same drink can taste different sometimes depending on who makes it. Not necessarily in a good or bad way, just different.
Everything about this coffee shop is great. Its nerd culture themed (meaning its full of pictures and figurines from comic books, video games, Star Wars, etc), but its really great whether or not thats youre thing. There are comfy couches, nice booth seating where you can have private conversations, and open seating where meetups frequently happen. The coffee is good - I prefer cafe lattes, but occasionally I enjoy the Dark Knight, a mocha of sorts that isnt anywhere as overpoweringly sweet as others are, making it my favorite sweet coffee.
I love love love Watchtower! They have so many cool ways to kill time and be with friends. They also have all sorts of things to bring the community together. I met Mike and Cori at a cross stitch art show. They were so friendly and welcoming! Go there and support something local and unique!
When I go to this cafe I feel like I am part of a community. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, almost home-like. There are booths which afford more intimate conversations but the cafe also has open spaces where you can engage in games or conversation with other patrons.
The employees could definitely be a little more friendly... we are customers who pay your check not the company! The only reason why I go here is because its close and convenient but the customer service here is nonexistent..Please teach your employees how to treat me better without any attitude, Thank You!
A cultural hub for geek culture in SLC. Great coffee, even better atmosphere and staff.
Seemed like a cool little coffee shop. Loved all the personality and artwork displayed. They were out of what I wanted, but what I ordered will ended up being really good. Customer service was excellent!
I come here after my classes just across the street to study and do my work; the atmosphere and comic book aesthetic is a refreshing new concept I havent seen with coffee shops before until now.Coffee is my go-to here, but they have really good teas as well as arcade games to play when you wanna have a breather. 10/10 would reccommend, go check it out!!
I used to absolutely adore this place. They have great drinks and a fun atmosphere...but I really miss the later hours (was great foelr late-night study sessions), and I miss when they used to serve food, their hummus was the best. Still a good place, but not as good as it used to be.
I really like getting to go to Watchtower. A group of friends and I get together there to cross stitch once in a while and hang out, and we have enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and staff there. Sometimes the drinks are a little slow to get to us, but we go on Sundays, and there is usually only one person there. Not a problem for me at all as I would rather have a yummy drink thats slow over a meh drink thats fast. The staff are always really nice to us, and are very personable, and glad to recommend different drinks to me when I have asked. I love this place!
Watchtower is my go to place when I need somewhere to get go chill! I’ve only ever had good times there! The environment is super friendly and completely nerdy! I LOVE all the local art that they have hanging up and have even bought a few they have had for sell! I love how they help support local art that way!! I actually go there to draw most of the time and the environment only helps inspire me!Thanks watchtower!!!
A great place for comic fans and gamers, right across from Salt Lake Community College. A fun, colorful environment with urban geek art, and pop culture themed drinks in character mugs. Theres a comic book exchange, a local art gallery, and various tabletop and arcade games available. If you like Marvel, DC, or nostalgia-vibe pop culture, this place is ideal.
I have been a regular at Watchtower for over a year now attending a weekly community game night that is hosted within the cafe. The staff has always been very friendly, I have often had the pleasure of holding friendly conversation with whomever was on duty while they would make my drink. The premises itself is large with plenty of seating for whatever event you may choose to host. There is a main seating area, a quiet study hall, and the Gallery of Rogues has comfy couches and makes for a perfect spot for playing Dungeons and Dragons. All in all, Watchtower Cafe is a lovely place to stop by and hang out or study for a while. Theyve got comfortable seating, great drinks and yummy snacks to enjoy and I wish them the best of success in being a staple in their community.
The only place that truly understands my obsession with Italian sodas.Sometimes I wish there were more room, especially when we have draw meets.I think it would be cool if we could coordinate with the staff a day in the week/month a day for our group to draw!I love everything about this place! from the comic books, to the local art, to the arcade games, and the couches (so comfy). I like that i can also go sit in a booth way in the back if I want to be anti-social.
Great service and delicious drinks and food!Small notes:Bathroom needs a key, staff are completely happy to get it for you but just be aware.Drink sizes are on the smaller side, I think the large is about 20oz, but the prices are set to match, much cheaper than Starbucks or any chain shop, and better quality.
Great service. Drinks and food are awesome! I love the comic theme. Prices also very good!
Watchtower has an awesome environment with friendly staff and amazing drinks. They have free to play board games and a multitude of comic books you can sit down and read while you enjoy your drink. One of the best cafes in the salt lake area
So much to love with a few flawsThis place has so much going for it. The Coffee is good. The atmosphere is unparallelled. The games are a great draw and the arcade machines that go to charity are nice for a reprieve when studying or working at one of the booths of which there is no shortage. If not for just a few drawbacks, Id set up shop with my laptop daily and never go anywhere else. The drinks are a bit small. 16 oz is just shy of the 20 oz reusable bottle I bring. Its a minor anomaly though. Some of the booths are in disrepair or dirty. Finally, the bathrooms require a key attached to an obnoxious lunch pail that you REALLY do not want to think about the cleanliness of. These are fairly minor, but important enough to repel while everything else attracts.
This place is the bees knees. They gave me a discount because I was getting a tattoo next door at Ironclad Electric Tattooing. The drink was amazing and and the setup in there is awesome! I will definitely be going back. Highly recommend Watchtower to basically everyone I meet, even if they dont like coffee.
Neat coffee shop that offers a bunch of comics and art pieces for sale, as well as comic book merchandise and anime for sale as well. Their drinks are pretty bomb because they experiment with different flavors and honestly. I havent heard of many coffee shops nearby that do that anymore. Looking forward to returning soon!
They were having a soft open for friends and family when we happened to walk in. They were happy to let us crash and made me a delicious oatmilk latte.
They have a nice, geeky vibe. The drink quality varies from good to great. They could use new tables and benches. A great spruce up would be fantastic since they have friendly staff.
Coffee was delicious and staff was very friendly!
I used to love Watchtower; I would come here to study and get work done because they have a usually quiet area in the back of the cafe with tables with benches that I could sit in and focus, but its really gone downhill since the last time Ive been here. A few of the light fixtures are broken; the fabric on the benches are torn up; they werent serving really any food besides a simple turkey sandwich on a croissant that you could buy at just about any Smiths; they were out of most of the loose left teas and the boba tea flavors. I could go on.It still has the quirky flair that I know and love, but the people in charge arent doing a very good job at up-keeping it, which makes me sad because there was a time when I used to come here at least once a week because I loved it so much. Watchtower is open late and on Sundays, which is great if youre a student, but I dont know. Im still weighing whether or not Ill come back again after this time. If I do, it might be for nostalgic purposes or because nothing else is open with available seating.
