Some friends and I visited this place, which is right around the corner from Breakfast B*tch who didnt have room for us. This place had us seated in 20 minutes after placing our names on the wait list. We were able to have gelato and pastries before being seated in their spacious lobby. We set outside because inside was super warm on this Saturday afternoon. This place did NOT disappoint! I had the chicken and egg crepe with French toast & berries and the pineapple punch drink was delicious.
If your looking for a quick treat, decedent desert, or an experience for you and someone close this is a great place. Also a great place to grab a coffee and Tiramisu, read a good book and just relax.Staff are nice and very helpful, I would say it is not cheap though. Do not expect a low cost desert but you can expect a quality one.
Wonderful little place, outstanding service and a huge menu to choose from. The drinks were very nice and the dessert I loved. My wife had an eggs Benny and I had a pizza, plus we shared a portion of bone marrow. Please take this as constructive criticism as I liked the place a lot, but:The pizza was really nothing special, a lot of spices and some prosciutto and arugula on a seemingly prefrozen pasta base. You could taste the brick oven though which is nice. The toast that came with the bone marrow was really good, but I found it a bit too optimistic to give me so much of it for the amount of marrow we were able to scavenge out of the bones - they could maybe thinly spread enough for one. Wouldnt raise an issue with this if it were a light appetizer but for $20 I felt a little salty about it. I would probably cook the bone for a stock and then spice it instead of frying it - youd end up with a lot more marrow to play with and the soups could benefit too. Were definitely coming back, cant wait to try some other items on that menu!
Great place! Ive only but in for the gelato and chocolate but it is quite a treat. Amazing customer service too. Keep up the good work ladies and gentlemen!
Please do not eat at Chocolat, it was the worst customer service we’ve ever experienced. The waitress (I am choosing to not post her name) clearly acknowledged us, yet still waited on 4 other tables who were seated after us. We waited 35 minutes before I asked a waitress from another section to take our order. Then, after waiting another 30 minutes the food was delivered cold. There are so many great restaurants in San Diego, please go anywhere in town to avoid Chocolat.
My go to for awesome antipasti. The location and ambience is indicative of world class Hillcrest.
Had a chocolate and berry crepe that was good. The waitress was very nice and attentative and made sure everything was good and we had what we needed. Would come back and try a bunch of other things on the menu. Plus, with friendly people inside and great service, another reason on its own to go back.
Great food, great service, good menu and can’t wait to try something else.
We intended to come here for crepes after dinner but settled on gelato. We got seated outside at a table. I would recommend if you’re just getting gelato, just walk in and order from the counter unless you want to be seated for the service. The flavors on the menu is not their full extensive menu. You should also walk inside to check what they have. That’s where I discovered the Kinder Bueno flavor. If you’re familiar with the hazelnut wafer chocolate candy bar, then this is for you.We got the two scoops flavor of kinder bueno and pistachio in a waffle bowl but they ran out of waffle bowl so we got it in a cup and asked to add a waffle cone on top.The kinder bueno tastes just like the candy bar and the pistachio is really nutty. I love the atmosphere of outdoor dining and took me back to Italy. However, it was impossible to enjoy because every few minutes, you’ll hear sirens and ambulance speed by.
Fun place, very nice staff. Had dessert but the food looked really good that other people had.PSA: Do not park in any of the Diamond Parking company lots (one says “Eye Care” on the spaces). That company is an absolute scam. We paid for 2 hours of parking at exactly 8:00pm, then it printed us a receipt saying it expired at 9:14pm and they ticketed us at 9:18pm. Evil family running a company that is scamming the customers of the Hillcrest businesses.
One of my favorite places to eat. Crepes, sandwiches, amazing omelette and delicious gelato. People are friendly, I really love it here.
Cute little spot. The star reviews are a bit deceiving because it’s generic ingredient and the pastries don’t stand out. Overpriced, don’t get the crepes they are normal size and charging 15 dollars
Very glad I chose this place for our last intimate Valentines before our twins come over. Really nice place and friendly staff. Tasty food and yummy chocolate. And absolutely big menu that make me confused to pick the food. Definitely need to go back to try their fruity gelato and get another dishes.
LOVED IT SO MUCH. My family and I loved eating gelato here. This is THE BOMB. We will definitely be back. They have great selection. Its exactly like gelato shops Ive been to in Italy, down to the ice cream flavors, the little spoons they give you with each serving, and the taste and durability of the waffle cones. 10/10 would recommend to literally anyone.
Always a great experience at this place! Staff are great! Food is excellent! Pacherri pasta highly recommended! Will never get tired of this place!
I really enjoy chocolat which is located in the heart of Hillcrest. The service is fantastic. They are assertive without being intrusive. We ordered the boar sausage omelette and the classic pancakes which came with fresh unfrozen fruit. One savory dish and one sweet dish, both were great! We also ordered a nice bottle of prosecco. If you are in the mood, the gelato is fabulous as well.
As a chocolatier, this place is pretty spectacular. Well prices and counter service is great. The staff is knowledgeable, personable, and make it worth tipping. Five stars. All of my chocolate loving friends get gifts from here.As a cafe or restaurant, my experience has been decidedly average. Nothing wrong, but nothing notable. There are simply much better options on the same block. If those places have lines, this is perfectly acceptable. Somehow the service is not nearly as good as the walk up service. Three stars.
Great gelato...friendly service. a little pricy yet overall, the experience is consistantly good.
10 years ago I stumbled upon this magnificent shop with my now husband. It was one of our first dates and I introduced him to their gelato, which is to die for, for the first time. We got to go visit there again today and its only gotten so much better. You should definitely stop in whether youre there for dessert or for food. The place, the atmosphere, the desserts and the food hold a special place in my heart and its worth visiting. I would honestly give this a 10 out of 5 if I could.
It was okay! I ordered the filled strawberry french toast, it was good. They accommodated a party of 13 with no wait, so that was a plus.
Great location on a busy corner street..so lots of great people watching to be had. Elegant interior space, not too much seating as place is on the smaller side. There is a very large gelato counter with lots of wonderful choices. Full bar and full menu. Cant go wrong more in or night as they also have breakfast. Chocolates pictured are some of the truffles they also have. Great place if you have a sweet tooth!!
Lovely place! Great for a small bite, or just coffee and desserts or even a whole meal!! We saw several folks walk in just for the gelato or their chocolates (which looked delectable!)The food was awesome especially loved the pesto gnocchi and the caprese plate. They have a decent wine selection and lovely folks working there as well who were knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. Service was quick and food was great! Kids loved the pizza and desserts as well! Highly recommend them!! 😊
We ordered the chocolate ravioli, which is supposed to have chocolate shavings on top; it had none. Based on the writers recommendation, we ordered a kids side of pasta for my son. It was neither kid-sized nor kid-priced. It was $10, and a plate-full of buttered penne that we ended up taking home because the ravioli was more than enough for all three of us.We had 3 scoops of gelato for dessert. The waiter made a big deal about the gelato being made in-house, but it wasnt very memorable. The best part of the meal was the dark chocolate hot chocolate, which was made-to-order, and was as decadent as it was delicious.
The panini was good. but the manicotti didnt taste right, and they didnt sanitize the tables between customers😷
Amazing crepes and brunch spot. A lot of variety and great location. Staff was very helpful.
Gem. French toast was incredible. Service was fast and friendly. No wait. Highly recommend.
Great crepes, friendly staff, tasty gelato. Told us our takeout order would be done in 20 minutes, but was not ready for 40. That said, time was just after the lunch rush so only so much they could do.
Very good taste and flavor for the dessert
Very chill spot in Hillcrest with a dog-friendly outdoor dining area! I enjoyed the choco and banana crepe. Thyme Bellini was good too!
We to wait about 5 minutes for Sunday brunch around 12 so the wait time was amazing. Cute and well thought out patio area. Great service.I forget what theyre called but the dark chocolate coffee drinks we had were delicious! We both got 2 each because they were so good. Though my husband jokingly complained that mine were prettier.Hubby enjoyed his ham and bechamel crepe but said it wasnt the most amazing one hes ever had. I loved the flavor of the cheese and mushroom tartine. The flaky sides were great but the bottoms were completely soggy and almost looked raw.Well be back to try some other things soon though!
Had the chocolate mousse which was great! The chocolate coffee was ok but Id probably go with something else.
Food was good, service was a little slow and it was not busy that day. Took a very long time to find our waiter after we were served.
Positives-nice ambiance and fairly friendly employeesNegatives- we came in for crepes and we were really excited to eating at such a lovely place but when it arrived the presentation looked cheap and the meal itself was underwhelming. I would not come back.
Very neat friendly hip clean cafe with great coffee! We had two Cappuccinos and a hazelnut coffee, and it was GREAT! Didnt try the gelato bar or the food but everything looked and smelled wonderful. They also had chocolates and pasties/cakes by the piece. Definitely an awesome place to stop to eat lunch, have coffee and / or gelato. Will come back when in the area!
Crepes of every kind! As a traveler I love finding new experiences in food. They also had a large selection of gelato!
Lovely staff, great neighborhood and killer sweet stuff.
Very delicious staff was very friendly but if you sit outside just order everything you need even Utensils and extra napkins. For was great .
Amazing choice of crepes. Service is good. They had outdoor seating with heaters. Coming back for sure.
I had the chocolate chai with a double shot of espresso... Best chai Ive ever had.
Divine! Fresh, well appointed menu. Kind staff. The breakfast pizza looked amazing. Will be back!
What a cute bistro! Came here on a wet, rainy, Thanksgiving morning/noon and it wasnt too busy. I like the layout and interior of this cafe. It has a cozy, yet high-end feel, with reasonable menu prices. Came here for brunch and ordered a dark hot chocolate with whip cream, eggs benedict, Nutella and marscapone crepes, and an egg n cheese croissant. I enjoyed the crepes and dark hot chocolate, but Im biased towards desserts! Will definitely be coming back to try their gelato and other desserts.Update: tried their gelato - awesome!
Excellent gelato! Came on a super hot day.. and tada! This little cute cafe was just right around the corner! Tried some gelatos, and I must say, if you like pistachio gelato, this will be the best pistachio gelato you ever get! The kinder bueno is my other favorite! We sat down in the corner and the kind lady worked behind the counter served us two glasses of iced water. So thoughtful of her doing that on a 87 degree hot day! Will come again and try other stuff that they have!
1st of all this is an excellent restaurant overall. This particular review is for the portobello benedict only.Know everything on the late is incredible quality in delicious but I do want to say to my fellow benedict lovers that this may not be what your looking for. It feels theres a flavor aspect missing here with having the portobello instead of ham (or prosciutto etc). And its pretty good but didnt quite hit the spot and I thought I should tell you if youre on here to help you decide what to eat. Have a great day yall.
Great little spot on the corner. I go in and grab one of their drinks which I highly recommend
Excelente service, the food fresh and tasty thanks to all employees for you hard work
Great and quick service! Amazing desserts!
I like coming here, the food is good, and the service is always great.
Yummy Pitaya gelato! Nice clean toilets.
Super friendly staff! Great desserts and wine!
Always is a pleasure eat here or just grab a gelato.
Potatoes and omelette oil drenched. Syrup and jelly in plastic containers. Service was nice.
Fantastic little place right on the corner. The Gelato is delicious and the sizes are generous. Their medium has the same amount at a large at Baskin-Robbins.The gentleman working the counter was very kindand recommended different flavor combinations.Ill definitely go back.
A favorite location for tasty Brunch. One of the best spots in the area. Next time Ill be back with my coworkers. Mood here reminds me of Colorado Springs area.
One of my fave gelato spots!
Ive spent the past few years eating crepes in Europe, so I feel like Im qualified to make this review. The only reason I gave two stars is because the crepes werent terrible and the guy that brought them out to us was nice. Now to the good stuff. Have your ever been to a restaurant that hides all the prices on their menus? Look at the photo I attached. See any prices? The wall behind the counter has all of the crepes listed, but guess what? The prices are covered with paper.$30 for two crepes. Thats what I ended up paying. Was shocked when I heard the price. There isnt one place in the world Ive ever paid that much for two crepes—Paris, London, Barcelona, Athens etc.No I would not go back here. Check out Café Madeleine North Park. Excellent. A little pricey. But the quality is excellent and best of all, you know what youre paying ahead of time.Notice that I didnt mention the crepes that much in this review. Thats bc they were average. Not amazing. Not terrible.Ok bye now!
Service was very good, food delicious
During the covid pandemic it was nice to eat at a restaurant outside. We socially distanced and wore masks except when eating. At this time only health care professionals and those over 65 can receive the covid vaccine. Others could be carriers of covid. The young waitress handled dishes without gloves and went between tables of customers without washing her hands between waiting on each table. After bringing the food, she disappeared until after the meal was over. Although we needed more water and napkins during our meal, she never appeared. We ordered fennel sausage pizza but could not taste any fennel in the scant sausage. So we left wondering how much COVID had passed through the customers and looked forward to making our own fennel sausage pizza!
Great brunch. The desserts are a bit pricey, but everything is quite good.
Delayed service, uncooperative staff, they served many people who came after me and justify that this cuz they have new training staff !!
Great place
I have many go-tos in san diego for food; mexican, asian, italian food all have their joints to hit up.Chocolat fits the description for two reasons. CHEESE and CHOCOLATE. The mochas are phenomenal, the mozzarella is spot on. Hell you can bite into a mozzarella stick and itll keep stretching and stretching. They have a fantastic menu thats wide and inventive dishes revolving around chocolate. Come thru if youre here!!
This is a place I can see myself going back to just for the pistachio gelato. Parking in Hillcrest is not easy, but you just might catch a break, and I think this place is worth the trouble. I cant say much for the drinks, but the pasta, sandwiches, and crepes are pretty good. Its not cheap, but Id say the price is pretty standard.
This place is pricy, but its amazing!
