Very nice, stylish coffee shop!As an interior designer it’s very important for me to go to nice places with good interiors, ambience, coffee and food. The interior was stylish! I loved cute blue outdoor furniture at their “patio” area.I also loved the quality of pastry (we got quinneman with blueberries and ginger) and Flat white.
My friend recommended I try this place and grab a cheddar biscuit. Unfortunately, the biscuit is no longer sold here and they replaced it with a parmesan leek croissant. The croissant was OK - I didnt love it, but could tell it was well made. The flavors just bored me (maybe I was too excited for a cheddar biscuit). To drink, I ordered the rose dusted vanilla latte and asked for it to be iced. This was so good!! The housemate vanilla syrup was such a good pairing with the rosewater. My partner got the Zaki cappuccino. Its described to have fresh mint and cardamom - we were more excited about this than the rose latte, however there was no mint or cardamom flavor. It was boring and bland. The amount of foam was more than half so the drink didnt last too long anyways. I would come back for the rose latte and would have rated Holsem 5 stars if it werent for the disappointing Zaki and croissant. Its a beautiful spot with ample indoor and outdoor seating.
I came here pre-pandemic and it was awesome, and now 2 years later, I’m back in San Diego and this is the first place I came to get coffee. There are many wonderful coffee shops here but this is my first one. Plus, if you are a huge fan of flavored coffee drinks and/or cold brew stuff, this is the place.
Easily one of the best coffee shops I’ve ever tried! If you ever find yourself in North Park and are craving a tasty coffee, tea, or pastry, Holsem is the spot to go. Their creative twists on coffees such as the banana bread cold brew or strawberry malt latte have folks lining up down the block every morning for a cup of goodness.
While I’d really love to try more of their coffee before forming a definitive opinion we’ve been to wholesome twice and every time it was fantastic. They have really good food, great coffee, and some very creative delicious lattes. With plenty of space to work and outdoor seating I really don’t see any reason that wholesome, in my opinion Holsem is a fantastic coffee shop.Order: Cali Avocado Toast, Spicy Avocado Toast, “The Woods” latte (maple syrup, nutmeg, sea salt)Price: $25Review: We’ve been to Holsem in the past and really enjoyed it so we headed here for the second half of our workday in San Diego. They have a lot of seating (plenty of it outside), good food, and great coffee. On this go around we got one of their specialty lattes and some breakfast. The food is a little over priced but at least the quality makes up for it, and it is a cafe not a restaurant so this isn’t super surprising. The coffee has always been fantastic at Holsem whether we are getting a pour over, late, or some other creation. He typically end up here when we visit San Diego and we’re highly recommend it.
This coffee shop, like every other coffee shop Ive visited, offers an exquisite yet rustic ambiance. With their coffee, they taste better than other businesses in the city. I still have my morning coffee here before I leave for work. I still have a craving for their muffins and coffee! They are far less expensive than any other coffee shop in town. The very best!
Coffee was really good. awesome place and environment.
Love the seasonal options and the real ingredient house made syrups. Can be a bit crowded and parking is difficult, but both on par for the location.
They have some really fun drinks. A lot of them are just sweet enough!
Might be my favorite coffee shop in San Diego. Very bright and clean space. The orange cappuccino and rose-tinted vanilla latte are amazing.
If not the best, one of top three best coffee shops in San Diego. Their latte flavors are simply unmatched.
Really good single origin cold brew. The flavored cold brew drinks are interesting (I liked the lemon meringue), but I dont know why the menu says theyre made with nitro cold brew - they are mixed up with ice etc which completely removes any of the texture youd expect from nitro...
Delicious quality coffee, friendly staff, nice atmosphere
Too bad music is too loud and cant enjoy the coffee conversations with friends. Coffee is ok.
It was a nice experience for me for the first time. Mike was a humble guy that knows what hes doing and gets the job done well. Try their services and you won’t regret it for sure. The quality of service they provided was amazing! I couldnt ask for more! I will never forget to tell all of my friends and co-workers about this place for sure.
Beautiful coffee shop setting with a decent amount of seating both inside and out. The nutella cold brew was absolutely delicious, but unfortunately didnt give me the jolt I needed. Next time Ill add a shot for that extra slap in the face. :)
The atmosphere is younger though I felt welcome. Brew coffee was ok but it was busy when we were there. We sat out on the street seating. Nice and open, but I prefer a more intimate coffee house. It may be just your cup of coffee. Check it out!
I came to stay in San Diego for a month and lived near University Avenue. The first place I ended up going was Holsem. They were so welcoming, the baked goods were fantastic, the avocado toast was the best ever in my global investigation of avocado toast chefs. The dogs were welcome the coffee was great. That became my go to place for cafés while I was here and I will be coming back to that neighborhood again, and again, so grateful.
The coffee shops décor was elegant and inviting. Keep up the good work! It comes highly recommended!
Had a delicious lavender hot chocolate with one of my best friend. It was our first time in San Diego. We discovered your café by coincidence. Thanks for the memories. Take care
The banana bread cold brew sounds wild, but it is incredible.
This place is one of the best. Has the most unique coffee creations of any place I’ve encountered in San Diego. All the ingredients for their food are top notch! Their coffee is extremely high quality. I even buy their coffee beans to make my normal morning French press. Highly recommend checking Holsem Coffee out. Try something new from their unique menu.
Love their coffee concoctions, beautiful space too. Great service too 🐕🦺
[Update 2016-12-17] bumping up to 5 stars.. They have added more tables and rearranged the seating to make this the perfect coffee shop for all needs! If someone asks me whats the best cafe in town, Im gonna say its holsem coffee!![end update][Update] Im knocking one star off simply to keep a higher overall standard. The drinks and service here are top notch and I would rate them 5star + for those. The only reason to knock off a point is that the seating and tables could be better for students. All tables are wobbly and kinda small if you have to keep a book and a laptop on. There are other places that meet this requirement but their coffee is just not as good. Im going to revise my 5 star ratings of other places too. What a find! Im surprised I havent seen it before! Great place to study/work either alone or in a group. Coffee is great. Seating arrangements are very unique and people can choose from a variety of options.I love this spot right in a heart of North Park.
Beautiful decor, chill vibes, and AMAZING coffee. Holsem was great inside, the music to toned back, the space is open, but not loud or overpowering. The Cappuccino I had was made beautifully and tasted like heaven. The decor was modern, with cool colors, lots of marble and wood. Definitely my go to in San Diego!
This hip, beautifully designed cafe serves the best coffee Ive had in San Diego. They roast their own beans and have developed a delicious proprietary blend which I really enjoyed (two espresso options are offered). Refreshing, innovative signature cappuccino beverages infused with natural flavors (rose, orange, and a Cubano were on the menu) and nitro cold brew were also available. Cant wait to go back.
Good breakfast selection, chai tea latte was okay
Nicely modern and quiet atmosphere, with subtle bluesy music. The coffee was subpar, with a watery flavor, perhaps because of custom order. I requested a Honeycomb Coffee with homemade hazelnut milk ($1 upcharge). I was handed a paper cup, although dining in. Id come again, if my friends were already here... maybe not on my own.
The coffee is fairly good. The service is not bad but certainly lacking. On several occasions I’ve noticed the service has a familiar friendliness and warm chit chat toward white customers, that just is not there for other customers. I don’t know what the solution is, but I’ve seen it happen enough times that remaining silent would feel deafening.
Best cold brew Ive had in North Park.
A very cute and quiet place at University Avenue. I went in for breakfast everyday that I was in SD. This place is highly recommended. I had their breakfast sandwich without the meat. It tastes really good and the side of greens that they serve, its as good as the dish itself :-) I tried their famous banana bread cold brew and it was very different and good. However, the valrhona Mocha stole the show for me. Having it once had me sold and I never looked back. It tastes absolutely divine. Youve got to get it when you visit the place
Ive been here a few times, and every times their drinks make me say woah. My favorites in particular are the Lorange Cappuccino and the Rose Dusted Latte. Both are reasonably priced as well. And, as a bonus, they are always great with their latte art, and even put a leaf into their covered disposable cups, so make sure to peak under the lid.
We had a wonderful breakfast at this coffee shop last Saturday. The cafe team was very friendly and the service had delicious breakfast crepes and the coffee and the hot chocolate were also great. The atmosphere was friendly and the decor eclectic, with wonderful artwork around. Even the toilet was funky. We will definitely be back soon!
We went on a day where they had a pop-up with a local baker so the line was around the block. Still, the nitro cold brew was very good and the service was still great, even with a ton of people coming in and out.
The coffee is terrific!!! The service is excellent!!! The food is all right. Its a very nice little spot, and the coffee is particularly good.
The thing I like about this coffee shop is the aroma of coffee as you enter. They make very good coffee and nice food. Their staff are adequate and work hard to get customer satisfaction. And also a nice place for a quick chill. The service is excellent, and the view is amazing! Located on the beach can be a great spot. Surely I come back!
For drinks we ordered the Lorange Cappachino and the Ethiopia pour over. The cappuccino was SO good. It tastes like the chocolate orange candy. The pour over was also very good and smooth. For food, we ordered the Cheddar and Chive Biscuit and the Lemon Poppyseed muffin. The biscuit was AMAZING. Id come here just to have that tbh. The lemon muffin was good but not lemony as I would have liked it. Over all the space is cute, modern, and offers plenty of seating unlike a lot of the other cafes in this area. There are tons of other drinks Id love to try so Ill definitely be back soon!
This is right nearby my residence and excellent for coffee. They do soya milk, which is handy if you’re lactose intolerant. They also do a fantastic looking iced coffee. The tray-bakes and cakes are superb, and they also do fruit on skewers dipped in a chocolate fountain which my kids enjoyed. I strongly recommend this coffee shop!
The Chai Latte is perfectly spiced and the mint matcha tastes like ice cream.
Mint matcha latte w/ oat milk is everything🙌🏼🙌🏼 the vegan banana muffin is to die for as well
I like the taste of their coffee and the place was very relaxing. It was a good place to study and talked to your friends. The internet connection was also very affordable. I fell in love with this cute café and its staff the first time I popped in. A vast variety of pastries and beverages, vegetarian option available, very nice and welcoming atmosphere! I highly recommend this coffee shop! I am a loyal costumer of this coffee shop for many years. I had a great time in this place! A high rating and a strong recommendation for you!
Great service delicious matcha!!! Highly recommended :)
Their coffee is too acidic but the rose dusted vanilla latte was pretty good!
Only on Instagram have I seen such a beautiful soft leaf latte. Happy way to start my morning, thank you.
Creative drinks that arent too much, excellent service (rare for coffee shops), nicely done interior and consistency
Amazing! Best coffee shop in SD. Love the unique flavors. The lemon drop cold brew is my favorite, but I tried the mint cardamom this time. So good!
This place is awesome. Tried couple of coffees here they have a very subtle taste and flavor. My favorite is Rose Dusted Vanilla Latte.
He place is very comfy, they have fast and strong wi-fi connections and a lot of outlets for charging. I gave a five-star rating to this coffee shop because of their impeccable service and affordable prices. Their coffees are all taste good and really satisfy my needs. T I really love this place. Highly recommended!
The owner is an amazing woman and the drinks are so unique & curated with love!! I have been supporting this place since they opened, so happy to then open still & cranking out the bomb draaaanks
Not only are their coffee, teas, and food incredible, but there are also numerous independent artists who come to present their work! The first time I popped in, I fell in love with this adorable café and its employees.
I was really excited to try their coffee, but unfortunately their chai was very bland and I wasn’t able to distinguish the flavors. Maybe next time I’ll have better luck with another drink.
Loved the variety of different coffee drinks. The coffee is very good.
Great place to go when I’m in San Diego for lattes. Some days busier than other but overall good service.
Normally I would have posted a pic but food looked so good I couldnt stop. The bill was decent.
I will surely return to this coffee shop and highly recommend it as an official stop on a visit. Great for take out!
Great place for a good coffee.
Really tasty coffee. Bought the dark roast beans and it is really great.
Ive been here numerous times...and love it. It has a nice open light atmosphere, and great for a bite and beverage. All the drinks are amazing and recommend the paninis. Its easy to sit and get some work done or quickly stop in and get a drink to-go. The staff does an exceptional job keeping the flow of traffic going. Seeing all the dogs that come in is a plus!
The barista was rude and the nitro cold brew was just cold brew
They have great coffee and great bagel sandwiches, and the service is very fast. Will probably come back soon.
Lt was an amazing fine dining experience.
Probably one of my favorite coffee shops in San Diego. Try the woods coffee. It has a unique taste, and I would highly recommend it. This place Berber disappoints. Plus there are tables to work at. Would recommend!
Great coffee and espresso drinks. I had the breakfast sandwich, which was more like a breakfast panini. I guess it was good because I ate it before thinking of taking a photo to share with yall.I think the most unique aspect of the experience of going to Holsem is people watching. Specifically the front door. We sat on the patio and watched scores of people struggle with the push door with the pull handle. It is a real struggle, and would be the only thing Id change about the place.
The coffee here is fantastic. I also love the atmosphere. Its open and airy bit also pretty intimate. Come for the coffee (get the Woods Latte) - stay for the cocktails!
Great coffee! Everyday of the week.
Great local shop. Good coffee and service. Lots of seating inside and a small outdoor space with a few tables.
As a chocolate addict, the Lavender Mocha was the best mocha Ive ever had. Made with Valrhona chocolate. Delicious!
Cute coffee shop inside a comic book store. Staff is super nice. I like how they have comic book inspired drinks.
I know its a crime to drink a cappuccino after noon (according to Italians) but I couldnt resist ordering Lorange cappuccino. Its creamy with the right amount of sweetness and a nice touch of orange flavor. The Gouda sandwich was perfect!
Nice place to relax, people watch, eat good, etc. the staff was friendly and sociable.
The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Cooked meals seem to take a bit longer, but they give you a pager so you can get settled while you wait. The iced coffee was very good as were the benedict and breakfast burrito.
