The service took a long time but the food was delicious and well worth the wait! The staff were attentive and friendly and the whole atmosphere was calming, not too crowded. I would highly recommend it for a smaller group of people for lunch.(They also cook bacon just the right way, which is a major benefit)
I’ve now ordered from Jenning’s three times, each experience better than the last. I’m a big fan of most of their breakfast items, but my favorite to date is the Breakfast Burrito (scrambled eggs, black beans, bacon, cheddar, wrapped in a warm tortilla served with salsa & fruit, $12.00). The black beans really elevate the flavor and taste that many breakfast burritos seem to lack. The salsa was delicious, although I could have used more, and the fruit was fresh and sweet. I was so impressed with the burrito I was inspired to make my own at home. Now, I refuse to make breakfast burritos without black beans.Other delicious menu items I recommend in a heartbeat include Avocado Toast with Eggs (choice of toast, avocado, 2 poached or scrambled eggs, $12.50), and the Brioche French Toast (3 piece of house made baked french toast, topped with fresh berries and powdered sugar. Served with real maple syrup, and bacon or sausage, $13.95).
Nice little coffee house that lives up to the name. literally a house converted into a business that is located on the main Boulevard of Point Loma/Shelter Island. Once you walk in you automatically walk into the past with the feeling of a Victorian style decor. Front porch and rear deck has tables and overhead lighting like a home. Perfect for late night studying or just hangin out with friends. Full coffee menu to accommodate all your coffee and tea needs. I had the house roast with a extra shot and cream for the long drive home. Pastries are also on the menu but passed on the sweet stuff and opted for a healthy chocolate chip cookie in the shape of a heart. Ample parking at rear of building and street. Open late as oppose to everything else nearby, its all closed.Handicap ramp at rear of business.
Great ambience & service. Yummy toast. Had a scramble - eggs were dry & an unappetizing gray color. For the price ($13+), I was expecting better quality. Fruit was fresh.
No offense to the owner and all the people who im sure worked very hard on this place to make it what it is, but it has ZERO soul. super boring lazily put together atmosphere, cheap tables and chairs etc. you have to order and pay from your phone. the arnold palmer i ordered was so watered down, it didn’t taste like lemonade or tea. my breakfast burrito couldn’t have been more flavorless, every last ingredient inside was so meh, plus a salsa that was more like tomato paste and chunks with zero spice than real salsa. the burrito really should be called a wrap, as it’s an insult to real mexican cuisine. they only offer poached or scrambled eggs at this place cause they can’t be bothered to flip over an egg to make it over easy or anything else. eggs are flavorless. food came in a to go box instead of on a plate. my dads french toast and eggs were also flavorless and soggy. even our waitress was just spacey and soulless. the food was out of this world expensive for what it was. total waste and insult to my time and money. wouldn’t recommend, 1/10.
Shop will not take orders in person for dine in. You have to order on your phone. Owner and staff were very cold and impersonal. With so many good coffee shops nearby Id try somewhere else.
Excellent food, owner was very nice. Everything we ate was fresh, and tasted good. Will recommend for delicious fresh made food.
Turns out Im not a fan of replacing a knowledgeable server with a phone scan and online ordering. The experience was more like grub hub than going out to eat. The coffee was ok and the food was good.
The waitress was not very helpful. You have to order on your phone and we had a couple questions and it was next to impossible to get her to come help. We asked another table of people and they said it took them a long time to figure it out. We ended up going to BREAKFAST REPUBLIC and it was awesome. You should do the same.
Grew up here and loved the Livingroom back in the day. Coffee and Macha were good but took 20 minutes to make with no one in line. Have to do better than that!
Such a charming, yet deceptively sizable facility! Great service, delicious food! Got our party of 11 in with no reservations, and fast! 10/10 would recommend!
A little pricey. Spent over $40 with tip for 2 meals and a couple of drinks. But they have oat milk as a dairy alternative, and its delicious in my mocha. My youngest ordered French toast and my oldest ordered the Harvest Scramble. The fruit was ripe. I think the French Toast was worth the money; they use giant gobs of deliciousness (muffin tops?). Ill only come back after I have more disposable income.
We ordered a lot and each thing was better than the rest. The cinnamon roll was light and fluffy, the mimosa flight was fun and fresh, the French toast was some of the best French toast I’ve ever had, and the service is impeccable!
Great coffee americano, this is expresso and house coffee also have great whipped Italian ice cream
If you want quick service don’t go here. You have to set up your own app on phone with credit card before you order or get any coffee and then you have to order each item through phone app like self service. I needed sugar for my cold brew but had to walk back inside to get that after waiting 10 minutes. I ordered French Toast and it was weird like a bunch of croutons soaked in egg piled high and cooked with no taste. I barely finished that. Left in the back outside area with no service. The refill coffee that finally came after we asked for some was not coffee but a pitcher of water. Expensive, slow bad service.
Love that this place still feels so much like a house, even though its been converted to a cafe. Liked everything we got, the tea selection was wide, which is a big win in my book. Saw a lot of people working, and it would be a fantastic place to do that. Also quiet enough for conversation. Indoor and outdoor seating, downstairs and upstairs are open to customers. Parking behind, otherwise street parking, which can be hard to come by.
OMG I loved loved the avocado 🥑 toast breakfast & seasonal fruit 🍓 it was all so delicious.
Slow... Food was good, at least.
Had a breakfast burrito with friends, was good. Smoothie was tasty as well
Very cute. Its marketed as the oldest house in San Diego. We found it on google, when we were on our way to Cabrillo and wanted some coffee. They have parking in the back, which on a Saturday afternoon was quite empty. We ordered a white chocolate hot chocolate, the house coffee, a lemon tart, and the spumoni (hopefully I spelled it correctly) gelato. We decided to sit on the patio with a view of the neighborhood, which is quite cute. The hot chocolate was delicious. One of the better ones Ive had in San Diego. The coffee was not the kind of pick me up my boyfriend wanted. The lemon tart was lemony goodness, that wouldve tasted better freshly out of the oven. The gelato was a combination of plums, chocolate chip cookies and what tasted like a vanilla based gelato with cherry sauce. It tasted better when we took a taste, but it was quite good. They have seating in the rooms upstairs which can be quiet and loud depending on the crowd. Free Wifi. Good choice for people in the neighborhood.
My veggie breakfast burrito was perfect and I had a piece of bacon that was eyebrow-raisingly tasty as well.
I went with my friend ...they have a big patio...to take a meal ...just it took too long ...everything was good but was long waiting...so if you go ...take your time to orden and serve ok ?
We had A wonderful breakfast. I had a California scramble and rye toast it was fantastic. My wife had the harvest scramble with egg whites and it had sun-dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts with feta cheese. Talk about flavor it was healthy and delicious. My son had had the sourdough toast with avocado and he enjoyed it very much. They all came with fresh fruit which was perfectly ripe. The quality and atmosphere was a great way to start the day and enjoy the week. They have a very personal local staff they tried real hard and they do a great job.
Fantastic allergy friendly ordering, considerate of peanut, egg, tree nut, etc. Food is very good!
Staff friendly & food was good. Eating out of boxes a let down, even due to Covid. Shouldnt be charging full prices for cardboard boxes.
This was our first visit for a mom and son breakfast at Jennings house. I love the interior of the cafe, it is an old house converted into a cafe. We did wait a while for our food the large house has a small kitchen so keep that in mind if your in a hurry, it’s not Denny’s and they don’t have multi cooks and multi servers, the owner cooks and serves herself and she does a fantastic job for being slammed. Sit a while, strike up a conversation with others as you wait for fresh cooked, hot, CA style breakfast and lunches. Pass on the tolerance and kindness
Excellent food! Excellent service! If you dont stop in here you are missing out!
Great food! Best breakfast in San Diego.
I use to come here when it was called The Living Room. I was a college student at PLNU and would spend nights studying here. Today, I wanted to bring my fiancé here for some coffee and breakfast. I was still in the car when she and our little support animal (20lbs poodle fluff) when in to place an order. Well all of the sudden she came out and said we are not eating there because the server didnt even greet them instead just told her no animals inside and pointed her to get out. The main thing here was how she said it, she came across as if she doesnt like dogs. This is not customer service and employees need to be trained better on how to serve potential customers. We understand many restaurants are not accepting pets inside but employees need to understand that many pets are support or service pets. I am not happy about this interaction and I hope the manager makes an adjustment to the overall training of their employees but this simply was a bad first impression on this coffee house.
Place just isn’t friendly or welcoming anymore - such a shame as I had been coming here for 20 years
Had a take-out breakfast combo this morning. I wanted some different and I found it here. My food was hot and perfectly prepared. I was glad to find this gem. I cant wait for COVID to be done so I come back for a leisurely sit-down breakfast. Thanks for keeping standards up during this difficult time for small restaurants!
French toast was good.... the meat lovers scramble my husband ordered, he says was very good. I like the outside sitting area, so cute. the girls helping us very friendly. nice n clean place. definitely would go back.
Great brunch spot, service is super friendly, food yummy.
Great little local spot serving breakfast and sandwiches, coffee and tea, with nice seating on the porch and other outside areas.
Overpriced food that is given in a box. French toast is not French toast. Looked like smashed bread rolled in a ball… paid $46 for 3 small meals.
I had went to this restaurant in the morning expecting a good breakfast meal considering that they have good rating. This restaurant is terrible, by far the worst restaurant I’ve been to here in Cali and I’m just visiting for a little vacation from home. I’m there with 9 other family members and I, we walk in and asked where to be seated and we ask for high chairs for the 2 little ones in the family. We get seated outside in the sun with no shade, we asked our waitress for umbrellas for more shade. We waited 10 minutes and asked for the umbrellas and high chairs, another 10 minutes go by we ask again and still nothing. We waited for our waitress to come and help us figure this out we all realized that we had a new waitress. We ask her if we can move tables around to get in the shade, her excuse was “the tables are bolted to the ground”... then we place our order, almost everyone at our table ordered French toast since it was popular. As soon as our waitress took our order and left we look at all the tables there, not a single table was “bolted” to the Ground, the tables were on dirt or on the parking spots. Bout 20 minutes go by still no high chair or umbrella and out waitress comes back and says “I have terrible news, we just ran out of French toast, our boss makes fresh something” (I didn’t catch what she said it was either bread or batter). We were so mad because French toast is on the kids menu and the regular menu and we look around and there is other families there that probably were going to get French toast as well because it’s “popular”. She also wasted our time by having us sit in the sun for roughly 20-30 minutes After taking our order to tell us the news. They should have told us bout the “news” right then and there or 5 minutes after taking our order. We were the Only black family there, I feel that when our first server switch was cuz she was uncomfortable with us. Which is also why they they didn’t give us the umbrellas and high chairs and made us sit in the sun for long time before telling us. One last thing there bottles have brown or black stuff under the cap when u open it. I was the one who noticed it and told everyone not to drink the water due to the cap because we didn’t know what it was.
The Jennings House Cafe is easily my *favorite* coffee shop anywhere in San Diego! Amazing history, great service, the best dark roast coffee Ive EVER had, awesome location and good eats. Hit hard by Covid-19 restrictions, operator Ms. Cathy G. still continues to foster very deservedly loyal customers at this neighborhood jewel! Dont miss it, a rare find, just dont be foolish enough to take it for granted or let it fade away! Support the Jennings House!
Even though we are seated at the very back deck, the server still constantly checking with us. Thats truly appreciate it. I hope next time they can turn on the heater, because it was around 7 A.M. to warm us and our food :)
Fun place to eat
I will continue to to support this small business, but when I have no other options. It is very overpriced for the quality and amount of food served. The HALT sandwich was overpriced, and was flavorless. It was also very small and I am still hungry.I love that there are vegan options and wish that there would be more! The staff could be more friendly.Perhaps offer the customers more for their buck?
Great place to get a latte, a bite and get some work done!
Oh my gosh ! We loved this place. Went there for breakfast. The waitresses were amazing. The food was perfect. If I could I would give them 10 stars. Easy parking . We live about 40 miles away but will definitely go back.
Great food & coffee
The food was wonderful, great setting and excellent service
I have never waited so long for such mediocre food. The bacon wasn’t cooked, my poached eggs were hard boiled. Food Luke warm. Never again....
We had an amazing breakfast . Lovely ambiance, great menu healthy options and variety and amazing service !! A must visit if in San Diego .
A must visit. The Jennings House Cafe is nestled in the historic part of town, so cozy and inviting. The breakfast was as appetizing as it looked. Coffee was just as good. Inside was cleverly decorated, the outside seating was a great place to enjoy my breakfast. Staff check back a few times to see if I wanted to enjoy other selections they offer.
Fantastic, relaxed place for breakfast or to hang out, with friendly staff and owners...and bonus, they are open early. This is important for those of us visiting from east time zones. The food was delicious, with generous portions and the coffee was excellent. Wonderful deck and garden out back. I highly recommend this place.
Great breakfast burritos, great smoothies, and super friendly staff :)
Great cafe! Delicious food, coffee and treats! Wonderful spot to get together with friends, or to go and do some work in the quiet upstairs. The outdoor patio is wonderful and a great place to unwind with a drink around the fire pits. Highly recommend!
We absolutely love this place. Easy to park, delightful outside dining, coffee to die for and always a warm welcome. (Cathy, I still want to buy 👍) don’t change a thing, you have a fantastic place there
We are in Point Loma bringing our daughter back to school from Colorado and she recommended The Living Room as the place to go to for our coffee fix each day. After 3 days in a row getting coffee, breakfast and a mid day pick-me up, I cannot say enough about this sweet little gem of a coffee shop. Great coffee! Great french toast! And my husband has had their baklava every day and raves about it. Love The Living Room!
So great service and so beautiful. beautiful fire pit outside and good wines. the food was amazing and beautifully presented. excellent restrooms too!!
Cutest place for breakfast. Great atmosphere, delicious food and wonderful service. Such a relaxing outdoor garden area. The whole place very welcoming. Will definitely be my main place to dine when I return!!!!
Food was great and protocol was followed thank you waitresses!
EXCELLENT!! Peaceful, comfortable patio areas. Friendly service with tasty food. Avocado Toast with Scrambled Eggs... Oh so yummy 😋
Love their coffee and iced tea. The perfect place to meet up with a friend or catch up on work since there are a lot of spots to sit. The owner is super friendly and welcoming!
My parents and I stumbled upon this place by accident (detoured from our destination due to the sidewalk being blocked for construction.) We were not disappointed! The Living Room feels like just that: a cozy and homey place to sit back and eat some good food or get some work done. The food was delicious. It is clear that everything is made with tender loving care and the freshest of ingredients! My club on sourdough wasnt the thickest sandwich you will find on the market, but it was a sizable and filling proportion with bread that tasted fresh out of the oven. Our other entrees were just as satisfying and the raspberry chocolate torte was the perfect finish to our meal. It was delectable! By the end of my parents week long stay, they complimented many of the restaurants we visited in town, but counted The Living Room as their favorite!
Great cozy house coffee/Cafe spot. The staff were very pleasant to speak to even if just getting ice for my water, a very comfortable and warm feeling u got when I walked in the door, nothing more to ask for when entering a place never before been to. Will definitely be back and highly recommend coming here.
Personality! Quaint, classic cafe venue.Gotta check this place out.Plenty of small tables inside and some larger tables on the front patio.Coffee selection, sandwiches, and snacks will have your appetite covered. The backyard patio is on a wood deck surrounded by nice greenery.Inside theyve got some great vinyl cases to help you experience a blast from the past.
Love this place! Delicious coffee, great food (I had the French toast), and great service. It’s a really neat place too- being in an old home.
Really cute. Good for a simply comfortable breakfast. Good food and great coffee.
Lovely little historic house, converted to a café. Super friendly service. Great drinks. Food was good (not great), but made up for by the atmosphere and crew. :-)
Very neat location, and the coffee was good, but thats about all I would recommend getting here. The lady who took our order was not pleasant at all. The the one item on the menu that sounded appetizing they no longer had. Since they arent able to fry an egg, I had to go with poached eggs instead, but they could not get that right. The eggs were half hard boiled and half running whites. Over all very disappointing breakfast.
The atmosphere and food were authentic. Staff is friendly.
Have been coming here for years. Great atmosphere. A nice blend of older and younger folka. Food is very good, coffee too, though slightly pricey for my budgetAlways Served quickly and with a smile.Funky Two-story historic building dating to the 1880s. It just might be the oldest building in Point Loma! Two decks, with tables in the rear and the front of the place.Smoking is allowed, but I feel its always nice to ask those with no ashtrays on their tables.Sometimes there is live music but it is not a regular thing. .
I understand there is new ownership. You are really hurting yourself with employing the Asian lady in the mornings. I have tried for months and months to be warm and friendly to her. She has no social skills and gives off a consistent rude vibe. Yesterday, I waited in line while she worked to prepare a breakfast alone. All I wanted was a partial refill of house coffee. It was just too easy (and remember, Im a regular). As the line grew behind me to 5 she finally completed the meal and delivered it, then responded to my request by ringing up a $2 charge for my partial refill request. I have had refills before and others have gladly obliged with no extra charge. Others, $1. Its never consistent. I just looked at her dumbfounded and put my cup down and walked away.
Jennings House is a restaurant with delicious breakfast and lunch offerings in a setting reminiscent of your grandmas cozy living room. The staff is always warm, welcoming and will bring you your food in one of their 4 rooms or outside on the patio if you choose. A Point Loma must if youre here.
The people who work here are absolutely the best! The food is probably the best Ive had for breakfast so far! Huge portions! I highly recommend the breakfast club, and the bagel sandwich. Oh and the coffee is top notch!!!!
Fascinating, converted house with interestingly decorated rooms. Great for a quiet lunch with a few friends or just to sit and read with a cup of coffee. Choose your chair well, though, mine had worn so much that a piece of sharp wire poked me through the upholstery. Food was excellent and reasonably priced.
This is a sweet little local cafe that has nice food and good service. Our only complaint was about a homeless fellow who was sitting outside. My wife and I wanted to buy him a meal from the place, but the owner turned us down, saying she was afraid that it might lead to the man make a habit out of hanging around. I know its a tough call to make as a business owner, but it would have cost her nothing and giving a hungry person food is worth having to ask him/her not to make a habit out of it if they happen come back, in our opinion. Anyway, aside from that our experience at the place after a few visits was good.
Its a very cool atmosphere. Its a old house and the staff are fantastic. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and a blended espresso drink. I really liked the salad but the drink was watery and separated quickly. It tasted good though.
The waitresses were very nice. What I guess to be the owners were a couple. Very nice. The food was good.... although its not out of this world kind of food, so I gave it a 4. The service was great and fast. This night it was half way filled up with people. Id eat there again if someone wanted to eat there or try it.
This is just the greatest place. I absolutely love to eat here. Its Unique and quaint and cozy and comfortable. Their food is delicious their pastries are out of this world. I had a grilled veggie sandwich with some artichoke and whatever condiment sauce they put on it and it was just absolutely one of the best sandwiches Ive ever had ....it was amazing. Always the people that wait on you are very friendly and today it happened to be a wonderful cheerful sweet Asian lady Pia. You need to try this place out... it is the best
Very quaint and enjoyable. Located not from the air port, so its great for someone looking for a wholesome breakfast. The food was very fresh and well cooked made to order. There is only 2 people working here from what I saw and they were both very kind just in a hurry. The wait for food isnt very long even with a small staff. Parking is around back and there is outside seating as well. Highly recommend for a well balanced breakfast or brunch.
Quiet and lots of room both inside and out. Good Coffee and Service. Parking is available in the back. WiFi is available. Dog friendly on the outside porch areas with water bowl. Very Good place to relax...
Really cute location as it seems to just be a renovated house turned cafe which definitely contributes to the living room feel with vintage-looking, rustic and charming furniture inside. Parking wasnt too bad as there was a good amount of free street parking around the corner. The cake we got was a little dry but tasty. We enjoyed our coffee and tea as well. Minus one star because customer service. Lady working was impatient with me when there was a miscommunication about what I ordered. Totally fixable and she didnt even start on my drink yet, but she was noticeably irritated with me over an honest misunderstanding after I corrected her about what I wanted....mind you the menu is HUGE so Im sure it happens on occasjon. Ill assume she was just having a bad day and that it wasnt the norm. Other than that everything was just fine and I would give it a try again and cross my fingers for kinder and more patient service.
Fantastic decor the fact that it is a converted home gives it a cozy feel. Friendly staff and some interesting art round out the vibe.Add a robust menu and you have a delightful winning cafe.
Beautiful, historic location with good coffee, lots of menu options, plenty of comfortable seating, and an amazing staff. A must-go coffee shop (coming from someone who has explored many in the SD area).
Food & cozy living room seating upstairs and roomy outdoor deck downstairs. Lots of tea & coffee options. Delicious deserts from Bread & Cie Bakeru
Cute 2 story house, 2 bathroom. old-fashioned American style food. Bit pricey.
Occupying the Jennings House (San Diego Historical Landmark # 55), Point Lomas Living Room is one of my favorite places to grab some coffee, do some reading, or work on my laptop. Like other Living Room locations, the seating comprised of a wide mix of stuffed chairs, vintage tables, and comfy couches. Its usually quieter than most coffee houses, though at times it can be hard to find a table as its a popular location for studying. Parking is usually not a problem; in addition to the small gravel lot behind the store, there is usually ample street parking in the surrounding blocks. The counter staff Ive encountered have always been friendly and helpful. Id be here all the time if I lived in this neighborhood.
