5 stars for selection of recent comics and Funko pops/action figures. That said, the store is very cramped with piles of comics EVERYWHERE.The plus side is the owner is very knowledgeable and knows where everything is, if he has it, so just ask. I asked about a recent back issue and he went right to a pile of comics and extracted it got me. Same thing with a Pop I was looking for.Good prices too, including a discount on recent back issues from the past few months.
Great shop. Lots of collectibles. Really nice guy behind the counter.
I ordered a copy of a comic book I couldnt find and Yesteryear not only had it, but delivered it, via Amazon, completely wrapped with bubble wrap to protect the comic book from bending. 🤗 thank you!
Great selection of comics and new. Owner is very knowledgeable about comics and everything related.
Its definitely not hyperbole for me to say that Ive never had such a terrible experience in a comic book store before until now. When I was in the store on two different occasions with two different people, we were automatically greeted with a cold welcoming while checking out the store. Throughout our whole time there, the Staff stared us down the whole time as if we were planning on stealing something. When it came to asking questions regarding anything, it was met with quick and aggressive tone of voice for asking simple questions. Both the people I brought into that store, did not feel comfortable or even welcomed for that matter and left it not wanting to come there EVER again as they felt they were being treated poorly without doing anything. I had also wanted to taken pictures regarding any Funkos I was thinking of purchasing for a friend but instead of just notifying me about their policy as I can understand that. They continued to glare at us for a solid two minutes watching us throughout the store and even turned off the radio aggressively to show he was upset...I guess. They eventually told me not to take pictures in an angered tone, I apologized twice as I did feel bad but then was responded to by silence and looked at me as if I was some snot nosed child. With the store cramped out the wazoo with comics, pops and boxes of figures, it was difficult to walk around at all while still being stared down by the person running the store! I dont even expect much regarding customer service when going into a store as I usually keep to myself but I felt unwanted to even step foot in there. I definitely will not be coming again and am writing hoping that no one experiences this type of service as well. I cant believe Ive gotten such a bitter experience twice thinking the first time was just catching someone on the wrong day :(
Theres Always something For me ...#MarvelComicLover
Not easy to walk around the small shop. The attacks are high and we caught them on an inventory day because they were unpacking boxes. The prices for graded comics are slightly over fair market. Not a HUGE selection. But might have some selections.
Best customer service comic shop in all San Diego. Top products, honest, super fair prices, and quality conversation every visit.
If you need it, he has it!Great shop full of everything your little heart could desire.
Absolutely spectacular shop, easily the best place to grab comics in SD. Would 100% recommend to everyone looking to pick up some awesome books and collectables
Went here passing through SD- the gentleman working was very helpful, and recommended some Batman comics. Just from chatting with him, I could tell he listened to customers and was very kind. Will definitely be going back here!
Thanks for helping me find a new hobby. I would like to post my new project but it wont let me. Thanks a bunch. Great store and staff. You can always find a welcoming environment here.
Great comic shop, Mike is super helpful and he stocks a lot of books you wont find at other shops! Due to covid only 3 people are allowed inside, so be prepared to wait outside for a bit.
Great Place to Get New Comics especially independent stuff. In addition the gentleman working there is really helpful.
Store is impossibly cluttered, but if you need it Im sure they have it.
Good deals good customer service
I took my 8 year old son in this shop an he went crazy they had every super hero comic an then some. My boy likes to read but he loves to play with the super hero figures. The employees are super cool an friendly they no there stuff. Check the place out if you like comics.
An Amazing Experience with Yesteryear Comics and Michael !! Very friendly, super knowledgeable and helpful. This is how I remember comic book stores being! Im really thankful that they seem to remember that too. Im really impressed that he gives discounts on hardcovers and comics. I called ahead to ask if they had a book in stock and was more than happy to check. When Michael came back on the phone, he told me he had it, the price and that he would be happy to hold it for me at the counter. (It seems if you call other comic book stores, calling them is an inconvenience and asking for a price is... dare I say, criminal). Anyway, after having such a great customer service on the phone, I decided to take the drive today, instead of waiting until tomorrow. My book was waiting at the counter. Great conversations with other comic book collectors were had. This place is definitely my new local comic book store!! Thanks again !!
An excellent comic shop that has set the bar for me. Mike is super knowledgeable in the comic business and does as much as is possible to take care of his clientele. Pull lists are by Previews Orders, which I find is helpful as a customer as well as for him running the store. He carries cards, figures, Funko, models, D&D guides, posters, shirts, and has a running 30% on trade paperbacks.
Favorite place to go to for my Wednesday comics. They get their own variants for popular DC comics, and the selection of variants is always great. The owner is super friendly and he always works his own store. He also gives great discounts on paperbacks, omnibuses and last months comics.
I was one of if not the first customer to visit this place. Great selections on comic books and collectables. This is my weekly spot.
Start your pull here. Only shop in area that offers pull discounts. The owner is a 1 man army that is efficient, very helpful, knows about comics and friendly to all his customers. Compared to other shops, he always has current back issues. Has widest selection of blank variants that Ive seen in any comic shop in the country. Trades are discounted too. This is indeed the best comic shop in San Diego.
The first time I visited Yesteryear Comics I brought my 4 year old son with me. I wanted to share the experience of comics, reading, super heroes, etc. that I loved with him. I also wanted to see how he would be received by the store owner, as I planned on bringing my son with me regularly to a local shop we felt comfortable and welcomed in. The owner, Mike, was great from the beginning. I asked if he had any comic suggestions that would be appropriate for my young son, to which he showed us a variety of titles including Spider-Man, Batman, and the Avengers. My son loved them all and we walked out with all 3 titles that day. That was two years ago, we are now regulars at Yesteryear Comics. I have a pull list some 20? titles long and can usually be found there at 9am Wednesday mornings for new comic book day. I could go on about how Mike discounts brand new books, brings in artists and writers for signings, has some amazing Yesteryear variant covers, has yearly events for regulars to show his appreciation. But the best part is now my son is 6 years old and has had a great experience growing up in comics. Our Sunday tradition together is to head to Coffee Bean, get a drink, then off to Yesteryear to look around and buy a comic or of Funko Pop! figure together. My son knows Mike by name and Mike knows my sons name, his love for Legos and Star Wars and we have a good time.If you are looking for a local comic book store in San Diego, then coming to Yesteryear is a must.
Cant say enough great things about this place. Its the best comic book store in San Diego! Best prices and a great back issue selection. Ive been to several comic stores in town and no one compares to Mike and Yesteryear. Multiple artist signings and exclusive variants make this place a must-go destination in the comic scene.
Lovely little shop. Tons of variants and prices are very fair. I go out of my way to come here even though theres closer and larger shops around. Ive never seen so many blank variants at any shop. Good selection of back issues as well.
Mike the owner is very knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. I live in the south bay and travel up to his store because he’s got a nice, clean store, has a good selection of product and has great customer service. Plus he sells lots of Funko Pops! I’ve been collecting comics for years and this store by far is one of the best in San Diego.
Great shop! Mike’s the man.
This place is how Comic Book Stores should be. The prices are great (they offer a discount to regular shoppers). They have put together some great events and signings. The owner is quick to learn your name and makes you feel welcome every time you come into the shop. I highly recommend this shop.
Ive been in this store only a couple of times and my impression is that while the store is one of the newer locations in San Diego, the stores owner, Michael is not new to the comic book selling business. He is very nice, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable. He has also passed along smart advice to me in terms of which books are smart investments, which arent, and understanding the difference between a 9.0 and 9.8 NM. I appreciated that immensely, particularly since my wife and I are building a serious collection, and we can only grab so many titles/month. I will undoubtedly be visiting his store again from time to time. Great place to check out if youre already in the area and Southern California Comics (which is on the same street, roughly a mile west of Yesteryear) doesnt have what you are looking for.
Best shop in San Diego, for sure. I refuse to go anywhere else. Great selection of books and discounts on the weekly releases and trades. The owner, Mike, is an awesome dude and knows his stuff. If you havent already, check this place out!
I love the selection and the atmosphere. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable about every collectible in his shop. Look forward to going there every Wednesday. If youre new to comics or just getting back into them, this us the place to go to
I love this store. Its got the neighborhood feel that is comfortable and welcoming. It has what I want - the owner is approachable and knows what I am looking for. Has good parking. What else can I say? Try it, youll come back.
Yesteryear Comics, in my opinion is the best comic book store in San Diego. The owner Michael really knows his stuff and treats his regular customer extremely well. I wouldnt get my comics any were else.
A great, welcoming comic-book store with a knowledgeable and friendly owner. It has an excellent mix of collectibles, new and vintage comics.
Wanted to get into comics but didnt know where to start. Went to Yesteryear. Michael walked me through a ton of different books and issues to see what would interest me and gave me recommendations based on that. Apparently, such helpful staff is a rarity in the local comic shop world. This is definitely a great spot.
Like a store from yesterday. For serious collectors. The owner is a true believer. This is the store you go to when hard to find is the title of your want list. I will definitely visit this store again.
Great store! My is friendly and knowledgeable. He has helped me with several hard to find comics and also helped me get some of my older comics graded. I cant recommend them highly enough.
Three years of weekly visits later, and my opinion of this store hasnt changed. If you want to get into comics, you could do much worse than to visit Yesteryear Comics. My original review from three years ago is below. The proprietor (Mike) is friendly, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. I come here every week and the store always has everything I want. There have even been times that Mike held comics for me when the comics I normally buy were selling out fast, even though I didnt formally make a pull list. This place is great.
Tiny store with great personal service. There is alot in the small space. The owner knows exactly where everything is, just ask him! This is my go to local comic shop.
Outstanding. Small shop, filled to the top with great comics - the owner is amazingly knowledgeable. Fantastic shop, there is a lot of care taken here to provide comic book readers with what they need.
Awesome place to get comics and collectible items. Love this place.
Place is great, the owner is awesome with a great memory of his customers and the items they are looking for. If you are looking for a local comic store thats looking out for you this is the place.
The owner Michael is all about getting you what you need without the snide remarks you may get at other comic stores. He knows his inventory very well. I do all my shopping here now instead of 3 different locations. It may not be the biggest comic store (which is not his goal), but its the best( which is the goal).
The owner Mike knows his stuff and is willing too help anyone ..
Honest down to earth guy.. very precise and fair
I just went in to window shop, it was awesome selection there!
The best comic book store in San Diego! Mike is the nicest store owner Ive known. Always helpful on new comics to read and great selection of back issues!
Very cool place to buy comics and collectibles very good service and cool honor
The store has a great selection of comics and figures, and staff is friendly. Its a cozy spot!
Good place to get your weekly pull list. Lots of figures and gift options. Good staff. A little cramp.
Amazing! We found what we wanted which has been difficult to find in other stores and/or online.
Great shop, always has inventory to an overwhelming degree.
Nothing bad about service. But hot damn so much inventory its just piled on top of other stuff. Need more elbow room.
This is a great place to get your comic fix. Mike is very helpful and knowledgeable.
Even if its a litttle crowed, theres always a great selection and Mike (the owner) gives wonderful customer service
One of the best shops in the city. Owner really knows his business.
Very cramped and cluttered, prices are on the high side.
This is a shop that genuinely has everything in it. An amazing selection of titles, along with other collectables (cards, pops, misc figurines/toys).Pros: great selection, you can find a book on just about any title. You can find more than just your 2 comics. You can tell its a good place for fans because the entire shop is filled with collectables.Cons: great selection, but I wasnt able to find the back issues I was looking for. Obviously, some titles are more popular than others and it appears those are much favored in space (yes, Im just being whiney). Because the shop has a lot of everything, its kinda cramped. Typically I like the intimacy of it, but it was a little more cramped than Id prefer (yes, still being whiney). Parking is very limited and it was difficult for me to get (not the shops fault). Finally, I wasnt given a sleeve with my purchase. And he was prepping them on the counter when I walked in...Overall its definitely a place to check out and I liked the shop itself, but I wasnt very fond of my experience there hence the -1 star review.
Awesome selection, great prices, and friendly, knowledgeable customer service.
Best comic book store in San Diego! Very well organized and the owner is super friendly and helpful.
Has what I was looking for! Many comics! Even got a Harley Quinn action figure here! Love the store.
Wnt to sell some comics.. low low ball.. the guy is fast when looks at your comic know what he wants. Dont go if you want a far price On your old comics Or other...ext...... Sold the comics he did not buy on letgo $200+ an if i had the 4 he took from my collection on telling..so dont even waste you time even shopping there! Either cant even get in the door..👎
I find the staff very friendly and helpful.
Great stuff...helpfull guy behind the regidter..
Stopped by with my son for the first time and staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely will be a return customer.
Greatest comic book store Ive ever been to!!!It was well worth the drive!!! :)The owner is very knowledgable, and very helpful! His comic inventory is unlimited!!!!!
Its an OK place if you know what you are getting, but if you are there to browse or get to know the place, the set up is awful. There are always boxes everywhere and a bunch of toys all stacked up in a way that it makes it difficult to have a human interaction, sometimes I cant even walk in there. It is a cumbersome experience shopping here, not the friendliest shop-keep Ive met, but he sells the stuff I like, so Ill probably go back.
Great Comic store and have an amazing collection of Blank Covers
The owner made my mother-in-law cry because he accused her of breaking a figurine. She insisted she handled it correctly but he offered no customer service and instead responded How are we going to handle this?. We were in the store less than 1 minute and he made it evidently clear he only cares about the bottom line.
Live in Seattle area and travel to San Diego regularly for business - always stop by here. Excellent selection and service
Mike takes care of his customers and always has a large selection of in-demand releases. Love this place.
This is a comic book store for people who read a wide range of comics. People who are looking to check out some TPBs or collected editions after watching Guardians of the Galaxy or Man of Steel at the theaters will probably like SoCal Comics more, but Yesteryear is definitely for the comics enthusiast who reads a wide range of titles on a monthly basis. I found this store after SoCal Comics seemed to never have the Valiant or Image titles I was looking for, so as soon as I saw what great selection they had at Yesteryear, I opted to start a pull list here even though SoCal is actually closer to me.What I really loved about this place was how it was well-organized. Mike definitely packs every shelf to the brim, but everything on display and in the bins is very neatly put away. Also noticed that theres a percentage discount on older single issues, so its a nice incentive to get caught up on titles. Also noticed the whole sports-card-in-the-bag is like a trademark for this shop, I thought it felt like an interesting throwback from the 90s comic shop experience, where a lot of shops sold both sports cards/memorabilia and comics.Overall, if youre a regular reader of non-big-2 single issues, Ive yet to find another shop in SD that has a better and more organized selection.
Always willing to help and great customer service.
Great store and clerk
So many pops! Great selection of comics and collectibles.
Need a larger space so can find things hidden under stacks and stacks.
Great store, outstanding prices, and friendly service
Awesome selection of comics!
Place was a mess. Staff was super unhelpful and rude.
Very good place to get variant comics at cover price rather than get gouge from other places that jacked up their prices for variant covers.
Great store, well kept, and great owner.
Well organized and price well.
BEST IN SD!
Overpriced and the guy there is kinda of a douche like for real
This is a great store
My favorite comic book store!!!!
Amazing selection and good discounts
The Place to Go
AWESOME PLACE !!!
Ideal if you are looking for rare comics and in excellent condition!
I loved the comics good store
