Amazing pasta class! I would highly recommend taking any of the classes offered as the host is not only full of fun with their engaging approach, but also very helpful in providing the hidden tips n tricks to master the craft. The host will walk you through creating many different types of pasta, and will guide you on your particular selection. From there, hell disappear for a bit as he prepares (cooks) your creations, and coats them with their delicious homemade sauce...unbelievably good! At that point, its a simple game of cracking your wine (if you remember to bring a bottle with you) and enjoying the meal with your companion. It is a terrific experience. We will definitely return for the other classes.

Literally stop what youre doing and come eat here. I have been many places in the countries of the world and this is hands down the BEST Italian food Ive ever had (yes, including italy). The small location gives a really wonderful intimate feel and the chef makes recommendations that you definitely should take. My husband and I could not stop smiling while we enjoyed our dinner. If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would.

I was walking by and saw this very charming restaurant. Franchesco, the Owner/Chef, is very cordial and professional.I decided on the Salsiccia(sausages in fettucini/asparagus sauce). Franchesco agreed I made the right choice. The Pasta was amazing made on premises. He also teaches Italian cooking classes there and an eager couple signed up while I was dining.Service is prompt. The atmosphere is perfect-not loud with comfy seating, great ambience and decor.I plan on dining here again asap to try all the great offerings

Molto bene! Homemade pastas, focaccia, meatballs and desserts. Small and cheerful space with lovely owners and staff.Meatball appetizer was delicious - moist, light and super tasty - served with lots of mozzarella and rosemary focaccia. My ravioli dish was yummy- stuffed with mascarpone and prosciutto and dressed with pesto. We were too full for dessert but the next table over wasn’t and the cake looked really nice.No liquor license so you can BYO wine without corkage. They were very happy to accommodate guests.

Amazing! I love this place and WILL be returning. My wife and I did the cooking class they offer and it was so much fun! We made our own pastas and the owner made it tons of fun. He was nice, communicative, and funny. The food was better than I could’ve wished for! The appetizers alone were mouthwateringly good and his tiramisu, a family recipe, was the best I’ve ever had.Cannot recommend this place enough, I will be back!

If you are going for a make your own pasta night with a group it might be okay. However, if you are simply dining in dont plan on eating. We waited 2 hours and 45 minutes for our food and never received it. Appetizers came out after 1 hour and 45 minutes and we were told at that point they were rushing out our entrees. Another hour later at 2 hours and 45 minutes since we sat down we told them we had enough and walked out.

Ordered food from them for pickup, says it’ll be about 20 minutes. Wait 25 minutes and start to walk over, get almost to the building and get a message that it’s been canceled because they’re busy. Took five minutes to walk over, so even though they said it’d be ready in 20, gave an extra 10 as a grace period they just realized they’re too busy to make the food?!

My wife and I went here due to the simple menu and the $0 cork fee.Wow.The food was terrific. We started with the tagliere. The bread was soft and delishious.I ordered the carbonara for dinner. Expect to wait for your main courses to come out, but dont be upset by this. It will be very apparent that it was made from scratch and properly. The last time I ordered a carbonara in a restaurant (in little Italy), it came out in 5 minutes, dripping in cream and tasting offensive. The carbonara at Mattarello was made from scratch, used NO CREAM (a very good and very rare trait) and used high quality guanciale. We had dessert. It was a seasonal special so I cant recall what it was named. But it was delicious as well. We had a cannoli with the seasonal item that was also on par.5/5; Im bringing friends next time to do their pasta making class.

Booked a table via OpenTable for 7 on 30th Dec two weeks in advance. Received an email today telling me the restaurant had cancelled the reservation. Tried calling to find out why - got a generic voicemail box. Very unprofessional. Haven’t tried their food and now won’t bother. First impressions count and it’s a pain to try to book such a large party with little notice.

While in San Diego for work (at the convention center) I took the chance at some off gaslamp venues, such as Mattarello Cooking. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Their food is absolutely amazing. I cannot even think of a fair criticism, other than I wish their portions were larger because after my entree was done, every cell in my body demanded more exquisite Italian food. At my first visit, I thoroughly enjoyed the Bruschetta starter and Cippollotto pasta entree. Simply amazing that words alone cannot describe. Tonight, I brought colleagues and enjoyed amazing Tagliere, Eggplant Parmesan, and Caprese starters with their Carbonara pasta, which was recommended by the owner (and server). Im sad I live on the east coast where Ive never found Italian this good. Enjoy the warm, cozy, friendly atmosphere. I certainly did.

I tried Mattarello via Postmates and what we ordered was so delicious that we decided we had to go try the food hot from the restaurant. It was unbelievable. They hand-make their pasta in house, they use super fresh herbs, the deserts (we tried cannoli and this fantastic strawberry cream cake) were to die for. The pasta carbonara is a must-try. Seriously. You wont regret it. The owners are also an adorable Italian couple who have great recommendations.

We were in San Diego for 2 days for the conclusion of our honeymoon and, exasperated by the American cuisine, we decided to look for an Italian restaurant. As a good Italian, I know that there are too many imitations around, often unsuccessful, of people who pass off their premises as Italian cuisine but who have nothing at all to do with Italian. But here in San Diego we met Francesco (true ITALIANO !!!!) and his restaurant ....Here we felt at home, a welcoming and delicious. GREAT food !!If you want to try a typical culinary experience of our land, I highly recommend Francesco and his Mattarello !!Daje Francesco !!!Alfredo & Evelina & Lollo
