This is the cutest place for a casual, but upscale date night! Open late, and within walking distance of our hotel in the Gaslamp District. The King Crab Penne Pasta is especially good, and do not forget the Bruschetta with fresh mozzarella! You can tell a lot of heart goes into the food, and the staff is super nice. Would definitely come here again.
Fantastic dinner and service.Located on the edge of the Gaslamp area so not quite as busy.Very friendly atmosphere
Amazing restaurant! We had the lobster ravioli and the filet and truly enjoyed both. We had amazing service, and to top off the night the tiramisu was to die for!
We tried Operacaffe for takeout. Very tasty food. The pollo parmigiana is juicy and cheesy. It tasted just like you would get at eating at the restaurant. The tiramisu is made fresh. The portions for 1 three course meal (salad, entree, dessert, and bread) is enough to feed two people. Will definitely come again!
Location: Downtown center.Ambiance: Outdoor good. Indoor too old interiors.Food(Weekday): Too salty and didnt taste fresh. Even the bread was hard!Service: Very Good.
I cant wait to go back again, the Pollo Limon dish I had was so unexpectedly good like wow. They serve hot bread with I think olive oil and balsamic vinegar was great never had that before. The chicken was perfect the suace I thought would be more sweet then savory but surprisingly it was very savory and the rice omg it was cheesy like Ive never had cheese and rice together it was incredible im not sure what kind of cheese but it is like the best I swear. Presentation was great I loved it and I do plan on coming back next time Im in San Diego
Everything we ordered was delicious! Loved the pollo limone!
Food and service outstanding. Shrimp and calamari very good, veal parmigiana excellent. All 3 of the other entrees where equally as good.
Operacaffe has amazing food and service! You can’t go wrong here with their delicious, homemade pastas and extensive wine list! Great spot for date night.
Dinner was fantastic. We had the bruschetta which was so refreshing and perfect. The mushroom ravioli was decadent and creamy. Must try the paloma, they dont skimp at all! Would love to come back here
Excellent service and food. Large portions. Easy location with choice of outside or indoor seating.
The service was very good. Quick and attentive. I had the Veal Parmesan and minestrone soup. The Veal was quite flavorful but I did have a few bites that were chewy. I asked for angel hair pasta instead of the traditional Spaghetti which I think was a good idea. The soup was also very tasty but I think it was on the stove for too long as the vegetables were rather mushy. Overall a very good restaurant and I would go back.
The food was amazing. The waiters are attentive and friendly. I got the lobster stuffed ravioli and it was mouthwatering and would just melt in your mouth. For a first timer in San Diego, this place rose the standards very high.
What a gem! Nothing fancy about the place, but the food is really, really good! Pasta al dente and full of flavor for a super honest price. Highly recommended!
Hands down, one of the best Italian meals I’ve ever had! The appetizers and bruschetta were amazing. The wine was great but my truffle mushroom raviolis were perfection! If you want a great dinner with good service, this is the place to go!
So, so good. The ravioli was maybe the best ravioli I’ve ever had. Service was fantastic and our waitress suggested excellent pairings for the wine and dessert. I know there are a few restaurants with trendier vibes, but the food and friendliness can’t be beat.
Al dente, authentic, fresh, steaming hot pasta- this restaurant is the real deal. Hands down the best Italian food I have EVER had. The staff makes you feel like family and is on top of every need before you can even think of it yourself. Trust me on this one, this restaurant will prove itself in the first bite…
Great italian place in San Diego! I was there in June with my friend. We ordered bruschetta for introduction, then ravioli aragosta for me and gnocchi for my friend. Everything was delicious and fresh! Real italian style. Service was very good. We definitely will come back soon!
Beautiful experience. Real authentic Italian food from Tuscany region... a must try experience....
Wow. Wow. Wow. I cant recommend this place enough! The location is so cozy and just far enough away from the Gaslamp that you dont have to deal with a ton of noise or crowds. The food was PHENOMENAL! My date and I had an awesome appetizer from the special menu that consisted of rice, tomato, and cheese, deep-fried and served with the most incredible garlic tomato sauce. For dinner, we had the Pollo Limon & Pollo Alla Pizzaiola, and every single thing was delicious! I am so excited for the leftovers tomorrow!Service was amazing, food was out of this world, 10/10 recommend.
Tried this out last night and had a wonderful evening. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the waiters are super attentive (they seemed short staffed, but never missed a beat), and the food was great and prices appropriate for what we received and being downtown. We got a pizza (large enough to share), a plate of ravioli, small basket of bread, and a glass of wine for $48. Tough to beat.
The service was ok. The ambiance needs some attention, and the food portion well short of its price. We had visited 4 years ago. A little disappointed. We wont be back sad to say.
Amazing food!! My friends and I went out for a nice dinner, having bought a Groupon in advance It was at the restaurant that we realized we had bought it for the wrong days. My friend asked the manager and he said he would continue to honor it. The service throughout the meal was excellent and they weren’t badgering. They were gracious and understanding of another friends food allergies. The food was so filling and the leftovers disappeared the next day.
The ravioli here was absolutely delicious… maybe the best I’ve ever had. Great spot.
This was the BEST spaghetti I have ever had! We were seated immediately and had to wait almost an hour to get our food, but it was definitely worth the wait! The bruschetta was very good as well, even both of my kids liked it and they’ve never had bruschetta before. If we are ever back in the area, we will definitely come back here.
Very flavorful, fresh, and great service. Our go to Italian restaurant in the Gaslamp.
Great food and very attentive staff. We got the tortelli di granchio and it was absolutely delicious. The spaghetti pomodoro was very flavorful and a great choice. Love the atmosphere too, very inviting and cozy
Wanted to experience some excellent Italian cuisine and chose Operacaffe as they were able to accommodate our party of 6 on a Saturday evening.Delicious cuisine and prompt service. Bread was warm, I ordered the fettuccine alfredo with shrimp and chicken, and was delicious. Noodles cooked al dente, shrimp fresh and not over cooked. Would definitely come back in the future.
Good was delicious! Service was not the best, but it seemed as they were short staffed.
We enjoyed the good food, good service (food was slow to arrive but worth the wait), and good drinks.
Great food and service! The ravioli stuffed with spinach with porchini mushrooms in the vodka sauce was so tasty. Plenty of seats indoors and out, no line when we went on a Saturday evening. Definitely would come back.
If you come to San Diego looking for excellent Italian food, I strongly urge you to give this place a try.
This is probably my favorite Italian restaurant of all time.Very family friendly, amazing food, in a perfect spot downtown, amazing staff/owners/GM, and great service. My wife gets gnocchi and I love the fettuccine alfredo, but everyone we have told to eat here tells is they were so happy with what they ordered. The chefs/cooks are amazing. My wife and I personally like the male with tattoos (I can not remember his name for the life of me) and the mother that owns the place as the chefs. When either of them are there I know the food is going to be amazing. I am sure everyone is great, but those 2 seems to always been there when we are and never let us down.Peter the GM is outstanding, and will always take care of his good customers. If your looking for a family Italian restaurant with a open and friendly atmosphere, and a great outdoor seating area for social distancing, this is your place.
Food was delicious, service was attentive. Portions were perfect for the value. Had the special, Braised beef penne and Fettuccine alfredo, both were very yummy. Had the beef appetizer, berry salads, and desserts. Everything was great, definitely recommended.
JC was amazing !! From the customer service to the recommendations of food and wine! It was a great anniversary dinner ! Will be returning again !
Excellent service and charming atmosphere. Amazing variety of Tuscan Italian cuisine. Highly recommend .
Penne Alla Kika was delicious, great selection of actual italian beers
The pasta are excellent, Im usually very disappointed when I take pasta outside but this time it was worth it !
Everyone that knows me !!!! Knows I have food credibility in San Diego well hands down after 20 years this is the best Italian in San Diego Chef Branchi Patrizia is the queen of the kitchen in Americans finest city and so blessed to have her food here in the Heart of the Gaslamp . Visit Operacaffe on 4th Ave .
Good food friendly service
Delicious Italian fare in the heart of downtown San Diego. Everything from the appetizer to the main course to the drinks and dessert was delicious. The waiter was very pleasant and attentive and the atmosphere was absolutely charming. Overall, it was a lovely dining experience and I can’t wait to go back.
Great service and amazing food! Will definitely be back when visiting San Diego!
Fantastic food & even better service!
The BEST pasta I’ve ever had! The bruschetta was delicious - definitely worth it to add the prosciutto and mozzarella. Would be here at least once a week if I lived here!JC - thank you for the wonderful service!
Italian food, super yummy. I often meet people here to talk. The service was sociable and attentive. Bring your hunger - portions are filling. Menu is similar to a restaurant in El Paso I liked.
By far one of my favorite restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego! The bruschetta is a must have appetizer! Ive also had the Patrizia salad - its so refreshing with the fresh mozzarella, hearts of palm, and avocado. Truth be told, Im not a huge pasta fan but their spagetti sauce is absolutely delicious and what makes the entire dish! It has a little bit of kick to it! Cant wait to go back and try more entree options soon! Some restaurants in the Gaslamp are just hurrying to get people in and out, but Peter and Kika at Operacaffe were very kind and checked in on our party to make sure that we were well taken care of. I always appreciate that about a good, local restaurant.*Note: This is a wonderful spot to go after a show at the Balboa Theater across the street! They stay open late on show nights. Also great for group dining if you have a large party.
We enjoyed the excellent service, as well as the delicious food!
Italian food and the feeling at this place is great. Very appetizing. The service here is great. The bill was fair for the quality of food.
; Visiting from Minnesota here! 🙋🏻♀️If youre looking for fresh, authentic, flavorful Italian dishes... here it is! I have to say, this is the best bruschetta Ive had. The toasts are perfectly crisply soft. Crispy enough to hold up, but melts in your mouth as you bite into the toast without worrying if the toast is going to break your teeth. I had the shrimp Alfredo and it was the perfect portion and perfectly seasoned. Although, my boyfriend had the penne bolognese and it was a bit too salty for my taste and I normally eat much saltier than him. Everything tasted like it was made fresh from scratch.I highly recommend making reservations if you can. I made the mistake thinking you could walk in and wait for an open table. The restaurant is small and were sold out all night from what we were told, BUT there is open seating on the patio. Most I seen it could hold is for a party of 4. We went in mid-November so it was a bit chilly at night, luckily the patio is warmed, so thats a plus.Parking is to be expected to waste time trying to get lucky to get street parking. We ended up parking in the ramp walking distance by the restaurant. The staff were extremely friendly and extremely quick to check in on us, refill water cups and overall provided excellent customer service. They didnt make us feel any less important than those who made reservations in advance.I would definitely come back here if I wanna ne guaranteed a great meal. I dont think the dishes are overpriced, but more well priced. Ive had pasta elsewhere for the same price Operacaffe and some places dont make their food as good/fresh as this place does.
Food is really good, reasonably priced. Service is nice. Outdoor seating is great.
A HIDDEN GEM in Downtown San Diego! Owned by Chef Patrizia. We loved conversating with her and we felt so at home! Already a 5 stars in my book!Heres my food recommendations:- Fried Burrata- PEPPERONI SALSICCIA Pizza - they do not skimp on the meats!- Housemade Pappardelle pasta with lamb ragu and artichoke - this was one of my favorites! the lamb was not gamy at all! MUST ORDER!!- Rice with saffron sauce with shrimp and new zealand mussels - OMG!- Meringue sphere with raspberry sauce - crack open and pour more raspberry sauce on top! A++++++++All of the food was so delicious. The service was quick and our entrees were piping hot. We sat by the window and was able to see the Chef in action! Prices are reasonable. Definitely a place I would recommend to family/coworkers/friends to, so they can try authentic italian food. Definitely coming back!
1st time here. Food was delicious. Our waitress was amazing. We had a table on the patio. Very fun evening. In the Gas Lamp area of downtown San Diego. Highly recommend.
Best authentic Italian food in downtown San Diego!!!Simply delicious with great atmosphere!!!
The best pasta dish I have ever had! The truffle ravioli with cream sauce was heavenly. Service was amazing and a great location. We WILL be back!
My family and I will drive down from north county just to come eat here. The food and service is always excellent. They also validate parking for the garage across the street which is nice.
Chef Patrizia and owner Kika is so kind and caring and the cuisine is so divine and luscious they been there for 12 years and it is soooo wonderful pls check them out you will not disappoint I love the brunch thats Fri to Sun 9-2 everything is so divine
Great value. Cozy. The most interesting dishes have alcohol based sauces and we had to pass on those. We will go back.
The food was amazing! Real Italian food, same prices as olive garden. The bread was fresh, they make their noodles fresh, customer service was amazing!
This was a spur of the moment find downtown. As locals we all need to have a date night everyday of the week here. The atmosphere, (Elton John) in the background down to the hostess being inviting and attentive. This is a new favorite for the local rotation and it should be yours too. Just my two cents advice. The breadsticks are sooo addictive. There is NO way you can eat one. Now to the food food...my Alfredo pasta was heavenly and quick. So thrown on some pants and head on down to this beautiful place.
Wow, the bread and food was so good!! If you like true Italian food this place is for you!
Very good choice for Italian food in the gas lamp area..very extensive menu with moderate beer choices. Recommended and fairly priced.
Fantastic all around. Superior staff, drinks, food. And nice music too. They made a custom martini I thought I liked but couldnt find anywhere. Too bad the world was right and I was wrong... no one should ever want one. Trust me. But the bartender made it exactly as I ordered without hesitation. Good man. And he was gracious when I told him it didnt taste like I thought it would. But it was all on me.FYI its right across the street from the Balboa Theater for before or after the concert.
The Food was Delicious....the service was great....very friendly. I will definitely be coming back on my next visit.
Everyone is so friendly and nice! The services are great, to food is awesome! I ll be back for sure!
Outstanding food and service. Best Italian restaurant in San Diego. Family owned, you can taste the love in the food.Owners and staff are wonderful. Love, love, love this restaurant.
Always excellent food and service. I highly recommend the gnocchi with gorgonzola and blueberries - definitely Food of the Moaning!
Good Italian food! Friendly staff who really try their best to make you feel at home. Its not the best Italian food you will have eaten in your life, but its certainly great value for money and good food in a city that has a lot of variety of food.
Daily lunch specials at reasonable prices. The salad was fresh and well-chilled with just the right amount of a nice house dressing. The bowtie pasta with chicken was tasty and very fresh. Garlic bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping rounded out a nice lunch.
This place was INCREDIBLE. Homeade pasta, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Rich yet light. Absolutely delightful. Not to mention reasonably priced. I dont think Ive ever had such a fantastic meal for such a great price.
