The absolute best poke bowl I’ve ever had, and the best in the Bay Area - no lie. It’s worth the hype, and it’s not that expensive. For my wife and I, it was $28 for two 1/2 and 1/2 bowls and one side of cucumbers and one side of seaweed salad.
Love heading to this place for a quick bowl of poke lunch, but the hours are quite limited. 9-3 Tues-Sat, I think, and theres always a line at lunch, but the wait is usually only about 5 min. No need to go in; theres theres walk up window for your convenience.
Food is great here but I always get confused when they ask me for what sides I want. I tend to just say yes when they ask me for my choice of side. I might be dumb but choosing not to eat here is dumber
Absolutely delicious food!! Reminds me of the traditional Hawaiian style poke. One bite and I was sent back to the islands!!!
Theyre poke is still one of the most traditional made and best in town.
Due to Covid you can only shop from the window. If you know what you want then no problem. If you dont know what you want or need, you may have difficulty. But I was specifically looking for Pork Lau Lau and Poi. I had been there a day prior and they advised it would be in on Thu, but if I wanted to call in the morning they could take my name & number and put my order aside. So I called the next day & spoke with Javier. He graciously took my order and said to call at 11 to confirm it arrived which I did, but the delivery wasnt there yet. He said try back in another hour or so. But let me know if it wasnt there by 1:30 or so, it may not be available until the following day. I was hopeful as this food was going to be for my Dads birthday dinner. Needless to say, Javier called me at 1:15 and I was happy to hear it arrived. The extra customer service was very much appreciated! Mahalo nui loa Javier & Santo Market! My Ohana & I have been shopping here since the early 80s & no intention on stopping!
The poke is so good! I have poke almost every Saturday morning (dont judge me, Poke is a perfectly normal breakfast). But the hidden gem of this place is THE MOCHI - they have the best Strawberry mochi in the bay. I kinda dont want to share this because the supply is limited and they only have it on Saturdays. People line up for that mochi. Each mochi has a full Strawberry in the center.
Pretty good Japanese food market. Decent collection of Asian food items. And an moderate amount of fresh vegetables. Previously I used to go to the Mitsuwa marketplace near Santana Row for Asian food (packaged sushi, seaweed sheet / salads, Salmon, rice crackers), but the parking situation was horrible there. Now that I moved close to this place, it was a pleasant surprise to find a store where I can get most of the Asian food. They have a small butcher counter, but unfortunately they dont have Salmon every time I asked. In the deli counter they had ready-made spicy Tune Poke (apparently the authentic Hawaiian tuna poke with recipe), which was pretty good. Give it a try if you love raw fish. There were about two tables which can seat 5/6 people, there were few folks having lunch there. They have several varieties of rice crackers and buckwheat noodles, which I did not find elsewhere. The place is little hard to notice from the main road (Taylor Street), I never noticed it before though I took this route everyday for about 5/6 months.
Some of the best poke Ive had in my life
Want some Spicy Tuna that is simply out of this world? Well, this is where you’ll get it, along with all sorts of other treats! It’s a bit of a drive for me, but so worth my time. Their food is first rate!!
Great poke. Not much selection but its very good. The loco moco was decent but not my favorite. The price is good for it tho. Overall Id come back for the poke.
I always come for the poke and it never disappoints. They have incredible food and always the best customer service. This business deserves all the support and the hype is real. Sometimes its good to call ahead to make sure they havent run out!
They arguably serve the best poké in the whole Bay Area!
Very busy. This place is busy because their food is amazing. I love their poki and syuaki beef wrapped asparagus but there is so much more. It is worth the wait
Shoyu poke here is great !! best and most comparable thing Ive had outside of Oahu in terms of tuna poke :)
Get youre Hawaiian food here also Japanese or maybe the other way around
Super nice employees, food is awesome! Guava cake is A1! Thanks guys!
Probably the best spicy poke Ive had outside of hawaii.
The poke bowls are amazing! They do all kinds of sandwiches to & the staff was very friendly.
Great store with friendly workers. Delicious poke too and the variety of items they offer is great. Highly recommend taking a trip here and checking them out
Freshest Poke in the Bay Area, you have my regards
Awesome food and service
Great for any Japanese groceries.... Family owned... Support them! They have great bento lunch there... Poke ..... Teriyaki.... Etc..... Its all good.
The poke here is divine. I simply cannot heap enough praise upon the poke. They also have pickled scallions for a rather good price as a bonus!
Love Santo market! Amazing poke, I come here once a week as tradition because its the best poke around!! My bf and I recently went to Japan and I love that Santo is so close to home and sells a lot of our favorite foods, snacks, and drinks that we miss from our time in Japan.
Tried twice the poke bowl, but the taste was mediocre. Not sure why some people give such high score. Totally disappointed.
Love the poke here. The strawberry mochi are pretty good too.
Their poke is delicious & fresh.A great little market to get all of your Japanese & Hawaiian ingredient needs. And everyone is super friendly & helpful.
Santo is a great local Japanese grocery market! I come here specifically for their spicy tuna poke at their deli sold for $10 served with rice. Its so good and absolutely fresh! Some days they even sell out, but to make sure you get your serving you can call ahead to let them know to reserve you some.Aside from the times I come for their poke, Ive also hit this market for Soju and Japanese snacks for nights in on the weekends.Although I live in Japan town, I havent been able to catch their weekday hours too often since they close at 6PM, and Im usually battling traffic around then. Taylor street is also very congested around 5PM rush hour, so Id plan ahead for that if youre coming after work on a weekday. My best luck has been stopping by on weekends (Sat 9AM-6PM & Sun 10AM-2PM).Their staff is super friendly as well!
Another San Jose institution. A must visit for food and Japanese products. One of the best Poke can be bought here. Can sit and eat inside. Good coffee. I highly recommend this place.
Cute little market in Japan town. Food is fresh and employees are helpful. Has the essentials for a grocery run
Local Japan Town favorite place to shop and get poke and sashimi.Asian foods & snacks. 👍🥳 Awesome. 73 years in business
Best Poke in town!
I Love their Poke! This is a cute little mom and pop Japanese grocery store.
What can I say about this still in existence little market in Japan town San Jose. I grew up very near its location and still shop here when I want to find authentic items for my Asian cooking. I now live in Hollister but when Im in San Jose I make my shopping stop here. I recommend a visit because it hasnt changed much even though San Jose has. Great place for Japanese food items.
After many recommendation and positive reviews, I finally got to try their poke. I have to say, poke was simple and delicious as advertised! Will definitely come back!
Small store but their poke is really good
This store is nice, clean and quaint!! The items are very well displayed throughout the store and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.
Even in this shelter in place, they still have lots of ramen and rice, even spam! Support your local small businesses!
This is a gem of San Jose. They have legit Hawaiian poke and it is fantastic. They also make amazing mochi, get there early though it sells out fast. If you go for poke, you probably want to go before theyre getting ready to close, theyve sold out on me a handful of times. If you live in or near Japan Town, get up and go here, now. Unless its past 6, theyre probably closed.
Poke here is really good, although the fish to rice ratio is a little low. Tastes just like poke straight from Hawaii
$10 gets you poke quality much better than anywhere else in the south bay.
Santo Market is a great place to get the Hawaiian foods I miss so much. It is the only place I can find long rice noodles, Aloha Shoyu, and fresh poi. While there, I can pick up a few Japanese foods that I can find elsewhere but this is convenient. Glad Santo Market is here.
A Japanese market filled with flavlrs and products of Japan. New finds are always a pleasant and delicious surprise. They also sell meals.
This place takes me back to Hawaii with all the drinks n snacks. The poke is good here too.
Spicy poke... enough said.
Always get the poke bowl and spam masubi. Fresh and flavorful. Spicy mayo sauce is good and comes with sticky rice. Nothing spectacular but very good. Santo market is a staple in our work lunch rotation.
Best Hawaiian Style Poke in San Jose!!! I discovered this place by chance this morning. Recommend the Spicy Tuna Poke.
Small little market with their own small lot near Japantown. They have the basics + a meat Dept. Be sure to try their poke. It might be a bit small and lacking in options, but its pretty good.
I come here for the poke, not for the groceries. This review is for the poke. As for the poke, you have a choice between spicy tuna, regular tuna, or tako (octopus). Pretty simple, you pick between one or a mix of the three options and they pair it with rice. Probs are not stingy nor generous, its just enough. The poke is delicious, but its no frills unlike many of the poke places popping up in the South Bay. If youre a purist for poke, come here and give it a try. I find it refreshing how original and true Santo stays to poke.
Awesome for had the saimin and teri burger. Got some gulags jelly and creamy sesame dressing to the house. Will definitely be returning.
Santos Market: Nice People, Great Coffee,Food is Good.
Love going to this place every time. They have all of the hard Japanese ingredients that are hard to find. Plus the poke is awsome
Four stars in Japan Town/ San Jose, not because its fancy or even a market. Its a hidden gem because they serve up some very good Japanese American food, my favorite is the teriyaki string beans with steamed rice and nappo, or you might want to try a Sumo Burger if you think you can handle it. They have some benches for dining, or you can take out. They also have a good variety of various Japanese groceries and meat. Its not about the ambiance, its about the food.
Santos market is a hidden, deeply endangered, and largely overlooked gem. A corner store that seems to harken back to the 1930s, this tiny spot is my go-to for Japanese groceries and Hawaiian items, especially their poke. Now, poke is suddenly very fashionable, with poke bars springing up everywhere. But I cannot recommend strongly enough that you go to Santos and have the poke bowl (get the furikake on top) as the baseline for what poke should be. You may find better (probably not, at least in N. Cal), but at least youll know what proper poke should be.Get a Hawaiian drink, and certainly get the strawberry mochi if youre lucky enough to find it in stock, and, if you close your eyes and let your mind drift, you might just find yourself in Island time, at least for a few precious minutes.
Every day they make a bbq chicken which is pretty good. They also have a mochi there on some days.
Knew about their breakfast but not sure how I missed the poke! Ordered lunch and had the 1/2 shoyu 1/2 spicy tuna. It was so good! Fresh fish, great flavor, warm rice. Also had spam musubi, ocean salad, and kimchee. The spam musubi was great, the ocean salad was a little bland but good, and the kimchee was SO tasty. This has been added to our lunch rotation!
Its small but interesting and cool. BUT they have delish pokey. Ive been many times! 😊
Always good! The Owner and staff are Very professional and personal. The food is very Good!
As always... my family has been coming here since before i was born and Ive been coming here all my 37 years of life... always 5 stars.
I stopped by today. The poke and service is very good. Nice little store with lots of good stuff. Will go back again !
Interesting little market. The loco Moco was made on the spot from what it looked like, it was good. But the rest of the store seems to be very outdated.
I love their fresh food. The cucumber salad and poki are the best.
Super fresh and delicious poke. Limited grocery and produce selection. The bao in the case by the cash register is the best Ive ever had.
Santo is a special place. Anyone whos been to the Hawaiian Islands, especially off the beaten (touristy) path will know markets like these where Japanese manju are found right beside American ice cream, where everyones friendly and where the Poké at the counter is always fresh. If youre looking to take to go, Id put in the effort to get a plate as the rice that goes with the best Poké shouldnt be missed, and if its your first time make sure to go for a half-and-half so you can try them both. The market itself hides gems like delicious rice crackers, passion fruit syrup for pancakes and giant bottles of iced tea for a hot afternoon, so dont feel like you just need to sit there twiddling your thumbs or playing on your phone whole you wait.Oh, and theyll give you a ticket with your order when its up. Take that up front and pay at the register along with your other goodies!
Great local market. They have some Hawaiian themed foods here. Great place to get poke. You can get the food to go or eat inside.
Tip: Poke bowls are definitely the top food trend for 2016, but sometimes its nice to go back to the original. Santo Market does poke old-school in the tradition youd find at the best places in the Hawaiian island. No frills, minimal additions but fresh fish, great flavors, and friendly service. The Poke Bowl costs $9.99 and you can sample both the excellent Shoyu or Spicy poke, but for an even better deal, order it by the pound and make your own top notch poke bowl at home. They also make fresh strawberry mochi here twice a week that sells out (Tuesdays and Sundays I believe)
Best mainland poke spot bar none.
Best in town, bare none! Fresh and delicious
They have the best snacks, food items, poke & bento plates ever!!
About time I found authentic tasting Hawaiian poke. I just moved from there and have been feeling home sick and have missed the food dearly! So glad I found this place!
I mainly come for the Poke, its sooooo good. Its hard finding places that know how to make it, and Santo Market Inc has it down. I always order for 2, but its all for me. If youve never tried it, youre missing out. Get the 1/2&1/2 Poke Bowl (Soju&Spicy) and something to drink.
Get the things from the island.Back home flavor.
Was told by my son how delicious their poki bowel, so I picked up 2 to go. It was delicious, but ordered mine to with tofu, instead of rice. Got rice. Disappointed, but rice was ok. Cute Japanese grocery store, with touch of Hawaii.
The poke here is legit.Alot of kamaaina from the islands visit here and say it reminds them of home.If it works for them, it works for me.Also the grocery has alot of other good stuff, bbq teriyaki, sushi, and all kinds of rice, tonkatsu sauce, and things you cant get at Safeway or Albertsons.
I have then going there for 15-20 years its a Down to Earth Neighborhood Market specializing in Japanese specialty items Santos Market is Japantown plain and simple
Very friendly staff and amazing poke bowl, probably one of the best Ive ever had.
Great for Japanese foods.Great butcher
One of the best place to get poke & strawberry mochis in town. Love Santo Market!
Delicious poke! Will definitely visit again!
Local groceries. My go to for local kine grindz. Best and most like home Hawaiian poke in the bay.
Went to buy fish and it was good.. they dont have much options but.
Been going here since I was little, love the poke over steamed rice for lunch!👍
The staff is amazingly helpfull.
One of the last family owned Japanese Grocery Store in the Bay Area. They also serve and sale the Best Spicy Pokie in Town.
Poke bowls are so tasty! Love furikake rice :)
Best Poke in town. You can order by the pound here! Love this market!
Items are a little bit more expensive, but have different variety of Japanese products. Plus they have an great Poki delicatessen. A must go when you need an Asian item.
Great for some lunchtime poke.
Products are not updated and seafood is not fresh. Funky odor once you get in
Love their poke!!
If you love the kind of poke that you get from Hawaii, this is definitely the place to get your poke!
Small albeit high quality story in J-town. They have some Hawaiian delicacies that can be difficult to find.
Small old school grocery store. I go for the Poki best in town
Good spot.for a quick Japanese treat!
Great Service. Get your fresh manapua here ( aka pork bun ) steamed or baked.
