Sadly I have to agree with the low-star reviews. The quality of the coffee has truly gone downhill and I am honestly very disappointed with my drink.I ordered an iced dark coconut mocha with almond milk this afternoon and first sip I knew it was going straight to the trash can. It tasted like bitter powdery chocolate chalk with a light coconut aftertaste. I did not taste any almond milk at all.The barista who made my drink didnt seem to know what she was doing. I noticed her speaking to her coworker a few times. When I finally got my drink, it literally looked like an iced shaken chocolate milkshake. Could she have made the drink wrong? Possibly.I grew up in the area but have since moved to SoCal. I am visiting family this weekend and had been looking forward to ordering this drink for THE LONGEST time... only to be hugely let down. Maybe I should have spoken up but I am not that kind of person to make a whole scene or fuss about my drink. Except here on Google obviously haha.I miss the Chromatic Coffee days; it is just not the same. I know they are two different companies but I cannot help but compare the drink to what I remember it tasting like. Sad to say I dont think I will ever be returning again--I love lattes and coffee but I am afraid to try it here in case I dont like it.Welp, there goes $6.50 straight to the trash can. I regret coming here but at least I know for the future.
The cafe is cute and has plenty of outdoor seating, so it was a great place to sit and relax. I tried their vanilla latte and avocado melt. The vanilla latte was really good, but very sweet, so if you don’t like sweet coffee like I do then you won’t enjoy it. I was disappointed by the avocado melt, however. It is toasted with a thin sliced white sandwich bread, I personally would have preferred a thicker wheat bread. I didn’t find the cheese or the avocado spread to be very flavorful and the texture was a bit odd, more like pesto than I expected. I would’ve preferred fresh avocado, honestly. All in all, it was okay but I’m not sure I’d return for their food!
What a stupid experience! I LOVE coffee, I also happen to know how I like to drink coffee (as do most other coffee drinkers)!! I ordered a flat white w/ vanilla, apparantly thats against the law here. No wonder so many people find it hard to support our local coffee shops. GO TO VERVE!!!! ITS 1000× BETYER
I read an article that said this was a best coffee spot in the Bay. So we came by and tried the Vanilla Latte, Dark Coconut Mocha, chocolate croissant and the Ham & Cheese sandwich.I’m a little hesitant to say this is the best coffee shop but it’s definitely a really good coffee. The latte and Mocha were absolutely delicious, the chocolate croissant was good but typical nothing special and the ham & cheese sandwich was good but nothing to write home about.Overall, go for the coffee and only get the bites to eat if you’re really hungry.
Will not come again. Online ordered 9:55 and was supposed to pick up my coffee at 10:10 AM, they started making my coffee once I got there after having had to wait in line, picked up my coffee at 10:40 AM. Thought they would start making my order first since they were already late, but they made everyone else’s ahead. What’s the point of online ordering then? Purposely ordered from this place because the pick up time was much earlier than Philz. If I knew I would’ve just ordered better coffee at Philz! Pour over tasted horrible. Was very annoyed because I picked up breakfast prior and had it waiting in the car all soggy. If I knew it’d take an Additional half an hour to wait I would’ve simply canceled it. Workers didn’t say anything, no apology nothing.
Wonderful coffee shop that I’ve been coming since it’s Barefoot days. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly & helpful. Place is getting a little long in the tooth (tables & chairs getting older), but drinks and space still nice. Still one of my top go-to spots. Here’s my customized guilty pleasure: a flat white w/ a cubano shot & oatmilk. Lightly sweet & fluffy.
I’m not sure if this place got rated high because of the food.. or because it’s a cute coffee shop.. I wasn’t quite convinced it was because of the coffee. Going to have to come back and try it again. My cappuccino was pretty good but I wasn’t blown away. The coffee on tap was cold and quite expensive for premade coffee. The inside is cute and I love that they sell a great selection of craft beer.
I walked in and there was no line. The guy behind the counter was busy making an order but he didnt even look at me or acknowledge me. Its not like his back was turned either. He was facing me and pretty much had to intentionally ignore me to not notice me standing there. He called into the microphone for a lady to pick up her order who was waiting outside and he began working on another order. I normally wouldnt mind waiting but he didnt even say a word to me like I will be right with you. Maybe I didnt look like the typical customer that comes here (Asian, Indian, White). I decided to go to Starbucks. At least they greet every customer that walks in the door. Customer service is still important in 2021!
Very good coffee in an enjoyable, well-lit space. Pastry from Manresa, as well as a selection of sandwiches and quiche. The espresso options include a blend and a single-origin; two pour-over options as well as a few batch-brew varieties are available each day.The cafe has two large interior seating areas as well as a few tables outside, facing the parking lot.
Great dessert coffees (like lavender latte and dark chocolate coconut), good menu variety overall, high quality coffee, nice seating area, excellent staff.
Extremely crowded with a long line on a Saturday afternoon. Service was not that slow though. Theres a nice buzzing environment and some table space to work at (if you can find an empty seat). I ordered the Cafe Brulee, which is a regular latte with powdered sugar on top which then gets torched. Mediocre experience. The seasonal Love Affair drink was really nice though!
The cappuccino was pretty good. The wifi was awful. If I cant get my work done, I cant go back, unfortunatly, just for coffee. Bummer.
At the time of writing, they are transitioning from Chromatic to Paper Moon. Still a great coffee shop with some of the best tasting coffee in the area. Baristas are nice and well versed in coffee.Good amount of seating options. Wall countertops with and without seats, table seating, and a kids area in the corner. One restroom but standard for this size of business.I hope Paper Moon can carve out it’s own unique self amongst the ever growing coffee shop space.
Coffee tasted watery. Its a cool looking shop in a nice area, but the coffee isnt great. What a bummer
Great coffee (per my wife, Im not the coffee person in the fam 😂)
Super delicious and first time trying this place out today. They are very friendly and helpful with answering questions. Definitely will be coming back again!
This place used to be good, now it’s neon lights, and bad cappuccinos. Looking for a great cup of coffee? Go to Chromatic in downtown San Jose. You won’t be disappointed.
I ordered a Vanilla Latte and was the thickest, sweetest warm drink ever. I think they forgot to add the coffee. My fault for venturing out and not going with what I know. I definitely won’t be back.
Mocha way too sweet, not good enough for its price; bakeries too
Local Coffee & Art Silicon Valley Destination Spot: Do it for the Unicorn Blend & Keynote BlendA collaboration of “boujie” artisan coffee, art, and local charm. The charm keeps it humble and quirky (post tech takeover) with the earthy and artsy vibes of old school Silicon Valley that the locals and transplants love. The coffee is everything artisan and all you would expect for the price (well worth the few dollars more than the average peets or Starbucks). The keynote blend is my favorite as it has notes of honey and caramel and toffee - a hint of sweet but not too sweet. The art on the coffee bean bags make them beautiful gifts for the coffee lovers in your life. The coffee label also has a pop-up cafe in SFO airport and a pop-up cafe at ebay HQ.On weekends they host a brunch and a beer and meat/cheese board pairing. They also have a local art and music exhibit for their employees (open to the public) once a month.Food selection is decent for the gluten free or the vegetarian but if you have allergies I would bring food from home. There are some neighboring restaurants and small cafes near by and a Safeway Grocery across the street for those who need food allergy specific food. Weekdays can be crowded but there always seems to be just enough room in this hotspot- a lovely array of techies, remote workers, travelers, locals, freelancers, college grad students, and graphic artists.Designer Blends (Coffee) meets community. Everything quirky Silicon Valley would love, appreciate, treasure, and respect.
Paper Moon is a favorite of mine, and I have found myself going there more and more often! They still take cash, which is a huge plus for me, and they are keeping everyone safe by only allowing one person inside at a time! The coffee itself is really excellent, smooth and well balanced. I also get the iced chai frequently which has a really distinct flavor that keeps me coming back. I definitely recommend this shop!!
Coffee is fantastic. Everything is always consistent in regards to flavor. Love that they offer oatmilk. Customer service is hit and miss. But I dont really come for the service I come for the coffee.
I came in for an espresso. Its been prepared while I was finishing paying and was ready exactly when I finished.Less than 1 minute in and coffee tasted really good! I would definitely go there again if Im in the area
Excellent coffee, really nice roasts and a great space. 3 stars because coffee prices are very high — $3.34 for an espresso, and $4.34 for an Americano. An extra buck just to add water? With tax I was in for nearly $5 for espresso with hot water— that’s really high, nearly double the going rate. But again, it’s good coffee.
This is place by far one of my favorite coffee shops. They are extremely consistent, have a nice rewards program and have a huge variety of food and drink options. Their seasonal drink are always on point. They also offer almond milk or oat milk at no extra cost, which is awesome for those who prefer or cant have dairy. Beer is available and they have 20% off during happy hour!
Amazing Espresso ! Always get my beans from them as well and love that you get a coffee for every bag of beans.
I gotta give them more than five stars if I could because the staves were super amazing and friendly. I went to this place to kill the time because I was bored. I ordered a 3-shot of espresso and cinnamon roll, which I love the most. I love how calm the ambiance of this place. I cant wait to visit this coffee shop again.
The coffee and service was excellent. No complaints there. Ambiance was a 1 out of 5. Also surprisingly pricey!Good amount of space and outlets, but really there was really explicit music on and it was actually incredibly distracting. I’m not a prude, but, man, the f-word every other line and inappropriate material. And it was played quite loudly - and I like loud music - but I couldn’t even think. It’s such an easy thing to fix but it really made me and my friend uncomfortable as we tried to get work done.
Good, but not the best. Store has a 6-customer indoor limit.
I dont usually leave reviews. You are not allowed to wait indoors, and their workers are running drinks to people that are maskless. Service was slow because they were running around doing everything. I do not know why they cant just be a walk up window like the other coffee places Ive been to. The coffee was good but it looks like they really dont care about the safety of their employees.
Chromatic Coffee offers excellent coffee and espresso drinks along with pastries, small bakery items (from Manresa Bread) and surprisingly craft beer. The cafe is located in a medium sized strip mall and somewhat easy to miss from the street although there are other cafes and shops next door. Prices are comparable to most craft coffee places. It can be a little crowded, but there is a quite a bit of indoor seating and less but sufficient outdoor seating. Coffee is top notch! Parking is ample and easy. Overall a good experience, great presentation and a nice atmosphere. I would suggest a visit.
Ive always loved their coffee so I was happy to visit their retail location for the first time. The coffee is as good as it always has been, worlds better than cheap coffee. But, unfortunately the prices are just asinine. I paid over $4 for a flat white smaller than Starbucks tall version. If they just reduced prices by at least $1-$1.50 Id come here often. Until then its just an occasional treat. If you dont mind the prices, its a decent spot!
Killer place for serious coffee. Creative drinks and all the classics on their menu, made with beans they roast themselves... Pretty much everything you need from a coffee shop. Ive moved farther and farther away over the years, but make a point to stop and get beans and a drink whenever Im near by.
The #🎗️ Golden Standard of the Craft 💛
I tried this place a few weekends ago and wow I am just itching to go back again! I ordered an iced vanilla latte, which is usually what I get when I go to coffee shops. Out of all the ones Ive had I enjoyed the one from here the most. You can just taste how good the quality is and overall was filled with flavor without being overly sweet.I enjoyed the environment as well, it seems as though it is very busy going in, but there is plenty of seating throughout. I also enjoy that they have standing areas with tables for those who are just there for a quick drink and catch up with friends. The staff was super friendly and filled the room with high energy. The line was a little long coming in, but it moved rather quickly so it didnt even feel that I had that long of a wait. I highly recommend this coffee shop and I cant wait to go back!
In addition to the coffee tasting great and the service being good (the minimum for a good coffee place!), their CoffeeHousing non-profit is a great cause.
Ate the Cheese Sandwich. It was pretty boring. For $9.99 I thought they could have put it on some fancy bread but NO it was straight up plastic bag bread from Walmart. For 10 bucks I youd think they could rustle up something nicer. The salad come with some weird pickled onions and no dressing on some hospital bed pan tray. Not my cup of tea. The ice tea was decent.
This is by far my favorite coffee place. I love the atmosphere, love the people, and love the art decor. I love their philosophy on coffee and how they craft each cup. I travel all over the place looking for good coffee and this is my mecca. There pour overs are amazing. My favorite roast is Holy Mountain or Rainbow Pony, both which are seasonal. The coffee brulee is a nice treat. The Baristas understand the processes and the different blends. They also understand the different treatments like honey vs wet vs dry process. Such a unique experience. You really cant go wrong.
This place used to be 5+ stars place and I have been drinking their coffee for years. Top notch quality. Since the remodel and also re-brand, I dont know why the vibe is lost and also their great baristas are also gone. Good coffee from them now are just the cappuccino and macchiatto
The only place in my Berg (just across the Cupertino line), one mile from my Moms, has good lattes (not bitter-as-heck), good & interesting pastries and recently-added bottled pisto - local 🍺 & 🍷. There is shady outdoor seating, pretty quiet, with a good view of Stevens Creek Blvd, across the parking lot, filled with all those Apple, etc., employees trying to get to work in their UFO or Wax Ring, nearby. Come here for a pick me up or log on their WiFi. IT guys & gals actually work here, conduct interviews, nervously try to pitch new APPs & have small work conferences in the back. Oh, the bus to Visa picks people up, drops them off here thrice daily. Dunno about other Overlord busses.
- Excellent service & ownership.- High quality beans and roasting.- Baristas that care.Whats not to love?! This is my favorite place in the entire Bay by far.
Solid coffee- I got an oat milk latte. However quite overpriced ... almost $7 for a latte. Their coffee isn’t THAT good. Since it’s one of very few speciality coffee shops in the area I’ll justify it this once.
Paper Moon Coffee Co. (Formerly Chromatic Coffee) has all the same charm and high calibre coffee as its previous incarnation. They make a delicious range of drinks ~ from the cold and sweet Bonus Cup and the rich dark chocolate coconut mocha of their dessert drink category to their hot fresh pour overs and precisely dialed-in espresso drinks. They also feature seasonal drinks - this time I had the Cherry Bomb Latte (hot with oat milk, on recommendation from the barista). It was absolutely amazing! Had a delightful cherry sweetness to it but also a spicy kick that made it a great pick me up in the afternoon. Here me out, they made my drink wrong. They were training a new guy, super busy, and accidentally made mine just a hot oat milk latte no cherry no bomb. I sat down outside in their perfectly social distanced patio area and tried it and was like, this is super mild for a drink named cherry bomb. My friend tried his and was like, wow, I love it! This is amazing. Mine was not nearly that exciting or magical, so, I deduced they must have left out the Cherry Bomb... Haha! Though it took a bit to remake my drink in the busyness, they made it right, gave me a free drink card, and apologized appropriately. I appreciated the way they made things right.Definitely looking forward to going again, using my free drink card, and probably buying a second drink too while Im there. Its a lovely place to just hang out at.While we were there, the line did get longer as they only allow for 6 masked people in the store at once and people respected that fairly well. So, just keep in mind it can get busy but its worth it. Its great coffee and staffed by kind and friendly expert baristas (even if one is still in training).
I really enjoy coffee, i liked their light toast that i believe it is from colombia. I appreciate suggestions but dont try to talk me out of my own drink. Do not be condecending, i work in a coffee shop too, just because i dont use your lingo doesnt mean i dont know what i want. Please be kind to your guest. Soy milk would be awesome.
An expensive mistake. Was at Harbor Freight this morning and seen Paper Moon coffee shop next door. Ordered a 12 oz Latte as they had no 16 oz options, with a tip it was $7.00, firstly thats a lot for a 12oz latte. Then when I got in my car I realized it was half coffee and half foam, and it was only marginally warmed up. Terrible experience. Seven bucks for one mouthful of cold coffee. Very disappointing.
Excellent coffee. Vanilla latte was superb
Everything was great quality but still a bit high of a price compared to most quality coffee shops I go to and there were no lower price options for snacks or food.Major pro: environment. Theres a small, comfortable space for children to play with donated toys and books which was a sanity saver with a toddler, and I didnt feel it was disruptive to anyone who was studying or working there due to being in a corner away from the majority of tables. Lots of good seating indoor and outdoors even though it was quite crowded but it didnt feel hectic at all.Con: prices are $0.50-$1 higher than I feel is reasonable, especially when the food is for a toddler. Cashier also forgot to ask for typical clarification on my drink, especially given its a higher end shop and Id expect them to know to ask.I had a cappuccino. Espresso was flavorful and well made. They didnt ask if I wanted it wet or dry and I forgot to request it myself, so it didnt have much foam. I got a ham and cheese sandwich with a side salad included. Both were pretty small for the price but each part was delicious.
Dang this place is popular! Went here on a Saturday afternoon and there was a line out the door, but luckily it went quickly. I ordered a chai latte with oat milk (they have oat and almond milk for us non-dairy people ) and I got the marzipan scone which is vegan. Both were fantastic! They had some other vegan baked goods and one of their melts has a vegan options too. Id definitely come back to try the coffee!
Amazing coffee, shorter line at the DMV. I absolutely LOVE coffee and I enjoy getting top notch stuff, which Chromatic has. However Ive only once left within 15 minutes. General wait is 15-20 minutes to get through the line on normal days with an ADDITIONAL 15-25 minutes to get your drink. The staff are solid people, but that wait out weighs anything else.
Great service, friendly staff, very safe and clean! Thanks for all you’re doing to keep us caffeinated!
Very watery tasting latte and that was with an extra shot of espresso. You pay a premium for a below average drink and experience. Skip.
I was home and stopped by to study for a few hours. There is plenty of seating with outlets and wifi. There are some standing tables also which are pretty cool. I only had the drip coffee ($3.50 before tip) but didnt have any complaints. There is a clean bathroom in the back (no code needed). My one gripe is that the drinks are quite expensive. Im not in San Jose regularly but they seem a bit high even when compared to San Francisco prices. (About $6 for a crafted drink) I guess if I wanted cheap I should have gone to a library so I shouldnt complain.
Since paper moon and chromatic parted ways, coffee quality has taken a dive. You can even see the change in focus in their promo material, talking about popularity instead of taste or quality. Paid too much for a very burned pour over.
This place has truly awesome drinks. I love the quality. If you want an iced treat, the dark coconut mocha will not disappoint and the seasonal drinks are always amazing. Right now Im loving the iced thin mint. Its worth the drive. They also have weekend brunch, local beers, and an awesome bagel place next door if you want more than a latte. If I have a busy day its a great treat to get started.
I love coffee and I have been to so many coffee places its crazy how many coffee establishments exist. So many similarities and yet very little to distinguish themselves it almost makes the whole experience feel mundane and generic. But not this place! It has personality. From the friendly, lively employees to their coffee selection and even their beer selection; yes they sell beer too, isnt that awesome? Anyway, I should note Ive only been here a couple times when I found myself in the area but my experiences were great. My only gripe, they dont open early enough. I think 7 am is when they open. Which by then traffic gets pretty bad in that area. Unless youre in a rush to get to work, definitely stop by and check em out. A way more personable experience than Starbucks thats for sure.
Chromatic Coffee is the place to be for those who love coffee, art, galleries, chill vibes, and culture. Think artists meets musicians meets gallery meets coffee house meets live music meets community events meets hipster meets glam hippie meets nerdie meets Bay Area. A special meld of cultures and vibes, truly art in itself. I love the Unicorn Coffee Blend to gift around the holidays for Christmas, the bag is epic and all my girlfriends who enjoy the Unicorn trend get excited. Personally, I always get iced coffee in a mason jar when I go, and people watch, work remote from my computer, and dream up creative masterpieces. I have yet to attend one of their live art gallery events or music events but I am dying to go, as everything Chromatic touches is simply epic.
Service attitude is very bad I dont want to have another time
Really great espresso. I had a cappuccino, my wife had a latte, we both agreed it was outstanding. My son had their spring toast with goat cheese, greens and pickled onions and he loved it. Service went pretty fast considering the very long line (out the door when we arrived). Despite the crowd we had no problem finding seats. If I lived in this neighborhood I would be a regular.
