We fixed a flat tire with the help of awesome bike mechanics. Cool place with a dog named echo.
Appreciate the team. We had special needs to support my husband with Parkinson’s Disease. He needed the team to get additional balance wheels that allow my husband to ride his bike. Bike riding is proven to support those who suffer. Riding a safe bike is an option that allows him to fight the disease and grants him some level of freedom and fun. They also helped us with a bike hitch that was a terrific option to safely transport the bike. Highly recommend this shop! Highly.
Experienced bike mechanics flush brake shifters mountain bikes upside down with alcohol however electrical cleaner is the second process with DuPont motorcycle chain wax thats the final four heavy debris that may impede performance . Aztec shifter cables with PTFE make one of the smoothest shifting cables they are rather than the durable stainless steel cables that can impede smooth shifting by cutting through the Teflon lining in the shifter cable. Inflammatory joints in the finger they result in loss of bike trips at peak time. Bike nashbar has parts to order were the buyer at the bike Church refuses which has impeded the business performance and sales partially. The fine selection of bikes for sale including tandems recumbents and other.
I ask the manager if I could ask him a question, and he said no I’m in a meeting and I don’t have time to talk to you.
I have rebuilt three vintage road bikes with help from the excellent mechanic staff at the Bike Church. A big shoutout to Justin, Nicolle, Carlos, and Sarah. They are all very experienced, friendly and courteous. Take your bike their for repair. You won’t be disappointed. Also, you can find parts their, for your bike, that you can’t find at other bike shops.
Knowledgeable staff and super helpful and friendly! Came in to get my son a push bike and had plenty of stock to choose from! I was informed they have a trade-up policy for kids bikes once he out grows it!
A shared space for bicycle repair. They provide any necessary tools, with knowledgeable and helpful staff/volunteers on hand to answer questions and assist with any mechanical concerns. Bikes and new/used parts are affordable and fairly priced. They also accept bikes and parts that can be re-used or salvaged.
10 stars. Such an amazing place. I came in with an older mountian bike where the handle bars were very low and uncomfortable. They found me a great set of handle bars for $5. then basically walked me thru the whole job....including removing and rerunning all brake and shifter cables. oh and also fixing a spoke, truing my wheels and changing brake pads....all for $25 in parts plus a small suggested donation. And the best part is I now know how to do all this stuff. I dont know what to say.... if you have any interest in knowing how to work on your bike there is no easier way than to have someone walk you thru the process and do the trickier parts even. ...and all the parts available at low cost. This will be my first stop in all repairs and bike building. I may write this place into my will....
A wonderful experience. It did take making a appointment via their email [email protected] . Then agreeing on a mutual day and time. I was able to ask questions as the mechanic/technician worked on my bike, actually learning enough to expand my abilities and confidence to possibly do the work myself next time. Profit isnt their main concern. Keeping people biking is. 👍👍🙏
One of my favorite parts of santa cruz! Very helpful people work there and they will help you get your bike in perfect working order old or new!
We happened upon this place and love everything about this place! The vibes and all is so Santa cruz. I loved hearing a bike mechanic helping educate a patron as i stood waiting to pay for a bike they had for sale. I cant say enough about this place truly! I love what they stood for and all the ways they set up the space. Everyone who works there had an awesome soul and good energy.I still cannot believe we found a Gazelle bike for such a low price. I encourage people to go there to fix their bike, donate donate donate because they most certainly deserve it.Thank you for serving the Santa cruz community! We will most certainly be back to learn how to fix our own bikes when needed and to donate a few bikes ourselves! So much love to The bike church!!!!
I have a 31 year old bike that is starting to have issues. Everytime I come to the Bike Church they get me up and running for next to nothing. I love doing my own work. The Bike Church has a great balance as they share their expertise with you to help you fix your bike! They also sell used bikes and have new and used parts to help get you back on the road!
I took my new e-trike in for some minor tune-ups.They were VERY reasonably priced.I plan to continue to be a customer!
I love this place.. they are very helpful and knowledgeable of bikes. Give thanks to them!!
Fun place to visit if you ever fix anything on your bike. Very friendly atmosphere. Treasure chest for restoration bike parts.
This is a great place for bicycle lovers. A person gets great prices on parts and gets to fix and maintain your bicycle yourself. You get free help and advice from bicycle mechanics and are allowed to use their tools and work space for free... Living the dream, I never had it so good!
These guys and gals are so awesome and helpful. The passion for bikes and helping the community be on wheels is overflowing here.
Think Local, Think Cycle...From DIY bike repair, or have it done for you! Covering Bike Parts and used bikes. What more could you ask for? Excellent customer service and dedicated people work there too, I think that covers it all! I love you guys! Thank you for all your help!
This is definitely one of the most interesting bicycle places I have been to. The sell used bikes as well as let bicycle owners use their space and tools to repair bikes and use their tools at the rate of 5 bucks an hour. If you find a used bikes their that needs repair/restoration, they will help you work on it.When I visited there were a lot of people working on their bikes, chatting and having a good time. The people who worked there are extremely friendly.
Super helpful 😊 Id give em 10 stars if I could 💖
This place is awesome. Steve and Doug (I think?) helped me out and were both super awesome. They showed me how to do some simple things and walked me through some small tasks which I performed myself. Very cool to encourage people to do the work themselves, and they made it clear that the prices were a little flexible if cost was an issue.I got a great used mountain bike and helmet for $145. The bike rides great so far and it feels good to support such a simple operation full of good people. Thanks, guys!
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, Gian was especially awesome -- courteous and helpful with everyone even as the shop was busy and packed to capacity. Passion for the work and care in teaching are evident! You may have to put yourself on a list like at a restaurant and wait a bit before you can begin your repairs. I recommend getting there when They open if possible. I got my cruiser repaired and found a road bike priced very fairly that is perfect for me. I look forward to taking it back to The Bike Church to modify it. A great place!
Great selection of inexpensive recycled and new bike parts.Employees are very helpful if the are not swamped with requests.Generous discounts on bikes for children and last I checked free helmets and fitting for kids.If you need obsolete parts to keep your bike working they are likely to have them.Be sure to check the limited hours before going
Do it yourself credo, empower riders to know how a bike works. Come in and fix your bike, the volunteers will offer as much advice as you need. Build a bike from scratch to personalize your ride. They have every specialized tool to do what I cant at home. Used parts are salvaged from bikes donated by community members. They have both inexpensive and quality new parts if thats what I need. Come in to the co-op and volunteer to help and to meet new bikey type folks!
This place is not for everyone in that they expect you to do the repairs yourself. But are happy to show you how and provide tools+ the space. If you are willing to get your hands dirty you may love it as much as I do. They charge $5per hour that you are in the shop space and have cheap used parts available as well as some slightly more expensive new parts. This is my go to bike shop if they are open.
This place ROCKS! Whether you are bike-component savvy or not, and you want to be part of a repair project, you are included. Actually, you better WANT to get involved; thats part of the deal!! The staff is friendly and top-notch. Infinite value for for minimal $. The Bike Church is a Santa Cruz classic. I pray this establishment continues.
The youth of American culture can rely on expertise mechanical skills developmental learning. Crisis of global warming is paramount with all groups of social economic status to utilize the most simple transportation.
Very dedicated and knowledgeable people who really desire to help and teach. One of the most unique places I ever encountered. They even carry high end quality parts including new but at better prices than bike shops Ive been to. Was looking for used rims not needing new but all the bike shops I went to only sell new. Bike Church not only had what I needed but much better than I expected..got barely used rims with still good tires attached. I just expected used rims but Bike Shop exceeded my expectations. Instead of spending around $300 to $400 which I was told by bike shops I would end up having to do, total at Bike Shop for 2 great rims with tires including labor came out less than $70! Donny even discounted a rim and adjusted my brakes..he imparted great advice and taught me some not so apparent ways to adjust and fix. Donny was patient and demonstrated great professionalism and willingness to teach from his knowedge as I was working on my bike. Now this is something I would expect at a high end bike shop. I know of one high end shop in Morgan Hill that could benefit from Bike Churchs very great customer service. Downside is if youre impatient, this place will really try you. The dedicated pros who mostly donate their time are trying their best to help others besides you or me. Just go there when you dont need to leave quickly or have another important thing to do that day. Excellent service and experience. So glad this place exists.
What a great place to work on your bike or get parts. I have donated many of my extra bike equipment to them. A great resource for those who may not otherwise be able to fix their bIke you have to do the work yourself but often times there are plenty of people to help you. May not be for everyone especially if you don’t want to get dirty
Every community needs a bike church!
Downtown alternative bike store. Hard to find and small. Its not fancy and they takes used bikes and sell used bike. They dont have high class bikes. Dont be afraid going there. People are helpful. I am glad such a place exists offering bikes for the small pocket.
This not just a bike shop, its a worker run community resource. This place is awesome for anyone who wants to get their hands dirty and learn how their bike really works. Try the intro to bike class for some valuable one on one teaching.
I had purchased a used bike for my daughter to learn on and found she needed training wheels, i couldnt add them because the axle was too short. After being to 5 local bike shops i was recommended to the Bike church as a last resort. I wasnt sure they would be able to help but i did find the part i needed and the great mechanics there helped me rebuild the rear hub with a new longer axle.Best part is they only wanted a minimal fee which i gladly doubled.
Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Love the model of partnering with an experienced mechanic - I learned a lot.
Fix your bike for almost free. Great place! They will help you do it yourself with knowledge and their tools.
So helpful! Ill be going back for sure! I liked that they helped me help myself!
What a brilliant idea! Should be in every city large and small, thank you!!!
Great place! The staff is super helpful and they had everything I needed
This Santa Cruz institution just goes from strength to strength. Dont know where wed be without it. Awesome resource!
Absolutley love this place. Mechanics are very knowledgable and such sweethearts- Ive never felt dumbed down even when I dont have a clue what Im doing! Its so fun and empowering to learn from these folks
Cool people very informative about bikes, and they extremely helpful if you have nothing but Lent in your pockets.
This place the best. Community run bike repair shop with lots of parts bins. Every bike part you can imagine or ever need and there will be plenty of bike experts to help you.Favorite bike shop, next to ABS Santa Cruz.
Great helpful workers that teach you and help u repair your bikes
This place is an incredible gift to mankind, there are bike parts everywhere and full built bikes for sale and lots of people who know whats up for you to ask questions to
Great bike shop! They provide tools and advice...esp helpful for a dumba** like me. Greg? Was very helpful!
Amazing, well priced selection of parts and awesome staff. Picked up a new (to me) saddle and pair of cleats
Helpful, lots of interesting and useful vintage parts, decent prices for consumables
I love the bike church. To be sure, this is a real coop, a DIY shop, you have to do the work yourself. You pay 5$ per hour (or 20$ per month or 50$ per year) and you can use their tools and ask questions to the volunteers. Some of the volunteers are very savvy, other are just learning, none of them are paid, but all of them are trying to help you. The place gets very very busy on Saturday afternoon when they open at 3pm, so try to avoid this slot. They are open for Members (=month, year) from 10am to 2pm, so be sure to use to get a membership card, its a lot less stressful on Saturday morning.Ive learnt a lot about bikes here, can do even big repairs myself now, have completely lost any anxiety when working on my bike. I saved a lot of money on bike tools and working on their stands keeps my spine sane. I could spend complete days at the bike church, but unfortunately, my bike is not broken all the time.
A buddy and I decided to go grab a bike to build yesterday. After some CL browsing he mentions the bike church. I say Ive never been. He says I will love it, but they probably wont have many BMX parts. While he was right we managed to score a beater giant BMX and some rando bars for under $50 bones. From now on I will come by often to browse during lunch. The go to spot for bargain surfing, and they take donations too!
Helpful and cheap place to get bike reapirs. Love the community involvement and DIY style.
Very knowledgeable peeps. They do get busy though.
Friendly affordable and staff is very helpful
They did not have what i needed
Great service. Good spare part selection.
They tried to talk me into circles to pay for more services. Ok place, dont much trust it yet.
Great place to work on your bike or pick up any part you could imagine. Employees are all there to help with your various needs and questions.
I got a dark blue wildman se from here
Great biz model... Very helpful...
Good parts selection at good prices
