Hands down, the best hardware store in Santa Fe. All the staff are friendly, knowledgable and helpful. The prices are very competitive.Their lumber is quality and more importantly straight! Avoid the home centers. Shop here, support local, small business.

Just went there to get a block of wood cut to size. Almost no one else in Santa Fe would do it. It was a small job worth (see picture) about $5 to them, but they did it exactly as I needed it; quickly. Im happy there is a place like this in Santa Fe.

Best, and only place in town now that Empire closed, to get wood and supplies. Clean shop stocked with things for contractors and fine woodworkers. Staff was fine. Reviewers who are complaining must want someone to hold their hand. This place is old school in the best way. They started taking credit cards though so that’s a plus.

This is the best lumber shop in Santa Fe! They have unique, quality products you cant find anywhere else. I was in the store recently looking for something that was tough to find and the employees worked together and helped me until they made sure I had everything I needed! This family run business is where everyone should shop for their building supplies. They go out of their way to offer assistance and advice and only carry top notch products! I cant wait for my next project so I can go back!

Only place in NM with top-notch hardwood for custom projects. Great source for woodworkers and contractors. Staff is knowledgeable but it is a small crew often handling a lot. They stock wood no one else in town carries, so no complaints from me.

Unfriendly staff. I saw 4 men working there and not one said hello. They do have the nicest wood selection I have found so far in Santa Fe. I bought a unique hinge set and the quality was poor once I worked with it. When I cashed out, the cashier was just so rude. Unless I need some extra special lumber I doubt I will go back, sad. It appears they have an onsite shop but I dont know what services they offer.

Do you know how fortunate we, in Santa Fe, are to have Alpine Builders? Very lucky, indeed! If anyone thinks they are rude -- they are not. They just dont put on a phony smile. They are real, and theyre the real deal. And theres one guy in back - hes the most skilled guy in cutting custom-size lumber Ive ever encountered. I just admire this place so much. Appreciate Alpine; theyre a real gem. Head and shoulders above the big box stores.

Love this place. Was in search of some special materials for a woodcarving piece. The lady behind the counter knew exactly what I needed and another guy took me all around the store to collect each item. Old school shop and it is worth the little extra money. By contrast: I went to Home Depot first for my quest. Big mistake. I spent 15 minutes wondering around. When I finally found someone to ask, they referred me to 3 other people. No one was able to help me, and I left empty handed with an hour wasted. Next time I will go to Alpine first.

Alpine is the real deal. Its a genuine, unique lumber yard and hardware store right in the middle of downtown. Theyre a small outfit, but have an impressive selection of hardwood that you cant find anywhere in the area. Staff is straight-forward, knowledgable, and helpful. Refreshing to find a place like this still around these days!

Ive tried to use them multiple times, twice they are out of stock, and they are notorious for just hanging up. An answering machine would provide better customer service. There are other stores in the area with better supply who arent so rude.

Great place with great people. I drive all the way from Placitas to get materials from Alpine. I love Jims (owner) Chicago accent too. This is the best and most knowledgeable lumber yard in New Mexico. Anyone criticizing a place like this just doesnt know what hes doing, quite frankly.

Unhelpful and rude staff members. i hate to bash on local business but they deserve it. Despite having been many times and purchased thousands of dollars of wood from them over the past 5 years, the staff is generally uninterested in being respectful or helpful.

Not helpful, poor on timing, came across as bad service.-Came in to pick up wood for a project as this is the only place in Santa Fe for exotic type woods.Sad the exotic wood store closed in Albuquerque- they were heads and shoulders more helpful.-Person did not know how much slabs cost and could not be bothered to come out and take look himself.-We pulled out some sapelle and noticed it felt blatantly cold and wet. The man charged much more than he originally stated and assured us it was correctly dried. When we cut the wood it was blatantly not well dried as every single cut without fail then cracked 1-3 inches.-A separate time we bought lumber and the board warped both length and width wise resulting in the need to plane off around a quarter inch! The last time we came in and needed to have some wood cut early in the day so we came shortly after opening to get this done- when we picked the lumber to cut we were informed, they needed to warm up first initially we thought tis was the machines but to our surprise it was the employees who needed to warm up before starting work by standing around inside having a coffee while we waited.Eventually we left the wood with them to be cut and were assured we would know as soon as it was done, we received no call so we reached out and were told the wood was cut shortly after we had left- not at all professional or helpful when time is tight.Any of these would have been O.K once but sadly this is the 3rd time we have picked up wood here and the 3rd time we have had issues.
