Over-all very good buying experience. This is the 3rd vehicle Ive bought from CarMax. Effortless process for financing. Transfer was quick and hassle-free. Only issue was third-party vendor website wouldnt process my down payment so at the last minute I wasnt able to have the vehicle delivered. The sales department did provide Lyft transportation to the dealership to pick up the car. The sales rep was well prepared and the transaction was very fast, in and out in about 10 minutes! Im very happy with the car.

I relocated from NYC to CA and have been stalking a light blue Mini Cooper with low miles which appeared in my search a week before I arrived. It needed to be shipped from SoCal so the timing was perfect.From the ease of pre-qualifying to the customer support and the final sale, each interaction was handled professionally and personably. I especially loved the salesman who helped me with the final purchase, Allan Gomez. He went above and beyond even letting me use his phone charger so Id be able to get directions home. He was kind, funny and explained every step of the process.Id definitely recommend buying a used car from them.

I got a excellent trade in value on the car I was replacing and the transaction was seamless. I did get preapproved before arriving, so financing was a breeze. My salesperson was Joshua and he was very attentive and easy to work with.

The entire process was very easy and straightforward. Everyone I worked with from beginning to end was friendly and knowledgeable. The only reason I did not give a Five-Star rating is due to the fact that once my truck was shipped and received by CarMax I had to call several times to get status. It would have been nice for someone to be assigned to my account and to proactively communicate with me. However, I want to stress the overall very positive experience I have had. I definitely will recommend CarMax to friends and I would not hesitate for a moment to use them again.

From the day we choose the car (which was not in our city) until the date we got it took 3 days.We had 30 min for the test drive, and we stayed almost 4 hours inside the store. But we already could bring home the car.Everything was well explained and all associates were very polite.

Carmax has a very interesting model. We had an excellent experience buying our used car from them. I loved their 150 point safety inspection on our car, their 30 day/1500 mile return policy, and their fair-priced extended warranty programs. I would buy another car from them in a heartbeat.

The appraisal of my car was done in timely manner. Even though it was a really busy day, all employees kept checking in on me & kept me informed of what they were doing at all times. I got a really good appraisal for my truck. So I sold it and went back 2 days later to purchase another car. The sales representative was very attentive, courteous and explained everything in detail. Great place to go for a trade in, to sell your car or just to buy a new one.

Business office -I went there to sell my car with online appraisal and I got my Audi financial paperwork and number, told me to wait for them. I waited 2 hours went to check with what happens!She told me that she couldn’t get hold of Audi finance to get the payoff. She told me that she was on hold. But I don’t think. I called from my phone only 5 minutes I got the lice person and I handed over my phone to her.What I was upset she kept us waited so long. They should do better job instead of moving around.

I had a good experience the day I purchased my car. However everything leading up to it was inadequate. I requested my car be moved from a farther location closer to the carmax nearby. I received a note saying someone would be in contact with me before it shipped. I did not hear from anyone before it shipped or when it arrived. A few days later I saw it back on the market for anyone to buy. I called and made an appointment for the test drive and expressed my frustration. The appt was made for the wrong day. I even called in to move the time at one point and advised them I still saw it on the website as open to anyone to purchase. It did not look like it was held. They assured me it was held for me. They even contacted the local office and confirmed it was held. I showed up for the test drive and I was told I missed my appt and it was on the market for anyone to purchase. After the test drive I asked for 24 hrs to confirm if I wanted to make the purchase. I did not find this unreasonable considering my experience so far. The next day, I called the local branch for a question on the vehicle and was connected to someone offsite. They tried to tell me the vehicle was at its original location (before I had it transferred). I advised it had already been moved. They said it must be in transit to my location, but had not arrived yet. I had to correct them and advise I had just taken the vehicle for a test drive the night before. While I understand this was not the individual I was speaking with there is a disconnect between programs. Overall, the people were nice enough, but my experience as a whole was not satisfactory.

Sales process was very smooth. My complaint is about the vehicle itself, it was unacceptably dirty. The outside has some soap residue that is hard to get off, also there were adhesive clear plastic strips that are hell to get off and leave this glue type substance that I will need professionally cleaned. The car came without a spare tire. The car came without a manual. Navigation system has glitches and does not work properly. Trying to address these issues is impossible when trying to call I cannot get help in a timely manner.

The good:The concept is amazing and the stores spotless. No sleazy salespeople and everyone was extremely kind and helpful.Now for the bad...I was a walk-in and was told it would be about 45 min. I ended up waiting over 1 hour and 45 minutes to be called to have someone look at my car and give me a quote! Some then looked at my car and inspected it. But after waiting another 45 minutes with Dominic, I still had no quote. I told him I was done waiting and asked for him to email it to me.Another day went by and I called the store to speak with Dominic and left two messages. I finally got the quote emailed to me 1 day later, but never heard back from Dominic. The quote was good until May 31st (Memorial Day) and tried to get through to the Santa Rosa store to explain I couldnt make it because of the holiday weekend and family commitments. When I did get through, it was to the call center who explained to me they couldnt patch me through to the store or the person who gave me the quote.I came back with the written quote on the next day, June 1st and they told me my quote wasnt valid as I was one day beyond the valid date! I had to get another quote and expressed my frustration over the whole process, but I was in too deep to walk away! I waited another 1 hour and 20 minutes for the second quote! It finally came through for the same amount and from there the process was smooth.I must have spent over 6 hours between visits, phone calls and hold times. You need to improve this part of your process to compete with dealers who buy used cars.Your price was good, but it was a long, tedious and exhausting process. In the end, I should have taken another offer that $500 less, but without the hassle. I cant say I would recommend your service to others.

Great selection of cars at this location. Other Carmax locations will either ship for free or for a fee if you find a car in another state. Not obligated to buy either. Had a great experience and the associate worked with me even though my credit was not the greatest. Paperwork was a lot as expected. Recommend MaxCar warranty which can be added to the no haggle price. Carmax cars go through a 120 point inspection before they sell them so you can be sure they will take care of you if needed. My sister already bought a car 2 weeks after I did. Would recommend to start out browsing online, getting in touch with an associate, test driving, and then driving home in your previously owned vehicle. Comes with 7 day no questions asked return policy and 90 day warranty. Great experience, just dont look at inventory after purchase like I did and see a better deal. Utilize the 7 day policy by driving car as much as you can and inspect it inside and out. Great service and would highly recommend the overall experience. Associate still checks in with me 3 times after purchase. A+++++

They sold me a car that has died do to internal malfunctions twice in the last two years. Both having to get the engine replaced. They sold me a lemon inside a 2016 car. Last time didn’t even give my family a rental car and this time decided to be snippy and lowball me for an appraisal claiming things that weren’t even on the car to lower the price. When I bought from them I was super hopeful but all I’ve gotten is bad experiences and too much hassle for “ no haggle”. Really done with this store.

This is my second car purchase from CarMax. The first was awesome. The second was pretty terrible. The car was on the lot for test drive and purchase with zero (0) coolant in the car. This, after they told us the car was inspected. So, that was either a scripted statement or a total lie. That left my wife on the side of the freeway AFTER I put coolant in the car (because the car was still saying it was overheating.) When we called we got a general number NOT in Santa Rosa. The first transfer a woman answered who did not understand us and hung up on us. Now on hold again for the last 15 minutes. I am guessing I will have to take off time to drive there to get some customer service. Pretty terrible.

I always have a good experience with carmax, either selling or buying, thats why I go there. The online experience was so no hidden anything, you type in what you have as a down payment, it calculates based on how long the loan is and what your payment will be based on your credit. They shipped the car i wanted to the store closest to me with no pressure to buy, ( I did buy the car cuz I love it). All kinds to choose from with low miles. Go check it out!

Returned my Audi after a couple days of driving test in the end of April. My loan is still remains. So, they sent insufficient fund check to my loan bank and my bank just declined it. And now, they tryna tell me that my case is closed… Called them bunch of times, but seems like they don’t really care since it’s been over 3 months now… Don’t really want to bring it to the court, but really tired of my Credit score going down for having extra loan…

Ivan was a great help. He got the 2019 Dodge Journey we wanted from another Car Max, no charge. Isabel in finance was amazing. She made the whole process simple and flow easily. This is the fourth vehicle we have purchased from the Santa Rosa car max. The only complaint i have out of all the cars Ive bought at this location, this one was definitely the dirtiest inside. There was food left under the seats, the seats werent wiped down very good. But all in all a 4 out of 5 star experience.

Car was cosmetically clean on the outside. Asked if there were any smells; told that there were no smells. Told that there were two new front tires.When we went to see the car, it was opened up, both doors and the hatchback. Salesperson engaged us in an extended conversation and then we test drove it - only when we got home did we notice the stench of body odor and stale sweat. Took the car to Schwab and found out that the tires were old, worn to the “yellow” caution level. Front end needs work as it dangerously wanders at freeway speeds. Don’t trust that they’ll really fix the front end vs my safety.Sale process was fine except for waiting for over an hour for the paperwork even though it was a cash transaction. Inefficient back office.

I give five star just because the people.The process is seamless the fixed some parts that need.The only thing i had to addressed is the parts I ordered two items only one git purchased. I need to go back and make appointment again. Plus i point out some of the parts need to be replaced not just taped with it and rattling again. The bumper is loose rattling needs replacement of new parts just ordered the parts simple im still on the warranty.I call the main of office the advice just go back there and tell them to ordered a new to any further damage.

After finally coming in on Saturday, I was told I had to wait until Tuesday to see if they would even purchase my vehicle. This concept of selling a car is amazing even though I did research at three different car lots. The time it took to get a quote was far less than at a dealership. No hassle factor. And don’t tell anybody but I actually got a better price for the vehicle at Carmax then I was offered at the local Mercedes dealership came in $1000 higher on the same day. Transaction handled during COVID-19 was seamless walked away with a good size check i’ll never sell a car on my own and I’m sure I’m not going to trade one to a dealer

My experience is too long to write the entire story, however, I try to hit the highs! I contacted Sales Consultant to request transfer of car from another local CarMax. It arrived as described, within the established time frame, appointment made with CarMax Consultant, followed by the greeting, the appraisal, test drive, the entire professional CarMax experience with the Consultant, Appraiser, Business Office personnel. The auto disclosures, application, verifications, and signatures... the car was readied for delivery. Once loaded into the car it did not start. No kidding. This was after closing time. Only the Business Office staff remained, as I had excused the Consultant. Two members of the Business Office clearly knew what to do and how to do it. Inside of 45 minutes, my family (wife, our 20 month old, and my sister-in-law) and I had all our belongings into another vehicle. The just purchased car was written for service, loaner checked out, thank yous, good-nights, good-byes were exchanged. Not so fast... the second car didnt start even though it had just been driven out from the magic inventory of cars that are designated for such an event. Once again the Super Employees of the Business Office, addressed the entire event(s) with a calm and aplomb of professionals. This time back into the store which means disarming the alarm for the third time to retrieve a jump-box. Again, they both knew what to do and how to do it. Much more to the saga but allow me to wrap it up. We purchased a car other than the one that failed to start while in the delivery drive and overall we are extremely pleased with the entire experience.

We found that they covered up an accident unfortunately after the 30 days. It was a cheap repair job that didnt last. I will try someone else next time. It wasnt in the Carfax. Probably something that happened on the lot. They are as shady as all the the other car dealers.

Since we have babies that time and don’t want to spend too much time at the store. But when I checked the vehicle there’s multiple issues. Number 1 TV is not working, number 2 there is an error on the dash, number 3 missing remote for the tv number 4 the vehicle was not thoroughly cleaned I’ve seen a lot of uncleaned dust. Bow I have to deal with all this problem.

My salesperson was excellent and helped me through the process the whole way through. I wouldn’t have been able to get a new (used) car without her!The car did have some minor issues, which a more thorough inspection and knowledge of the product would have prevented. One was tech-related and the other mechanical in the car interior.Other than that, it’s the best car buying experience I’ve had, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a bargain. I prefer these guys over the dealerships, and my car rides great!

Do not shop here. Horrible experience with CarMax, looking to purchase a vehicle and do a trade in. We placed a car on hold over the phone, little did I know I was not speaking to someone directly at the store. This led to him putting the total wrong car on hold at a location 90 miles from the one I was test driving at. The car I was going to purchase sold within the week. Nothing was done to resolve the issue, understanding that they cant get that car back, but again no urgency on trying to fix the issue.Another downside is that 90% of the employees seem like they are just out of high school, and have no idea about cars. Very uneducated in the field they are working, CarMax must hire employees with no training whatsoever. It was a miserable experience and would not bother buying or selling any future vehicles there.

For brief time there you could call me one of Carmax’s biggest fans. This review is regarding my second transaction with them over a series of months. I drive for Lyft and a few dozen of my customers have asked me how my experience was. Up until now I was happy to report to them that it was superb. The sales representative was awesome and the whole transaction went as easily as it could! All I can say is that my praise has done a 180. And I feel bad for those people I recommended go to Carmax.My opinion changed drastically about a week ago when I took the vehicle into a local mechanic to have the oil changed for the first time, having put about 5k miles on it since purchase. It was one of those drive-in oil change spots, so I was still in the vehicle when the hood was popped for the first time since purchase. Seconds later, the first words out of this mechanic’s mouth were, “Hey! Uh, did you know your oil cap is missing?”I was shocked, and quickly exited my vehicle to have a look and document the problem for the obvious legal reasons. The attached photos are what saw, my engine covered in oil and absolutely no oil cap where there should always be one. Fortunately this mechanic at this 3rd party shop is the supervisor and gave me his contact information in case I ever need him to testify.We’re talking potential for thousands of dollars of damages to an engine that only had about 14,000 miles on it at purchase. It wasn’t cheap.Meanwhile, I was sent into a panic. This car is my business vehicle and I depend on it to live. Additionally I PURCHASED it to be used for a long time. Disposable income is not something I’m drowning in, so the potential financial repercussions of Carmax’s mistake are not something I’m able to incur. It would put me out of work if this engine fails prematurely.Immediately after my visit to the oil stop, I drove to Carmax Santa Rosa to address the issue with management. The response was lackluster from the Sales Manager. It was nice of them to offer to power wash my engine and check it for damage. But at this point I’m struck by two factors. This is now coming out of my extremely valuable time which I am not being compensated for in any way, and I’m not sure I trust them anymore to disclose the issues that may not become apparent to me for 10s of thousands of miles from now. I mean, if their mechanic forgot the oil cap, what else did they miss? Replacing the oil cap should be the easiest and most obvious thing to do after completing an oil change, really revealing the incompetence of this particular mechanic. It was unclear how detailed their inspection would be, it would seem to me the engine needs to be disassembled entirely and checked for premature wear. I’m doubting they’ll be that thorough or fair based on my experience thus-far.I am in the process of corresponding with the bank who provided me a loan for about 25% of the value of the vehicle so that we can pursue compensation together as this affects them as much as it does me.Last year I bought and sold six cars mostly from private sellers, and had never having an issue this severe. I will update this review as time goes on to reflect anything Carmax does with regards to this particular issue. It is my hope they are honest and fair, providing myself and the bank with the compensation we deserve for their mistake. Even if there turns out to be no engine damage, I’ve still spent hours on this issue where I could have been working I won’t get back that time or lost income.Mistakes do happen and if they fix this completely I promise to change my review, I’m not out for blood, merely looking for ethical business practices.
