A Saratoga icon. As a Skidmore alum, for years this has been my go-to place for rare, beautiful, interesting, new and old books. You always find something unexpected but wonderful. Some of my most treasured volumes have come from here ❤️❤️ Worth the stop if you’re going from DC to Canada or anywhere in between.

You could honest to god spend an entire day in this store. We have great bookstores in the Capital Region, but none like this. The sheer amount of books is staggering, and, by design, the store is set up to let you aimlessly browse every kind of book imaginable. And I mean every kind of book. You want a three-book set on the Byzantine Empire? Science fiction paperbacks? Coffee table books? It’s all here, and so much of it. I literally found a book written in 1819 there today — you will not find a lot of these books anywhere else.Carve yourself out an hour or two and just get lost here.

This was always a favorite stop for my wife and I and it has grown over the years to the point you could literally lose yourself in the place! Browse forever and theres something for everyone. Rare editions, prints, magazines, everything. Just to see some of the rare items is worth the visit. Organization of material is sprawled through the maze-like aisles and rooms so, if your looking for something specific, just ask the owners - they are happy to help.

An amazing bookstore with many twists and turns. So much variety and a very friendly staff!Has just about anything you could be looking for, including rare and antique books. My fiancé collects older books regarding Adirondack park history and adventurers and was able to find many unique books here. I’m much more simple and prefer fiction and science fiction/fantasy and I was able to find a good number of books to add to my shelf as well. I believe most, if not all, books are used but all I’ve found to be in great condition and always fairly priced. A MUST visit for any book lover who visits Saratoga Springs.

There are tons of rooms in the back of the store, making it far larger than it appears to be. This is a good thing and a bad thing. I got lost in the back bookshelves for weeks, I met another customer who said hed been camping in the non fiction section for years. He couldnt find his way out and had been surviving by eating the glue that holds together the pages in the books. Although I got trapped in the maze that is this bookstore, overall a good experience.

A little hidden gem in Saratoga. This delightful labyrinth of a used bookshop has everything you could want- a curated selection of antique and vintage books behind glass cases, other rooms of inexpensive books, beautiful antique prints, stacks of sheet music, more rooms of beautiful vintage books and if you keep going through rooms, you find the pièce de résistance- a room filled with antique leather bound books that have the most delightful smell. If you love books you will love this store. If you love yourself, plan for a lot of time here- it is a delightful place to explore. I usually spend about an hour perusing through everything.

Very nostalgic feeling and incredibly awe inspiring for those of us who really enjoy literature and libraries. It is almost maze-like in structure, so the sense if exploration is greatly heightened. The smell is amazing: the perfect combination of old pages, wood, and some sweet unknown smell engulf the entire shop (and not in a suffocating way, either). It is a pretty quiet shop, even when there are a fair amount of people in it. I feel that this hushed atmosphere adds to the charm. Quiet awe is sometimes more exciting than its loud sibling. The prices are very reasonable and there is a great variety in genre, editions, etc. You can find books for anyone of any taste in this one shop!I purchased on book as a gift but I would love to return and browse for myself and other in my life. I encourage any level of book enthusiast or lover of all things vintage to check it out.4 stars instead of 5 for a quality that is both a pro and a con: how the shop is organized. It may be hard to find the exact locations of the genres youre looking for, because it is indeed maze-like. This may lead to surprise finds (keeping the adventure alive), or it might lead to frustration if you come with specifics in mind. However, there seemed to be hubs of genres (historical corners, mystery sections etc.) and Im sure the shopkeeper would gladly point you in the correct direction if need be. Due to the set-up, this shop is not for quick vists; its for browsing and exploring, its for taking your time. Enjoy!

Stepping into Lyrical Ballad is like entering the wardrobe cabinet in Chronicles of Narnia. You are instantly transported to a different place and you don’t know when (or if) you’ll get out. Room after subterranean room reveals amazing treasures of historical documentation, forgotten conflicts and local history. Be sure to pick up your copy of Kettlewell’s architectural tour of Saratoga, which is available at the front counter in case you don’t find it in the catacombs.
