Fantastic experience. Carmella gave a great factory tour and my 6 year old enjoyed getting to see how the chocolate was made, and then eat some too. We love coming to get the *almost perfect* chocolate for half the price with the same fabulous taste.
My family runs a chocolate company in eastern Pennsylvania, but I still learned a lot on the tour, just call ahead to make sure what hours theyre offering it. From mystery shape chocolates to 64lb solid chocolate Santas they push some boundaries by putting gold flakes directly in their crafted treats.Go buy some of their almost perfect chocolates at a huge discount. Your stomach will not know the difference.
We loved the tour. Joanne did a wonderful job explaining the process and making it fun for our group!
Delicious! The chocolate cherries are my favorite! We love to get candy here for our friends and family around the country and everyone seems to love it!
This place is awesome! Our tour guide Carmella and the cashier Tiesha (not sure the name is right) totally made the trip fun! Thank you for making the tour so much fun!
The food is exceptional, but the service and the tour were phenomenal. I appreciated the short duration for a fun little outing. Be prepared, they are moving soon to an amazing new facility near the airport. Whether you are into chocolate or not, this is a fantastic tour and fun outing for people of all ages. You dont need to spend a lot, I took 2 kids and we spent $9 for the tour, and almost $30 on many bags of chocolate treats. Enjoy this gem in South Bend.
Great overall experience! The Tour Was Fun and The Treats Were Tasty! They also give you an additional discount after the tour to buy even more goodies! Employees were friendly and helpful.
This was a cool little place. They have a factory tour where they talk about how their chocolate is made. Unfortunately our guide seemed less then enthused to do the tour and it made it kind of awkward. I appreciated that they had samples for us to try on the tour so we knew what we liked by the time we reached the store. A lot of stuff was on sale, so even if you dont want to buy the perfect stuff worth an arm and a leg, you can still bring chocolate home without breaking the bank.
Our experience was fantastic! The lady giving the tour was very upbeat and engaging. And they were extremely generous and nice. Their customer service went above and beyond!
Had a great time! We took a tour of the facility, our guide was amazing! Got to sample the goods!
A really cool experiance! If youre considering doing the paid tour, take my word for it....its worth it! Very cool learning about their operations from the moment that the cocoa comes in to the time they package their products. They even took chocolate directly off of the production line to let us try it. The tour guides are awesome and love answering any questions as well!
Customer service was amazing! Amber, which is the person who served me, had such a fantastic attitude! She was so welcoming and positive towards her customers!
Enjoyed visiting the South Bend chocolate company for a tour today! Wasn’t quite as “kid friendly” as advertised/expected but my young kids and I still had a good time seeing the process and trying samples. Great tour guide who was enthusiastic and sweet.
Employees were very friendly and helpful. Great candy Carmel crunch.
Fun tour with our 6 year old granddaughter who enjoyed making her own dipped chocolate spoon at the end!Nice museum filled with unique & vintage chocolate memorabilia.
So we really wanted to like this inside scoop tour. It was really hyped up on their website. But we were disappointed. You only got to see two parts of the factory and they dont even make their own chocolate. South Bend Chocolate Co gets their chocolate from another company in Chicagoland. We saw nougats getting covered in chocolate and their packaging area. We really didnt like their chocolate flavor either. (Malleys in Ohio, Godiva, Albanese in Merrillville all make way better chocolates). There is interesting information shared and a chocolate memorabilia museum - not a total waste of time. But be prepared for average and not spectacular. (Special note to moms with toddlers- you can use your stroller, but you have to wear hair nets which our toddler threw a fit about.)
Enjoyed speaking with behind the scenes staff...they really know their stuff!
Love chocolate? Make a visit here for great chocolate and a warm welcome.
We always go there with kids. Great place and we had good time. The tour guide was also very friendly.
I went to this location specifically because someone gifted me gluten free pretzel rods. I walked into this location and spoke with a woman by the name of Sherry. Sherry immediately began to argue with me and say that Chocolate Cafe has absolutely no gluten free options at all. She told me pretzels are not gluten free. (I have been Celiac Disease for years and am very familiar with my diet restrictions.) I kindly explained to Sherry that a good friend gifted me these pretzels and I was really hoping to find them somewhere. Again, Sherry began to argue with me. She said the Chocolate Cafe has nothing in the stores that is gluten free and she has no idea what I am talking about. At this point I disengaged and walked away. I just went to look for something for my children. Sherry came back again to argue with me once more and told me if for some reason they did have an item such as this then they definitely didnt make it at their location and that it must be from an outside vendor. I am VERY disappointed with the level of service I received from this location. I am a very frequent visitor of the Chocolate Cafe. I have never received such terrible customer service. When I finally checked out I asked what the ladys name was and I was told her name was Sherry and that she was the manager. Very disturbing to me that someone like this is in charge. I didnt have the bag with me but kept it so I could try and buy these in the future.
Excellent chocolate choices at reasonable prices almost perfect is half price
Got there at closing time on a Saturday and the adorable little black lady let me in to get a few Christmas presents. Best chocolate in town and the best service. 5 stars isnt enough.
Very good your and chocolate is even more delicious.
Pretty cool place, chocolate was good. Learned alot about making chocolate. Cool thing to see.
Awesome tour! Some of the best chocolate weve ever had this side of the pond and we are totally snobs when it comes to fine chocolate.
Visited some years ago while in the area. While in the store, an employee asked if we were interested in taking the factory tour. We thought that would be interesting so we paid and waited for the next tour to begin. Guide then offered to let us browse the store while waiting. Tour started about twenty minutes later. As we entered the manufacturing area, guide announced everyone had left for the day so we would not be seeing any candies being made. Proceeded to show us a bunch of machines and what they were used for. At one point showed us the machine that coated the candies and ask if we wanted to try one. She produced a box of misshapen seconds and rudely announced only one before presenting the assortment. After the tour concluded it was back to the store area so you might buy something. Purchased a couple of items and left.
We drove 5 hours from Ohio to find they did not update their website and they close 2 hours easier than posted. Planned on buying all our holiday candy for family and friends. Got nothing.
Great Tour and tasty chocolate.
Good variery of chocolates
Good to spend an hour with kids
Wonderful local chocolate factory! We toured the factory with our family and it was delightful. You see the converter belts and the works hand decorate all the individual chocolates. Everything is incredibly tasty, highly recommend!
An enjoyable afternoon spent at a Sweet spot in South Bend Indiana. Did the plant tour (our tour guide did great job) and my wife and I enjoyed all the memorabilia in their Chocolate Museum, really like the variety of treats in their Chocolate showroom and store. Staff all friendly and helpful. Also bought alot of SWEET treats from their in house store.
First time in, bought a couple of items. I will be returning. The service was excellent.
Great tour
Very high prices. Great staff though. Definitely a tourist trap.
Always a cool place to go. They do tours and have a HUGE store with anything they make there for sale. You can even buy some of the leftover supplies on occasion, like the burlap sacs the beans come in. Their chocolate is amazing, and its great that we have something like this thats local. Their chocolate covered cherries and blueberries are to die for!
I went here last spring and have visited before. One of my favorite places. The tour is fun and interesting. The gift shop is cool. They also have samples to try and great sales and specials on treats. The staff is consistently friendly and upbeat. What a fun place to work! They will also ship treats to your lived ones. Will definitely visit again!
Enjoyed the tour, though it could have been a little more thorough. The location itself is a little old but they are building a new factory this year they said. Love the price for the Almost perfect chocolate, which made their chocolates a lot more affordable.
Tour was simple but worth it. Product is good. Unexpected pleasant stop.
Took a field trip with 100 campers this summer. They knew exactly how many and ages of campers. It is nearly impossible to let 35 to 40 campers shop in 10 minutes and run them through the cashier. I asked nicely to use patience with our younger campers as we like to teach them the whole shopping experience and paying for their items. There was nobody in the gift shop outside of our organozation there. And we stayed within our time frame of our schedule tour. Actually left 38 minutes early. After we took our campers out of the building, two of our staff walked back in to thank them for their time, a couple of their staff members were talking about how dumb those kids are. We used to love this field trip because it was so educational and the staff were always so kind. I guess times are changing... sad we will not be going back...
All the front office people are mean and do not know how to help people
Amazing tasties for the chocolate lover! Great selection & superior customer service. The employees were friendly & helpful (without that annoying hovering while you try to make a choice). The chocolate is always fantastic & the environment welcoming.
Took the factory tour and the guide was very friendly and made chocolate exciting.
Tuesdays are $2 off days
I wish I could give 10 STARS! From the minute you walk in and are completely enveloped in the delicious chocolate aroma to the delightful young people manning the sales floor, this place is chocolate Nirvana. I would suggest some exterior draw to the business. I didnt realize the location until my GPS all but yelled TURN NOW. Just need some brighter signs.
Nice place to take a tour. Give you a brief history of chocolate and home gets from the tree to the store. Includes watching how it is made there and packaged. Also included a sample. Worth the time.
Tiny but a gem. Great place to stop by, never super busy, always works as a great souvenir to take home to friends and family. I stop by there every time I’m in town for an ND game.
Tour was very informative. Oscar did a great job explaining everything and the chocolate was delicious. Definitely a great place to check out if in the area.
Got some good deals on less than perfect chocolates and seasonal caramel corn, but their regular-priced chocolates are kind of expensive. Love their chocolates, though. If it wasnt so expensive, Id have given it 5 stars.
Delicious chocolate treats! Friendly staff. A bit out of the way. The tour is not all its cracked up to be.
The factory tour is surprisingly fun! A nice, basic explanation of the process of making chocolate and a chance to sample some of the wares. Our guide was a nice kid as well!
A+ great staff
We drove 1.5 hrs from Ft Wayne arrived at 4:15 plenty of time according to the web site, the door was locked, so I called and all I got was yeah we need to change our website we don’t close at 6 we close at 4. How hard would it of been to let us in? Very disappointed, poor customer service
The tour guide was great! The chocolate is outstanding. Definitely recommend going to see.
Loved it, a little bit pricey!!
Wow. Definitely worth a stop if youre from out of town. Clean, amazing quality products, helpful courteous staff.EDIT - weve visited four times now. Always a good variety and lots of markdowns for bargain hunters.
The tour is great. The museum fun and interesting. The candy shop clean and easy to get what you want. Staff were attentive.
Wonderful!!! The tour was great and the chocolate was delicious!!!
The tour was interesting but short. The cost of $5 seemed excessive for this activity. The store does offer seconds for a hood price.
This is place is great, but the exhibits are getting kind of old. And the most important thing, the chocolate, is not quite up to par with Swiss standards. Still much better than most American chocolate. They need to up their chocolate game. To be competitive in the future.
We enjoyed a tour of the factory. Which included samples. The shop was stocked with all sorts of goodies, chocolates, candies, caramel corn in all sorts of flavors.
Nice tour, easy accessibility for those with limited mobility and very interesting! Of course the treats taste great too. Great hidden spot for tourists.
Even though they were very near closing, they were very helpful and even gave us a tour. They helped with purchases after hours even. Great staff. Great prices. Highly recommend a visit.
A great place to tour while in the South Bend area. Their chocolate is awesome.
Very interesting. And it smells so good! The free 20 minutes your is very good. But obviously the quality of the tour depends on the guide.
Love this place.
Had a great time on the tour had lots of sales !!
Very interesting your lots of facts. Their goods are outstanding
I really enjoyed the factory tour here. It was short but informational. The tour guide was great. They have great prices. The chocolate covered coffee beans are the best.
Great chocolate! Although my one complaint that would have pushed this from a 4 star to a 5 star is that the tour that is provided was a little lack luster, but the gentleman that gave the tour was energetic and very informative.
The food was pretty good but the service was terrible. I went in and waited at the front while looking over the menu. I waited for a long time and thought that was odd. I heard people in the back and noticed a bunch of workers back there. I walked back and waited by the cash register. They continued to talk while I waited. Finally, a girl came from the kitchen to take my order. I had order a sandwich and a mocha. The girls who were supposed to make my mocha stood there for a long time talking. When they finally made it, they brought it somewhere else and didnt tell me. My mocha ended up being cold because they ignored my question about where they put it. When I finally got my mocha, they rudely handed it to me. I got the sandwich from the girl who was in the kitchen and it was okay. Overall, I would consider trying it one more time if I was in a pinch for some coffee.
Tour guide was very knowledgeable about the company and the how chocolate is made this company makes first rate products I you are in the area this is a must visit
Good chocolate but wanted the REAL cherries covered in chocolate and not the dried. So I was a little disappointed but over all it was good.
The factory was really nice. The tour was good also. 3 stars because the mens bathroom was terrible. Looked like one at a gas station off a freeway. Otherwise very neat place.
Best Coffee
Enjoyed the visit and tour.... good experience to learn about the local business approach and appreciative of the guide...great chocolate prices too!
Super awesome
Candy just ok place seamed disorganized not the cleanest Ive seen.
I love the South Bend Chocolate factory
Chocolates are pretty substandard, even their dark chocolates are too sweet, with no flavors. At their airport location, I ordered two truffles- the dark coconut haystack and the caramel sea salt. None had any distinctive flavor of either chocolates, coconut, or caramel, but were obnoxiously sweet. For chocolate lovers, not quite recommended.
I liked the tour and the discount chocolate. Wow ok how do I put this with out hurting feelings. The tour guide was very nice we sample lots of candies. It is just if I had to hear how he doesnt like his boss one more time I was going to scream. Yes is was part of what he said on the tour.
Make sure you read the website very well. Tours stop at 2pm on Saturday and they do not show production during that time .Only weekdays will you see how it is made. Workers were a little short with us at first and didnt seem to want to help but later came back and were more willing to assist us.
Its a descent place. I didnt know this was an outlet store, but still good. Weve been to their regular stores which are nicer of course.
Staff really need a refresher on customer service skills. Seriously horrible experience with that aspect. Definitely not the adventure for the kids I thought it would be. The young man was quite rude however none of the young ladies were friendly either. They obviously dont appreciate their customers that fund their paychecks. SMH.
Lots of variety in a small shop. I recommend their tours with tasting at the end
The free tours are always fantastic, but I go out of my way to come here vs the cafes because of the almost perfect candies. If you care about flavor and not as much about appearance, these are well worth buying, and only available here.
Got the tour and some included samples. Nice little half hour diversion for the family on a hot day in South Bend. SBCC is a nice family business with a long history, makes you feel pretty good about the place.
Great for less than perfect chocolate for less then perfect price. But not floor.
