This place rocks! Went for a walk. And ended up here. There was a handsome young man playing guitar and singing.that was delightful. And a awesome closing of my day. Inside the store is as unique as the name and the paint job. Love love love it! Will be going back soon.
My son and I look forward to every Friday for our after work/school treats from here on way home. There arent many places we can go to (at least conveniently or quickly) for not only vegan friendly but allergy friendly foods. My son and I look forward to our visits and every employee we have met has been so pleasant and helpful. I love the house made breakfast burritos and wraps to grab and go too. Grateful a place like this exists.
The purple porch is a lovely small local food co-op they have most everything you need on a day to day basis, sourced locally. Anyone is welcome to shop there but you can also become a member-owner and get some discounts and attend meetings.
Fun store with a lot of high end, quality goods. The prices were a bit pricey on some things, but it’s convenience you pay for. Definitely a fun walkthrough to look through all their bulk items (spices, tea, soap, peanut butter, etc.) and goodies. A great place to find a quick gift (chocolates or a nice soap).
This is my new favorite store! It has it ALL!! The staff are very friendly and efficient. They have a little bit of everything! If you need organic or vegetarian or if you want to support your local author or artist, the Purple Porch is the place to go! If you want a fresh cold beverage that is good for you and delicious too, get to this store! They have fresh coffee and great healthy salads too. The atmosphere is great. If you go, you wont be sorry.
I was a member for 3 years. I’ve easily spent $10,000 plus. Today I was denied service because I have Cystic Fibrosis and choose to not wear a mask so my medical issues aren’t stirred into a frenzy. Worse yet, the employee at the register became argumentative; I’m simply coming in for a coffee with my toddlers. Sign on the window still says “Everyone Welcome” but I’m not allowed to shop here without a mask. Am I not everyone? Good luck staying in business. Sad heart over here.
Had a great vegetarian breakfast burrito earlier this afternoon. Great with a bit of hot sauce!
Very cool place! Fresh food lots of organic and vegan items. Great concept!
We became member-owners here last year and love buying our groceries here. While theyre not going to have the lowest prices on everything, Im willing to pay a little more for local and organic food/products.
Oh my word! I stopped in on the way to my Airbnb and couldn’t have made a better decision! Bernie greeted me, beautiful fresh flowers and plants, lovely candles and coffee and vegan, gluten free, sugar free jam (which I’ve never seen for sale in all for my travels) and all the things I’d ever need to enjoy my little mini road trip for work. I’d stay in South Bend again anytime as long as I can visit the Purple Porch!
Very nice atmosphere and 100/10, was a little hot in there could have been Bernie Sanders tho
Good healthy selections and knowledgeable people to answer your questions.
This place features a myriad of locally-grown produce, organic/natural foods, and cool people. Become a member-owner and get a discount once a month. Cool stuff.Best thing is they carry some harder-to-find stuff like canned jackfruit and vegan meats: stuff that make my life better. They also have delicious breakfast burritos and fresh kombucha if youre into that kinda stuff.Worst thing is its super expensive. If you enjoy dollar bills and holding onto them this place is your enemy. However, the produce is all affordable and delicious.Overall, I think this place has become my favorite place to go to after work to pick-up the handful of things I need for dinner/lunch for the next day. A wonderful establishment.
Great local co-op. Selection may be more limited than a larger grocer, but more than make up with it by providing fantastic local produce and food stuffs.Important to note:Have a kombucha bar (on tap kombucha)Have fresh coffee beans and a grinderHave homemade ice creams and popsiclesHave a membership discount program
WAY OVERPRICED!! Even for organic the prices are crazy!! I only buy organic food. I travel all over Indiana. This place has the HIGHEST prices Ive seen. They sell the same stuff lots of places for 30-40% less in some cases.
Brilliant selection and lovely staff!
Amazing place with some awesome milk
This grocery store is great! The bulk dry goods section is cheap, and I can refill my Mason jars rather than get everything packaged. The people are extremely nice. Definitely recommend!
Great healthy food and good coffee and cool little place to sit outside and sip coffee
The people who work here are very helpful. I was looking for vital wheat gluten and they didn’t carry it but they recommended another place nearby and I found it! Will definitely visit again. Also, awesome selection of vegan goodies, staples, etc!
Nice organic store. Need more room to provide more offerings. But their cashew garlic curry hummus was the bomb!
Great place. The employees are so nice and they have a great variety.
Usually a quick checkout.
Really great organic produce and knowledgeable staff. Farmers Market is on Wednesday’s and each farmer is so pleasant and provide incredible food!
Loved the vibe, lots of great vegan options
Awesome!! I love it here! I go here quite so often and I always get some sort of Gluten Free baked item and a juice. There food bar thing is nice and clean and clearly labeled.
Our family loves coming to this place for buying organic groceries. My daughter and I enjoy going there for our breakfast burritos. The staff is always very friendly and very helpful if you have any questions. I like theres lots of people in there when we go sitting at the tables in enjoying their meals. I love her selection of different products and that they try to carry local as well.
Purple porch always has great variety and lots of interesting things to look at and purchase. The people who work there are nice and helpful. I love buying my worm casting dirt here! And all the organic food selections are awesome.
What a wonderful store! I luckily found it while visiting South Bend for the weekend so I could restock our family snack bag. Great natural/organic grocery selection as well as a ready-to-eat food bar. Delicious salads & a fun Kombucha bar with 6 flavors to sample. I went with the ginger! I will flag this store for the next time were in town.
What a nice little co-op Dont get fooled by their small size from the outside. They have it jam-packed with everything you need and very well-organized. Very good food and awesome service.
Really cool place! I had some cake, CBD soda and kumachi. Will be returning!
Great place to get coffee and meet for breakfast or healthy lunch. Absolutely wonderful breakfast burrito options in meat, vegan, gluten free and vegetarian ingredients. Also a handy place to pick up the locally made zen cafe coffees and violet sky chocolate as well as bulk nuts and cereals.
I dont quite understand the concept of co-ops or how membership work but the staff was awesome.
Small foot print but great variety. Throughout the last few weeks employees and management have done a great job to stay well stocked.
Love the gluten free options, and the salads, and the breakfast burritos!
Love the atmosphere in this place but it is expensive to shop here.
The best place to go downtown for healthy food. Its a grocery store and restaurant/buffet that specializes almost entirely in locally sourced often organic food. Nestled in the East Bank village of downtown South Bend, its homey, cute, trendy, and the staff are great, very knowledgeable and always willing to help and inform you on any questions you may have.
Great locally sourced food with a really great variety. They offer a soups and dishes for lunch. If you are looking for fun, new and interesting new ingredients, head over and check them out.
I’ve been a member from r several years and the experience of being organic has the best flavor and food is safe, free of toxic chemicals and handled with ❤️
Eating and shopping in the same place... I’m hooked
Amazing people, food and atmosphere... be sure to give them a visit and make sure to try the yummy hot/cold food bar.
Good place to find some obscure vegan options! They have food every day too (like dinner food, a scaled down version of the wholefoods bar). No alcohol for sale, which is a shame because they seem like the place to get some really cool obscure weird brews
A fantastic grocery store near downtown SB. They offer dry goods, produce, bulk goods, dairy, and a wide array of prepared. They also have a few tables where you can eat. I recommend their garlic hummus and grass-fed beef chili. There are two drawbacks. First, as you might expect, prices are a bit high, but at least youre supporting a local, cooperatively owned business. Second, they dont sell wine or beer, which would be a superb addition.
Love the outside vendors
I absolutely love the variety of fresh foods and ingredients you can get here. A coworker sent me for the bulk good selection and Ive been back for other new favorites Ive found. I love the fact that its community owned, sourced and operated.
Interesting little find. Would definitely stop in more often if I lived closer. Need spices, you can just buy what you need. But the store has much more. Locally sourced food and products, lots of healthy and organic options.
One of my favorite place to shop
Purple Porch Co-op is so welcoming! It is a little oasis in the ever-improving small city of South Bend. The cafe, Cafe Max, has delicious, high quality food, and in the store and the weekly Farmers Market it is possible to get just about everything I need there. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and diverse people are always gathering for lunch, coffee, or just chatting. It is one of my favorite places!
THE PURPLE PORCH (A SOUTH BEND / MICHIANA FARM CO-OP)Theres so much more to The Purple Porch than brick & mortar store! This is truly a local Farm-to-Table business that cultivates close relationships with local farms for produce, home goods, and livestock. They closely follow & interact with Farmers (the REAL ones) to guarantee Farm-fresh, in-season, green produce for our local community! To leave a small, green, foot-print on our planet - this is the way to shop in the 21st century! The delicious, healthy, & multi-choices of quality goods is an added bonus enjoyed while shopping at The Purple Porch, or online ordering, too!
The Purple Porch is a jewel for anyone interested in healthy, local, sustainable, and organic food. Located in the East Bank area, it is ideal for those who live and/or work around the downtown area. I find myself stopping in few times a week on my way to, or from work. Our community is fortunate to have this wonderful grocery option right in the heart of our downtown area.
I like it . When buying buffet style food, you know youre getting quality food, mostly organic meals. Employees are very friendly Id recommend purple porch.
Local farmers co-op and deli buffet, grocery store with organic, gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, fair trade options. Has locally grown produce, seeds, meats, dairy, bulk spices, grains, legumes. Freezer and refrigerated sections. Seating at tables and has highchairs. Restrooms. Accepts Indiana Foodstamps. All items have ingredients listed and cater to special diet/allergy concerns. Friendly, low-key, quiet locale. Has optional membership that gives various discounted prices and placing individual orders to farmers, voting...Helpful, friendly and recently began catering events locally.
Awesome cooperative grocery and farmers market. Shop and or join today. Fresh local produce. Bulk spice, grains, herbs, teas. Fantasic selection of organics!
Racist to say the least. This place is a hidden spot for rude and racist people that PRETEND to be apart of the zero waste market movement. Certain products are way over priced, rude staff, and openly racist by letting you know you do NOT belong there because of the SKIN COLOR of certain people in your group. This place should’ve closed down YEARS ago. The Purple co op is truly a swamp downtown South Bend should have cleaned up...yesteryear.
If you are into healthy, clean eating, this is the place for you! They have a wide variety of items you wont find in the chain grocery stores. Vegan, gluten free, etc. You need to check it out.
Small but great selection, appreciate bulk items, bring able to bring our own containers, and many specialty products.
Great community space. Wonderful salad bar, soups, and breakfast burritos. Wide selection of local sustainable natural and organic foods. Wednesday farmers markets are the place to be. Healthy and tastey selection. Favorite spot of the community builders of South Bend.
A great place to get organic and some zero waste products like bulk spices, grains, and castile soap!
Definitely one of my favorite places to go! They have an amazing food bar, wide variety of vegan goodies, and very friendly staff!
Dont waste your money and time. There is nothing fresh here. The people are rude also.
This was my first time visit Purple Porch co-op. My goal was to look at the Heirloom variety seeds, nice selection. Clean and spacious store, well lit and welcoming.
This place is great. their lunch options were far more diverse than i expected from a small market cafe and every thing i tried - a soup and several salad options - was amazing. i will definitely be back
Absolutely love this community run business! I especially love their bulk section and house made goodies! Great buys!
Some Co-ops are one cooler unit empty save a few packages of salad and a shelf of old potatoes. This is not that place. They have everything your granola eating, quinoa cooking, cbd applying, organic fair trade chocolate loving family needs.
Chill place. Great option for zero waste buying.
Absolutely love this co-op, we arent members buy its such a great environment with delicious and healthy food. Highly recommend a trip to the Purple Porch!
Excellent service. Such a wide range of products. Loved the bulk herbs and foods!
I love to support local businesses and growers. This place is a treasure. Dont miss it. Great coffee, great foods, and hearty, vegan breakfast burritos. Join the Co-op: worth the cost.
They have great staff. Very good selection of Uptons natural products.
I had to stop and get fermented sauerkraut (helps create gut flora) and ended up with pepper plants and pear jam too! Market day was fun, if a little wet with the rain.
A wonderful place to find fresh local produce and local meats. The staff is great! Friendly and helpy.
Came in spur of the moment. It smells wonderful in here and the music is always a good choice. Lots of local, organic and fresh supplies.
I think its a little over priced. Today they made 2 different kinds of homemade soup either one was any I could eat both had msg in them. Maybe they dont know to look for citrus acid, or hydrolyzed oils as other names for msg
I love it! Their hummus is so delicious! And its fresh and not too expensive! Plus the amazing down town location rocks!! :-)
I love and fully support business models like this one, always excited for whatever I try here.
I appreciate the friendly, knowledgeable staff at the PPC! The cafe serves delicious hot foods, and the salad bar is well-stocked and well-tended.
Wow what a hidden gem.It Smells wonderful and the employees were fantastic!Cannot wait to try their menu!
An absolute treasure of South Bend. Wednesday evening market hours are especially fun to meet and buy from a variety of local farmers. This is one of the few places on my must-see list for those visiting South Bend.
Lots of options for both vegan and meat eaters. The coffee is fresh and there is plenty of space for getting some work done
Was a great experience. Never realized a co op could offer so much
Absolutely the best salad bar in town. Great place to get local coffees and other local foods.
Not only a downtown South Bed grocery store, but a community hub centered on building sustainable, healthy living.
Best place to pick up hidden gems of local food. Also, nice cafe meals.
Amazing place; good food selection and great people with a great heart!
Best place to get fresh, organic food in town! Member-owned but anyone can shop.
As a store its probably pretty good, but Im not really the best to ask about that. Their sitting area is a little awkward to me though. Not very cozy, though the availability of food is good.
Comfortable, warm place to have a conversation and coffee or lunch. Good, wholesome shopping also!
Great food! Pleasant folks, convenient location.
Small town feel, great local produce. Lovely cafe. Vegan haven.
Brought the family on Wednesday. Not to crowded and sufficient parking. A bit expensive but thats the price one should expect to pay for real, fresh, local, non factory farm food.
Top notch cooperative grocery store, with a fabulous hot food and salad bar.
My favorite part is the hot bar...Whoever they have cooking is awesome!
Great place to support the local economy. Friendly staff and sustainable practices
Very friendly and great music :D
Love the purple porch. AlwAys got something good on the stove, and the people are awesome.
Great local resource for the SB community. They work hard to support producers from the area including - @jakescountrymeats #havemeatwilltravel
Good place to get organics. Nice staff.
