Being very understanding during a pandemic, lunch came after a twenty minute wait. Turkey dinner is a staple on the menu, so we assumed that it wouldnt take long. Left satisfied.
Stopped for a late lunch. Short wait for a table. Waitress was great. We ordered meatloaf and chicken and dumplings. Meatloaf was chewy and had no flavor. The chicken and dumplings arrived hot but went cold very quickly like it had been microwaved. The steamed broccoli was barely cooked but the steak fries were perfect. Not likely to go there again.
The biscuits used to be hot. They were ice cold. Otherwise very good
Living in Maine, there are not a lot of authentic, down home, Southern country style restaurants. While this is a chain restaurant, it serves REAL grits, among other Southern delicacies. Who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth? I cant be picky, and neither can you! A worthy niche restaurant to fill that void.
The food is delicious! The prices are great; dinner was cheaper than breakfast at a different restaurant 😂I would recommend this place to Portland shoppers. Its a great place to eat after a long day of shopping. The store has all kinds of neat things too that are reasonably priced. Theres t-shirts, coffee mugs, knick knacks, games, jewelry, candy, and more.Ive never been dissatisfied eating here. Will definitely go back.
Mary the server is the best!! Anyone who goes there ask for mary!! She is the best!! She is military and still serving us!!
Went to cracker barrel tonight the service was HORRIBLE!!! Waited 45 minutes to be seated the parking lot was basically empty not sure why we had to wait. Once we finally got seated we waited another 20 minutes for the waitress to come take our drink orders. We ordered chicken fried steak and got breaded hamburger patties. It was horrible. The corn bread was disgusting my dog could have done a better job. The soda was even discussting. Not sure how you can screw up the taste of soda but they have figured out how to do it!!!! I will never go back!!! I would go to McDonalds and. would get a better meal for less money!!! If I could less than one star I would. The mashed potatoes were gritty and they instant on top off that.
Great food as always! My husband and I drive up from new Hampshire to eat here sometimes. Today they were under staffed and told us it would be a 45 minute wait, we waited just over an hour. (Worth the wait) turned out they only had one cook and 2 wait staff, so they were only seating about 5 tables. I think they did great!!
Cracker Barrel never disappoints. Our meals--meatloaf, roast beef, chicken pot pie, breakfast) were all tasty and served hot. We had Nick and trainey Robert who made sure we errr satisfied.
Hard one to review tonight. The hostess was a complete fail. 8 to 10 tables and we had a 20 minute wait due to the kitchen, okay....this season has affected everyone.....however when I asked if we could sit down because we were traveling with an older gentleman the answer was no and she told me cracker barrel now sells beer and wine. We were seated 35 minutes later and our server tried (the only reason for three stars), but struggled beyond belief. The best for last, the young lady behind the register had no ideas how to count change. Again, she smiled, but lacked basic training to run a register. Been a huge fan of Cracker Barrel in the past.....not so much in Maine.
We waited 35 to 40 min to be seated but there is plenty to look at in the store to keep Us occupied. Service was quick and efficient dispute be short on waitresses.
I just want to say food is great and the staff is pleasant. This is the second time trying to eat at this location. We showed up at 5 with 3 adults and one child. There was only 4 tables that were occupied with about 15 people at the max being served . It was a 30 to 40 minute wait. I dont think I will try to eat at this location again . You probably could atleast sit someone at all the empty tables and just let them know that they are slow due to lack of staff. Now you just took money out of someones pocket when in all actuality they probably would have gotten tipped even more knowing that they are short staffed and they are trying everything they can to satisfy the customers. We are all aware of the situation with the shortage off staff but seems like the customer service is not there anymore.
Never had a bad meal. Staff polite, accommodates, fast service.Hats off to the wait staff. They were shorthanded but they did their job with a smile.
UPDATE 9/2/21:Cracker Barrel read my review and reached out to me for my contact info to “make things right”. Them actually reading my review alone was impressive to me. It shows THEY REALLY CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS EXPERIENCE. They went on to send me a complimentary meal for my troubles. My review has changed to five stars for their customer service and for literally reading their reviews. Thank you Cracker Barrel, I’ll be back soon for that Great Meatloaf!!! 👍👍💯My father and I went here for a late lunch around 1:30-2. We walked in and there was an hour wait. I get that places are busy right now due to lack of help. I ended up calling in a take out order from their lobby lol It was only 15 minutes for the food. We got it and figured wed eat it in the car. We both got meatloaf. I opened mine and couldnt believe how small it was. I thought they forgot the meatloaf. It was literally 5-6 bites. Very disappointed. I shouldve taken a picture of it. 👎👎
Just like any other Cracker Barrel, the food was great and the staff was friendly. Laid out like all the others.
Never been disappointed at this location, the staff is friendly and very fast
We had an AMAZING experience. Our waitress Mary went WAY above and beyond for us! I had never been there before and had gone 2 days without food for a medical procedure and was STARVING. I saw something that was on the menu I really wanted to try but I wanted it as a sandwich. I asked, and she thought for a moment and said shed go back and make them HERSELF! She was SO attentive, such a SWEET lady, made sure we had everything we could want or need, bringing us refills before we realized we were almost out of beverages, I always ask for my soda without ice while everyone else obviously gets ice and she remembered each time that I didnt want ice! Most places I go the waitress doesnt even remember the first time, and she remembered EACH time! At the end she was so helpful with boxing up our leftovers. At the end the bill was so much lower than I thought itd be. The menu is huge, daily specials, breakfast all day....they do NOT have a cocktail menu though. They have a wine list and mimosas though. DEFINITELY and great 1st impression!!!
Dont go here if you plan on eating. I wish I could give zero stars. You told us 1 hour wait, we waited over an hour, then you told us you dont know? Unacceptable. No communication whatsoever from your management. No sense of timing at all. This Cracker Barrel shouldnt even be open with such poor management / wait staff.
ALWAYS Awesome service always great hot fresh food. You cant go wrong with the Barrel!!!
Great place for breakfast anytime of day. The kids love the food and the attached store. We like it because the kids can eat breakfast, their favorite meal, while we have dinner.
It was an hour and 15 minute wait for a table. Needless to say we left. Hopefully when all the lazy unemployment collectors get back to reality things will get better.
We came here for Thanksgiving! Family plans fell through so we wanted to get turkey and this was one of the only restaurants we found open in greater Portland, Maine. We had the Turkey Dinner special which came with fixings, but the portion sizes were kind of small. Our server, Mary M, made the evening. A wonderful lady who made us feel at home. We would go back for Thanksgiving, but hope not to in the future!
Good food as usual, but they were short on staff like so many other businesses.
Awesome place they stayed open late just to make my 2 year old some food highly recommended place
Great service! We had Cindy as our server. Very pleasant! Food was excellent
Ordered my family dinner, $60 in total. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. The greenbeans were a pile of mush that was seasoned with something I have never tasted before or want to again. My meatloaf was already in pieces, and I could have made jiffy corn muffins that tasted better than theirs. My husband had a burger with fries, he got literally 8 fries, and the medium well burger was crispy and burnt on the outside. Fruit cobbler is some jarred berries with broken pieces of Graham crackers...NOT what it looks like on the menu. Very disappointed 😔
Good home cooking food and good service.Highly recommend you try the Rainbow trout and the beignets!
I left there so full I didnt think I would be able to move. Haha. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans with cornbread. Cant go wrong. Very good.
Service was excellent, food was good and very reasonably priced. We had a great guy as a server.
Great stop for lunch on the way to Bar Harbor. The chicken and dumpling lunch hit the spot. The restaurant, store and rest rooms were spotless. Will definitely stop there again on the way to BAH HAH BAH!
Great food and great experience. We rolled in close to closing time and asked of we could dine. Michaela, our server, was awesome! Quick, friendly service and great food. Highly recommend!
Danielle, the server, was a delight. The quality of the food was quite good for the price. At 9 a.m. I was able to be seated quickly and the service was timely.
I went to Cracker Barrel for the first time five days ago and gave it a 5 star moment but this second time I went I had to drop it at least one star I was tempted to drop rating by two stars but my first visit gave me such a wonderful impression my heart could only drop rating by one star. Our first visit our waitress was very delightful, and made our visit very pleasant. The food was perfection every bite full of bliss and almost felt like grandma came back and cooked fresh from the farm. The second visit was so disturbing, our waiter was in robot mode forgetting to ask if I needed my coffee filled, grabbing my plate before I finished and the food was horribly dried out and overcooked. I was shocked to have had such a drastic change my second visit (four days later). I am going to share pictures from my wonderful first visit and hope next time I go back that I will have that first day experience once again. Both days I ordered this same thing called the sunrise sampler.
This is a hit or miss place. Either you get the biscuits before the meal or your drinks take 15 minutes to get to your table. Food is good. Dont go during a lunch or dinner rush though.
Good meal. Very short handed so it took longer to get our meal. Our waitress Samantha was very friendly and took good care of us.
Excellent food and service! Our server Mary was amazing and very attentive. Will definitely request her the next time we go.
I will say the portions are generous for the pricing,but... The taste of the food is not great. Extremely greasy, and bland. wont be returning. disappointed! They do however have a cute little shop thats worth checking out.
Awesome! We had a party of 8 on Fathers day and the staff had no issues accommodating us. Our server was excellent, food was great and atmosphere was perfect! We will be back😁
French toast has no cinnamon so I bring my own. Cant find good French toast anymore so you make due.
The roast beef was super fatty. The manager just give me a discount on my bill. The mashed potatoes and gravy was very old. But the grits were good. And the cornbread.
The food was wonderful. We was seated as soon as we got there. Clean and family friendly.
Not store fault, better not a good place to take a group of 45 on a Saturday night. Staff did a great job of getting the orders taken and food on the table.
The service was a little slow Im sure it has to do with the staff shortage. The food was good.
We stopped here for breakfast before our flight. The staff was friendly and prompt. All our food was hot and good.
Friendly staff and great home-cooked style food!
Food was very good however had to ask Scott to was off the table we were seated at, napkins, corn bread, never came to see if we needed anything so no refill. Gave CK but no thanks & you can pay at register
Food was yummy! Atmosphere was casual! Overall a great place to dine.
No one waiting to be seatwd.Several tables. We were told it would b anhour wait. They had just taken a call, that a very large party was on its way.SOO no service to anyone wsitung. Not Acceptable!!!!!
Everything was delicious and very Freindly staff.
I stopped in to make a take out order of there fabulous Haddock dinner. Come to find out they have taken it off there menu! 😢😭😭 So we ended up leaving with out food....
Staff is always so very nice! They go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Food always tastes homemade and they have the best sweet tea in Maine!
Short wait, food was good and came out hot. Lots to eat and see.
The food was only exceeded by the hospitality. I had a wonderful meal.
It has been awhile since I have been here, and didnt realize how much I was missing this from my life. The Chicken & Dumplings did the trick!!
This was my families first time. We were not disappointed! Everything was awesome from the staff, the decor, and the food and the gift shop I could have stayed for hours looking at it all!! Gorgeous items and i cant believe how great it was all priced!! Our family of 5 left spending less then we do at other much more subpar establishments!! Wish there was a cracker barrel near us!! The best time we venture out we will def stop in again!! Thank you for a great experience!! Oh and my 15 year old daughter said the chefs should get a raise!!
Our server was great and the blueberry pancakes were the best Ive ever had anywhere.
So went recently the had few guest but wait was over half hour once more the special which started at 11 was gone by 2 the food we did get was poorly plated and lacked in taste price was the good and the store was fun not in hurry to go back
HORRIBLE! Ive always wanted to go to a Cracker Barrel and was finally somewhere where one was. What a disappointment. I think my server was on drugs or something, maybe it was his first day-ever! Food was cold and tough (had fried chicken fingers), had to ask for sauce, napkins, things like that. Got the bill from the waiter, was overcharged for something I didnt get, thats a whole other story, so just paid and left. Will NEVER go back. Oh, I did leave the waiter a tip, Im sure he doesnt make much.
Horrible service on 7/27. After sitting ungreeted with no drinks or anything, another server had to go let the other know we had been down a while... happens (been there) but then, got our drinks wrong (just lemonades and waters which we got overcharged for) after 10 mins we were told my grandmas dish was out and it would be another 20mins so we changed orders. Didnt get our full orders, then, again, overcharged for it. Argued with me that one of the overcharged lemonades was the kids, had to point to the menu that showed it came with the meal free. All and all. Frustratingly bad service. Silver haired waiter seemed bothered by us alerting him to the mistakes, other staff seemed great though.
Highly disappointed in the seating/wait time. I arrived with my family and was told to wait in my car for 1 hour. At one hour I received a call that it would be another 45 minutes. I feel a call far ahead of the 1 hour mark should have been made. I have been to this location previously service and food was great.
Food was usual...understafffed. A dear lady waited on us graciously...
Great service and amazing food. The pancakes were really good and we went back the next day for more.
There menu is packed with great options. One of my favorite chain restaurants.
Pretty gaming big chungus sussy amogus pogger time, this physically hurt to type
Food was good. Very inappropriate screaming coming from the kitchen. Disgruntled Employee. The voice could be heard to the front of the restaurant. Not pleasant.
I really enjoyed my time and the food here. Mary the server was awesome and made me want to come back! Plus, Im from the south and she made that sweet perfectly!
Fantastic atmosphere, joyful server, and a little piece of history 😀 ..... Im a picky eater but this was the BEST steak eggs hash w bisuts n gravy I have had north of Oklahoma. Ask for Lydia, super server!!
Service was fine but mealnkt very good!! We had chicken pot pie and it wasnt as good as I remembered! Very disappointed!!! We had the coke cola cake: I give that. 4 stars! My husband, however, did not care for it!! Probably will not go back!
I really enjoy the experience and food when coming to the south Portland location. You can miss it if driving by, since its slightly tucked away behind the hotel. I decided to try the new -smokey beef brisket breakfast- I was expecting the same ol with a new twist. However it really brought the hotness to my taste buds, with the smooth and sweet bbq sauce. Brisket was tender and juicy. Eggs cooked over medium, perfectly seasoned. A real change to old school techniques and flavors, bringing some much needed life back to my brunch.
We used to love going here on the way up to NH and ME. Since last year, we have made multiple attempts to eat here and each time have been met with super unhelpful information and staff. The wait times are not realistic, we waited almost 2 hours when told there was a 40 minute wait and was served cold food, the restaurant cannot accommodate parties larger than 6, you cannot make reservations. When I added us to the wait list, the website would only allow me one table when our party requires 2 due to their restrictions. We didnt stress about the second table as the website boasted only a 5-10 minute wait. When we arrived they said they could seat 4 of us, but the other 3 would have to wait an hour an a half! As a large family that they can literally never serve at one time, they have permanently lost my business. The staff is unsympathetic and did not offer any way to accommodate us or any alternatives other than leaving and eating elsewhere, they took no ownership or responsibility for the false information on the website.
Great food. Fantastic waitress! Loved the gift shop! Will definitely go back.
We had to wait for 15 to 25 minutes because of no help but when we got into the dining room waitress that we had was stressed out because of the amount of tables she was taking care of the food that we had was delicious.
We are regular Cracker Barrel customers and never have complaints. I realize there is a public virus making things different now but our experience on 3/19/2021 was horrible. After browsing in the store waiting for another guest to join us we went to register to get a table we were told we needed to leave the store and wait in our car as there were too many customers in the store. We were the only party asked to leave the store and while waiting in our car saw many customers go into the store and NOBODY came out. After being told it would be 20 minutes to be texted to come in for a table we waited over half an hour and one of our party went in to check and at that point we were miraculously told we could come in and have a table that was free the whole time anyway. It wouldn’t have been so upsetting if others were treated the same as we were. I understand places are “social distancing” and meeting state mandates but Cracker Barrel’s methods of adhering are arbitrary at best. I may not return. On a high note our server was absolutely wonderful.
Don’t bother getting your name on the waiting list online. They still expect you to go in and“Check in” with your name. When you check in you still could be waiting however long their current wait time is. Their online waitlist is a joke. It’s a “first come first serve restaurant” direct quote from the manager I spoke to tonight after having called in to find out the wait was 25 minutes while putting my name on their online wait list, waiting in the car, in their parking lot for 25 minutes and then being told I had to wait a half hour when I went in. It’s awful, if you have little kids. You have to get them out of their car seat to check in and then either go strap back them in their car seats to wait the often hour wait or i guess you could let them run around the store touching everything.
Would give this place a zero if I could!! Drove all the way across Portland to eat after checking the wait time online. It was listed as 10-15 minute wait so to my surprise the hostess informed me it would be a 1.5 hour wait after already being on the waitlist for 20 minutes. The parking lot was completely empty so I don’t understand how there was even a wait, let alone an 1.5 hour wait. The manager in the store was very rude and didn’t seem to care. I WAS a loyal Cracker Barrel customer... not anymore!!!
Short staffed so understand it was not perfect. Never saw a Manger helping the team
We sit in the Rocking chairs, Stroll around the store, We order Yummy Meatloaf and Country fried steak.
Bit of a wait for a table but excellent service & the food was good, as usual.
The food was good; typical Cracker Barrel food. However, due to extreme staff shortages the wait was pretty long. This is happening everywhere in Maine right now.
I love cracker barrel but my visit was not representative of what I expect from them. We waited for 20 minutes while there were lots of visible open tables, they were out of cornbread stuffing, meatloaf, Rueben, cranberry sauce, biscuits, all desserts except ice cream, chicken fried steak and something else that I cant remember because the list was so long. Once we sat it took 45 minutes to get food. Additionally, the staff was uninformed about what was vegetarian on the menu and repeatedly had to ask for information. What we did get served (what was left) was tasty but overall very disappointing.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news eaten there many times but on this occasion was not the best had to wait over 40 minutes to be seated and when the food came it was all overpowered with garlic powder and the steak was tough as nails though Im giving two stars or three stars this is usually a five star restaurant I have to take into consideration that they were short-staffed so I will definitely be back then hopefully my review will be better
Great place for breakfast but on this day I only had a short time and it was a 25 minute wait so I did not stay. I will go back though.
