While driving in from Wyoming, my SUV made a loud noise just as we were pulling into our house. We are in the process of moving so we needed to get the car in and fixed immediately - we couldn’t drive it. 168 Auto Repair was the only auto repair shop willing to get us in that day and they were able to fix our problem that day as well. I’ve had my fair share of dealing with problematic vehicles and rude mechanics, but these gentlemen were far from rude. They were honest, polite, and most importantly, affordable. They didn’t pressure me into getting anything more than needed to be done, they showed me what the issue was prior to working on it and got it fixed quickly. I’m gonna say this again, you can’t beat their honesty or price.While they were working on the car, I remembered another issue that the car had been having prior and asked them if they could look at it. They did without any hesitation and didn’t seem to be bothered by the additional request. Try doing that to a dealership service and they’ll charge you an additional $200 just to look and it (even if you don’t get anything fixed) which I’m sure most of us know by now how crazy overpriced dealership services are.If you have any car problems, take them here. You won’t regret it and you’re taking your car to real professionals who are looking out for you and not just their pockets. Highly recommend.

I never want to move out of the state of Utah because I always want to live near 168 Auto. They have gone out of their way to help me every single time I’ve had a problem. Finally found my independent mechanic shop. After trying out three other shops I can say this shop is fast, honest, and offers reasonable prices. I brought in my 05 Sequoia expecting to leave it there and they call me back with an estimate, but they put the car on the lift there and then, took pictures of the problem, and gave an honest estimate. This will be my go to shop. Great bunch of guys!!

I tried to replace a headlight by myself and ended up breaking the bolt inside the assembly because it was so old. I went into 168 Auto Repair at the recommendation of my roommate. It was 45 minutes before they closed, I wasnt an established customer, and my headlight ended up having additional issues to figure out before it was going to work. They didnt make a lot of money, (if any,) off that repair but their professionalism, communication, and sincere concern for mu safety gained them a new loyal customer.

What an excellent experience!! We had an old vehicle break down a couple blocks from the shop. I saw the good reviews and called to see if they could help us out. Danny took my call and after I explained our predicament (we live 3 hours away in another state), he went above and beyond to help us! He fixed our vehicle and charged a reasonable rate, taking the best of care to do it right the first time! After our experience, I would definitely trust Danny with any repairs needed! Go here. These guys have bailed me out a number of times when in a pinch. They work to keep prices low and do not try to price gouge. Quite the opposite, they found creative ways to help me get my vehicles repaired at the lowest price possible. Dont judge by the location or the old parts laying in the office.I wont go anywhere else in Salt Lake.Edit: Once again these guys win. They replaced an alternator for 1/2 the cost of another quote I had when out of town. They will let you, actually encourage you, to buy aftermarket parts online and bring them in. Its insane. An absolute diamond in the rough. Its like having an uncle who charges you in beer.

Went there to take a used 2017 Subaru in that I was looking to buy to have it checked out. They were very friendly and professional! They told me everything looked great except the alignment was off and the tires needed to be rebalanced. He said he could tell the alignment was slightly off just by the look and the feel. I took it back to the dealership and said it needed an alignment and the dealership told me that it didn’t. I pushed for it so they went ahead and checked it, and sure enough it needed an alignment! Even the guy at the dealership was impressed and said that whoever I took it to must have an “eagle eye” to have noticed it. Great service and very trustworthy!

This place is legit!! Danny my man!! I’ve known him for few years now, since the first day I had my first car fixed and serviced by him. My family and I trust him. Honest and very reasonable. Very good at what he does as fixing cars. Go drop off your vehicle and see for yourself.

I have only been to this place one time, I waited a month after my repair to give them a review.I own a lancer ralliart which has an electronically controlled drive by wire 6 speed.The dealerships were going to charge me 2 hours of diagnostics because of the transmission it was, even though I have had my car to their shop multiple times for service. I knew that it was just the plastic shift assembly which is pretty complex to replace but does not mean anything is wrong with the transmission.The dealership would not look at my car for up to a week and a half and estimated at minimum 500 dollars just for time and diagnostics. not including the part costs.These guys were able to get it done in a matter of days, were very upfront about having to potentially involve the dealership for programming if they had to do any binding of the shift assembly to the ECU and TCU. The total repair labor and parts was 240 $$$ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They did a flawless job putting everything back together even though the repair required taking a 1/3d of my dash and console off. I have not had a single issue in the time having my car back. When I paid for the repair they nearly refused my tip which even with the tip was far under what the dealership would have cost. I ended up putting it on the counter and walking out.Thank you again for making what could have been a very annoying dealership experience a very pleasant first experience with your company.

At first i was hesitant to go to this place because its so small and just a bit sketchy but because of the reviews I decided to go anyway. The man that helped was so amazing! You know how mechanics are famous for screwing you over? Well I would recommend this mechanic to anyone. If I ever lived in Utah I would only go to this man.

Our car was having some issues during a road trip, and when everyone else in town told us it was too late or not possible on a Saturday, Chen told us that the only limitation was whether or not the problem needed to order specific parts, and that they could help us then and there. We came in late in the afternoon- they worked on the car and were incredibly honest about what our options were and what we could expect. luckily the problem was simple enough to fix that day, but even if it werent, wed trust Chen and his partners to take care of anything with our Subaru. Subaru broke down and they were one of the few places open on a Saturday afternoon.Chen was extremely helpful, and transparent with what he was doing to our car. He never talked over us with car jargon. He wanted to make sure we understood.He ended up having to do a full flush of our coolant, and replace a thermometer ($25 part). The full cost of labor + parts was $110 which I found very reasonable.

The BEST shop in town. They stayed true to their quote which was HALF of what the dealer wanted to charge. They were thorough and checked our tierods even though we had forgot to ask. They also got us right in and finished the same day. I would recommend this shop to everyone!

I was just passing through and getting a sound checked out. We met and went for a test drive and both listened for the noise. When we brought it back the mechanic lifted my van and checked a few things before telling me that it was just cupping of the tires. No run around, no BS. Just Hey, minor issue, dont worry about the noise. Always respect a good person willing to help a stranger and especially not take advantage of you in a time of need, especially car troubles. I would highly recommend them to any locals or people passing through.

If you want the details keep reading but long story short, great price for great work with great service. 11/10.Ive got a 35 year old rust bucket that I either work on myself or just deal with whatever breaks because most shops wont touch it. The few that will, want more than Im willing to pay. My wheel bearings have been on the way out for a while, I ignored them and figured that when they went, itd be a sign that the ol girl was ready to be hauled off for scrap. Well, in the meantime, Ive gotten weirdly attached to the car. So the other day when a CV axel essentially exploded I was pretty bummed. That wasnt how she was supposed go out and I wasnt really feeling like dealing with it again.So I called around all over the valley and estimates ran from 900-1100 with a 2-3 day time frame for the half axel, wheel bearings and a few other things. Not worth it. I had found a new car and was gonna pick it up as soon as I could get a ride out to it. So while I waited for my ride I called a few more places. Dannys original quote was around 700. For that price, it was worth keeping my little car around (maybe not really but like I said, weirdly attached to the thing). So the next day I towed it over right at 9. Danny put the car on the lift and after wobbling the wheels around a bit said he thinks the wheel bearing hubs may not need replacing. Which was good to hear because I couldnt find hubs anywhere and I was thinking they would need replaced. Danny said hed get it apart and call me if they werent salvageable. So when I got a call around 5pm I was worried. When I picked up Danny said he and his team were able to finish it that day and I could come get it!! I paid $674 which was less than the first estimate! I drove home carefully at first then I thought Id test it a bit. I slung it around a few corners and shes driving better than ever. I told a friend about my experience because she needs a timing belt replaced and Danny quoted her about 200 less than where she was gonna take her car. So to reiterate; 168 is incredible. Go there. You wont be disappointed.I generally drive older cars that I can work on myself. When a job comes up that I cant handle I either try to figure it out or sell the car for cheap and replace it for cheap. Just not worth taking to a mechanic usually.... That has officially changed. Im so overjoyed with my experience at 168 that if Im ever in a let me call my mechanic situation, this is the place Id call.Seriously, stop reading Google reviews and call these guys.

I had an outstandingly positive experience at 168 auto with my 2008 Toyota Rav 4 Sport. First, Danny spent over a half hour working on my car to ensure he gave the right diagnosis (at no cost). It turns out it was a bad water pump. He ordered the part and had me back in the shop a few days later to install. His price was very reasonable and his labor costs were lower than I have ever experienced. Plus, he was friendly and professional. My car was done before the specified time and when I came to pick it up he even showed me the old part and explained what was wrong with it. Then he showed me my repaired engine. I left thinking, I wish I could bring my car here whenever it needs work. Unfortunately it’s not close to me. My car broke down a few blocks away on a Saturday morning. 168 Auto Repair was the only mechanic nearby that was open. When I got to their shop and walked into their little office I thought: 1) oaky they have a great air conditioning system, 2) it’s appears a bit cluttered and disorganized 3) did I just step into Taipei Taiwan? 4) I will either get scammed or get amazing service. I was apprehensive as to what would transpire.The mechanic came out from working on another car to help me (I wish I had gotten his name). I took him out to see my car. He had me start it (which it wouldn’t do), glanced at the battery, took note of the sound of the starter trying to start the car, looked closer at the alternator and said, “It’s got to the be alternator”. I asked how much it would cost and if it could be done today as I supposed to leave for Yellowstone the next day to get camp sites for a youth group. Mentioning Yellowstone opened up a conversation about that wonderful National Park.He explained the part he would replace, that it should be done by about 4:00 pm, gave me a reasonable quote, and mentioned he would call me when he had fixed it. Sure enough at about 3:45 he called saying the car was good to go. I wasn’t able to get back to his shop until just before 5:00. He charged me honestly for the part and his time. He had even left my car running to help recharge my battery which had completely been drained when the car died.168 Auto Repair honestly helped me when I was in a pinch. I recommend them and wish them the best success.

Danny was very helpful. Im from out of town and my heater went out. There wasnt enough time to fix it, but he told me exactly what was wrong and how much labor was involved. He showed concern and was adamant that I remember the quote so as not to be ripped off when I take it in back home.If I didnt have to leave town that night I would have had him do the work.

I was able to find the parts for replacement and rushed them over to the shop. He even stayed late to help get me on the road again. I couldnt have asked for better service.

Last Monday the knock sensor replacement on our 2000 Avalon was done quickly and expertly by seasoned mechanics who know Toyotas. Yesterday am when I started the car the check engine light showed something not working properly. Im Planning to clean the battery terminals tomorrow. If the check engine light comes on later after a few miles the other knock sensor may be faulty. Do you have any suggestions? I am spreading the word about your shop to Toyota owners in the family.
