I just changed my rating to one starter from 5 stars. Heres why...Ive bought tires and an alternator and starter from Pep Boys over the past 4 years.Im on the 4th alternator now and its just gone bad. The labor quote was too high initially, so I had a neighborhood mechanic install the very first alternator back in 2016 for just a little over $200. Ive had other mechanics install the last 3 alternators that have gone bad (all covered under warranty), each charging about $235. Now that Im having to have the alternator changed a 4th time, I was hoping Pep Boys would give me a break on the labor; nope, in fact, they quote me twice as much as what it cost previously.I bought 2 tires in 2017. Recently one of them had a screw in it so I went to Pep Boys to have it fixed under the road hazard warranty I purchased. I was told by the service manager it could not be repaired because the tread depth was too little. I asked if it was too shallow to pass inspection and was told Yes. I had just had the vehicle inspected less than two weeks prior. The service manager told me the inspection station must have either not checked it or something. I took the vehicle to a neighborhood tire shop and they plugged it no questions asked.Both the tires, the alternator and the starter were purchased in Austin Texas. The initial alternator replacement was done there. Subsequent alternator replacements have been done in Houston where I now live. I never had any kind of issues with the Austin stores. Ive had nothing but negativity with the Houston store.When I purchased the last alternator, I asked if they had been having issues with the supplier of the alternators. I was told they have a different supplier now, and I hoped that would make a difference. But nope, this last alternator, thats currently in my car and has now again gone bad is the last straw.Im done with Pep Boys. I can buy cheaper off eBay.And I already have.

Well I have always been polite to my customers so they would feel comfortable to ask questions about there vehicle that they were going to spend money on.The person at the front counter needed more training before he is handed a broom and a mop to clean the back of the shop.He wasnt happy when I asked to see one of the four tires I purchased. He said,they were all the way in the back,I said, I just want to see what Im paying for before I get my money out of my wallet.I was the only person in the store. I guess he didnt care about making a sale,maybe that is how Pepboys employees are trained,I almost took my money to the other tire store that had people in the front. I ignored the probleml but was asked if I wanted the extra warranty. I said how much is it,he said 274 dollars. I said no thanks I just wanted the tires,then two shop guys came buy with 4 tires, I asked, are they going to mount the tires on my truck, he said oh that is extra,we thought you wanted to go have them mounted somewhere else. I said, no I did not want the warranty and I was going to take the old tires with me. I was confused at that point, so I pulled out my wallet again so they would be on the truck not in the truck. I had already paid for the 4 tires, it cost me 127 more to have them mounted, I asked the guy do I need to pay more to balance the tires,I was confusedI dont believe I will spend another dollar at Peboys, bad experience, I am just glad that I was able to get away from there before I had to pull my wallet out again. I would not go here I looked up the price it was to change out 6 spark plugs parts and labor and what the national averages were from lowest to highest. Guy asked me if its a 6 plug or 8 plug I said I dont know he went out to look I see 6 he wanted to charge me the national average of the maximum pay as if I had 8 spark plugs I Googled it just so I had brains. I would never goto this pepboys as they are trying to probably make more commission or pocket money I honestly dont know but being charged the national average max price for 8 spark plugs for a 6 spark plug vehicle is crazy I ended up going to autozone buying 6 spark plugs and 6 spark plug wires and a toolset that allowed me to change it out and watched a video on how to do it and saved myself money it cost me half the price to do it myself dont get scammed find yourself a local mechanic not a location where its a building of a bunch of general mechanics looking to make commission and not give you honest work for a honest pay. Or do it yourself.

Yikes! This store looks like its about to go out of business (service only with no products available for purchase) and is seriously understaffed. It looks like most of the past employees are gone and at the time of this writing when I was there, it looks like only a total of 3 people were working (possibly due to the whole COVID situation). Consequently, customer service and attentiveness is significantly lacking. Had some tires installed 1.5 years ago which at the time, I had a great experience, with great service by an advisor by the name of Basil. Came in for the tire rotation today at 11:45am. Was told to come back in 45 minutes, so arrived around 12:20am and the advisor took my information. Due to the severe understaffing, I waited for an hour with no communication until 1:20pm and just left with NOTHING being done. Mind you, I was the only customer in the lobby waiting, and in that hour time span, 4-5 other customers came in for questions. To top it off, my car was left unlocked the entire time when the service advisor went to go grab the car information!At this time, this store is NOT recommended for any services until management or the store owners restructure!In the same exact block, there is a Discount Tire, Brake Check, and a Service King (opening up). Try these places next! The only reason I came here again is because I had the tire rotation & balancing package, but dont think Ill ever be back again so that package will be gone to waste unfortunately.

They wasted our time by making us wait for 2 hours when the oil change was done in 15 min and our car was lying in their garage without anything being done. Only when we asked whether it was still done they said its done and when we asked about tire rotation then they took it back up.This was supposed to be a quick oil change with an appointment already taken beforehand.Absolutely horrible customer service and horrendous excuses of passing the blame to technicians not informing him.

AC person did not stay on task. Repair took 7 hours charged for new compressor installed body of old one only pulley was taken off of new one. Lost approximately 1hour washed hands 13 times average 4minutes per hand wash. Task was started @ 11 am finished@7 pm. Did not receive Veterans discount.

I spent over three hours at the Sugarland Pep Boys after booking an appointment online to replace four tires. When I arrived at the store they told me that only two of my four tires were in stock after all and that I needed to drive to another Pep Boys location to pick up the other two tires and bring the tires back to them. I found this request to be inappropriate as I am a single mother with a five-year-old child in VW beetle and a flash flood watch was in affect because it was raining so heavily during rush hour traffic. I refused this idea as it is Pep Boys responsibility to Account for their inventory. Begrudgingly they got the tires from the other store and brought them to the Sugarland location. The manager was not sensitive to the inconvenience that they were causing me by not having the tires in stock. The manager and associates gave no apologies or empathy for severe delay. At check out the manager gave me the wrong receipt with my invoice. Before I left, I inspected the tires and found that the mechanics failed to put the caps on the air valves. Also my tire pressure sensor light was on in the car. Therefore I had to ask them to check the pressure on brand new tires. The mechanics were very nice and friendly but we’re not detailed oriented. I believe that most of the blame is on whoever manages the inventory and the appointment app. I would not recommend this location to friends and family. The customer service was lacking and the service wasn’t thorough. When checking out I asked if I could be compensated for the three hour appointment that should’ve taken maybe 45 minutes. The response from the manager was “that’s just the way things go sometimes.”

This store has serious multiple problems. Service performance, attitudes, inventory maintenance, customer courtesy, sales receipt mixup, damaged hubcap & broken trim on outside and botched, glue it back on coverup....I hope my daughter sues them.

I read the reviews of this place. I didn’t want to believe that the supervisor and other white employee were rude but I witnessed it myself. I had excellent service from the Hispanic employee with glasses. He was very helpful, caring and I can tell he wanted what was best for my car. I hope they give him a raise or promotion. He doesn’t deserve to be humiliated in public. Not coming back here

Enes is the only reason I come to this store. After purchasing a lifetime alignment, I found it hard to actually use it outside this location. Ive been told that the alignment was built for trucks and my sports car is too low by the HWY 6N location. I returned to this store as they did it the first time without issue. Enes quickly loaded my vehicle onto the lift and within an hour had all of my alignment specs in order. Enes even got it better than from the factory!

Do not take your car here, they have technicians that would rather mess up your car rather than tell you they dont know how to change the battery on your car. Came in with my BMW and watched the technician spend 2+ hours to change the battery. It was obvious he didnt know what he was doing as he went back and forth between the car and a computer screen, looking more frustrated as time went on. By the time I got my car back, the center console control wasnt working, and the only thing the salesman could do is give me the store managers name. The store manager basically told me to go to BMW to get it fixed and he would pay for it. After BMW told me it was going to cost $1K, the store a manager took his word back.I tried to go through their claims dept, but they are also a waste of time, as they will take the stores word without doing any real investigation.I will refuse to do business with this chain ever again.

I praise the Hispanic employee that works here. Poor guy has to endure such terrible coworkers and supervisor. Super nice, helped me with everything my car needed. He went above and beyond. I am very disappointed with the attitude the other employees had. You can tell they don’t want to work here. I won’t be coming here again.

Went in for an oil change and change of tires and although the process was rather fast ( 40 mins ) I was surprised to see employees fighting amongst each other using all sorts of profanity I was lucky to have my earbuds. Im not one to care too much about what other people are going through and maybe they were stressed but I can see how it would upset someone else if in case they had kids with them or simply went in with the idea that this was a professional establishment. Pricing wasnt the best but not exactly breaking the bank either and walked out hoping my experience was better this place isnt exactly the place you want to go if youre having car problems as there are better more affordable prices in the area and you wont see behavior like this. However if you dont mind sitting through it and getting on your phone for the duration of your veihcle getting work done on it well come around and hopefully your experience is better. In summary think about it before heading here dont judge this place because of some bad reviews and instead you be the judge of it.

Not like it used to be they dont have the parts anymore but you can pick up OReillys or AutoZone or anyting you can get windshield wipers but they didnt even have those for our vehicle so I was not very happy with the way they change their store

Great Service even when they were about to close. They (Basil, Rudy, & staff), stayed and replaced our vehicles battery even though it was 10 till close. After it was all said and done it was 15 past 8. The only reason it wasnt 5 stars was price was a bit on the high side.

I’ve been to this location a few times and have had average experiences, but this most recent time I did not feel welcome.The manager was on the phone with a customer (or friend) when I walked in. Not a big deal, so I waited around until he was finished. When I thought he was done, he motioned to come over to walk with him outside to my car. The entire time he’s still on the phone and having a conversation as if I’m not even present. As I tried to be polite and motion to the tire I was having issues, no response he just got into my car, checked the meters and backed out. To which I asked “Do I go inside?”. He kept saying “we will take care of it”, but never asked what the issue was.I’m not upset with the service provided by the techs, but by the presence of a manager and how you should communicate to your customers.

Didnt honor the online battery service replacement appointment time. Was told they dont have the battery yet and told me to contact another store who refused to serve me as it was an online order and they would only do it at regular price. Didnt bother to give me a ride home as my car battery was dead and had to leave car there. Also wanted to charge 89$ for engine light check which was advertised as free check.

BASIL in the tire department gave me all of the information I needed over the phone about the tire sale for Black Friday at this location. He was great! I ended up going the same day to make my tire purchase and setting up a day/time for installation. He answered all my questions during both the phone call and in-person. Installation was very convenient and quick as well. I highly recommend BASIL for all your tire needs at this location!

Went in two weeks ago. left almost three hours later with no services done. I had purchased a lifetime wheel &balancing, i take it in every time I change my oil. Took them almost three hours for them they would not service my vehicle because they could not take of the lugs. They last person who tightened them put them on TOO tight. Last person who serviced my vehicle was a pep boys associate. they did not want to be responsible for any damages if they would occur. Took my car home, loosened ALL 20 lugs with a breaker bar very easily.Mind you Im a GIRL, whose 100 lbs. If a MAN cannot loosen lugs that a girl can he SHOULD NOT have a job there!Ordered 4 of the SAME items, only had 2 in stock. I paid for all items they NEVER gave me a call to tell me they were in store. 4 days later I returned ALL of them.

Just to be fair, those staff work there are actually very nice and should deserve more stars than what I originally put.Got there at 5:58pm to pick up my order and they are closing at 6:00pm. I was told that they were already closed but forgot to lock the door. I guess they should really change their operating hours if they dont accepting ppl come in at the last few mins. Will never order stuff from them again...

Waited 15 mins for tire air check. Jorge just looked at us. Ali later came looked also, then Jo (manager). I approached Ali to ask him to help, he turns and walks away. I followed him inside & runs into Greg (manager) he tells Ali to help me he refused again so Greg comes out and air up my tires. Only one other customer was in the bay. Poor customer service. Discount tires here I come they treat you with respect.

I purchased 4 new Avitar tires, and although my car doesnt fly it does ride smother, and I feel safer. Friendly and courteous service and the lowest price I could find for the tires and installation. The customer waiting area was clean, but their TV didnt work very well. Hopefully they will have it repaired before my next visit.

Wish I could give it half a star. Took 3 times to get my tires put on. Tires were ordered Monday and suppose to arrive Friday. Made an appointment and confirmed everything was set the day before. Was told yes and I would be seen at noon. Called again Saturday to inform them I would be a little late and was informed my tires havent arrived yet, this was around 11:30 am. Had to reschedule for the following Tuesday at 8 am. On Tuesday I arrived at 8 to be informed by the Service Manager I wouldnt be able to get work done until 10 am because they didnt have a mechanic show up yet. Gave me an excuse of the mechanic called in late last night. I was upset and thought about going to another tire place but came back at 10:30 to have the work done. Waiting now for them to finish, finally started working on the last tire.

I had to wait an hour before they got started on my truck, after having a scheduled appointment for a weekday afternoon. I asked at four different times for them to check my tire pressure sensors as the light had been coming on, and nevertheless the light came right back on as soon as I drove out. The employees, all save one, treated me dismissively and did not fully answer any of my questions. Not the service I expect after spending several hundred dollars for new truck tires and alignment. I did not receive any report or paperwork on the alignment even after asking for it, Im not even sure it was ever done.

Arrived shortly after 8am for new tires (I had an appointment). Finally talked to someone around 8:30am and handed the keys over. Had breakfast next door. Did some shopping next door. Before I knew it, my watch read 10:25am. I made my way back to the shop only to see a service tech get into the car to move it into a service bay. Before noon I was able to leave with the new tires.

Went to this location on 6.6.19 after a confirmed tornado touched down near the Richmond & Rosenburg area coming from DMV getting my sons state Id.At the brink of close, they let me come by to purchase wipers that broke off by flying trees that hit my windshield during this act of mother nature occurance.Wasnt long after other motorists came in for the same thing.Very thankful that they stayed opened to let us purchase those wiper blades for the rain to come.Awesome service and that aftermath produced double 🌈🌈.Thanks guys!

Bait and switch went in for a special on oil change was suppose to only be 48.00 and ended up 68.00 20 extra dollars for shop fees. This should have been disclosed before the oil change. So I dont recommend this place at all.

WORST EXPERIENCE IVE EVER HAD AT A SHOP!!I took my 2500 truck into this pep boys for an alignment they confirmed what kind of truck I had and told me they could complete the alignment in about 2 hours. I left and was called about an hour and a half in and was told they cannot complete the alignment because of they don’t have the scanner they need to reset my cameras. I was confused because I didnt think resetting the backup camera and completing an alignment were linked. I called the dealership and asked if they knew anything about that and they said no. Those two things have nothing to do with each other and that the place probably didn’t have the correct lift/alignment machine for a bigger truck (2500). I thought wow so instead of taking the blame and saying you didn’t have the proper set up to service my vehicle you lie to me and says it’s something about my vehicle? I went in there and told them exactly that. They insisted still that that was not the case. I got my keys and drove off with my truck. Upon getting close to it I noticed the wheels looked like they were slightly turned inwards it just didn’t look right. I got in drove it and immediately realized my wheel was turned all the way to the left and definitely not aligned AT ALL. The truck could barely drive straight. I took it back immediately and they said that’s not possible because they never serviced the truck. They claimed they put it on the lift but never touched it. Obviously another lie. Asked to speak with the main manager and was told he’s not here. Waited almost an hour for the manager to come back.( I couldn’t drive off because I didn’t feel safe in my vehicle.)They continued to lie to me and tell me they didn’t service the alignment at all. The only thing I was trying to do was get an alignment done after completing a tire rotation. It was recommended to me by my tire guy. My wheels were never off alignment and the truck always drove straight. Now it’s all out of whack and doesn’t even look right. How could you lie to a customer PEP BOYS? If a technician doesn’t know how to do a service or you don’t have the proper machine you don’t lie you tell the customer the honest truth. Once the manager showed up and I told him the story he was very aggressive towards me and raised his voice throughout the conversation, telling me his tech said he didn’t service the vehicle and if I would like to watch the video recording? Upon going into the store and in the back where customers don’t go to watch the recording with him there was a strong odor of marijuana. I mentioned it to him and he just shrugged it off. I continued to watch the recording and after a few minutes asked him what exactly we were looking for to prove the tech did not touch my vehicle for an alignment. He mentioned we were looking for a tool in his hand. I watched the tech put my truck on the lift, put on the sensors or whatever is needed to be put on the wheels, he had something in his hand and went underneath my vehicle for an extended amount of time. They insisted he was just “assessing” and all he had was a flash light. They insisted on making me feel dumb so that I would back down and be intimated. That’s just not how I work. Plus my truck NEVER drove like it did until they serviced it. In the end I was consistently lied to by the manager Gregory Thurman and his employees. I spent several hours at that store speaking with the manager, reviewing the tape and having to go NEXT DOOR to Brake check to get the service done RIGHT. I would NEVER recommend pep boys to any friend, family member or stranger on the street. Bottom line BE HONEST WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS AND YOU WONT HAVE TO CREATE LIE AFTER LIE TO COVER UP YOUR MISTAKE.

Little disappointed because the tires I ordered online wasnt there when I got there for my 8.00am appointment. Especially since I got a reminder to go in the next day via email (but I suppose this is generated automatically). I should have called to check too I guess.In any case, paid $20 more than expected to get different tires and be done with it.The service was good otherwise.

WOW! Ive never had such friendly service anywhere before! Honestly, they are all so personable and informative. I dont know anything about cars and am always afraid to get taken advantage of, but when I went here they made me feel comfortable and confident in what I had to get done.

They saved my engine. After getting an oil change from a kwick car, I started having problems. My car was smoking & I found pep boys & Im glad I did. Kwick car left old parts in my engine. Thank God I was close by. Pep boys is really clean & all the members are really friendly & knowledgeable.

Ive had really good service here, they care about the customer and even installed an aftermarket oil pan cover for free which really helped me since I dont have ramps. They also cleaned the battery leads on my vehicle several times until all the corrosion was gone.

DO NOT GO HERE!This is the WORST service I have ever experienced in my life. I made an appointment here for 9am and I arrived at 8:45am to be told that I would have to wait about 3 hours before they could even take my car. I work in the automotive and it usually works that when you have an appointment you have a saved slot and that means your car is seen within 10-20 minutes of your slot. Not only did I think this was outrageous but on top of that, the service was not that great. The associate seemed angry that I bought my tires at another pep boys and that he would have to call them up to confirm.I am truly disappointed with Pep boys.If I could give 0/5 I would

Dropped off a pair of brake rotors to be resurfaced...the good news is that they still resurface rotors for the do-it-yourselfer; many auto parts stores simply dont offer this service anymore, or, (my personal favorite) say our machine is broken. The bad news of my experience is that the counter guy told me I had to go to the service counter to drop off the rotors...over there I had to wait in line for a while just to drop off the rotors...then, they had to call a tech over, to ask me why I wanted them resurfaced....really? Well, Im doing my 100th brake job over decades of wrenching on cars, and rotors should always be resurfaced, etc. But at least they did do it...

Prices are too high. And, if you come in for work on one thing, they tend to add one or more things for you to get worked on even though it is not needed at the time. Also, the second visit I made I was overcharged but, got the charge corrected after I questioned the charge. I must say that I had to go back and forth with them for at least 30 minutes. This is just not acceptable. They probably would have gotten a minus star if that option was available on here.
