Super convenient location, wonderful service and very mindful of COVID protocol vis the states expectations. I love this business and 100% recommend their coffee.
Places like this do exist! My interactions with Valhalla Coffee Company started when I found myself in need of guidance fixing my San Franciscan coffee roaster. Owner/operator/Roaster A.J. Anderson was kind enough to extend his expertise and point me in a direction to fix my coffee roaster. His kindness and willingness to extend his time and passion gave me pause. Its been a while since I have been on the receiving end of human kindness. Interacting with A.J. made me feel like I was a part of something special. It was a great reminder of how kindness, humility, love and community can fill you with joy and hope. Sometimes life, family and the day-to-day can really dull your perception of the world. A.J. was just what I needed to inspire me to be a part of the solution to make a difference. Not only do I owe A.J. a HUGE thank you for getting my roasting operation back up and running, but I also owe him a thank you for being a model for how I want I want to be seen in my community. When you shop here, know that you are supporting a business that is offering more than just amazing coffee.Thank you, A.J.!
Outstanding pour-over, probably the best Ethiopian Ive had in quite a long time. Very floral! Tremendous service from very friendly and knowledgeable people who earn every cent of their tips. Also, I didnt notice at first, but the name of the beans you request is actually printed on the side of their cups. I know, it seems small, but its a very nice touch!
Some of the best Cafe coffee in the Area. Worth the stop.
I enjoyed my coffee here almost daily while in school. Now that they only serve through a window, its no better than any drive through... except you have to find parking and walk up.
Was one of the best coffees I have had and also sold fresh roasted coffee beans
Wow, their espresso blend roast is phenomenal! Ordered soy latte and pretty much chugged it down--it was that delicious! Their coffee is definitely my new favorite in T-Town and prefer it over Metronome. The espresso blend is well rounded and has a hit of chocolate with soy milk. The roast is strong and dark yet not acidic and goes down smoothly. We were passing through on our way back to Seattle and decided to try it to go. Im glad we did because we discovered another gem. I was about to drive and turned around to buy a bag of the espresso blend roast for pour over at home. Had the pour over this morning and it was delicious as anticipated! A new pour over favorite. Like it better than Zokas espresso blend roast!I wish they open later at night because 7pm is a little on the early side. Its a hole in the wall but, hopefully their customer base get bigger and expand their facility. Regardless, theyve made a returning customer out or me!
My favorite coffee in town. I drink a lot of coffee from various places and Im not a coffee expert, but I do have one made up way to describe the experience. Some high end coffees have a lighter, gentle sort of experience, maybe closer to tea. Valhalla coffee gives a bold, richer experience, more like chocolate than tea.
Used to live near this heavenly place. Now I live in Florida. Whenever I visit the PNW, I see family and drink Valhalla!
Currently sipping on my second cup of French roast. Absolutely delicious. My girlfriend discovered the brand at metropolitan market and started with the Sumatra. Wanting to support local I took a drive to the roaster myself to grab a bag. Cute location, phenomenal coffee. So much oil on the top of the cup it’s definitely an extremely fresh roast. Thanks Valhalla!!
We tried many espresso shops in Tacoma and Olympia until we found Valhalla. Their beans are always fresh and delicious, and their espresso is never bitter or burnt. I roast my own coffee at home but occasionally take a break from roasting. Always I buy a pound of beans from Valhalla during such breaks. A. J. even gave me a small batch of green coffee once to roast at home. Valhalla is by far my favorite roaster.
My husband and I discovered this coffee company while living in Tacoma, WA. We had tried several other brands and even went to a couple coffee tasting events in attempts to find the perfect espresso roast with hints of nutty chocolate and a creamy finish. After we tried Valhallas whole roast espresso, we went out and bought an espresso machine just so we could have Valhalla Coffee every morning. We have since moved to the Midwest but still order our coffee from Valhalla!! We even give out bags of coffee as Christmas gifts to our neighbors. The staff is always prompt with the order and so willing to assist with any concerns.Thank you Valhalla for fueling my life!
Valhalla coffee is some of the smoothest, yet bold coffee, ever! Its a real treat. We make sure to stop when we are in Tacoma. And we always buy coffee to take home.
Best roastery in Tacoma. Espresso blend and valkyrie blend are my tops.
Love their coffee. When ever we are in the area we stop.
Fantastic coffee! The drinks are well worth the wait!
I see why this coffee spot received the 2021 best coffee award. Great people + Great coffee = award winning coffee. Really good coffee and you taste the “roast” flavor. I drink my coffee black with a little sugar and for me this spot gets it right not sometimes but every time. My wife orders the iced hazelnut latte and when she gets hers, she gets extremely excited. She says that even when the ice melts, the taste is just as good as her first sip.
Best coffee in the South Sound. Period. The staff is always incredibly friendly and extremely helpful. I go so much these days they tend to remember my drink before I even order it. The way it should be. Its very small on the inside and does tend to get busy at times. Wait times are never usually a problem. Service is very quick.
TL:DR - An excellent coffee roaster. Buy a cuppa here. Maybe don’t buy a full bag.A small place so don’t come with the intention of playing board games with your friends. They have great coffee and the staff is usually nice. Getting a cup is a reasonable price and is usually high quality. Buying a pound is just over the line of ‘fiscally responsible’ for a consumable item. They have a punch card rewards system but it’s broken insofar as what it takes to get something out of it.
Best coffee on the planet, hands-down! I’ve been a regular customer at Valhalla for 5 years now, and I’ve never been let down. Phenomenal & friendly customer service (shout out to Rachelle!), incredible cappuccinos, and the best beans. If I could give them more than 5-stars, I would. I don’t know what I’d do without Valhalla. ♥️
Great flavor, but 20 minutes for a cup of coffee is a bridge too far.
Closed at 8am....thats okay your competition can have my money.
Often get beans here, fresh roasted, havent found anywhere in the area that does it better.
This is my favorite coffee shop in Tacoma. The coffee is great, the staff are friendly, and their hot chocolate is unique. The shop is small and cozy. If you head there at the right time, youll get the wafting aroma of delicious beans being roasted. I love their lattes, and I buy their whole beans. I prefer the organic roast that they carry. The beans are a little on the pricey side, but I believe that you tend to get what you pay for in life. Thanks for being awesome.
If you are particular about your coffee, this is the place to be. Every roast is amazing and the staff know what they are doing when it comes to making drinks.
Best coffe in town great service nice people.
Great, big line and the staff worked it well, especially with covid-19 going on
Ive been here probably 10 times. The staff puts off some bad vibes so Im not going to make the stop anymore.
Love the edgy vibe. strongest coffee in tacoma
I live across town from this place and on my way to Gig Harbor decided to take my bf here because hes never had their coffee before. We ordered two Americano with a dash of cream and flavoring. It not only took over 15 mins standing outside in the cold, but neither had cream or flavoring in them!!! We had to go back to have them put cream in a cup to try and make it taste a little better, but it was so bitter we ended up dumping it out on the side of the road. Ill never come back here again. Wasted almost $10!!!!
Best coffee in Tacoma! Fresh roasted coffee beans and perfectly brewed coffee! The people here are the sweetest!!! I would give it 6 stars!!!
One of my favorite local businesses to support. I love their bags of coffee for at home, and being able to walk up for a cold brew has really been a treat.
Amazing coffee and outstanding customer service. I ordered 2 pounds of espresso roast online. Im currently stationed overseas so I figured even if I got it in 10-14 days, thats still a win and better than anything I can find here. My expectations were way exceeded when my coffee was delivered in exactly a week, having been roasted and shipped on the same day I ordered! I can not recommend Valhalla enough, just remarkable. Thanks!
I love this quaint little coffee spot. It feel so local and the coffee is incredible. I cant say enough good. Staff was super friendly and fast. They have great whole bean coffee as well, Ive seen it in some specialty grocery stores but there is nothing like getting the coffee from the roster and knowing it was roasted the day before. Come check this place out if you are in the area its well worth the trip.
One of my favorite coffee stops in tacoma ☕😊😊😊
One of the best things about Tacoma.THE best coffee I’ve had south of Seattle EVER.Roasted in Tacoma.
THE BEST coffee I’ve EVER had. The flavor is impeccable and leaves the most devious aftertaste on your tastebuds. Their coffee tastes how coffee smells and that is hard to accomplish. Forever the highest quality coffee in WA. Wish they had a bigger space for in-cafe chillin but it’s rona anyway so who cares!
Excellent espresso, friendly service.
Super amazing coffee and wonderful service! So grateful this place is our across the street neighbor. Huge appreciation to all the fantastic folks who work there and make so many people so happy, spoiling us with the most delicious americanos, lattes and pour overs.
Worst coffee Ive had in WA state aside from Starbucks. Their beans tasted burnt just like Starbucks, and their espresso was SUPER acidic and gave me INSANE acid reflux, also like Starbucks (blech!). Couldnt even get half-way thru my coffee before having to toss it. Additionally, was pretty disappointed that they didnt have anything to eat, cuz I always like to nom on a pastry or baked good whenever I go out for coffee. Ill just stick to my local faves like Gravity Coffee, Moonshot Coffee, Ghost Alley Espresso, etc.
Valhalla coffee serves the best coffee and espresso I have had in Washington state. The flavor profile is strong and robust enough for Odin and his warriors. Anyone who has had this blessed liquid pass through their body should consider themselves lucky.
Wonderful spot! Best Coffee Ever!
I just bought a bag of Valhalla coffee beans (espresso blend) from the metropolitan market in Kirkland. Preparing for my new french press, boy was i impressed with their quality coffee. The taste was excellent, just the flavor Ive been looking for.Thank you, Valhalla.Keep it up!Cris
The good: the restaurant was very clean, the waiter was professional and kind, the salmon was AMAZING. I would go back just for the salmon. The bad: the sushi was not the greatest. The sashimi was fine, but the sushi rice didnt taste fresh at all. Some of the rolls we ordered almost tasted like they had been pre-made.
They make some really make a mean cup of joe. And the service is one of a kind. And everything is reasonably priced too at that.
I stopped by today for the first time after driving past the sign four years. Im so glad that I did! Service was amazing and friendly. The baristas were incredibly well informed and made such an amazing cup of coffee that I had to stick around so I could drink the first cup and order another for the road. Definitely try the local honey! I will definitely be back the next time Im in town and craving a beautifully pulled espresso shot. If I could give them a higher rating I would.
First visit today, the girl who took my order (Stasia) was fantastic, she was able to help me figure out what would be a drink that I could enjoy... She was spot on.. the home roasted flavor was great... Definitely going back...
How has anyone written a negative review about this place? The coffee is forking awesome. The staff is cool. The smell is amazing. Its small and perfect. Mocha is my #1 drink here, and I dont even like normal mochas at most places (typically I go for a white mocha).
Great tasting coffee, had a cappuccino. Staff left something to be desired. Not very welcoming.
Great coffee through and through. I may even be as bold as to say this is the best coffee I have had in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area. It has everything you are looking for in a top tier coffee shop. They have mastered their personal flavors and aromas and present them on an artful and crafty way. Definitely check this spot out if you are in the Tacoma area!Update January 2020: my family and moved from Tacoma to Salt Lake City recently and sadly are now geographically separated from our favorite coffee shop. But not to worry! They ship the beans to us for a very reasonable price! We still get two pounds of their espresso blend each month and we still get to drink superb daily espresso with our recently upgraded home espresso machine. Ive tried many other beans with our machine and none have the flavor or the quality of Valhalla. Im officially addicted.
Love the coffee and love the people! Relatively fast service with a really positive and caring atmosphere. Pretty cheap, too! For the quality, It is definitely worth the pricetg
Amazing roast! best coffee I have found in Tacoma. Friendly service and a hip vibe. Not the fastest cup of coffee... but perfection takes some time.
Definitely the best cold brew Ive ever had. The barista who I spoke to said that she makes it herself. The cold brew was perfectly balanced and brought out the fruity notes of the coffee. Im usually one to put just a tiny splash of milk in my coffee, but I felt no need to modify this amazing flavor. Definitely someplace to stop by if youre looking for good cold brew!
Their latte is always the best one for me. The little touch design on the foam is also my favor. Just smell and look at the little touch design on the foam will make my day.
Amazing! Visiting son in Tacoma last year and he told us we HAD to try your coffee because it’s the best! So right! We live in Pennsylvania and love local coffee shops wherever we go, however we now have Valhalla shipped to our home and also share it with others!Outstanding coffee and excellent customer service!
I had just flown in from LA on an early morning flight and as I approached Tacoma I decided to stop for some coffee. It seemed like I had passed more than a dozen SB’s along the way, but they are just not my sort of thing. So I googled “best coffee in Tacoma” and Valhalla appeared at the top of the list. So on a lark, I punched the “directions” tab and arrived here. The street and the exterior appeared to be somewhat nondescript. Yet, one step inside, just one whiff of that unmistakable aroma of a coffee Roastery and finally one look at the decor which exuded such character. I knew that I was in luck. I ordered a cappuccino in a glass cup. I was pre-warned that it would take a few minutes, I was OK with that, since results, not speed matter to me. And I can say this as a coffee connoisseur, and someone not prone to exaggeration, that this was the best cappuccino I have ever had in my entire life. I normally order my own fair trade small batch Kava Forest Ethiopian coffee directly, I fresh burr grind and use high pressure controlled pull espresso machines. I can never make anything as good as what I had today. I am here for another day, and I hope to go back and get some tips on how they are able to achieve such perfection.
I buy Valhalla beans when I am out of my own roast, and theyre great. A bit more expensive than youd pay at the grocery store, but youre paying for quality. The coffee brewed on site is excellent as well.
Excellent coffee. Great beans! Wonderful neighborhood place. Expect it to be busy at times, but quick and worth the wait.
Really good coffee. They roast there own and seem to be all over town. The macchiato was very good. They do a lot over pour over with high quality coffee. Very popular.
Absolutely LOVE Valhalla! Such strong and smooth coffee! I find myself coming here multiple times a week. I usually get an iced vanilla americano and its crafted perfectly every time. The beans are roasted on site and the whole place smells amazing! Would definitely recommend!
Awesome coffee, butter and earthy. Never over roasted or under roasted they seem to have nailed the Perfect Blend. Management and ownership who care. True masters of their craft. Cheers
I always tell people that this is the best coffee I have ever had in my life and I miss having easy access to it every day. When I lived within walking distance, this is the only place I would get my coffee beans, and I loved to treat myself to an americano whenever I was in there. The employees were always wonderful and ready to answer any questions, and I loved talking about the roasting process with the owner a few times. There really isnt much room for sitting inside (although its been a few years since I was there), but I always drank my coffee as I walked home.
Very friendly staff that give a hometown feel and awesome coffee.
The guys over there were friendly and awesome. But I want to emphasize more on the coffee. I had a vanilla latte and I really didnt like it. I could not feel the coffee taste. Probably it was made in wrong proportions. Not an ideal place for coffee lovers!!
Fantastic service, better coffee. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a good cup of joe! The staff are very knowledgeable of their product and were all full of smiles!
Really, really good. The coffee is strong, but not bitter. The customer service is on point. Friendly and knowledgeable.
If you want a no-frills cup of coffee or if you want a good latte, this is the best place to go in Tacoma. I typically order a vanilla latte. If you want fancy flavors go a few blocks to the Metronome, but Valhalla has the best beans and the best coffee. Very friendly service, quality merchandise, and if you come at the right time you can even watch them work the bean roaster.Drinks are fast, good, and consistent.Tips:Iced drinks are only served during the hotter months. Not the greatest hang out spot since seating is limited to small parties and it can get pretty loud and crowded at times; that being said the employees are efficient and will get you out of there with a smile on your face as fast as is possible for coffee of this quality.
Excellent coffee with a cool vibe. Its a small place and can get quite busy. If you are patient and enjoy the environment you will get a great cup of coffee.
Love this place. The staff are super friendly. The barista made me a latte with a swan design, swans are my favorite so it was a weird coincidence. Will def be back!
Very Cute. The coffee is roasted in house and was fantastic. The staff was super sweet and very knowledgeable. The shop is fairly small with limited indoor seating.
Espresso was awesome. Had a cappuccino in house, foam was really airy and the espresso seemed over shot and had a slight bitter taste, overall not bad, maybe a bad shot because the espresso alone is excellent
Great coffee !!
Great mochas! Sometimes the line is very lone.
Simply the Pinnacle of the Bean in the South Puget Sound. Quality sourced and roasted beans. Highly skilled baristas. Open and relaxed vibe. Smell and drink deeply.
These guys are too good. Great service, and the coffee is absolutely the best. I give out Valhalla as gifts for Christmas, and when Im visiting family, and always a hit.
The baristas were very friendly and answered all my coffee questions with a smile. The coffee itself was the best espresso Ive had in some time, full bodied with a great crema. I will be re-visiting!
Love this place. Bomb coffee, friendly staff!
Best mocha Ive ever had, without a doubt
Great coffee roaster. One of the oldest in Tacoma. Fresh pour overs all the time, cant beat that!
I already drank multiple shots of espresso to pick out roasts I wanted to bring back home, so I was already too caffeinated to drink any more. I still wanted to buy a few more bags of beans to bring back home here but each roast had no descriptions to go along with them and the staff only recommended one particular roast for me, even though I expressed that I wanted to purchase multiple bags. I ended up buying only one.
The place smells amazing. The roaster is right there so you can see wheree you beans were roasted. The baristas are extremely friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend them to anyone who loves coffee.
As far as I am concerned Best Coffee in Tacoma. Nice non corporate cozy friendly place selling strong high quality coffee.
Just excellent coffee. in the age of unimaginative corporate coffee becoming the norm, this is a haven of truly fine beans. 11/10 will come here every day forever.
Gritty, punk rock, and my favorite color scheme...RED & BLACK!!!
