While I understand this is a Co Op and I always would rather support local before corporations, in this case. I just cant. The employees were very nice. But this review is for the selection and pricing. The selection is very limited. I couldnt find 5 out of the 5 items I needed. I couldnt find much local products either. Additionally, the prices are high. Even more so than Whole Foods. Id prefer to go to other local stores in the area like Roots and Moms. Better selection and pricing!
I want to love this place. But I only find it so-so. I dont understand their care of merchandise, and I dont understand the chilliness of the staff when I interrupt their conversations to ask about something. Ive made my peace with the prices, love the bread and some of the fruit - but I have to brave the resentment of half the staff to make my purchases. Too bad - the addition of beer and wine is great; too much cbd stuff and wellness stuff have taken the place of food in the past ten years.
Good wine selection, little pricey but a good store
Very good quality organic selections, plus many local items. I do about 80% of my shopping here. I wish they had more room for fresh seafood and a carry-out bar. An important community resource. Member owned, but anyone can shop. Members get discounts, but I do wish we would switch to a patronage refund system. Been shopping here for forty years!
So sad that the stores closing I love thats its in walking distance and I can get my fresh local produce here. I wish there was a way to stop this from going down
Love this place. Wine selection is awesome. Produce is super fresh and without fail there is always something new that I didnt know I needed!
This grocery is great! Its small but has a rather large selection of items. Great, friendly customer service too!
Great highly curated organic and health products. Offers curb side pickup. Hospitable community vibe
Alwayzzz fantabulouzzz ... the guest w/me wazzz his first time. He enjoy the shopping 🛍 & will definitely be a regular customer.
Never have problems at this location; great butcher, their florist is knowledgeable and patient, and their customer service staff are kind, professional, and quick.
Absolutely love it here, they have a wonderful selection.
This co-op is one of my favorite things about Takoma Park. They have a fantastic bulk section, local produce, well-curated wines, everything a vegetarian/vegan could want and the friendliest staff! Also, a great selection of cosmetics.
Just popped into to pickup a few things and this place was great would go back next time I am in the area.
Old farty generally unfriendly coop food store. Were out of bean sprouts and did not give a dang. Not very clean and a waste land. Drive to Sprouts.
I have been shopping here proudly for years. It truly is a hidden gem. This place has the best selection of all your health food wants and needs. From organic produce to organic wines, I highly recommend this store and whole foods has nothing on this place. Everything you could want and need from dried fruit to tofu and fresh foods ready made items are here. Their staff are all extremely hardworking kind and knowledgeable about the products(health products etc). They have a really nice variety of local foods, beers, wines, lotions and vitamins. I highly recommend this store for everyone.
Love the concept, the service and the quality of the food they sell. The customer service is excellent and because I have been a member so long I have had many great friends who have worked there
Great selection of organic and small vineyard wines
Great co-op. Membership price pays off quickly. They have done a fabulous job during this pandemic. You order on line, they notify you when your order is ready and you pick up in their parking lot. Great selection of products and friendly employees.
The employees are very nasty they do not fear losing there jobs at all one your lady hung the phone up in my face I am not going to report it because I no they all stick together not going to waste my time they are spoil who sits down at the cash register to ring up food thats the problem they need to be more firm on them. They dont practice 6 feet distance be careful when you asking them a question they will get close up on you and dont worry about reporting it to the manager name Carlos he is very nasty also he threatened to not take my special orders any more because I return it why I return it because if i order 25lb bag of organic raw sunflower seeds and the bag dont say raw on it what do u suspect me to do be and this not the only time this happen be carful they sell fake stuff .I am going to report them to better business bureau today.
The co-op is one of my favorite places to shop for local fruits and veggies. Their products are organics. From makeup to wine and beer.Parking is easy. Staffs are friendly and helpful isn’t a big store but it’s very well stocked. They have wild catch salmon, grass-fed ground beef sausages hotdogs and bacon if you are a meat lover. If not it’s tons of fresh vegetables and seasonal fruits, tofu, and vegetarian options.Local kombucha, soaps, and bath bombs.Samosas, supergirl soup, coffee and local pastries offered daily.I have found seasonal items affordable. It’s my alternative from other trendy organic stores.
I’m so saddened by what the CoOp has become. As longstanding members my husband and I have given our full support especially in terms of cold hard cash. This CoOp has now been rendered DANGEROUS & HOSTILE. The workers are not following any semblance of the protective measures necessary to keep store traffic down. The employees are hostile and MEAN. They offer a five item pickup limit and refuse to actually honor that service. They are argumentative and passive aggressive as if they are angry with the customers and view them as privleged individuals who are forcing them to work. I was aggressed upon so many times I actually rerirned my items after Eric the manager hung up on me without even allowing me to explain that Charlotte (the person at the door) came to give me my card and was placing it ON THE GROUND outside. I am not making this up. After Charlottes passive aggressive attacks and TWO BOTCHED five item pickups I continued to be patient but they continued to aggress upon me. When I finally asked for the return Eric ignored me until Charlotte alerted him that I had phoned the police to assist me. This is how aggressive the employees are. Being forced to call the local authorities in order to make a clear statement that I hope reaches the CoOp Board was itterly ridiculous. I withdraw my support. I do not feel this CoOp is in any way reflective of their mission statement any longer. And to top it all off price gouging is obviously the order of the day at the Takoma Silverspring “CoOperative”.
Very nice store. Tremendous produce and many specialty items, such as really great milk from the Harrisburg dairy and a wide range of gluten free options. Also a rich selection of different Montgomery County and DC ales. Very friendly staff.
I only come here for one item but the staff always seems willing to be helpful In Any way
My favorite teas are always in stock! CIVILITEA!
Ok
Delicious food
Great coop grocery store. The selection is varied and there is enough to make the trip worthwhile. Also one of the few stores with fresh (non frozen) gluten free ravioli.Theres also a wide variety of gluten free flours, available in bulk, as well
Stopped here to buy a few things and ended up having a wonderful shopping experience. Parking here was super easy and I got delicious bakery items. For a small store this place has a ton of options for anything you could need!
The best
I really love this place. If youre looking for the holistic approach or just clean eating, this is the place, if youre looking to feel better for a healthier you, this is the place. The staff is very knowledgeable and the customer service is excellent. This is your friendly neighborhood store.
Excellent selection of organic and locally sourced foods. Good beer and wine options as well. You may end up paying a few dollars more than the normal grocery store but if quality is your main concern its worth it.
Great selection of vegan options, pre-prepared food and a bulk section!
Larger selection off local and all organic fresh produce.Huge selection of bulk products..spices,nuts,fruits,honey etcCan bring your own containers.Great selection wine n 🍺An amazing selection of good food and meat.
Great service!
Surprisingly very clean and organized during covid. They have a good set up to keep people safe coming in the facility.
This is such a great store to shop at. Become a member!
Too expensive for what it is...And people there are rude from stating from the cashier...
Very fun place to shop. If you want to eat healthier, they have great food. Very good selection of plant based foods. Has a good vibe, like old health food stores... before the corporate giants ran many of them out of business.
This place is imbued with sacred energy, and the pistachios are to die for!
Very nice place! A lot of variety 😊
Prices are a bit high but you can find some unique items not found in a typical food store. The have added beer and wine in the last year or so and have a decent selection of local beers. Sometimes the vegetables arent the freshest, but they also sell whole bean coffee with a dozen or more different ones from around the world.
Adapted quickly and well to COVID while still offering fresh food.
This is a favorite of the city of Takoma Park. I have bern a member for about 15 years. Their produce is always perfectly good and there is a wide variety of canned, boxed and bulk items. The wine selection is relatively new. Im always impressed with the way the store continues to evolve in support of the local community.
Good co-op. Most items are on the expensive side (hence the 4 stars instead of 5). They do offer good deals on some items, including a fairly extensive wine selection (so unusual for a co-op!). A $100 lifetime membership gives you a 10% discount on your entire purchase once a month.
Almost everyone that works at the co-op is very friendly and helpful, however on more than one occasion there has been one cashier who is very rude to me every time I come in. Ive worked in organic grocery stores and I know how some people can be, but my partner and I are very friendly to the staff and chose this as our main store to buy food so we can support local businesses. I was buying some groceries and this particular cashier asked me what kind of apples these were, and I said that I didnt remember, but I was sure the PLU was on it. And just to point out I said this is a very mono-tone non emotional way and she said back to me in a very aggressive way thats not what I asked you. I was like okay, and I limited my conversation with her as she very carelessly pushed my things towards me. She handed my receipt to me, and I took it from her but was just finishing up packing my groceries up, and she practically yelled at me excuse me! I look up at her really confused, was I suppose to pack up my stuff on the floor? I asked her am I not allowed to pack up my things she scuffed and looked away from me and said you can do whatever you want in a again very rude tone. This woman is very difficult to deal with. I have worked in customer service for over ten years and have had genuinely mean and horrible people yell at me for no reason, harass me, and test my patience with utter disregard for my own life and have just taken it because its my job. Nothing I have done and suspect other people have done warrants the disrespect she gives me. Me and my partner would like to keep coming here, but if every time we come in and are treated this way we have wasted 100 dollars joining. We really like the staff aside from this one person, but if people pay just to join, we should be treated better.
Good items and such friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Great quality produce/great bulk and loose tea selection, amazing value. Support local agriculture....keep up tkps coop!!!!
Great little grocery store, better selection on a lot of stuff at a better price than other markets like yes organic and whole foods
Mellow. Social D. Bulk items pre packed :)
Honestly Im really surprised at all of the great reviews. This co-op is ok. Most of the staff are not friendly at all, and do not know proper customer service. Clearly the bar has not been set very high by management. The fee for membership is outrageous especially considering the few benefits you receive. As someone who has worked at a food co-op, and visited more than a dozen in the past couple years, this one is last on my list. I think it plays a vital role in the community however, and hopefully reviews like this will allow management to see whats needed to really stand out in the community.
TPGC is a small, better- quality supermarket which is owned by its customers. Lots of fair trade, organic and non-GMO selections. Great selection of produce, chocolate and cheese, tho over all the store is a bit pricy.
People are super nice. Great selection. Their sushi is very good and they carry Suneen vegan sandwiches. I didnt give 5 stars because I think some of their produce and merchandise too expensive especially when compared to other markets.
This place is not just the hippy herbal crunchy health food store most people would think. They have a lot of great and interesting food. Meat section is excellent and they carry a bunch of local stuff. They have a great bulk food section including coffee.
Great organic products and good seasoning products. I often get my cheese and wine here because they have good deals during the week (specially Tuesday )
A solid grocery store but also a clever business. You should really consider getting the TPSS card, it offers a myriad of discounts to this and other establishments in the area. Not to mention it can be returned at any time and talk to them for more details. I highly recommend
I love this place!! They have great local products, great helpful people as well.
Love this place!! From day one 1999
Great bulk items, even spices. Good fresh breads and baked goods. Nice selection of gluten-free products. Very nice staff - friendly and helpful. Lobe shopping here.
This is a very health conscious store that has so much to offer the local community. Finally after almost 2 years from my previous review, I decided to join the Food Coop, and Im glad I did. Best decision I ever made for this year thus far for 2013.
They are great. Good and fresh genuine organic foods indeed. The cashiers are the nicest ever.
Truly a local food store.Small enough for. Good service, large enough to have what you need. Great coffee, bulk food, wine & beer selection.Walkable to most parts of Takoma park.
Great place and friendly staff ready to assist!
Fantastic store with a wide variety of beers and wine, and food that you cannot get anywhere else. Great customer service and prices are not bad.
Since moving to Arizona my family is missing this place like crazy. Truly a gem and hub for the healthy living community.
This is the worst food coop I have ever visited--in fact, I would call it a fraud. Not only were several important items out of stock, but when I returned the following month and then again two weeks later, the items were still out of stock even despite my letters to management. They also dont seem to read ingredient labels--instead of choosing the healthier dairy-free frozen treat brands, they go for items with the most sugar, wheat, and additives. In fact, they dont even carry most of the common health food store items found at other coops. When I asked for goat butter, I was told an order would be placed. However when I came back in many days later, they had not placed the order and the managers said they had no plans to do so. As goat butter sells out at Whole Foods, I am certain they would make money, but when I relayed my concerns to the board and management, I received a dismissive, reactive, confrontational e-mail. Why would anyone buy a membership here? The point of a coop is to pool resources from members to buy in bulk and save individuals money. They act like a super store in that they order what management believes will sell to the masses. I dont want to eat like the masses, so good bye to Takoma Park Coop.
Interesting items, with many healthy and interesting options. Naturally, quite expensive. But in my opinion, worth the price.
Great selection foods and most valuable products. Definitely a place I would recommend anyone to shop at.
Great Coop! A variety of fresh produce. Organic options.
This coop is fairly small with little room to maneuver in the aisles. But they have things that other stores do not, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I recommend the lacinato kale, which is hard to find elsewhere.
They are practicing good policies for this pandemic
Great food, even if its a little pricey. The coop has a nice atmosphere to it, too. It would be cool if they had a sandwich bar.
Friendly customer service great selection very healthy foods available
Hippie natural foodstore at its finest. Takoma Park is so leftie they wont allow a big box chain into the city center, but this is ok... and popular. Always busy.
Great selection like whole foods or any other grocery store with organic foods and most valuable products. Definitely a place where I recommend anyone to shop at.
Local co-op with helpful friendly staff. They serve breakfast items and fresh coffee. Vegetarian and vegan items sold here as well as wine. There is parking here as well.
Love it! Great selection on everything aside from frozen and/or gluten free. Great folks.
Love the coop. Full of good food and good deals, specially if you are a member.
Love the Co-Op. Not always the *best* prices, but the staff are helpful and I have generally been able to find what I am looking for! I also appreciate the community feel and the locally sourced just about everything!!
Even though the vegetables are pretty fresh, be careful with little worms, if you dont want to eat them as extra protein!! Lots of choice for fresh stuff, I even find purple peppers. But things are expensive, as or more expensive than whole food.
Gave this place a call to see if they sold household bulk items and the person who picked up was very short, rude, and just hung up. Sorry youre having a bad day M.
Great store. Good veggie choices. Large wine selection.
If you can get past people combing the parking lot I guess it is a good place
Friendly staff, family friendly shopping
Great place, Great variety, friendly and helpful staff, always fresh food and fast service too!
Great selection of organic and local groceries. Has vendor do product demos/tastings. open till 10pm. Kombucha on tap.
Great spot to satisfy your bulk foods list! Membership affords you discounts on your favorites.
Pricey but they have an amazing selection of high quality foods packed into a compact store!
Healthy organic food and yes they do have meat
Nice atmosphere
They have old fashion country seeded watermelon.
A bit pricey for me
Great for those who like co-ops and doing good through their spending. No need to be a member but discounts if you sign up!
Great long standing source of holistic groceries, health and beauty aids within a tight knit community.
Small store with a surprisingly large selection of products. They favor local produce over a wider selection, but I appreciate that they almost always have good bunch spinach.
Very lucky to have The Co-op in my neighborhood. Great healthy grocery items, especially organic and local produce, at reasonable prices for the DC area.
I am one of the a few that actually loves this place due to their pricing. I am very thankful for their products.
This is my favorite grocery store in Takoma and I love them even more because they now carry Ugly seltzer waters which are my favorite.
Bulk food. Organic produce. Vegan cake. Groovy.
It maybe a little pricey but the store has great food and a wide range to choose from
