I have to give Academy Sports props for being one store that consistently maintains a good inventory and still acts like a sporting goods store by having a wide variety of items for every sport, including firearms. They also had the best selection and price on steel toe work boots and shoes. I went to six different stores in Topeka and Academy was not on my list for shopping for the works boots I needed. I went in there to price a revolver and look at golf items. Just for the heck of it I checked out their boots and fount an entire row of protective work boots and shoes, from several different manufacturers. Additionally, their prices were by far the best out of the previous six stores I went to.I was impressed enough that I brought my son back the next day to buy him a new pair of work boots as well. Good job Academy!!

The store was clean and organized. The only issue was that besides the front-end which was well stocked with employees and the fitting room area It was difficult to find an employee if I had needed one. I did know what I needed because I researched before I went in but I still had some issue. I do understand staffing is difficult right now. The store looked excellent! Items were stocked and employees in the front end were efficient. I recommend just dont go on the weekend if you will need extra assistance. Great job Academy!

It was evening, and due to weather it was probably not their usual crowd; however, all the employees remained positive, attentive, helpful, and sincere!I was truly shocked as it seems when its slow, many times employees (at a variety of different stores) goof off, are inattentive, let their guard down, appear tired/bored/disinterested, and even act as if you are putting them out. That was NOT what I experienced at Academy, which was surprisingly nice to see for a change!The entire shopping process was impressive (despite being out of stock of a couple items I was hoping to purchase)!Their help, kindness, knowledge of product, teamwork, smiles, friendliness, and positive demeanor had me extremely pleased the entire shopping trip! I even asked the checker if there was a DM currently present due to the GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE and how put together everything was...lol.From the greeting I received upon entering the doors, the immediate and ongoing assistance, friendliness, cleanliness, and organization of the store; to the customer service and patience during checkout, this is a well oiled machine that ALL companies should desire to replicate!Thank you for the wonderful shopping experience!

Got forwarded here by a nearby competitor that no longer carries hunting/fishing gear. I recently bought a used compound bow and needed help getting started. Tyler was very knowledgeable and helpful in educating me about what to buy and how to use it. Glad that theres still a place in town that has archery supplies. My 4-year old son also found something age appropriate to buy.

This is a typical sport and outdoor equipment store with a wide selection of items: camping, hunting, fitness, boating, and fishing.I am leaving this review during the Covid resurgence of the summer of 2021.I would’ve given four stars except that the store did not have employees wearing masks.The Delta variant is spreading, and I would hope that stores would take it seriously for their staff and their patrons.

The workers blatantly ignored me and wouldnt serve me or be helpful in answering questions. Horrible experience.

We have shopped here for several years, and over that time, our experiences have varied greatly. We especially like finding good deals on shoes and clothes, and have in the past left the store with hundreds of dollars worth of shoes, discounted down to 50-75 bucks. That said, todays visit was thoroughly disappointing.We did find a pair of ladies shoes marked down to 11.98, but nothing else worth looking at was marked below $30, and a bunch of t-shirts identical to some my man bought for 5.99 each were priced at 9.99 each. Heres the kicker - after 2-3 washes, they shrank by at least 2 sizes.The service was friendly and helpful, but the selection and prices made the whole thing feel like a wasted trip.

No ammuntion to speak of picked up a bx of ammo i didnt need. Walking out the door was stopped accused of not paying for it. Custmer seveice was very slow but i got my money back and left will never shop there again.

Store manager Steve is a super nice guy. Called and spoke to him a couple of times about a donation for a raffle and he was very understanding and willing to donate. Had a nice conversation with him and hopefully helped him find a baseball league for his son in town. Nice staff all around

An employee, Im sad I missed his name, saw me and my son in the baseball department and noticed we needed some help. He stayed with us helping make sure we understood what we were getting. It would have gotten 5 stars if it hadnt been picked almost completely through. I know its the season but I would have thought they would be able to keep up. I did get most of what I needed though. The employee earned 2 out of those 4 stars

Not impressed with this store. Came to look for a bike that I saw online. There were several to look at, but only 2 brands for men. No blame, just nothing stood out that would make me confident to make a purchase. After driving 2 hours round trip, I was baffled. Maybe, just me.

Still better to visit in person, experienced several problems with their online services leading to in stock items being out of stock or forcing you sto ship to home instead of ship to store for free pickup like other companies will do. Why dont you carry Girls clothing and equipment for sports. Walls and Walls for boys very little for girls. This is the case every time. Tried to get a pair of Sofball pants today. NOT 1 PAIR of any color not 1. Your competitor Acadamey had Ripit. MIZZUNO and Addidas for girls. Very sad you dont take care of the girls like you do boys. We wont be back

Im giving 3 starts due to some unanswered questions I have about how their partnership works with safe streets. I want to be part of the program. Ive lived out here in the streets for the past 2 yrs. They have allot things that I dont the privilege to purchase due to my income.

Went looking for KC Chiefs gear for Super Bowl. Havent had much luck in the past with their selection of sportswear for women but was pleasantly surprised to find tmore choices,, and ultimately the perfect well-fitting hoodie, stylish and reasonably priced. My granddaughter found running shorts and a top as well. The fitting rooms were being sanitized after each use, everyone wore masks, and staff were helpful and friendly.

Academy is my go to store for camping gear as well as outdoorsy clothing. Their shoe section is pretty decent too.

A lot of great things but no ammo!

Low stock for a lot of products even before covid. They do have lots of workout apparel but different sections get picked over really bad and arent restocked. Baseball shoes in particular are very hard to find.

Mask mandate and social distancing not enforced at all. Store was packed and only two cashiers so there was a traffic jam of mask-less people crowded together. I had six people breathing down my neck while I tried to check out. Before I was handed my receipt another customer was ushered to the register and began setting items on the counter right beside me. I will never spend another dollar at a store that clearly cares more about the almighty dollar than its customers. Shameful.

Saw several employees with their masks under their nose. Unacceptable. When I checked out the man had his mask under his nose unacceptable.

I really love getting my shoes ; there is just every time I go I have to be subjected to being followed around and peekd at like Im stealing.... I know a few ppl but thats a feeling that a store should never NEVER EVER give a customer!! Ijs its hard enough during the pandemic to have money to spend shopping, just to be treated like your money aint good enough or non existent.

Lack of customer help from employees and it was cheaper for me to get items I was looking for from a larger competitor. Even had one employee tell me not to mention there competitor in the store when I was mentioning the price comparison. So needless to say I spent 240 dollars on a crossbow at Cabelas instead of 600 at academy sports. The employees were only trying to push highly priced items and there now didnt have a scope and the one I bought does. So Im needless to say happy with my choice and recommend shopping around for better prices.

We left WalMart because no one came to help us in sporting. We walked to the fishing/ammo counter at Academy and we were immediately approached by an associate who explained how to buy our fishing license. Academy cares about service.

Anything you can think of about sports and outdoor items. Priced a little high but they have everything.

Cashier was friendly. After 2 days of searching for sneakers, I finally found a pair here. They had a selection of sizes for the shoes I was looking for.

I went in to this store today wanting to purchase some new fishing gear, my yearly fishing license, as well as a new firearm and it seems as though neither of the gentleman working the fishing or firearm areas have been trained in customer service. I stood at both counters for upwards of 5 minutes each and the only time I was spoken to by an employee was when I was told I need to step away from the counter until my name was called (no one ever asked me for my name). I understand with COVID that procedures have changed but that doesn’t excuse you to treat people looking to spend money in YOUR store this way, especially when the man at the firearm counter wasn’t even helping another customer. After this experience I will be gladly taking my business to a different sports & outdoors store. If I could give 0 stars I would.
