Syrup trap is an amazing and unique place to grab a quick and satisfying brunch. The staff and owner are very nice and love talking about their craft. They have perfected the waffle and make a mean latté as well. I had the “second breakfast” waffle which comes with Brie and prosciutto and it was delicious. Keep it up syrup trap!!
Great food, but pricey. Signs say masks are required still. Service today was mediocre. I ordered quarter after 1pm (they close at 2pm)and it took 20mins. This tea was 5$. Still might go back for the waffle Sammy and recommend to friends.Edit: Thank you for relying, I’d like to make it clear my review is positive just trying to be informative. I believe the tea was a mistake which is totally fine. No worries everything was delicious as always.
Such a fun place. Clever menu item names for both their sweet and savory waffles. Pick from their standard or create your own custom waffle. They have a good selection of warm and cold drinks to go with your waffle, too. Currently, they have both indoor and outdoor seating.
While I was visiting Portland in March 2020, I had the pleasure of making a quick stop up to WA and visit Syrup Trap! First off, what an amazing shop and place to eat waffles. Service is topnotch, and it’s obvious that everyone there always has a good time.My favorite: Second Breakfast and Couve Club!
After just a one visit, this little brunch café has become a staple in my life. I ordered their amazing JG2 waffle, add strawberries. The fresh lemon curd was to die for, the waffle fluffy and slightly crunchy.Incredibly reasonably priced & located on Main Street in downtown Vancouver, close enough to all of the various offerings they have on the weekends.
Small and Local. Waffles are their specialty. They are not regular waffles, however they are painfully sweet, my teeth hurt. We order a sandwich and bacon as well. The bacon was microwave bacon, as in grocery store microwave bacon. The sausage and egg on the sandwich were microwave as well. Nothing was fresh except the waffle. I should have known when you cant side order some eggs. They have no decaf anything so I couldnt get coffee. They also have no kids menu, so two waffles and a sandwich was 30$. I like to support local but not like this.
Delicious. We managed to get a table outside and truly enjoyed our visit. I had The Couve Club. A great sweet/savory combo. The waffle was so good. And free refills on mugs of coffee? I’ll be back. ;)
The selection is good, food delicious, and the service was great. If youve never been, its definitely a place you should try. From the looks of all the other guests, Im thinking theres a pretty good chance youll like it too.
Food cold, coffee cold When u said thank you no answer back. I wouldnt tell anyone to go there price to high. $3.00 5oz cup $9.00 cold waffle. I can do better meal at home.
Waffles were perfection, staff were all fantastic, macchiato was absolutely delicious! So good. SO GOOD!
Excellent quality, safe and kind staff, superb flavors! Enjoyed the savory items and london fog tea and macchiato. Mine had goat cheese and lots of other stuff, and they also usually have strawberries. Special type of sugar is folded into their dough, as the owner showed us, waffles made the traditional way. Organic maple syrup was available too, and seats and tables were dry and covered. Cant wait to return for more!
Great food and had both savory and sweet options.
Their dishes are reasonably pricey, its a great way to treat yourself or someone else. Their waffles are the size is just right. it may be busy in the morning, and you may want to order to go if you dont like the smell of frying waffles. Parking is free on weekends and holidays(hours are on the pay to park box).
While a bit on the pricey side (especially since our Canadian dollar currently has a lower value than that of the U.S.), Syrup Trap started off our amazing food adventure road trip in the America splendidly. Warm and cozy, with interesting, delectable waffles, I fell in love with this place in a snap. From the time my wife and I walked through its doors, to the atmosphere and the service and finally the FOOD, this is another gem in the restaurant and diner world that I will never, ever forget. My wife had the JG Squared waffle, topped with lemon curd and organic blueberries, and she enjoyed every single, scrumptious bite. I myself had the Audrey waffle and it was just to die for. Who knew goat cheese, roasted hazelnuts, and honey made such a good combination?? It was delicious and paired really well with the side of bacon I ordered. I would give this place 10 stars if I could, but since I cannot, I reckon a well-deserved, glowering review would have to do. So here I am. Writing about this awesome breakfast place that you must try, try, try!
Good food, bad attitude & service. The waffle was better than expected, so perhaps get it to go lest you deal with the woman who shouldnt be working in customer service. She was sarcastic to me about covid when I tried to put the menu back where I found it because apparently I was supposed to know to hand it to her to clean, then five minutes after our food had come I went to check on our drinks and they still werent ready. She acted like I was inconveniencing her by thinking our drinks would have come with the food. So again, tryem for take out, or hopefully she wont be there to give you a bad experience.
All the food was executed with attention to detail as well as intentionality for excellence. The coffee was above average and the hospitality was well felt. Thanks for a fantastic experience on a beautiful day.
The Swanson Sammy was delicious, Service was fast and friendly. Loved this place!
The this spot is usually pretty busy, but popped in and had brunch this morning without any wait. Food came out and was super tasty. Clean plate for sure.
Incredible food. Staff were very sweet and helpful.
This place is very cute and quaint! You walk up to a counter to order. We went around 11:30 because apparently its very busy in the morning. There isnt a lot of seating, so I would keep that in mind. But highly recommended! Waffles were the perfect amount! We had the Audrey and second breakfast...very good!
Honestly people who gave bad reviews came in expecting ihop prices for art. This is hands down the best breakfast in the entirety of the pnw. The owner is a genuine and really good guy. The food is absolutely phenomenal and worth every penny. I wish they where open every day of the week!
Worst customer service ever!!!Can you be a little more courteous to your customers.Food is way overrated and overpriced.Wasted my $$ here.Don’t do it!!!
Food here is good and theres a variety of interesting flavors. Service is friendly. This is one of the few locations still imposing masks for all.
Amazing waffle dishes. Good service and family friendly.
I love, love the Syrup Trap! Food is amazing everytime and the staff is friendly and helpful! Thanks for having the yummiest waffles!!
Ate here on Sunday looking for a nice place for coffee and breakfast. And if you are a fan of waffles this is a nice place to go, they offer a variety of sweet or savory choices. Ordered chai lattes they were smooth, creamy, tasted wonderful. I must also say my blueberry and lemon curd waffle was fabulous.
The syrup trap was awesome!! I took my great aunt and mom for a birthday lunch and my aunt was so glad we went. It’s a smaller space, but they maximize it pretty well with modern furnishings. It totally has the vibe of an indoor trendy food cart. The staff was very friendly and the menu did not disappoint including my choice-The Leslie Knope (strawberries and whip cream). My Aunt got the bacon one, and my mom the Audrey with maple goat’s cheese, pecans & a caramel syrup!!They gave their type of waffles a name that was a mix with liege (Belgian waffles with sugar crystals) & brioche (they actually make a brioche dough that they put on the waffle iron 😋); they were so stinkin’ delicious!!I highly recommend The Syrup Trap as a new fun place to enjoy regularly!!
Hands down has to be one of the best waffles Ive ever had! Super friendly staff and great prices. Strongly recommend!
Seriously the best breakfast/brunch/snack place. My husband and I live two hours away but make sure that anytime we pass by this area or remotely close by that we stop to eat! The Sammy is my favorite breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had! I’d give this place 6 stars if I could!
Owner was awesome catered to us and this guy loves waffles, and it shows In his menu. we had the sandwich and it was worth the 2 hour drive one way. His waffles are different than what I had imagine and I wasn’t disappointed at all
Food & coffee were all good. Service was excellent. We had savoury waffles that were great. There are 4, 2 person tables outside that has awning cover. It was a little chilly at first but once we got the coffee and food we forgot the chill😁.
We tried this place on a Saturday morning around 10 am...Got a spot and food quickly. We had the second breakfast waffle, the Elvis Waffle & Leslie Knope Waffle. I have a pickly 9 yr old who only eats “plain pancakes with syrup & butter” step out of her comfort zone try & eat all of the Leslie- leaving no but behind. The atmosphere and food presentation were on point. Pricing was relevant for the area it was located in. We will be back to try other combinations when we are in the mood for a “sweet” breakfast
Really nice and cozy place nestled near downtown Vancouver! Came here during their happy hour and it’s 20% off mon - thurs! They have a cute kid play area too. I got the waffle with the prosciutto and pear and it was actually really good and filling and was sweet but not overwhelming and had a variety textures! Overall it was a fast service didn’t wait any longer than 10 minutes and would come again!
Absolutely LOVE going to this place for a weekend bite. Some of THE BEST waffles Ive ever had with a great selection of toppings to choose from. Their lattes are incredibly nutty and not too sweet, which makes a great pair with my favorite waffle of theirs, the Wapple Pie.If you live in the Vancouver area and havent eaten here yet, what are you doing?
I loved it here! We came here on a Wednesday at around 9am and we were the only people there. We both got a cold brew, and I got the Leslie Knope (love the name) with lemon curd added, and my boyfriend got one of the waffle sandwiches. It was truly one of the best waffles I have ever had. Sure the prices were kind of high, but so are those at places like the Waffle Window in Portland, and I liked this place so much better (I actually went to the Waffle Window a couple days after to compare, so my opinions are fresh). The place is so very cute, there are succulents on every table, and cute litter decorations throughout, and being the only ones there, there was plenty of room for us! The two people working there were incredibly kind and welcoming, and full of great suggestions for us. I cannot recommend this place enough!!
5 star taste, the food is delicious and unique. 3 star value, I should be full at $12/person and I wasnt.
Ordered to pickup through their website. Order was ready to go at the estimated time and was spot on with everything. I recommend the black coffee here as well, its good quality👌Have recommend to friends and will be ordering from here again. Excellent service.
Have only been here twice, but so far, so great. First time I went, I got the Anne Fran (sp?) and was simple and delicious, topped only with chopped crispy bacon and maples syrup.Went today and had the Wapple Pie...I had been craving apple pie anyway, and this was essentially an apple pie on a waffle. The only thing that would have made it better was if I had vanilla bean ice cream to go with it instead of whip cream. After I ate that, I knew I wanted another waffle, but didnt want to seem like a pig, so I got another Anne Fran to go, pictured.Great place.
Honestly so overpriced!!! The waffles are okay, but both my boyfriend and I weren’t impressed and we ended up not feeling that great afterwards. We each got 1 waffle and I got a cappuccino and it was $30... and the cappuccino is supposed to be “traditional” and it’s a small cup filled about halfway of espresso. I’ve had a cappuccino in Italy, fully “traditional” and not only was this not it, but they don’t come near to charging $3.75 for it!!! Literally crazy. I was excited to try a new place but the money was not worth it.
Great service and delicious eats.
Why is this the BEST WAFFLE I HAVE EVER HAD! I don’t know how to upload a pic but believe me you need to come here.
Waited nearly 40 minutes, no food. Went to check on the order and evidently they never sent it or something. No real apology or sense of urgency. They half offered to remake it. At this point my Girlfriend is ready to go. When we asked for a refund we were told they would “text the manager”. Ok....What a waste of my time money energy and effort. Would not recommend.Update 10/4/20: Refund was received. I would like to try again and update my review accordingly as we were very excited to come.
Small, local business thats firing on all cylinders. Awesome good, reasonable prices, friendly staff
The waffles were delicious and the portions were great. I ordered the Anne Fan w/ Peanut Butter (It had soooooo much bacon on it, almost too much.) and my wife ordered the Wapple Pie.I would have given this a 5 star rating but...1) The coffee could have been better.2) Its a really long wait time (although, it is worth it.)3) The cafe is pretty cramped and they didnt have a restroom. (They may share a restroom with the salon next door. If so, it wasnt clear and there was no visible signage.)4) Their website could really use some work.
Ive only tried the sweet waffles, havent ventured to the savory ones yet. The Leslie Knope (strawberries and whipped cream) was absolutely delicious! Waffle was crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, perfect. Though, I might recommend The Syrup Trap adds more whipped cream in honor of the namesake for this waffle, as Leslie Knope would certainly want an extra helping of the goods ;)The macchiato was very good as well. Its an authentic macchiato served in a demitasse, so dont expect a big mug with a lot of milk (get the latte if thats what youre looking for!) It also came with a small shooter of sparkling water, which was refreshing.Overall a good experience and Im excited to go back to try more from the menu!
Damn fine waffles. Go ahead, get something savory, you are worth it. Probably
My friend and I checked out syrup trap for the first time. We often travel to Portland to go to waffle window and we’re looking for a place closer to home. This place did not disappoint! The place is very cute inside. I ordered the waffle with turkey, havarti, and bacon with raspberry preserves on top.
I had the Ron Swanson. Probably the best thing I have ever had. He would be proud. Lol
It’s very dry and grainy. Weird tasting waffles…
Super delicious waffles
Yummy waffles!
Started with the very friendly owner?/staff? explaining the basic liege waffle. We ordered the Annie Fan and the Second Breakfast and some of their very good drip coffee. The Annie Fan was very very good. The generous amount of bacon wasnt crispy but was very good. The maple syrup worked with the bacon to elevate the entire experience. The Second Breakfast was yummy! The brie added a rich creaminess. Again a generous amount of prosciutto topped the waffle. My only suggestion, not complaint, was the pear. The fan of sliced pear looked pretty but was not designed to make sure you got a balance of the 4 flavors in each bite. Once I cut it up and put it under the prosciutto it was perfect!Syrup Trapdoor definitely worth a return visit.
The old lady and I found this place to be exceptionally scrumptious! The owner was very nice and accommodating!
The very best waffle I have ever eaten! Initially, I thought it was too expensive--$15 for waffle, espresso and tip--but after eating it, I changed my mind. It was well worth it. The ambiance was that of a waffle house and I smelled like a waffle for the remainder of the day! They had both indoor and outdoor seating but the place is relatively small. At 11:30am there was no wait and several tables were open. They do not serve Redbulls or sodas here.
The place is called The Syrup Trap but then they charge you for syrup? You have to bus and clean your own table/pick up food/coffee at counter. We sat down and the table was dirty so we wiped it ourselves. This would be fine, but then they expect you to tip? What are we tipping for?We ordered 3 waffles and two coffees. Total is 46.00. We were beyond shocked. How could waffles cost as much as a steak dinner? Very overpriced.I gave it two stars because the waffles were tasty, but we were so put off by the price and the atmosphere that we really didnt enjoy them.
I love this place man, you bored with the same old diner food for breakfast whenever you go out? Want a unique twist on one of the best breakfast items? ( everyone loves waffles) check this place out. I love the Wobble, apple pie waffle add that prosciutto on top? Forget about it, early bird gets this worm.
I had the 2nd breakfast. It was so good. If you take a bite of the waffle by itself you will be amazed at the flavor it has all on its on. I will be going back. Cant believe it has been open for 3 years and I hadnt heard about it.
Great waffles and so many types
The waffles here are amazing. Docking a star because the sit down area is not family or large group friendly at all. It was awkward to navigate and find places for my family to sit and eat. The monkey waffle was great and so was the pear. I would go back but take out only.
Where to start? I was so excited for a new breakfast place to try, especially one with Syrup in the title! That quickly faded when I ordered and was asked do you want syrup with that? Its a dollar extra ???? Now I know where they came up with the other half of their title Trap. Next, I asked for a little cream for my coffee. I was informed that they could give me some milk but they dont give out cream because its too expensive! The food was average at best.Seating was cramped and uncomfortable. You have to clean and bus your own table.I think giving one star is generous. If I could give a half star, I would
If I could describe this place with 3 emojis💩💰💰1.Bland2.Overpriced3.Overpriced
This is a refresh take on a favorite food and a great addition to the downtown restaurant scene. I had the Audrey which had goat cheese, hazelnuts and honey and it was fantastic. I highly recommend trying this place and their variety of clever, fun waffle fare. My only critique would be that they told us syrup for our waffles would be an extra charge. When syrup is in your name, make it your thing and pass it out freely. Otherwise, this place is great and I will visit again!
Wonderful little shop. Its small and popular, so be prepared. Boyfriend and I had Elvis and Second Breakfast waffles, and they were amazing! Also had a wonderful glass of chai cold brew!** Dont complain about syrup being extra, you dont need it!
They focus on one thing, and they do it very well. Casual location with friendly service and great waffles. Highly recommend!
*Ive been back a few more times and have found the espresso to be more consistent. Its not one of my favorites in Vancouver yet but definitely getting better. As they work out the kinks, I hope to see continued improvement. Im increasing my review from a 3 to 4 star (update).*Ive been here 3 times now. The quality of shots is hit or miss. Great the first visit, so so the second and I threw the third visits drink away. The waffles are good and the ingredients are high quality. It would be nice if the savory ones were a bit larger. It didnt feel like a meal and I cant justify $20 for two for lunch. I will go back in a month and see if things are better. Hopefully, I will be able to move this from a 3 to a 4 or 5. *Ive been back a few more times and have found the espresso to be more consistent. Its not one of my favorites in Vancouver but definitely getting better.
Delicious waffles! Love their flavor combinations.
First time we took our grandson for breakfast, great friendly staff & AMAZING! waffles from the basic to some pretty elaborate & tasty options. A definite must try, we will be back
They have really great food and coffee. The atmosphere is nice with seating outside as well. One of our party could not have the waffle and tried to order the breakfast sandwich without it. The server at first said no then figured out she could just put it on the side. There are not really any other food options here if have dietary restrictions.
The bacon was not even slightly crispy. It was only semi cooked, rubbery, and very greasy. Im guessing since the shop was closing in 6 minutes (as the worker told us, and how we could take our order and leave) she didnt have time to cook it thoroughly. Overpriced, $10 for a waffle with undercooked bacon is too much. And the waffle wasnt even a full waffle, had parts of it missing. 1st time there and definitely not impressed. Will keep going back to waffle window as they make good waffles.
Waffles are phenomenal! Great service. Cool concept. Nice for a quick bite, the place is a little small so it can get a bit crowded in the weekends. They even have a little kids play table, which I thought was a neat idea.
