We booked Black Beard for the Bio Bay tour. It was amazing! All of their employees were very knowledgeable, friendly, and contributed to an overall wonderful experience. We learned a lot about life on the island, the hIstory of the bay and the island, the dinoflagellates, and lastly about different constellations, stars, and planets. The kayaks have clear bottoms, and this adds to the overall experience. The moon had set before we got to Mosquito Bay, and the bioluminescence really shined. I plan to book again with this company in the future.

Our snorkeling trip with Damien was really fun. Damien takes the time to make sure everyone feels comfortable and safe, first and foremost. He is an expert diver and he knows all the spots to find beautiful sea life, including sea turtles and sting rays. Damien was an awesome guide - my wife was deathly afraid of snorkeling - until she met Damien. He was calm, patient yet very effective in convincing her to do it. Within 5 minutes of our dive at Green beach I saw a huge spotted ray, and soon after found several turtles and thousands of colorful fish. An amazing day - we highly recommend Bleackbeard and Damien!

We had a great time snorkeling on Punta Arenas (Green Beach) with Damien our guide. The water was a little murky but we could see plenty of fish, a spectacular spotted eagle ray with a 5 foot wing span and 15 foot tail, a manta ray, and even huge turtle feeding just below us. Damien took care to give us the best tour which was the highlight of the trip! Great care to ensure our time was the best!

It was one of a kind experience at bio bay luminescence - mosquito bay. Unforgettable and unbeatable. To top that Reed was an excellent provider and was witty and smart.And those cup cakes that his girl friend Jessica Baked were out of the world. Undoubtedly the best cup cakes we ever had. Can just go back for the cup cakes.They made the day special for my wife by decorating the van and the cupcakes :)

We had an incredible experience with Damian our tour guide. He kept my honeymooning wife and I safe and also showed us some local resident sea turtles and amazing fish and coral under mosquito pier. My wife was a bit afraid of some jelly fish (there were only a handful which were easily dodged) however Damian did an amazing job keeping her calm and happy throughout the experience. I recently spent an amazing day on Vieques - and went snorkelling off Playa Punta Arenas with Blackbeard guide Damien Ortiz. What an amazing experience - shoals of fish and sea turtles so clearly visible, and so close to shore. Incredible island too. I dont know if hidden gems still exist in this age, but Vieques may just be one.

Awesome Scuba Diving experience with the coolest of instructors. They were never in a hurry and took the time to really teach us what we were doing so we could be enjoy our two 45 minute dives!Oh, and they dont charge for photos. That is a great sign in and of itself!I highly recommend it!

Awesome experience with Damien snorkeling at green beach. He took great care of our party of 6 which included two visually impaired people and 2 small children. I would recommend Damien for anyone and hes retired military which is definitely a bonus in my book.

Rachel at the shop was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They worked hard to accommodate a drop in reservation while still getting us back in time to make the ferry. Went on a snorkel tour with Damian and had a blast. Saw a bunch of sea turtles, so many different fish, an urchin the size of my head, an eel, & more! Cant recommend enough!!!

What a fantastic tour of the biobay. I could not stop looking at the water and the one hour just flew by. I would highly recommend Blackbeard as their prices are reasonable and the tour groups are smaller. They are very knowledgeable and the tour is a once in a lifetime experience.

Ryan and Cuba tonight were amazing. My friends and I are spending our second night in Vieques and were looking forward to this. The roads were bumpy to get back to the bay, as all PR roads are and the check in was interesting as there wasn’t a set in stone location, we just went up to the van and asked where we were supposed to go but other than that the trip was amazing. The knowledge and love Ryan and Cuba have for their jobs is inspiring. Would definitely let recommend this company.

I contacted the office by email after booking their Bio Tour. During research I found nothing indicating that there would be no ferry transport off the island after the tour, meaning youd have to spend the night, (which would be all fine and good, however we already had pre-paid for hotel arrangements on the main island). This little footnote was only communicated with the auto-email that was sent out by them regarding the Bio Tour details- no where on their website, (and really difficult to find anywhere else online) does it state reliable information regarding the accessibility of the island after dark. The tour company called and offered a refund due to the circumstances. So, just be aware, for any such tour. *This review, of course, in no way reflects the quality of the tour itself.

My wife and I dropped in on a last second snorkeling trip and could not have been happier! Damian took us to Mosquito Pier and showed us the ropes. The visibility wasnt perfect but we got to see three sea turtles and a barracuda, so Id call it a successful day. Everyone at Blackbeard was very friendly and accommodating and we will definitely recommend them to anyone going to Vieques.

Let me tell you about the experience we had with Rachel! We went out to Mosquito Pier in Vieques to snorkel and realized we didn’t have a pool noodle for one of our party who can’t swim well. Rachel was there with one of her dive tours. We asked if she had a pool noodle by chance, and she gave us a blowup dive indicator. We were not part of her tour group but her kindness made our snorkel able to happen. Then, as we were all getting out of the water, even though we had not engaged her services, she offered to show us some cool stuff to look at under the water.As if that wasn’t enough, she then took our group to the ferry pier so we wouldn’t have to wait on a taxi!On our next trip, we will 100% book a trip with Rachel and her shop!! It is clear that she loves sharing her knowledge and excitement of the sea with others!

Black Beard made the tour easy and made us feel safe. It was pitch black, pouring rain, and storming yet we still were able to have the most incredible time. It was actually ideal whether for seeing the bay since each rain drop lit the bay up. Our tour guides Jordi and Ryan were extremely knowledgeable yet hilarious and made it an incredible time. Black beard costs a little bit more than others, but I have heard that a portion of the proceeds goes to the Boys and Girls Club of Vieques, so wonderful! All in all, we had an amazing time and would recommend this to anyone coming to the island!

We took the Bio Bay tour which was fun but the tour guide talked too much about the biology, etc. It was good to know but more time just playing with the water would’ve been better.Went by the store this morning. Just because they say they are open doesn’t mean they are really open.

This company was very helpful when I wanted to schedule a trip last minute, They were able to give me a private dive lesson since there were no groups going out. It was awesome, we saw plenty of sea turtles, octopi, and interesting fish.

Here goes....In April I initially Contacted this company to book mine and my husband’s Advanced Open Water — they were extremely slow to respond from the beginning, ignoring emails and phone calls. Finally after the 4th follow up on my end I landed a phone call with the oh-so-elusive employee — she said sure! Those dates are perfect we’ve got you scheduled and sent me a brief email confirming the dates. “Great!” I thought and continued on with my life ... every week or so I would ask to confirm the time/days.... no response. Then I started Calling.... no returned calls.Well the vacation was booked and so we decided to go and just hope they would call us back (after all, the phone call and email said we’re confirmed, right?)So we buy the package, study for the advanced open water certification, and board the plane to PR. The DAY WE ARRIVE, we get an email saying they were canceling our 3 day appointment due to “scheduling conflicts.”I confronted then about this over email so then they claim it’s a “family emergency” and they’d be out of town. Well, we swung by their business while in town (and their home) and they were, in fact, present and doing business. So basically this company screwed by fiancé and I out Of $1400 and failed to reimburse us and, in the process, insulted us and became very aggressive when we confronted them for their bad business practices. PLEASE be careful with this company. Maybe we were just unlucky but we also lost almost 2k because of this “business.”I recommend going with Sarah from Crystal Clear in Vieques!! She was so sweet and helped us find a way to still enjoy our trip after this awful experience.

Rachel was an amazing instructor, very knowledgeable and very patient with me (as I had problems with my buoyancy. )I did a D.V.D course and decided to do the full PADI since the experience was so fantastic!I had considerable experience snorkeling but none diving and the introduction scuba went really as well as I could have imaged it could go. My daughter and I dove with Rachel and Ryan over three days while staying in Vieques. Each day was a two tank dive with Blackbeards equipment (no problems). One day off a boat and two from shore. Rachel and Ryan are wonderful, fascinating people with good hearts. They are committed to learning and teaching. I felt happy and comfortable with them leading. Turtles, rays, eels, octopus, lobsters, shrimp, dolphins, etc. were all on the menu. A great addition to our Vieques experience.

PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY DO NOT GO WITH BLACK BEARD! Ever since the Hurricane, Ferry had some schedule change and all other company on Vieques will gave you at least 24 hours notice and even reschedule it for you.BUTBLACK BEARD does NOT CARE. We follow the instructions on their official website(photo attached). 4:45 Ferry was canceled ever since the hurricane. ANGIE, the lady work for Black bread said it is not my responsibility to update the website and let you know. We send three emails and called office multiple times right after we knew the Ferry was cancelled. We were not able to get a hold of any of them. We even had the owner of our hotel get a hold of them 2 hours before the tour. They couldnt wait for us, they couldnt do refund or anything. They couldnt even get a hold of us, not even a phone call.We waste our hotel, hours of ferry tour, I have seasick keep throw up the entire time. We are here all the way from the state and came here specifically for the BIOBAY. We did not get to see anything. And it is all because of their official website was misleading us, their is no way for us know Ferry is canceled as a outsider, as a travellerWe knew after Hurricane some of the microorganism was not visible like it was, but we still flew all the way from the STATE took one week vacation booked tour, trying to enjoy the tour and support the reconstruction. But we are so disappointed right now. BLACK BREAD ruined our vacation and still charged us.

Great dive shop. I did a shore dive with the owner Rachel and saw some turtles, octopus, and countless fish. I stayed in Esperanza on the other side of the island and they picked me up AND dropped me off back at the hotel after the dive. We also did the kayak tour of the biobay though the shop and I cant recommend it highly enough. The water just glows like something out of a Disney movie. Dont leave Vieques without seeing it.

The Vieques biobay tour was fantastic. Knowledgeable guides provided the perfect amounts of science (biochemistry, astronomy, environmental nerdieness) and fun. Would do it again any day.

Bio bay tour was magical! Our guides (Yordi and Ernesto) were knowledgeable of the bay and its history. Black Beard Sports seems like a well oiled machine...highly recommend if visiting Vieques.

We had booked three days of diving in advance, but the water was very rough when we arrived and visibility was non existent. Very sensibly they decided not to dive on the first two days -- but actually figuring this out was difficult. The owners of the dive shop are nice, but proactive communication is not their strong point. We were happy to go diving on the third day -- the visibility wasnt great, but the kids did see a turtle. I was getting a cold and my ears couldnt handle the depth changes.We had also booked to do the kayak tour of the bioluminescent bay on our last night on Vieques. We were to be picked up outside the dive shop at 7:45 pm. At 8:00 pm we called the organizer who told us that the driver would be with us shortly. At 8:30 pm we called again, only to be told that if we could get across the island to the EL Blok hotel (in Esperanza) by 9pm, then we could go on the next tour. We did manage to find a cab (who overcharged us) and get over there. Only to be told that the 9 pm tour was full. We tried the other tour operators to get on their 9:30 pm tours, but they were all full as well. A cab ride back to our Airbnb in Isabel Segunda (with the correct fare) and that was our last night.My recommendation is not to plan to do anything on your last evening or last night in case it gets screwed up.

We used Black Beards to tour the biobay. The tour was very informative and one of the cheaper ones on the island. They close the biobay during full moons, so keep that in mind when scheduling your trip to vieques. Much better than the biobay in fajardo.

Fantastic diving experience of two dives for 120 dollars in Mosquito Pier, full of marine life (turtles, a large barracuda, lion fish, lobsters, puffer fish, octopus ...) and above all a great instructor, Jennifer, who He showed us around and explained the Ceiba of Vieques.Totally recommended, a 10.

It says it is open every day but we have already gone 2 times and it is closed; the calls do not enter.

They canceled my tour without notifying me, they still have not made me the refund that they told me that it would take 2 days, they do not answer emails, calls do not come in. Ive been waiting for more than 10 days.
