The best pot pie EVER!! I live in Newport News &Happened to be in the area shopping & stopped in theCafe for a delicious apple pie. I decided to takeTo take a few chicken pot pies home for dinner and theywere definitely a hit. I will be back & next time make thedrive just to pick up dinner!!
Such a delightful place! My mother and I stopped by to wait for our table at a restaurant near by. We grabbed a pot of tea and a few things to nibble on. It was so wonderful. They have us actual tea cups and a teapot. The food was wonderful and there is consitant traffic. You can tell the place is loved.
It’s NO wonder this place has near perfect ratings. The extensive training, detailed diligence, and personal care that go into such quality French style baked goods is more than most but the most focused baker would apply. The decor is a crisp blend of formal, French, and feminine. Everything is absolutely spotless. We tried chicken spinach crepes and pot pie. These are definitely not your chain restaurant comfort food. Instead, they are fresh made, miles beyond such mass produced offerings. The blend of flavors is distinct and spot on.Few Americans can produce a perfectly smooth, European style cappuccino, but the proprietor, Elena, knows espresso as well. I’d return just for that.Do not mistake Elena’s quick, efficient manner as unfriendly. She’s kind and warm, given the opportunity. Macron Tart is a reflection of her hard work and baking brilliance.I’ve saved the best for last: the baked goods. The macaroons are artistic and flawless. The tarts, a dream. Keep in mind, French style is not as excessively sweet as American baked goods. The emphasis is more on quality ingredients, technique, and fabulous flavors. My berry tart was exquisite, full of ripe berry flavor, split between two meals. His lemon meringue received his praise for its scrumptious balance of tart and sweet with perfectly toasted, fluffy meringue. I think we need to take up running so we can return often.
4 stars and heres why - I love food. I adore deserts. So everyone who follows me know i travel lot of places to try diferent handcrafted unique delight cute items lol . I got in the man said hello hes was running like a headless chicken 3 tables inside 6 people total and me . Everyone was fine sited and all . I took about 5 minutes to take my order. Cause he was alone. runnign 3 tables I guess the owner (chef) whos pregnant was on the back doing 💪 (Looked like that) . Ok so for service 0.5 the macarons I got the package of 6 cause I just wanted to try exclusively the macarons. So I got . Lemon, chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, peach (I think) almond. And the inside its like a marmalade with its delicate and elegant plus delicious. The feet (of the macaroons) where perfection. Flavor color and SMELL WOW THE AROMA WAS AMAZING 3.0 score for food . The -1 🌟 was on the use of sanitation (The gloves the person serving us ) he touches my credit card, the macaroon, the trays of the other people, his jeans and other utencils. So I was kind of hoping he would use some king of instrument or wrapping to pick up the macarons. It felt unhygienic for me. So this score is 0.5Thats all. Pretty much summary its come here cause its very good prices are hight but I guess flavor compensate. Its not for me to visit again. But I recommend the macarons. The latte its $4.00 Im not paying that sorry 😐. And 12 macarrons are 35 after tax . 6 macaroons 17 after taxes.Have a great week. Happy mothers day!
Took my daughter for high tea. It was beautifully set with outstanding pastry. The macaroons are some of the best Ive come across. Definitely stop in and try it out!
One of the best places I have ever been I plan on coming back so much! The people are amazing and so sweet, the pastry’s are amazing and the atmosphere sends you into another world! 10/10 recommend!!!
High Tea was disappointing. The tea was terrible and there was not way to choose what kind you wantedit was already in the pot when we arrived and it was super plain. The price for two was high for the quality of food I received. The quiches were undercooked, and way too eggy. The macarons were alright, the cake ok, the lemon tart was fantastic. The baked items on the counter looked good, I would recommend coming in and trying those individually and save your money.
I stopped in this morning for brunch and had a great experience. I ordered a a few macarons, a latte, and a croissant sandwich; everything was delicious. It was not very busy while I was there, so I had the pleasure of talking to Elena for a few minutes. She was very nice and made sure to check on me and other customers periodically. I am very much looking forward to going back to try more delicious items off the menu and taking one of her classes in the future.
The store is quaint. The food was yummy! I had a lemon meringue tart. The price was right.
I stopped in for a birthday gift and was very pleasantly surprised by the shop. Beautiful, very clean and staff was very helpful. I cant wait to go back and get some treats for myself :)
Just dropped in for some macarons and Im so glad I did! Service was quick and friendly and the macarons were fresh and delicious!! I will definitely be a repeat customer. ❤❤
Made an unexpected stop in for a quick bite before heading to a meeting. The owner was very helpful and pleasant. I bought a berry tart and a Quiche, both were Delicious. I sampled her lemon macaroon, so good!! I will definitely be back for the wonderful treats!!!
Stopped in here for breakfast. We tried the quiche, tarts, and macarons. Everything was so delicious. The woman who runs the store was very friendly and helpful. Wonderful experience and would recommend if youre in the area to stop by for some treats.
Sorry the quiche was bad it’s not even close to taste like it and the only thing good was the macaron I regret spending my money there but at least I know I won’t go back there 😕😕
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! She makes the best macaroons. I have Celiac Disease and theses cookies are my favorite and naturally gluten free. I am so thankful for a place that makes them so well. My husband gets me them for any special occasion and the Macaroons are always amazing. The Peppermint are my favorite, but typically only available during winter, but I haven’t had a flavor I didn’t think was delicious. Thank you!!!
Very good macarons. Lemon daquoise was delicious. Latte and americano was very well done. Decor is tasteful and classy. Excellent experience.
Skeptical but impressed! I typically don’t like macarons because of their taste and texture. First and only time I’ve liked them was in Paris. I bought the sampler as a gift and described them to the recipient as supposedly having a thin crisp “shell” breaking way to a chewy interior and finishing with a creamy center... but encouraged lower expectations. Turns out the macaron was EXACTLY that! (You can see the various textures of the mint chocolate in the photo below.) It was DELICIOUS! Mint was so fresh. (For the price of each macaron, I had joked that it better be the size of a burger but after tasting it, I recant! 😉)
My GF items were delicious, but my friend’s quiche was bland & undercooked. (She ate just one bite & left the rest). My friend left 2 of 3 macaroons behind as well as half of each of the 2 tartS. I had made reservations in advance by phone for the high tea as a gift. As I had been there prior I expected the same quality, but this time the owner served a plain quiche on preordered “High Tea” while a beautiful bacon & tomato quiche sat in the pastry counter. BUT the worst part was she that she didn’t care! Even though I was a repeat customer she served my friend something that was tasteless & not edible. She could have said many things & I would still be a repeat customer, but instead she said it was her choice to put the plain quiche on her High Tea offering and walked away. My feet are walking away & will not walk back!
🍰 Beautiful storefront and they have cooking classes for kids and adults. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur the owner offers a class on how to open your own store as well. 🥐everything made from scratch even the jams inside the tarts.
Absolutely delicious! Chicken salad croissant is great and ALL of the pastries are phenom!
An outstanding French pastry shop selling macarons and tarts. Had the meat pie which had a excellent flaky crust, pretty much an upgraded personal pot pie. The lemon meringue tart was excellent as well. Also picked up some macarons to go -sooo much better than any store bought ones. Gonna have to take a pic next time of the bakery case to show their selection.🙂
For Other gluten free options, you need to call 24 hours ahead. The Macarons are the best Ive ever had!
Wonderful customer service and now becoming a regular customer. Absolutely delicious!
Perfect macaroons. Melt in your mouth, gluten free. My favorite is lavender vanilla. My daughters favorite is smores.Update: Today I tried the beef pot pie. The crust was so flaky- it was outstanding!I love this place♥️
The owner is so kind, thoughtful and helpful and the macarons are amazing!
We ordered a Lemon Meringue almond cake for my mothers birthday. Granted we were a little late on the request but they still obliged and said it was no problem. The cake was dry and there was no lemon or any flavor at all in the cake/meringue ect. At $65 what a joke, so disappointing!!!
I do not live in the area but every time I visit VA beach I must make a stop here. I have been at least four times and never had an issue. The interior is cute and inviting, the owner is friendly, and the macarons are exquisite. Support women owned small businesses!
The woman running this place is awesome and somehow the food was better. Made me think I was in another country.
Terrible experience booking or confirming any classes with the owner. Very rude and unprofessional. I ended up missing a class with her which I gave her a call the day of to let her know I missed it and to request a new date. She slapped me with she can’t do that and that she just cares about her time and her profit more than her customers. Conversation did not go well as I spent a lot of money on this class. Took a claim with my bank to compensate for her horrible customer service. Her croissant bread wasn’t bad but macarons aren’t great either.
Best macarons on the planet! Sweetest owner! I travel from Yorktown to visit her...
AWESOME experience! The Chef/Owner was great! I signed up for the Macaron class, and when the other customers did not show up for class, she was gracious enough to do a one on one class with me. I loved it! I got special tips regarding making them. I’ve sampled the lemon tarte, and other delicious pastries offered! This quaint French Pastry shop is definitely worth a visit. I intend to take more classes as well! Check it out for sure! Loved it!
Some of the best macarons Ive ever had, and they have so many different flavors available!
Went in for the first time today and it was overwhelming to see how beautiful everything looked! I was even more surprised to find out that they serve tea! Macaroons were perfect, not to sweet, just delightful!
Beautiful place to enjoy. The experience makes everything worth while. The food is like fine gold .The owner is friendly, down to earth and very good at what she does.Definitely a must try. Worth every penny.
This place is amazing. Macarons are incredible
My husband and I were walking around Towne Center fairly early today and decided to pop in. So glad we did! The owner was there and was very nice. She explained that she had several additional flavors of macarons baking and that everything is fresh. We picked out six macaroons in five flavors and they were delicious!! We will definitely return the next time were in the area.
The macarons were so soft and yummy!
They are open
Delicious coffee, cute decor, and super sweet staff. This is the perfect neighborhood coffee shop! And their quiche is the best!
Love This Neighborhood French Bakery! I cant wait to attend a cooking class.
Our family absolutely loves this boutique French pastry cafe! The cappuccinos, quiches, and croissants ( our favorites) are absolutely delicious. We enjoy the atmosphere and the owner, a wonderful neighborhood treasure.
My co-workers and I went to lunch and decided to stop by this place to get some dessert. We all did not like the attitude of the owner when we walked in. Given that it was a Friday, we were dressed casual, we got vibes and looks from the owner that made us feel like “we couldn’t afford her macaroons “. When it came to ordering the “macaroons” the flavors were limited, and she was not sure what flavors were what. She cared more about self loathing about how she makes everything and she is a small business owner. I would justify that if the customer service was up to the same standard that she holds herself. Two of my co-workers felt like they had to buy something so that she wouldn’t think they couldn’t afford her outrageous prices. Needless to say I do not recommend this place, and everyone should read the reviews before spending their money there. No one should feel un-welcomed when they walking into a place of business.P.S.: I ordered a box and asked if it had one with pistachio....and when I got back to the car it was Keylime. Just proves she had no idea what she had.
Great macaroons!
Great service and the food is excellent. All made on site with fresh, natural ingredients. Very happy customer!!!
Long story short, owner tricked me into buying a $28 Apple tart claiming it has the least sugar out of everything for my mom’s birthday who is diabetic. When I first came in, she said only the jam on top and apples have sugar. When I tasted it, it was VERY sweet. My mom is trying to lower her blood sugar for surgery. When I asked for a refund she refused to give it to me and refused to give me nutritional facts and ingredients on her products. I am currently in search of a lawyer to sue her selfish self and her sorry excuse for a bakery.
When I walk in to a french bakery I expect a wide range a french pastries. I walked in a there was a few tarts and macacrons. Where is the tarts, breads etc. How can you stay in business?
Best ham and cheese butter croissant sandwich I have had since I was studying under an amazing pastry chef myself! Definately dont pass this place up!
I would love to give this cute place a 5 star review but alas I am not. This new spot has a great location and crisp attractive interior. I lunched recently with a friend and during the one hour we were there between 4 and 6 customers walked out and left because the one employee present was in the kitchen preparing plates. The front in often unmanned. Food sits out on platters all day and is warmed as you come in. The food, lunch itself, was not bad. The service was very slow, disorganized, and in flip flops in both the serving area and in the kitchen. Lastly, the macarons were a fail. Many were broken in the display case but I went ahead and ordered one. It was extremely dry and simply broke when you bit in. The filling was sticky and lacked any flavor. If you love macarons, they are far superior at Hummingbird Cafe. Or if you wanted petite desserts or cookies try Amelia’s desserts by special order in Chesapeake. This is not the place for service and don’t waste your money on the macarons.
Good atmosphere and kind owner! Delicious macarons!
Lovely place. Great brunch all day! Macarons are yummy.
