Music on the Hill - The Hill’s own neighborhood music shop. Pretty cool.I’m a new client at Music on the Hill and I’m a very satisfied customer. My wife and I look forward to coming back, taking lessons, and recommending this neighborhood music shop to our musically-inclined or curious friends.Their prices are often just as good (and sometimes better) than their competition. The customer service/expertise is spot-on. And, you feel good knowing your money is going back to a small, local business. Frankly, it’s an investment in our community and that’s almost reason enough these days.Give them a shot. They don’t have everything, but they’ve got a lot and it was more than enough for us.

What a lovely place to not only purchase an instrument but learn how to use it! We started with my granddaughter learning the violin and moved on to mommy taking guitar lessons. Very homey atmosphere and great with kids of all ages! When I finally have the time I want to learn how to play drums!

Since this place added a guitar tech and luthier, I have taken in three guitars and received perfect setups and provided great service in general. So glad to have these folks in Capitol Hill instead of having to give a conglomerate like Guitar Center my business!

On March 29th around 5 pm Me and my friend wanted to check this store out we are not from the dc area and we drove during rush hour traffic took us 40 min. But where we arrived I was keen on checking out the guitars and my buddy wanted to get a a quarter in jack. After we went in we an employee Middle Aged female was being rude as soon as we walked i; she made us feel very uncomfortable and eying us down the whole time. My friend even purchased a product and yet she was keen on getting us out the door and I was in the middle of considering purchasing the fender Stratocaster Mexico made but yet she was nudging for the door. After being in there not even for 10 min she came up and told us we had to leave. And so we abided by what she said and left. But will I go back again ? No how can i go into a music store and spend over a hundred dollar on anything without taking my time on inspecting that product.

Terrible customer service. Spend your money elsewhere.During the most recent Xmas period, I wanted to support a business in the neighborhood so I sent my father in law here to purchase a few pricey items. He ended up with an experience that left him feeling belittled and shocked. The woman working was beyond rude and dismissive. He politely asked a question and she told him she didn’t have the time to answer despite her not doing anything, and ultimately she ushered him out saying again in an annoyed manner that she didn’t have the time to help him and wanted him to leave so she could let in a customer that she knew outside. I can’t help but wonder why someone would treat an elderly person so rudely and just assume that they weren’t there to spend as much money as another customer. I will not be supporting this business in the future, and I suggest you spend your hard earned money elsewhere-where customer service matters and you’re treated with basic decency/kindness.

The entire staff was really friendly. The vibe at the store was also more relaxed than Music on the Hill which made the experience pleasant.

Had an amazing purchasing experience here and came away with a gorgeous acoustic. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, quickly found me the right size and a great fit. Very good COVID precautions. Will be back for my next major purchase.

I live in PA, but we were visiting DC while my daughters school was having a 30-day music challenge of students practicing their instrument every day. Not wanting to lug a cello in our small car to and from DC, I called Music on the Hill and explained my unusual request. Luke was kind enough to set aside a cello for my daughter so she could practice for 10 minutes and get credit for playing that day. Not only that, but one of the employees helped her tune the cello. Thanks for your dedication to young musicians!

I had an enjoyable experience buying a guitar here. Their shop setup is really aesthetically pleasing and their selections were all from very quality makers. The staff were very helpful in finding something that fit me by giving me a lot of options to work with. I also enjoyed them showing off the instruments with their musical skills.

Both my son and daughter have taken classes here. Lindy has been able to work with us in a way that has always made me feel that she has had our child’s best interest at heart, with thoughtful suggestions that we haven’t received elsewhere. I have also seen Lindy suggest to parents that they remove a child from a class for the child’s own benefit, all of which suggests to me a massive amount of integrity. Enrique was a super violin instructor as well. I would recommend it to any parent.

My whole family loves Music on the Hill! Lindy is a terrific resource on all things music related. We’ve had great experiences with lessons (clarinet and guitar) and when we wanted to upgrade to a wooden clarinet, Lindy & Luke found us a quality used instrument. If there’s something we need and they don’t have it, they’ve always been able to get it in short order. Music on the Hill is everything a local music store should be.

Big fans-whole Family (2 kids, 2 parents) has taken a variety of lessons here-guitar, piano, drums, bass guitar, ukulele, and voice lessons. Teachers are great and patient with fidgety toddlers up to the seasoned dad rocker. We have also had good luck finding sheet music and special ordering instruments not in stock. Christmas caroling and Camp have been great too. I cant imagine the Hill without Music on the Hill!

Virtually the only musical instrument store in DC, which is in itself shocking. Its geared towards more popular tastes in musical instruments - such as instruments common in Rock music. Its a bit small, but thats the nature of stores in a city with property values like DC. The staff I interacted with was very friendly and helpful. They let me play their guitars, too - Although Ive never been to a store where this is not the case. They also have paid lessons and free sessions.

Cant speak to their lessons or guitar supplies, which seem to be their mainstay. I was looking for piano music and selection was very limited so I didnt find anything I wanted. Woodwind and other marching band supplies are pretty non-existent. I play clarinet and they only had the softest reeds, a few books for learners, a cleaning kit and that was it. I know its a small space, but I would love to have a music supply store locally for all instruments.

Was looking to buy a backup bass guitar and the store owner was really helpful in recommending the perfect model for what I was looking for. The store itself is an attractive store with a good selection of instruments, sheet music, and accessories, and nice spaces for music lessons.
