In March, I hosted a small baby shower for my best friend at Idle Hour. The space provided an amazing backdrop for a little cutie themed baby shower. Food was fresh and delicious. The vibe was chill. And the staff were some of the loveliest, most accommodating, most kind group of young women Ive ever encountered!Needless to say, the shower was a flawless event and everything I had dreamed of in my planning!Kudos to Edie and the team at Idle Hour for their professionalism, courteousness and generosity!
Mom and I stopped in for breakfast and were we pleasantly surprised! The food was very good and the prices, very reasonable. Maybe just a bit friendlier staff. We were not greeted and did not know where to sit or if we could. Need some direction for your guests...and your staff. Other than that a wonderful place!
Great food! I had the egg salad sandwich and I will be having it again! This restaurant is a great place to stop for lunch. So glad to have a place like this in town!
The ambiance of the building thats about the only exceptional quality. The food is okay. The pricing is low but cash only.We were told to seat ourselves, but the only tables were dirty or corner tables with one chair. No staff bothered to clear the tables. When we got someone to she seemed annoyed, and was equally annoyed when my husband asked of he could get over easy eggs a la carte. You would think hed asked for something inappropriate the way she looked at him.No napkins were brought to the table. Only the ones left from the previous occupants. As the tables around us emptied they didnt clean any of them either. They had plenty of staff but most of them didnt look like they were even out of middleschool and seemed dazed and shy like they didnt know what they were supposed to do.We were in and out fast. The only one who was warm towards us was the front cashier with the long dark hair.
My new favorite restaurant in West Bend. The food is delicious and well priced. The decor is old and but very charming.Unfortunately, I do have one concern...perhaps room for improvement for the future. They leave their front door wide open while open for business. It is actually a very welcoming European touch and provides a nice cross breeze thru the restaurant. However, throughout my whole meal, there were 3 pesky flies who kept landing on my food, drinks and table. The waitress and cook noticed me swatting at them and they did their part by swishing them away, but to no avail😣. Perhaps a screen door on the front door someday would help?Cindy
Just happened by The Idle Hour or Two. Fantastic food and so quaint! Super friendly staff. A must stop!
Fantastic local spot. Great for breakfast, lovely patio in warm weather. Cash only, super affordable and kid friendly
The Idle Hour hosted my bridal shower. It was an absolutely perfect space! The service was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was excellent. Delicious food and great staff. Thank you, Idle Hour!!
Atmosphere is as great as the food. Wonderful warm sandwiches! Cash only... no a problem... just be prepared. Love love
What a delightful find. So charming. And the food was simple yet *really* tasty. Outdoor seating was especially lovely. Note: cash only
A great place to be with a group. We enjoyed!
One of my favorite spots in West Bend! Delicious food, amazing prices and an outdoor patio thats extra private! Fire place in the winter with amazing breakfast and lunch options! Whats not to love! 🥰 Plenty of Frank Sinatra to listen to while you dine! Love it! 💘
Met the owner of this restaurant . I have never met a more rude and abrasive person in my entire life. I will never step foot near here again. And if this is how business is conducted then that’s a complete shame
Excellent. Food was delicious. Charming inside, kind of reminded us of being in Door County. Highly recommend!
Reuben sandwich is the best, yes it’s better than those places in Milwaukee.coffee mugs are comfy... made in Poland.
I have been on a journey for many years (at least 20) in search of the best Ruben sandwich. My epic journey has finally come to find... that the best Ruben was in my own town the whole time. This is a cozy, adorable eatery that will take you back in time. The menu is fantastic as well as the food. I like to come bring the kids for cherry Pancakes with butter and honey in the mornings. There is an area to also eat outdoors. Please bring cash, as credit cards are not accepted.
Love the atmosphere in this darling place. The historical building with all its decorations and the food and service compliment its charm very well.
Small Breakfasts/Lunches in an historic building w down home atmosphere ❤️
Nice, quiet place to eat lunch, love the atmosphere and old wooden floors.
Absolutely a most exquisite first-time stop. Great ambience, superb hospitality, delicious food, a multitude of most satisfying beverages, & very reasonable prices. This venue is great for relaxing, meeting with friends, just about anything. Check it out, youll be glad U did... Were going to make Idle Hour Or Two a routine stop...👏👍🇺🇸🙏
Cozy atmosphere. Great home-cooked food.
Nostalgic setting, good food at good prices.
Idle Hour is always 5 Stars! There was a nice fire 🔥 going. Service and coffee was great 👍
Food is always superb. Atmosphere is nice, but could use music.
Quiet, cute location. Fresh food! Indoor and outdoor dining. Wonderful people and reasonable prices!
Food was wonderful. I had a chicken salad sandwich, hubby had ham and cheese, and son had rueben. All were so good. Wait staff was attentive and very pleasant. Would highly recommend this place.
An excellent little place in West Bend. Menu not extensive, but food is well prepared and delicious. Place has a very historic feel and look. Their scones are scrumptious and the coffee is hot. There is a little spinet piano tucked away in the corner and I wonder if it ever gets played.A great place to idle away and hour or two!
I love coming here with my mother and my daughter. The food is delicious and different from what you might find at other places. The decor is fantastic! Great care has been taken to choose interesting antique accents throughout the restaurant. I love that there is always a jigsaw puzzle available to place a piece or to just got fun. They offer hand painted coffee mugs for sale as well as home made scones and cookies. Truly delightful!
Super cute restaurant! Make sure you bring cash as they dont accept credit cards :) Employees are great, friendly and attentive!
The best food and the best atmosphere, always a treat!
Love this place! Note: cash only. Great place to spend a little time watching people go by during the Saturday morning Farmers market. Great tasting egg in a basket.
Love this super cute restaurant.I enjoyed the outdoor dining area. Food was excellent. I loved the chicken salad on whole grain bread. My kids 9 and 12 plus my 16 year old sister in law all enjoyed the grilled ham and cheese. They made it plain as requested for my youngest. Came with chips and little fruit. Reasonably priced.Loved our friendly attentive waitress. Tomato florentine soup was very tasty!
Great staff and owners.. Food is phenomenal
Great food. Friendly atmosphere.
Such a beautiful and cozy place. With the best adult grilled cheese Ive ever had and great service!
BRING CASH!! We thought we could pay with credit card and they dont accept any credit card payments here. They do offer I Owe yous but we didnt feel comfortable doing that so we left and came back to pay them. The good was very simple but good. Their hot chocolate was really good.
Bring cash or youre not gonna eat or drink. Beautiful old pressed tin ceiling kind of place with a large fireplace thats particularly inviting on cold days. On warm days be sure to sit outside in a luscious green space. The foods pretty darn good, too.
The Idle Hour is a lovely place to relax and have lunch. Food is great, and a quaint atmosphere. The staff and the location just makes you feel at home. I do wish they accepted cards- theyre cash only- but this place is totally worth a trip to the ATM.
I have been to this place alone in the middle of the day in the middle of the week. I have been to this place on the weekend with friends. I have had lunch here. I have had coffee. I have had tea. I have had beer. The food is good. The coffee is good. The tea is good. The beer is good. The service is good. The prices are good. The atmosphere is historic without being pretentious. I keep trying to think of something to balance this review. I cant come up with anything.
They have good sandwiches, but we just got turned away from being seated because it was 6:15pm and they close at 7. Is this real life? Ive never heard of service like that. Never again.
This is, by far, one of my absolute favorite hidden gems in West Bend. Its built out of an Old Paper Mill and they keep around a lot of the old architecture and Machinery as Decor. I love how casual and family like this place is. They are attentive to your needs but they do not overly dote on you. The aesthetic of this place cannot be beat and it is one of the most comfy and cozy places to have a hot drink in the middle of winter.
Small menu, great choices! All had sandwich - one veggie, one BBQ pork one Rueben. Everyone happy! Two had soups.. very tasty. Two had decaf coffee, fresh and very good, especially with their home-made peanut butter cookies. Will come back to try sandwich on salad no bread!
Very reasonable and great service. Held a small wedding reception there..
Daughter had her husbands birthday party there. Very good food, place is warm and cozy.
Best food and tea in west bend. You can easily get an entire sandwich, fruit, and chips for $4.50 or less. The best reason to come here is how beautiful the renovations are on this historical building. All the tips they get go to the restoration of this stylish 1900s cafe. I would eat here every single day if I could!
Nice quiet place go relax. Great food. Old school building
Relaxing atmosphere. Good service. Awesome food
The food was good and the prices were very reasonable. Great place to stop when going to the farmers market on Saturday. The service was very slow with the waitresses standing around talking, but we will go again.
Fantastic local business with great homemade food and Wisconsin wines and beer. Took the kids here for a late lunch and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly.
Fantastic nostalgic lunch spot in WB. Delicious food and inviting atmosphere :)
Really nice atmosphere, waiters were kind and food was quick. Portions were small, but the food was delicious. Great place for a weekend breakfast with family.
When walking in, you feel at home, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Service is friendly and makes you want to come back. The food is simple, yet filling. It really reminds you to enjoy the little things in life. Just remember to bring cash because they do not take cards.
I asked if i could eat by the puzzle and was told yes, then i could hear a conversation about me from the front counter, then it was suggested i move to a table. Being alone I felt awkward and out of place. The soup was good. Place looked clean. At the end I found out I couldnt use debit or credit and had to drive across town to get money to pay the bill. Not the best experience.
We stopped by on a recent Sunday around 10 am. The hours on the door indicated they did not open until 11. Turns out the area churches take all parking spaces on Sunday mornings. [They are open at 8 am weekdays and Saturday]Greg, the owner saw us looking at the menu in the window and opened the place up early for us! The first thing he did was bring over a basket of eggs, and informed us these came from his farm on the way in. His Ruben sandwich was a mix of beef from his own property and a local butcher.Very reasonable for the quality food and excellent conversation. Nice Wisconsin beer and wine selection. The building and interior were tastefully restored by the owner himself. We will certainly visit again very soon. Great alternative to the crowds in Cedarburg. A true farm to table restaurant.
I am so glad I found The Idle Hour. My boyfriend took me after having lunch here (and was impressed). I have been to MANY restaurants... and this place is not only tasty, but their food is priced right, too. My boyfriend and I ate here for less than $10 (together), splitting a sandwich and each getting soup. Although I usually feel if you pay more, you get better food, The Idle Hour is a rare exception. If you need more convincing, take a look at every other review this place has gotten. :)
Great food (mine was with Gluten Free Bread), drink and atmosphere. My friend and I were looking for a warm, cozy place that we could have tea or coffee and possibly a nice glass of wine. We sat near the REAL fireplace with our wine and hot sandwiches! We try to get together monthly and this will be the place we now meet up.-Remember to bring cash they dont accept cards
We play chess here two or three times a month. Cozy atmosphere, friendly folks, and great food. Love the homemade chicken salad and soups made from scratch. Highly recommended.
Food was good service not so much today. Usually great service but finally had to ask for our bill
First time here and loved it. Food was excellent. Decor was welcoming with a historic warmness. Prices were just right. Try the Ruben was very tasty. Will definitely return.
What a cute and welcoming place! Stopped for dinner with friends and glad we did! The coffee/tea mugs are ADORABLE, and they have many options. Got the bbq chicken sandwich with fuit, and it was really good. Server was super nice, and the food came quickly. Atmosphere is welcome and perfect for conversation. Will be back!
Always enjoyable. Great sandwiches. Nice, cozy, quiet atmosphere. Very nice people too!
My girlfriend and I have been here twice and love it. There is usally only one or two people working, and they are always very friendly, and like to joke around. There is a small menu that includes soups, salads, sandwiches (hot and cold), coffee (delicious), and wine. The food is VERY good. The prices are also very reasonable. The atmosphere is very low key, and relaxing. There are some old magazines that are very interesting to read (from 1940s) Overall a great place to have a conversation, or sit back and read a book or newspaper with a cup of coffee.
A lovely place with quaint decor and delicious food. Bring cash! No credit cards here. Dont come looking here for gluten-free or health conscious.
Great atmosphere, food, drinks, and employees. Honey crisp apple wine with the chicken salad sandwich with toasted bread is amazing.
Food is always good. Service is great. Love the warm fireplace and cozy atmosphere here.
Not very many options for breakfast. I asked if they could make fried eggs and they said no. Eggs, toast and hashbrowns were seasoned way to much and very buttery and greasy. Three eggs is what u were supposed to get but that wasnt three eggs more like one and a half. Mandrian oranges out of a can put on the same plate as my other food.. yuck! How can someone not be able to make breakfast? Worst breakfast I have ever had, not going back but thats good to know..
I love the Idle hour. Great place to go for homemade, healthy, delicious food.
Nice comfort food for lunch. Local crowd chatting comfortably over coffee. Very pleasant staff.
A nice place to have a quiet lunch. Our server was very nice.
One of my favorite cozy little spots. My daughter and I had a great tea date.
Beautiful restaurant in a wonderfully restored historic building in West Bends historic downtown. Nice cafe food at good prices.
Went for the first time tonight. Beautiful building and outstanding food. Definitely going back!
Charming. Prompt service. Interesting sandwich options.
Friendly, quite and cozy place. Had a little breakfast with Real Maple syrup. Just like home.
The best coffee shop atmosphere you will find in the West Bend area. Excellent staff, food and pricing.
Great spot for breakfast food or sandwiches. Prices are very low
Love their food. Great prices as well.
No wifi, no espresso, simple coffee wine and beer. Yummy sandwichs. Bring some board games or a puzzle if you are looking to disconnect and relax for a bit.
Best Ruben around for miles as well as the other sandwiches and soups weve tried. Very reasonable prices and our server CAITLYN is a sweetheart.
The staff can be a bit too much but good overall.
Fast, friendly service. Good food at reasonable prices. Quaint setting.
Terrific atmosphere, delicious food, good coffee, and friendly staff.
Very nice relaxed atmosphere, great food, friendly staff.
Great sandwich and soup choices. Nice selection of wisco wine and beer.
Family owned place, the guy is great. One thing! They only accept cash.
A hometown treasure! What could be better; a tasty breakfast, followed by the Saturday Farmers Market in West Bend!
Great tea, coffee, and food selections! Always delicious. Always friendly people.
Best local local place to spend an hour or 2. Getting popular and crowded with awesome services.
Our meals were great, tasted like homemade food. The only downside was you need cash, no credit or debit.
Good flavor, not much food for the price.
Great atmosphere, excellent food, and friendly service
The food was amazing, however the service was beyond horid. I was quite disappointed.
Awesome homemade food! Try the hamburger casserole for a nostalgic trip!
Inexpensive and tasty food, beautiful restored interior, and awesome coffee mugs.
Nice little place. Great sandwiches and soup. Bring cash!
Historic building. Unique menu and good food.
I live this place! Its the perfect spot for meeting friends & having great food!
