Now that I turned 66 I thought it would be a good time to start joining my friends on the BIG.. However, I have never had a pass or owned any downhill gear. Hard to believe.. So, having very limited downhill experience, I knew I needed to go somewhere that I wouldnt feel like an absolute fool. I needed to feel comfortable asking many questions without feeling embarrassed or humiliated. I needed to get the right fit, for everything. I started with my head: helmet and goggles. 12 boxes and an hour later... Stella, at Great Northern Cycle and Ski had me in the perfect head protection. A Solomon QST CHARGE MIPS. Now to match the goggles to the helmet.. What?? Gaper gap? With Seans approval, the final choice came down to a pair of SMITH Squads, complete with the drilled advice - NEVER touch the interior of the lens! We practiced changing lenses, however, Dow walked through and claimed All you will ever need is the FOG lens! Its a small town.. I had a jovial first experience and am now ready to return for my boot fitting later this week. Thanks Great Northern Cycle and Ski!
I popped in, looking for an ebike and was pretty much ignored. Ok, it happens…but it wasn’t busy. When I finally was asked if they could help me, the attitude was apathetic and when it was obvious they didn’t have anything suitable in stock I got a shrug. I’ve had a lot of customer service jobs and I never treated my customers like that. Talking about options or discussing ordering issues could have resulted in a sale or at least a better review and word of mouth. No worries, the other bike stores are better. All of them. Two stars because the dogs are sweet.
Yo, if you have ever rolled into ANY shop (bike shop/coffee shop/barber shop) and felt like you were at the back of the line when there was No line, youll understand what its like to have that weird invisible feeling. It causes you to think long and hard about the success of such a business. You may think: If it wasnt for us, (the customer) your doors wouldnt stay open. An employee may even come across as unsympathetic or unimpressed with your patronage. Its crazy sometimes. This was NOT the case at Great Northern Cycle & Ski. What a fantastic and welcoming vibe. It was as if Every employee was aware of every customer/guest. I entered the shop and was welcomed by Management, Mechanics, and Pups within seconds of being in the building. Martin approached me immediately, and was super helpful. He addressed an issue I was having with my bike, and I was back on the road in under 10min. with a complete understanding of what the next tune up steps would be, when I was ready and had the time.Being a dude with an older bike, this reminded me a lot of a time when I went into an amazing phone repair store and the owners and techs were just as helpful and attentive to the senior with a flip phone as they were to the person with the brand new iphone. THIS is what was up at Great Northern Cycle and Ski! GN you guys are killin it. A philosophy I like to use in business is: People over Profit. When you do that, you win Big. What you put in for what you earn is such a sweeter deal. Thanks Martin.Referral GUARANTEED!
Great All around shop! The Prices are lower than most bike shops I’ve seen, and the employees are very friendly and really try to help you out. It’s a plus that they have coffee too! They also know a lot about skis, I was pretty impressed hearing an employee really finding the very best product for a costumers situation.
Folks here are very friendly! I came in looking for a simple item, and they had it. They are very welcoming and the place just has good warm vibes... maybe its the smell of new ski boots or maybe its the coffee! keep it up!
Saved our trip! Did a full brake bleed in 30 minutes, fastest turnaround time I’ve ever had in any bike shop. Staff was friendly as well
Fantastic ski and bike shop! Ive been here many times and its always a great experience. Great selection of products. Friendly, informative staff. All the staff skis and bikes so I know I can trust their recommendations. 11/10 would recommend!
Love this place. Incredibly nice and helpful staff. We were able to get what we needed, and most things were on sale!
What FANTASTIC service! They patiently went through a dozen different boots until they found the right ones...and then, because they were just a little-off on the fit - they ordered the next size up (b/c they didnt have it in-stock) and held them for me until I could get back-in for a final fitting! No up-sell, just solid advice on where to get the best bang for my buck! Thanks to everyone there - youve earned a customer for life!!! :)
Seeking a great bike/ski shop with super helpful and knowledgeable staff? Look no further. These guys are super nice to work with and make it easy to want to support a local business. My go to shop in whitefish for sure!
Just got some new shoes here. Super pleased with the price and the selection and the service. I had actually just been to one of their competitors in town a few minutes before and I’m so glad I left.
Great Northern is a tremendous place to get ski and bike gear, as well as a great stop for delicious coffee. The team here is extremely friendly and helpful and will do whatever it takes to make your visit fantastic.I bought ski boots here and was amazed at the level of experience and knowledge that the employees had! I’ve had plenty of trouble with boot discomfort in the past and was extremely pleased with the boots I got. What amazed me even more was the help I received from Willy, one of the “boot doctors”. He helped make my boots the most comfortable I’ve had and improve my skiing experience!
Im out of state and worked with Willie to purchase a bike. Man these guys are professional, trustworthy, and just an outstanding shop. I had a great experience and would recommend doing business with them!!
Super helpful and knowledgeable team!
I destroyed my feet last year with improper boot fit and improper lower buckle adjustments. I was referred to this shop by a local podiatrist....walked out with a boot slightly tweaked for better fit and an education on how to avoid future problems and pain. Went to Big Mountain yesterday and skied PAIN FREE! I can’t thank the young man enough for his help. ALL of my future ski needs are going to be at GN!!! Thanks for all the help!
After setting something on the counter to purchase I had to ask them if I could buy it and they treated me like I was interrupting their very important conversation. News flash, youre not cooler than anyone. You never know who youre talking to and these guys just dont care to find out. Glacier Cyclery was very friendly and helpful to me, try them out!
I must have wandered in on a bad day. I wanted to get my bike tuned today March 17th and was suggested to go to Glacier or wait till April 4th for it. On the way out however, one of their their friends who was trying up their resources was using an electric pressure washer from GreenWorks. We talked briefly, its quiet, stops when you release the handle, and has no fumes!! I thanked him for the info and decided this was why I wandered in. Probably never going there for a tune, but will hit Wheatons or REI for my tune tomorrow. Odd how disappointment can lead to a good outcome if you look for it!!
This shop is great. Whenever Im in Whitefish to ride I stop in to get the new trail beta. They have very competent, pro mechanics, coffee rocks and they are super friendly which I appreciate.
Great people, great service, friendly atmosphere and run by an incredible local couple! Great Northern is THE place to go for high end boot fitting in the valley.
Im overdue in posting how awesome the shop and its team are. We planned a week of guided riding based out of Whitefish Bike Retreat. We quickly learned our dropper seat posts needed set up - and GN came to the rescue, making our vacation truly epic! And they carry my fav ... Yeti!
Great shop, excellent mechanics. I dont trust my bikes to anybody, having been a previous bike mechanic I do all my own maintenance except for the occasional weird stuff that requires tools or knowledge that I dont have. They have rebuilt my fox suspension fork, re-riveted in my bottle cage rivets on my aluminum cannondale and fixed an old cartridge bearing mountain bike wheel. Turn around time is quick even in the summer.
My favorite shop in Whitefish with the friendliest staff!
Highly recommend Great Northern for ski bootfitting. The staff was super helpful and knowledgeable. Ive had bootfittings several times in the past and this was by far the most straightforward and affordable. I brought in brand new boots and within an hour or so they were adjusted and ready to go right in time for a solid powder day!
Willy and Stella always provide prompt, friendly service with a smile! Theyll treat your bikes like their own and have good recommendations
The shop was great, friendly folks, and the bikes were in great shape.Hooked us up with a couple of espressos from the side bar and we were good to go....Thanks guys
Tom was the best guide ever!! Everything was perfect!! He made it an extraordinary mountain biking adventure.
Super helpfull and friendly. Great atmosphere!
Thanks, Great Northern, for coming to Whitefish Community Library and helping with our (very rainy) first annual Bike Rodeo. Youre awesome, and hope to do it again next year!
Tom has spent roughly 8 hours working on my stinky feet to get my ski boots dialed in . Cannot say enough good things about this place
Love this shop, great people, thoughtful, fast and friendly.... excellent Espresso available as well
Super friendly and expert staff. You can totally trust these folks to get you set up right.
