Super cute place and like some other reviews said, its like you have found a hidden gem!I was looking for a new coffee experience and this was just the place I needed! Upon arrival I was greeted and asked if ai had any questions, baristas were very friendly even while super busy and service was quick!I ordered a cold brew and the coffee of the day. While I am normally an iced coffee drinker, the coffee of the day was what I continued to enjoy and needed to return for. Also, that vegan brownie was ssssoooo delicious!About the environment, I appreciated being able to read about the individuals who were supplying the coffee beans from around the world. Personally I am a little bias as I have been abroad to Guatemala and visited La Finca where Campamento Alto is made, so it was a little piece of another place I call home. While indoor seating is provided, I preferred to go outside and sit at one of the picnic tables located in the little patio though their are garden chairs provided in a grassy area to view the train tracks (chain link fence separates in case you think of taking your kiddos!)
Hyperion has the best coffee ever! I get their mocha, not too sweet and, in the summer, their cold Nitro. And always with a biscotti or cookie. Love the staff and love the nice places to sit outside.
Hyperion Coffee had lived up to its hype as one of the best Roasters in Michigan. It was tucked away in an old building and going to it feels like you are uncovering a great secret. The staff was friendly and the coffee was well worth the hour drive to try. The town was cute and nice to walk in even in less than 20 degree weather.
Great coffee. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Even smelled great!
I started ordering beans from Hyperion a couple of months ago. I was looking for a local coffee roaster that delivers a quality product and in a timely fashion. Hyperion has exceeded my expectations several times. They ship within the next business day and I typically have my order in my hands within 2-3 days from when I ordered. They take care in ensuring the order is accurate when they ship it which is visible on the packing slip. The coffee is great! I will definitely keep ordering my beans from Hyperion and hopefully one day will make it to Ypsi to check out the coffee shop in person.
Regular drip/brewed coffee is consistent each time - flavorful, fresh, and hot. They also have the best soft vegan cookies!
Great location and seating options, shop was clean and prices are reasonable. The friendly barista made a fabulous coffee!
Most scenic morning coffee spot. Its wonderful to sit by the railroad tracks and enjoy the great espresso they roast :)
Knowledgeable staff, and very fresh coffee. Cant wait to visit again.
Unknowledgeable about their own coffee beans, unfortunately thats why we were there & we purchased 5 bags. They had all the time in the world for their friends but not for real customers & service, even making us wait to finish their personal conversation then becoming visibly irritated when we asked questions. I may even agree with the review that mentioned them not being welcoming to people of color/different cultures after this experience. We also ordered 2 drinks with oat milk & received 1 drink with whole milk which was met with confusion when we informed them it wasnt oak milk & asked where the 2nd drink was. We have dairy sensitivities & found the mistake by taking a big swig of whole miIk.We heard good things about this place but based of this experience we wont be back.
Went here to meet with my pastor one on one. Didnt try The coffee. Just heard the staff gossiping. Not professional at all.
The best coffee Ive ever had anywhere. So spoiled to have them just down the road. Small batch, ethically-sourced coffee roasted and brewed in a completely unpretentious environment. I remember the first time my wife and I visited the barista asked if wed like to share a Chemex. Having no idea what that was, we both said a what?. He patiently walked us through the whole pour-over brewing process, explaining what each step did proudly. The flavor profiles on some of the beans are really unique, prices are reasonable. Hyperion has really set my wife and I on a journey to brew better coffee and for that were thankful.
My husband’s favorite coffee spot, we love sitting outside at this hidden gem.
I was tired of highly rated but TRASH decaf whole bean roasted coffee from Amazon. Came here and tried it in an americano and in a latte. Both were good. Bought the beans for French pressing and I am SO impressed. No chemical taste. Low acidity. Wonderful nutty flavor. Absolutely STUNNING. Will be getting all beans from here from now on.
Have some serious dissonance about this place. Ive been here 5 or 6 times over the last couple weeks and have never felt particularly welcomed. I would not consider this a welcoming place for people of color.Re: their coffee—their coffee is easily the best in the 734 region (Hence the 2 stars). Nonetheless, they have lost my business.
Good coffee. Knowledgeable, friendly workers. Consistently above the average.
Cool spot to grab an espresso and sit outside or walk around Depot town. Good beans for purchase. Able to pull a good shot every time.
Great coffee, hip location in Ypsi. We enjoyed sitting outside under a large tree.
Mocha latte was amazing! Really cute place, and really friendly employees. Tied for my fav coffee place (with Cultivate across the street)
The coffee was REALLY good and the aesthetic of the shop just feels right.
Ray Ray hooked me up with some Prometheus and Rebel Gesha and let-me-tell-you after sipping on this beautifully crafted dankness I immediately threw my store bought coffee in the trash. I have found my hearts coffee, will buy again. 10/10.
Their coffee is good, but overpriced in comparison to other third-wave coffee shops. For example, they charge $4.75 for a 10 oz. iced latte -- at most other shops, the standard size is 16 oz. for an iced drink at that price.
My favorite coffee shop in Ypsi. Always great coffee and lots of options for fresh roasted beans.Recently started selling excellent pastries as well.Good selection of equipment as well.Only negative is they dont serve flavored lattes, which is fine for me but can be a turn off for anyone who needs something more than milk and sugar in their coffee (hint: you dont need anything here! The coffee tastes amazing black!)
Pretty poggers coffee. If I could give fractional stars, Id give it a 4.20
Great coffee!! Great service. Great atmosphere. What more do you need?
Nice vibe considering theres a global pandemic. Id love to sit and sip my coffee with a good book. The greatest of cappuccinos in southeast Michigan...even with oatmilk.
Love the vibe. Tasty coffee
Extremely knowledgeable team. Roasters with a direct trade relationship from where they buy from. Brewing equipment as well as great lattes.
Great coffee and baked goods.
Easily the best coffee Ive ever had; beans and barista-made drinks.
Great coffee and great live music outside.
Great local coffee!
Wonderful coffee, and the coffee is ordered and served around the back of the building through open bay doors so you dont even have to touch a door handle! Id post a picture but the drink was too good. Try the miel! Cinnamon toast crunch in a cup.
Tons of variety. A really cool place. Rachel provides awesome recommendations!
I cant remember the name of the coffee blend I got but I loved it so much I bought a bag of beans to take home to grind. Support your local coffee house. ❤️
I love getting my morning coffee here. Decent prices for darn good coffee.
Friendly local coffee roaster and coffee place. Serves excellent coffee from around the world 🌎
I have switched to their beans lately. They do a good job of roasting them. All are a medium roast, except the explicit dark roast coffee. They have been doing a nice job during the pandemic. Last time I was there, they had set up a large folding table. Customers were keeping a good 12 feet from one another and all the waiting was done in the shady parking lot.
The baristas are beyond amazing. Ive gone in and simply described a type of drink I would like, (something cold and sweet, for instance) and theyve made something stellar every time. This is what good coffee tastes like. In fact, its so good, I routinely give bags of in house roasted beans as gifts. Please, check it out.
Amazing coffee, friendly and knowledgable baristas!
Hyperion is a really nice coffee spot in Ypsi. The vibe inside really suits the young crowd in Ypsilanti, and the location in the main stretch of town is great! There are a number of parking spots in the lot near the building, as well as the street parking on the main road if thats your bag as well.Inside, youll find a small menu, and that really streamlines the ordering process. The coffee is solid, and if you have any questions about any options/ items on the menu, the staff is happy to help!Outside of ordering, youll notice that seating inside the shop is very limited. Theres one large communal table and a few seats along the sides of the building inside. There are some outdoor options as well, but in the winter especially, it can be packed (no empty seats) during what would normally be considered non-peak times. Its also common to find that most people are on their own, working inside the shop... certainly not a problem -- unless youre trying to meet someone for coffee & to catch up. I found that its a nice place to go and spend time, but I probably wouldnt schedule another coffee date there -- its too much of a possibility that itll be very quiet inside and that youll be the only ones talking (I may or many not have be speaking from personal experience).Overall a great coffee shop ! (just dont set up coffee dates there :) )
Hyperion has fantastic coffee and does not overcharge, unlike most coffee roasters in the metro area. I always stop by when I am in the Ypsi area. And even with COVID they still welcome patrons to sit at social distant and with masks.
It is a nice atmosphere, but my girlfriend and I have never actually liked or even been satisfied with how the coffee or espresso drinks tasted-- it is always weak and weird tasting.
Hands down the best coffee in the Ann Arbor Ypsi area- they just care about good coffee!!
A little slice of hipster brooklyn
As long as you really enjoy the flavor of coffee and want that deep, full flavor you will find what you seek at H. If you are looking for some sugary, whipped, milky dessert thing you will be happier somewhere else. They are a specific thing and do it so well
Fantastic coffee roasters who scour the earth to make friends with farmers and then sell their crop. Very unique tastes. Love the lighter roast style.
Fantastic coffee with knowledgeable and courteous workers. New favorite local roaster!
Amazing coffee, I had a latte and it was great. I like the location of it. Cute little town of ypsilanti. I like the store sign also. Great job Danny!
Ive been here twice now. The first to get a grinder and decaf beans for late night cravings. The second was for a large black drip. Great both times.
Very cute and trendy. The cold brew is delicious.
Excellent coffee!! Heard about it from a co-worker and it was as good as expected. Wasn’t sure what to order but the staff asked me a few questions and recommended what turned out to be an awesome choice. Knowledgeable courteous staff.
Outstanding shop.
Neat little place. Very friendly. The hours are changed with Covid.
Yes, its on the expensive side even for specialty coffee, but their roasts are exceptional and well worth the price.
These guys have some lf the best beans in town and some of the most competitive prices, not only on beans but on specialty drinks and home brew equipment as well. The baristas are all highly knowledgeable about the product and make great roast recommendations. They keep early hours so you want to get in as early as you can, but this is THE pick up spot for coffee lovers on a budget who love an exceptional roast. They are also running the place safely, take-out only, for COVID safety. A local staple, deservedly!
Four stars because it was almost impossible to find, you all need a bigger sign on the street so people know that you are located in the very back of the building. I drove by once, did a second drive by and almost gave up but saw a girl on her phone looking around. Turned out, both of us couldnt find the place but together we did. Theres a parking lot right next to the little building with the businesses in front, park there and the door is in the back of the building. Coffee was great, staff was very friendly. I would go back next time Im in town and know where the door is.
I actually love this local place this was my first time there. But the sitting area is not much you can barely fit 15 people in there. And its a coffee only place so there is no food or any other kind of drinks. There are variety of options if you would like to buy coffee and you have a preference. I think they have two options and they change every day to choose from on regular coffee and then there is the Espresso Bar itself. I will suggest drinking only one drink at a time especially if youre drinking without milk or you are not an avid coffee drinker. This is because the coffee is quite nice but it is also potent so you might seem to jitters if you drink too much at once.
Best beans in town.
Delicious, fresh coffee and kind, helpful baristas.
Hyperion is my go to spot for buying my coffee beans and grabbing a drip coffee. There isnt a ton of space to sit inside and they serve just a few different drinks but that is what I love about this place - they are amazing at what they do and dont need to do anything else. I just started really getting in to artisan coffee and playing around with my brew set up at home and they have been so helpful when I have had questions. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and have always knocked it out of the park with recommendations when I tell them what kind of flavors Im looking for.
This place has such a nice atmosphere, and not only do they have amazing coffee but you can buy coffee making needs along with their beans.
Absolutely the most amazing coffee Ive found yet!! Highly recommended!! ^_^
Great bean selection and optimal roast for any given bean. Total experts. Best roaster in Michigan!
I love the coffee from Hyperion. We usually buy two bags a month for hot coffees at home and occasionally make it out to the cafe to enjoy a visit. I need to pop in and get myself a cold brew real soon.
Best coffee in the tristate area
Really cool little shop. Expertly made drinks. Very friendly baristas. Would highly recommend
Great coffee, great service
Cozy and nice place to have a cup of coffee.
Coffee was exceptional. Not what I was expecting as far as location and atmosphere but, I actually kind of loved it. Super quaint and quiet. Room for only a few people.
What a quaint little coffee shop. Very trendy and hipster and in a good way. Small seating areas but inviting. They roast onsite and thats cool. They only serve coffee items ( no tea, hot chocolate, etc). Lots of photos of where the beans come from and a random one of Michael B. Jordan.
Good coffee, just wish they had bigger than 12oz. sizes.
Some of the best coffee Ive gotten in a while!! Will definitely be back!!!
My favorite coffee. The staff here is always friendly and helpful.
Good coffee and interesting place. You can see them roasting the beans it’s pretty cool. Reasonably priced. Really hard to find though. Was able to on foot for my second time looking.
I go here every week - it is the paramount roastery and brand in the area. All other hip spots nearby just sell hyperion. Their clothes are soft and dope too. The staff is also dope and a combo of soft and hard, more soft than hard. This place is dope - the kind of dope that makes you keep come back for more.
For those seeking good quality coffee in a more relaxed and obscure setting, here is the place. Off the beaten track but not unknown in coffee circles, Hyperion serves up a slam-bam coffee fix. The place seems like a bit of a workshop but thats the charm of the place. Stay behind the yellow line, craftsmen at work!
This artisan roaster is very good. They are careful with their beans and do a great job. The coffee drinks are also excellent. My wife really enjoyed her lattes, and their macciatos are excellent. The renovated historic building is beautifully done, as well.
Rugged coffee tasting room concept with amazing varieties. The crew here has great hospitality and are eager to talk about the many aspects that go into the roasting and distribution of coffee.Highly recommend this place if you want the full coffee experience without the fuss.
Very chill shop that doesnt hide the main point of the store...roasting quality coffee beans. They also have a good selection of coffee brewing equipment. Parking is on site in their lot.
Indian black was amazing!
Coffee was really good and reasonable priced. Wish they had more seating but Im not going to dock them for that
Hyperion Coffee Co is a small little quant coffee shop without all the unnecessary frills.Seating is limited with just one large table and a bar against a wall, but even on an early Sunday afternoon visit, there was room to sit and enjoy our coffee. As for the coffee, its delicious, the menu is limited to the basics, of lattes, cold brew, black coffee, etc.
Great coffee! I like that they have accessible/easy parking. I wish they sold the cold brew to-go in a glass bottle. I also wish they encouraged more people to use the mugs instead of the to-go cups. Those biodegradable plastic cups give a false sense of responsibility. If you throw that cup or fork in the trash, where it will not be exposed to the heat and moisture required to trigger biodegradation, it will sit there for decades or centuries, much like an ordinary plastic cup or fork.
By far the best roaster in Michigan. The owners frequently travel to the coffee farms and have personal relationships with the growers. Very knowledgeable about coffee.
This location is one step above a hole-in-the-wall, and can be pretty difficult to find from the street. Watch out, most of the parking nearby is reserved for the apartment building next door.Once youre in, I would suggest ordering an espresso, the coffee is not worth it. They dont sell anything larger than 12oz, which is kinda ridiculous. You will be charged $5 if you want a 24oz coffee.
Peaceful and redolent of roasted coffee beans. Excellent hot bean water in many forms.
I haven’t actually been here, but have had the coffee, and it was great! The owner exchanged some for a letterpress print I had made. Would definitely recommend the positive atmosphere the owner provides!
Nice selection, very pleasant staff! This is a cozy place, prepare to share a table, and conversation.
