Very polite staff. I was having major issues seeing well and they accepted my insurance. I noticed the equipment was outdated and not as thorough as my last place. I received my glasses with high hopes. They helped but still struggled in brighter light like driving during day. I went back on my own dime to my previous optometrist. Within 20 minutes they showed me a had early onset of cataracts (I am 55) and I needed surgery. I just had my surgery yesterday. My follow up today I have 20/20 vision without glasses. I only need my $2.00 readers which I used to have 2.75 for reading.In closing they are fine I believe for just prescription glasses but ill equipped to detect deeper issues.

Probably the fastest eye appointment Ive had. In and out all while having all my questions answered and given a new prescription that has been working great so far! The doc and other employees were very nice, will continue coming here for future appointments.

Friendly, efficient staff. No wait time. Great with fitting my special needs son for glasses with outside script and had options for little kids. No wait. Able to get glasses with transition lenses within a week. Needed slight adjustment after a few days and different staff equally friendly and helpful, got adjusted with no wait or hassle. Would recommend and will return.

This was my first apptointiment at Dr Tavel Family Eye Care, after moving down from the greater Chicago land area. From moment I walked in the Zionsville office I felt welcomed. Dr Helderman was very thorough with the examination.

First visit to an optometrist in 30 years. Finally needed glasses. Staff was very helpful with navigating my vision insurance.

Dr Tavel was wonderful with my sons eye exam. Very thorough and sweet. The whole staff was very friendly and helpful. Were very very satisfied with our appointment.

Rude customer service! The representative was very short & rude to me & my husband. We had picked out several frames that my husband liked. These were all plastic frames. She then tells us that these won’t work for my husband since he needs bifocals. She goes and picks out all metal frames(more expensive). I tried to tell her we also did not want glasses that would have really large lenses that would hang way down on the cheek. She cut me off & totally ignored our likes & dislikes. She finally decided that she liked two particular frames that had the same size lens as the plastic ones we picked. (This is why we think it was about the all mighty dollar.) She also embarrassed my husband because he has a crooked eye. She kept telling him to look straight ahead, which he was with the good eye. She then says you know you have a crooked eye. Well no duh! She then says why didn’t the doctor add something to the lens which would pull his eye in. We tried to tell her that he needed a surgical fix & she starts to argue with us about it. Like she knows better than our ophthalmologist. Sure, we’ll take your non-medical opinion over his. Anyway, we quickly ordered my husbands glasses & escaped. After sleeping on the decision, I am proud to say we cancelled my husband’s order & will never set foot in there again. We are headed to Carmel tomorrow to order glasses from Visionworks.

My family has been going here for 6 six years! Love the staff! Debbie is always very helpful and polite!! I had to stop in today because me sons glasses broke after a week and she fixed them on the spot! Great customer service!!

I had no wait time. Dr. Tavel was very kind, thorough and answered all my questions. I will also make an appointment for my husband for his eye exam when it’s due.

I visited this office last August and was treated very well and got an extensive eye exam. I was very happy with the customer service. The reason I’m giving 1 star is because I was given the wrong prescription twice. The first time I wore the contacts home, they were so blurry and gave me a headache even after trying to wear them all day at work. I tried again the next day and the same thing. I came back for a follow up appointment, wearing those contacts and told them the issue and they “corrected” the prescription. When I got the new prescription I told them that it was still slightly blurry and I was told that after a couple hours, it would be normal. Yet I tried them for days and couldn’t get used to the blurriness. When I picked up my new contacts after already paying for them, the prescription is still wrong, blurry and still gives me a headache. I have ended up wearing my old glasses full time until I can afford to go to a new place.

I feel like Dr. Tavel is very thorough. More old school in his ways, but thorough. Hes not one to try to get you to purchase things you dont need also.

Rip-OFF! That is the short version of my review. I paid out of pocket for two glasses and since they were not negotiating the rates with an insurance company, they overcharged me. I paid around $800. When I returned one pair of glasses, they made me wait for 2 months before refunding around $188 or so with no explanation. Debbie in this place is the person with the magic touch. She will make sure that your purse is lighter by many 100s of $$$. I am assuming that they returned only $188 because these were 50% off second pair and when I returned one pair, the cost of the one I kept shot up by 50%, so in effect I paid around $600 for one pair of glasses. I wonder if I could have gotten designer glasses for this amount of money. Be safe and avoid this place.

The employees at this location have always gone above and beyond to help me out. Their selection when I got my last pair a few years ago wasnt great but I found a set of frames I liked. This time around theyve significantly upgraded their selection.

Avoid! Worst possible combination of incompetence and bad business practices.My husband had an appointment here in the middle of March. Whatever they used to dilate his eyes took all day to wear off, they did extra testing of his vision after dilation, mis-diagnosed his vision problem (never before has anyone claimed he had astigmatism), and as a result wrote a rx for glasses that caused a headache within 5 minutes of putting them on. Then come to find out they didnt do anything with the refund paperwork until yesterday - almost 3 weeks after he returned the glasses. Now we have to go through the 2nd Opinion process with our insurance, which requires 2 months and reimbursement.

I went to Dr Tavels out of convenience, not for its reputation. Firstly, I found it to be dated, a little unclean and with a poor selection of frames. However, I decided to return for an eye test and order glasses online; cheaper and wider selection. It has taken me sometime to write this but during my exam I felt the doctor (whos name I will not write here) got uncomfortably close to me, rubbing his grown against me and leaning in very close. I felt quite violated as I left Tavels but put it to the back of my mind, dismissing it as my own imagination. Incidentally, I am a man and the examiner was also a male. I could be wrong but the unpleasant experience still haunts me over a year on, so feel my gut is correct on this one. My own interpretation on a situation aside, on facilities alone, I would not recommend Tavels to anyone.
