Wonderful experience thanks so much. Needed new strings for my old viola. Had them put them on for me. Bonus they even cleaned it up made my old viola look shiny and new again. Thanks for taking extra care in what you do.

The staff are all helpful and very patient. Aaron Robertson was very helpful, helping me find the right viola and he even played them for me to hear! Super helpful! They even helped me customize my viola. If I could give more than 5 stars No doubt I would! For sure going to visit them again in the future.

I received terrible customer service from Stacy. She ran a credit check on me to rent a violin. She did not tell me she was going to run a credit check. She told me dont worry its not that big of a hit on your credit. I told her she should have told me beforehand. She said she did. I told her no you did not. If you did I would not have approved of it. She looked me in the eyes and said she did. She lied to my face. Was very irritated decided to rent a violin from somewhere else and not waste my time or money with people who cannot be honest.

Horrible experience. Employees werent very friendly and they basically want you to have perfect credit to rent an instrument. I am glad I took my business elsewhere. Went to Musicality. The employee was way more friendly and helpful. They hsd far more reasonable expectations for parents renting an instrument for their elementary school children.

Great place. Very helpful staff. Aaron Robertson knows a lot and helped us personally.Great selection of instruments and they treat you very well even if you tell them you are just beginning the journey to a new instrument.We played over a dozen instruments from all price ranges including a couple that were stratospheric. Just to see the differences and similarities.

My son needed an instrument for his school orchestra, hes in 5th grade at a school in El Paso. We were recommended to use this company. When I first called I spoke with a gentleman that wasnt that friendly, he transferred me to a lady that handles the rentals of the instruments. She was amazing! Visiting Robertsons Violins was just about heaven on Earth. I visited in search of a better cello, and have my current cello worked on so that I can put it up for sale. Both processes were extremely accommodating and very specifically catered to my needs. The luthier spent about 30-40 minutes working on my instrument. During this time, every change he made, had me try the cello and provide him with feedback to get the adjustments just right. He also played the cello for me, which was very helpful as well. Next, I spent over 5 hours in their auditorium, auditioning cellos. The specialist who helped me really took the time to listen to my thoughts, and also gave me the space to play around with the instruments on my own. He brought to me different cellos, I spent some time with each, and then gave him my thoughts. He then performed the cellos for me so that I could hear the sounds at a distance, which was incredibly helpful. One particular cello that I was was drawn to, was very nicely balanced, but there was something I disliked about the A string. After listening, the specialist exchanged the A string for a different brand, which then provided the cello with exactly what I was looking for. However, then the D string didnt seem to work well with the new A, and so once again, the specialist changed out a string and voila, perfection. Needless to say, I purchased that cello. I was over the moon with their customer service and really attracted to their trade-in policy. My purchase was definitely an investment for my future, and one day, I will trade in my cello for a new cello that suits my needs as a growing cellist. As I left, he had my new cello cleaned up and serviced by their luthiers, and even managed to find an old hard case to transport the instrument home. I am so happy to now be apart of the Robertsons family. Thank you so much.

Justin was great! He made my viola much more ergonomic to play. He helped me find a better bow at a slight upgrade price. My son was also able to start renting his first violin (1/10 size). He is 5 years old. The rental and trade in policy seems very reasonable and makes it possible to afford trade-ins as my son grows. Back to Justin... he was kind to me and completed the work quickly in the same day. I wasnt expecting to pay as much as I did, but he did perform several adjustments.

I’ve been lots of violin shop but I can tell everyone Robertson and sons is the best violin shop that I know. Everyone always very polite, helpful here. They have lots of choices for you. Barbara is great with her knowledge about violin. I love to see her plays. I can stay here many hours each time to try and look at the beautiful violins and bows here!!! All of them are amazing. And I can feel the owners and all the people working here care of all the instruments, accessories and their customers a lot!!! If you are from far away to come to Albuquerque just to buy the instruments here, you will happy with your decision. And you will see the time and effort you bot out for long distances is not in vain. This isnt just the best violin shop in the city or state, but they are one of the best-known and most respected in the entire country. We are lucky to have them right here in Albuquerque. They are THE authority on violins.

I have just have just had an experience with this company that has really impressed me with their integrity. It involved a recently discovered defect in an instrument that was purchased from Robertson & Sons in the 1990s. Thats nearly a quarter of a century ago! They resolved the issue to my total satisfaction, entirely at their own expense, in spite of their facility being shut down during the pandemic crisis. If every business operated at these high standards, what a wonderful world it would be! The fact that they are still in business after all these years is surely a testament to how well they treat their customers.

This is by far the best experience I’ve ever had with a music shop. They are honest and fair, and, unlike some shops, are definitely not taking advantage of people who don’t know what they’re doing. We were very impressed with their inventory, but we were blown away by their customer service. I will be making all of my instrument purchases here in the future!

Every rental was a good quality instrument--with a solid carry case---many we were sorry to trade in, but the players were growing and changing sizes. Tune-ups were always done when promised, and performed correctly, whether the instruments were ours, or rented from them.They sell sheet music, all sorts of supplies and accessories, offer full-service on-site tune ups, repairs, sales and rentals.If you are new to the area, and need a nudge in the right direction, they have a list of local instructors.

I’m always impressed with the ease of getting what I need in a timely manner, and even during a seemingly busy time, I am always treated as important as the next guy. This particular visit I think I did not even purchase more than maybe an e string, and even though my visit could not have been much of a profit to them, they prioritized servicing my violin right away. They had my sound post back up in no time and I was treated with respect by the man who fixed my instrument, he told me what he did and how to prevent it from happening again. I appreciate the level of intellect that I was approached with, there was no assumption of my level of musical knowledge, and nothing was dumbed down due to my young age, low budget, or liberal appearance. Best quality string instruments in New Mexico. Great rentals. I was worried about getting a poor instrument for a month to practice on while Im in town, but they assured me I would not be disappointed, and indeed I was not. We arent talking about super high dollar instruments for rent, but very good quality, stays in tune, sounds good.I bought my cello here in 1982 and it is now worth double what we paid. This family knows string instruments and really provides excellent options to rent or purchase, with a range to meet various budgets.

Always someone around to help you with questions and concerns, have never spent an exorbant amount of time in the shop with tune ups and quick fixes, and quotes on repairs and fixes are very reasonable. A lovely selection of strings, sheet and booklet music, and tools (shoulder rests, chin rest tighteners, tuning forks) for orchestral instruments. Their bow repair offers a trade out for 30$ and a bow fix for 60$. Lovely place! Will definitely have my business for a long long time.

There is a reason this is a world class violin shop. This was by far the best experience I’ve ever had. I’m a college student. Violin is my first stringed instrument. I really have no money, actually I’m under a lot of school debt and as most of you know, music, violin in particular, is not a cheap hobby/passion. They helped me. They saw I had a passion and made it work for me. The hospitality they showed brings me to tears almost. If you have time, stop by their shop and say hi. They have great instruments! I specifically wanted an older instrument. I requested an old German violin and they delivered and worked with me financially. They put a brand new set of high quality expensive strings on my new violin and restored the damage free of charge while still giving me an amazing price! If your a student too? Check their student rental program! They have great brand new instruments that are really affordable. They offer a buyout option after 6 months too if you love the instrument.

I have had the pleasure of doing business with Robertsons for 22 years and the care and attention they showed my children, the quality of their work, their pricing, terms and purchases options have been exceeding reasonable. My youngest is in NYC and rented a Violin there and the price was 3 times as expensive. The quality was comparable.Robertsons restored a violin that is dated at 1797, and even took on a side restoration a handmade multi-wooden hunting bow of unknown age.They are friendly, honest and willing to assist and support the families and children who pursue music and all levels.

This place is great! Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. If you dont know what you need or want they will help! They offer instrument rental which is great for my middle schooler in orchestra. They do repairs and are as quick as possible!

Customer service was above and beyond. I just needed to fix the violins string but my husband was working late. I went with my four kids... they were tired and not exactly listening... the staff came out and play the bass. My kids were excited and QUIET. Thank you and happy holidays. :)

Always nice people. Weve had to exchange bows many times for busted frogs, and its usually been a positive experience. I tried to do the right thing by calling ahead for an up size exchange, but paperwork lost/misplaced. We had to wait a while to do the exchange. And when we did, we didnt get a like we did when we initially got my daughter hers. That was depressing, but since i know its not her final one, i didnt make an issue of it. The frog is broken on the bow again, so Ill be having to exchange it again. I was in such a rush i didnt think to check it. It should have been noticed by staff before giving to us though.

Friendly staff. Very professional. Gave me a quick appraisal and rehaired my bow at short notice. Also installed my new strings, without me asking. My fiddle sounds fabulous now 😊

Nice store to find really good quality musical instruments from some of the best makers. We drove four hours to get a repair. The price was fair, the repair professional and completed in the promised time. I recomend to make an appointment if you will be driving a long distance.

I have purchased two instruments from Roberston & Sons, a full size violin and a full size cello. The violin arrived in an impressive hard case and was packaged well. However, after owning the violin for 2 years, small holes are beginning to appear on the body of the instrument. The quality of the instrument is not what I had hoped. When we ordered the cello, it was shipped in a soft case and was packaged poorly. The cello arrived with a 4 inch crack just under the bridge, we were sent a replacement cello with an upgraded complimentary bow for our trouble, but then were charged full price for the upgraded bow, an upgrade we did not request. I would not recommend purchasing and instrument from Robertson & Sons, would only recommend a rental instrument.

Thank you Robertson & Sons! I rent a cello from this shop, and have it serviced periodically when Robertsons visits Denver. They are incredibly professional, courteous, and take great care for all their instruments. I started playing cello as an adult, and have not been in a financial situation yet where I could purchase my own cello. The student rental I have through Robertsons is the finest grade rental I have ever seen (I have shopped for other rentals.. nothing comes close), and it performs very well alongside my friends intermediate and advanced cellos. I believe they will rent across the country... if you are considering learning to play the cello (or violin, viola, etc), this is the place to rent. Hands down.

I was assisted right away by friendly people and one of the Robertsons helped me. He fixed the issue with my violin within 5 minutes. While waiting, I was perusing through the books. I bought a couple and when I took them home, I realized I had bought the wrong ones. I called and spoke with Stacey. I just cant believe the how friendly and helpful she was. She didnt treat me like a customer, she treated me like a friend. She helped me right away and im pretty happy with the outcome. As it is, this place had come highly recommended by several people. I live several hours away, but if I need assistance again, I wont hesitate to make the drive once again. I had a similar issue before so I took it to a place near me. They charged an arm and a leg and kept it for three days.

As soon as I walked in I was greeted and helped. All I needed was a new chord for my daughters chello, I was in and out in about 15 minutes.

Robertson & Sons violin shop is located four miles down Carlisle depending on where you are in UNM and this store caters towards any skill level of stringed instrument players. Since my home is in California, I wanted to experience the difference between violin stores in California and a store in Albuquerque. When I visited the store, I concluded that the store was well above my expectations compared to prior expectations. When I entered the store, I was greeted with an atmosphere that felt professional office. The whole store has a way more modern look unlike the ones I have visited in California. On the second floor, all the wooden stringed instruments lined the rooms in an orderly fashion. On the first floor is where all the employees stayed at and the luthiers had their own room in the first floor. The employees answered all my questions about the quality of the violins they have in inventory. Since I was content with the customer service, I did not want to leave the store empty handed so rented a violin afterwards. The store had a wide array of violins ranging from six hundred dollars to five hundred thousand dollars. Therefore, the store surpassed most of the inventories of California stores that I have visited. The implementations of rentals give customers who want to try the violin out before actually purchasing a full priced violin proves financially beneficial towards customers. I have yet to find any negative remarks to gives this establishment because everything seems to be top notch from the customer service all the way to the instruments they sell. I enjoyed my visit in this store because of the professionalism, its wide inventory, and how it exceeded most of the qualities of violin stores that are located in California.

Took my cello in to have the snapped bridge replaced. They ended up repairing my broken one and reinstalling it free of charge, plus tuning in about 5 minutes. The level of satisfaction with string service throughout my playing career cannot be surpassed by this place. Go here no questions.

My sons cello teacher is the Principal Cellist in the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, and recommended Robertson & Sons for my sons student cello. He told us that string musicians from all over the country get their instruments here, and that EPSO musicians make frequent trips to Albuquerque (about 4 hours away) to Robertson and Sons for instrument purchases, service, etc...We were able to complete a rental agreement by phone/email and had a beautiful student cello delivered to our home in a matter of days. After 6 months of rental, we were able to apply 100% of our rental fees towards the purchase of the instrument, and were given the option of 4 easy payments to complete the purchase.Theyll also apply 100% of the purchase price of an instrument purchased from them, towards an upgrade in the future (assuming the instrument is in the same condition as when purchased).Next time we are in the Albuquerque area, well be sure to visit the store, and well defiantly visit when my son is ready for an upgrade.One negative, is that the soft case provided with the student cello package (cello, bow, soft case) did not provide much protection. As a result, his cello does have a few blemishes after a full school year of back and forth to school and lessons.

After a complaint the owner called and took the time to make things right. Very pleased and thankful for the personalized help. Albuquerque is lucky to have this resource.
