Stopped in to this local joint because I don’t support Starbucks or any chain coffee shops. Was intrigued with the theme. Was pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere when I walked in. Kenzie and Thomas greeted us and welcomed us into this unique coffee spot. Had the Space Force cold brew and a mix of cafe de olla and the dark roast. Absolutely loved the cold brew and hot drip was delicious and smooth. No sugar needed. This place has a stage and bar, with shows on various evenings (music/comedy). Bar is open all day, and serves breakfast and lunch as well. Awesome service and “Kick Butt” atmosphere and vibe. Come out and support your local businesses. I highly recommend this joint.
I love this coffee clubhouse. Locally owned and inspired. A nice cross section of people and the coffee is pretty good too. They also have a yummy selection of food and snacks. This place has space for a good crowd and a variety of musical bands up close for your entertainment. Check out their FB page.
Great cafe with quiet mornings and festive evenings. Their coffee is just strong enough and a little acidic. I met the owner and his sister (hi Thomas and Joy) and they were very friendly. I appreciate the seating space and the abundance of soft seats. I will come back for their breakfast tacos and monstrous cookies!
This place is simply the bees knees. Took the pandemic for me to re-discover it after years. Its awesome and the tastiest, most friendly, and most-Austin coffeeshop in the north-central ATX area.
Awesome place. Cool vibes. Looks like just another coffee shop but be surprised as soon as you enter through their door. The food, the coffee and the vibe - Just awesome.P.S: For software engineers it’s the exact DEV CAVE you’ve been looking for your coding work. 😁
They have trivia night and comedy show nights during the week! What better thing to do in the evening while you study or work remote & enjoying their amazing coffee! ALSO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES! I have so much love for this place. 10/10 recommend
First time here and VERY impressed! The roadside view does nothing for this edgy venue. Kensi was amazing and helpful and the black bean and potato breakfast tacos were on point! I had the English Toffee Latte! Im excited to go back for round two!
This coffee shop has a bright, open, relaxing ambiance with friendly staff and fun events. The comedy open mic held there every Wednesday at 7:30 is not to be missed if you like local talent. Come for the jokes, stay for the pastries.
I love this place great food good service very nice environment
An honest review. This is the best coffee shop in Austin, Texas period. The cookies and coffee is better than any coffee shop in the surrounding area.
Everyone is always so nice! I make sure to always stop by when I get the chance for some amazing brew and good vibes. Every now n then you’ll catch a surprise concert too!
Good dark drip brew was on and nice informative staff. Girl with orange hair was super nice, sorry, I forgot your name.Wish they had more selections for drip. Was first time there amd did have a nice coffee menu besides that. I do like my light beans.
Glorious coffee joint. I come about twice a week, and it is relaxing, with tasty caffeine and magnificent air conditioning. The occasional punk show here is quite rewarding as well. Thomas is quite plea2to chat with, too. If I had time and funds, Id likely check of the martial arts studio of his next door.
Great spot for local band shows. The menu looks good. They have beer!!!! Parking is great.
This is a great place! Character and excellent coffee. What more could you ask for?
This place is so cool! Coffee, lunch, live music and shows, and a bar all in 1. The cold brew was really smooth and balanced; I liked it so much that I went back later the same day for more. I just wished I lived closer so I could go more often!
Super friendly service and unique, homemade options. We enjoyed the chagacinno sweetened with monk fruit, and a lemon cake that was scratch made by the Chef who was helpful and informative.
Def don’t come here to work lol. Its loud af and I was there mid day. It’s cute inside but the barista w dreads was a lil stand off ish. I asked him what the wifi was and he made it seem like I was annoying asking when it isn’t posted anywhere. He also went around and talked to everyone sitting but me? Also the owner and him were seemingly talking trash on someone who had applied there on the floor from what I heard but I may be wrong since it’s so loud. Not to mention the mosquitoes were eating me alive. Wish the people were nicer ultimately. I would go back nonstop and with friends because it’s a vibe, has shows, cute also a block away from me but turned off forsure from the personality of the workers.
This place is the essence of what Austin represents, chill, laid back, cozy, and quirky. They have a good selection of basic cafe food items as well as some awesome breakfast tacos including sausage from Meyers in Elgin. They have an amazing variety of different mocha drinks. They have live music and local artists that play here. they had a lovely couple playing Christmas tunes when I went. I love the atmosphere and the quirkiness of the decorations and the menu items. The only drawback I had was my breakfast taco wasn’t that fresh when I ate it. But other than that it was fine. Overall I love this place and will be back soon.
5 reasons to love this place:1. You can sit inside and work during the day.2. It’s not too crowded so you can always find a good spot to sit.3. They have a full kitchen with great food.4. They serve alcohol.5. The staff are very cool.
V yummy spiced chai & cool atmosphere ! my fav place up north :)
Its a nice coffee place that would appeal to a lot of people with certain tastes. It is setup more like a bar with live music and the lighting and decor inside is quite special and hippy. I liked the taste of coffee there, it was amazing. The menu items and the timings were unclear though so we ended up getting coffee and cookies during lunch time on a Saturday. Nice location and the vice is cool, Im not so sure I would go back but Ill suggest you visit once for sure. You would know if it suits your taste and if you want to come back to visit again.
I was visiting Austin and looking for a coffee spot to get some coffee before heading back home to houston. It was a mistake to stop here... Knowing that this coffee shop is only in Austin makes me want to take daily trips. They can make you any coffee/espresso drink you want and make it amazing. When I went I asked for the special and was suggested a blueberry mocha. It was fantastic, I also had there breakfast tacos and their cookies all also fantastic. If you are in Austin make sure to stop by if you are a coffee or cookie lover.
I love this this place. Great service. Great live music. Great coffee, drinks, beer, and shots. Its what Austin is all about wrapped up in this spot!
Unique atmosphere, great food, coffee, booze, pastrys, plus entertainment. What is not to love?! I cant wait to bring my friends and family here when they come visit me.
Great coffee, and a really cute old austin vibe. Super friendly baristas and a tasty bacon egg and cheese taco!
Great coffee and food and a good atmosphere just a bit expensive
Fulfills the need for a regular injection of Austin funk as well as nommy caffeine.
The overall vibe, super cool! The mocha and blueberry muffin I ordered…Divine! (Srsly)! The service..good. The lady behind the counter..not friendly BUT polite. The owner…very friendly! Will return and recommend. Just avoid the grumpy thin woman with short bangs possibly red hair?! 😄Worth whatever price I paid for these items! Delish!
Nice cozy place. Had the breakfast tacos. Have had much better. No taste, just eggs and some sausage put together. Sausage was not well cooked either. Coffee was ok, overall, wouldnt revisit unless, maybe Im getting coffee.
They were super responsive and helpful when I needed to round up a ton of coffee (Joe-to-Go)- kind of last-minute for a work group! This aligns worth all the other experiences Ive had with them.Grateful. :)
Love Kick Butt! Great drinks, good food and cool T-shirts.
Great food, good vibe, very friendly staff. And consistently tasty cold brew!
Spend some time in Austin, and youll eventually want to grab a coffee, or a bite here. Loaded with personality and a certain flair for everything Chuck Norris, the Kick Butt Cafe has a lot going for it.Take, for example, the comedy open mic night, the music shows, and the selection of foods that cater to many food allergies and food preferences. We asked for a splash of coconut milk, and the barista had a pretty heavy pour, but other than that, the coffee seemed pretty good.Tip: They have gluten-free vegan chocolate donuts, but if youre not into soy, Id avoid it..
Great drinks, tasty food, but the best is the friendly staff. My go-to coffee spot!
This place has great coffee, amazing breakfast tacos, and kick-butt ambiance. I remember walking in and thinking, “this place has so much character!”. We came for coffee and keep coming back for the made-from-scratch foods and atmosphere!
We are visiting from South Carolina and our daughter recommended this coffee shop. So far, it is our favorite! Try it and you will not be disappointed.
Love their iced vanilla latte! I miss going to events.
First time there. They were very friendly and patient. Drinks and food were very good.
There was no music on- dead silent and awkward. Girl working seemed really angry and was pretty rude. They were out of what I wanted which she told me after i paid, so I had to get something else (which was cheaper) and then she didn’t give me my money back. Pretty disappointed as this place had good reviews.
Ive been in a few times for a quick coffee, but am always thrown off by the off-putting smell. I want to like Kick Butt so badly, but cant look past the smell. The coffee is average, but never disappoints. Breakfast tacos are tasty. But like I said, the smell is difficult to look past.
Nice relaxing environment with a very friendly and helpful staff. Lots of great food, snacks and drinks, including vegan options. A plus that it always seems to be in top notch condition and cleanliness. When I visit I often have my 2 yr old with me who can be a handful. The staff is always patient and very acknowledging and understanding of his toddler antics. Its always a treat to stop in. I highly reccomend supporting this local business who 100% goes out of their way to support their community. Thank you Kick Butt!
Good coffee. They even serve alcohol, sends mixed messages. Are they really about coffee or should it be called kick coffee and alcohol.
I have to be fair here, I think this place is great, it has a fantastic vibe. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I did not liked the Irish coffee, I think it is a little expensive and not well prepared but Ill try other options next time...
Went because of the name. I remember pre-covid there was a guy with a sign on the intersection. I loved watching him swing the sign. I finally tried when I got tired of the basic Starbucks. First order was a honey lavender mocha. It was just the perfect mix. Love the atmosphere, great location.
Ever since we moved out of Austin, we only get a chance to come to town once or twice a month. Whenever we can, however, we go to Kick Butt Coffee, which has the best coffee in Austin (and throughout the wide surrounding area). This is the place. We recommend it for outstanding (and strong) coffee, without reservation!
This is my coffee shop when I get back in town off the road. I personally love the space force cold brew, always look forward to it and the breakfast tacos if they are not sold out. I am a meet eater but find myself loving the spicy black been tacos.
Staff is very professional and polite. I enjoy the atmosphere and suggest anyone coming into Austin either as a new residence or just visiting stops by and spend your money in this place
Very Austin-like vibes. The place is very unique and I had a pleasant time working on my laptop here.
Been to Kickbutt a few times and love the service. Love the employees who have fun stories to tell. The only thing Im sad about is that my favorite coffee (almond coffee with lanvendar) that they made was only for the month. 😭. However, this now our regular coffee spot. 😊
Im not too familiar with anything in Austin, but for my first roadie to see live music, we hit a hell of a cool spot. This place has all the usual coffee and variants youd expect but also has beer and I think a full bar! They stay open late, the parking is ample because the rest of the strip center is closed in the evening, and theyre easy on and off to the freeway. Bonus for being easy to find for out of towners. The folks working here are friendly as hell, the place is clean, and they love their rock n roll music. The martial arts theme is pretty cool too, and I love not having a 50 dollar bar ran for 5 or 6 beers like some other spots I have been to.Im sure this is a great place to grab a coffee and some breakfast for normal day people, but if you get a chance to catch some live music here, I definitely would not pass it up!
If youve never been here you are missing out. Dont do that to yourself, treat yourself instead.
Great coffee and very nice staff.
Really great latte and nice staff…excited to try the food next time I go!
A cozy little niche right off the 290/35 interchange that offers an excellent line up of coffee and something a little stronger. Plenty of elbow room and outdoor seating. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
Friendly people, good coffee, and a superb location - what else does anyone need!?
Tasty coffee at reasonable prices in a very laid back and fun environment.
Oh, breakfast tacos, I have seen your light and it shines on me forever.I was in Austin for a few days for a poetry festival and discovered Kick Butt Coffee as they were nice enough to host several of the events. I understand you can’t walk 10 feet in Austin without tripping over a place that serves breakfast tacos, and I’m okay with that reality. Besides at the airport on the way home, Kick Butt Coffee were the only ones I had in the city so I don’t really have anything to compare them to, but these were delicious. They offered 3 vegetarian options, A black bean and potato, an egg cheddar, and potato, and a yummy special which added avocado and spinach to the previous.According to their website, they make only so many and may run out depending how busy they are. I got lucky when I showed up…it wasn’t very busy and there were vegetarian tacos a-plenty available for me.I had the “yummy” special, and the egg, cheddar and potato. These are soft tacos which weren’t so much in terms of presentation, but which were absolutely delicious, especially with a little bit of the spicy salsa. I want more!Kick Butt is also a full fledged coffee house with a lunch menu with lots of choices for vegetarians. (Order at the counter.)And perhaps most importantly, the coffee was excellent. All good things to a coffee-house that serves good coffee. If I lived in Austin I’d be a regular here at all times of the day.
Really cool staff very welcoming 🎶💯
Was super impressed with this cafe. I normally work night shift so anywhere that make actual strong coffee is a super great find. I love the atmosphere, they encourage local events....fun run, open mike, bar scene.I definitely recommend this place to others.
I really enjoy the atmosphere my coffee is always on point.
This is a fantastic venue for live music with a great cup of coffee!!
Great place, fantastic coffee, amazing atmosphere. I 100% recommend this place.
Thomas, the owner, is personable, community-minded, and wants to share his love of good coffee, good eats, and good times with all.Kick Butt Coffee is my go-to coffee spot.Savor a cup of Enchanted Rock blend coffee and think back to your favorite memories of our beloved pink granite mountain. I was transported to cool mornings before a hike. The carrot cake is luxurious and not to be missed. I have to have one piece per year minimum. (Best shared with a friend its so rich.)Savory coffee, satisfying eats, and even streaming live music!Sign up for his emails so you dont miss a thing!
Awesome shows at night, great coffee, friendly staff and great atmosphere
It was my first time there and the barista was very helpful and very patient
Stumbled upon this place as passing by. Great meet up spot with nice vibes. Drinks were fantastic and the atmosphere was very casual and low key.
They were open bright and early on Saturday and had great coffee and service. Apparently they have much more to offer than just coffee. Shows, open mic, etc...
This place was fantastic. I spent, ohh, about 7 hours here today and the employees were very nice. In the morning I had a breakfast taco w their featured Green Mint Mocha, for lunch I had their Pecan Steamed Engine (I may have gotten the name wrong but its basically their pecan cold brew, hot) and for lunch I had whats n the picture. One of the employees reccd the beer I had and it was delicious. Im a creature of habit so I will definitely be back tomorrow before I head back home.
Fantastic place! Great coffee, staff and grub! My fav is the punk rock shows! Intimate venue for a cool show. Highly recommend !
Amazing coffee and even better atmosphere. I absolutely love it there!!!
The vegan chocolate donut is to die for. Soooo chocolately and rich with flavor. My English toffee espresso was smooth.
The dragon salad was tasty, however, 3 of the ingredients listed were not on the salad. They werent busy, but it took a while!
Very interesting place. Definitely want an open mind . Surprised at how much we enjoyed it. Thank you
Cool spot to grab a brewski or some coffee.
Awesome coffee and great service. Love the black iced pecan coffee and the breakfast burritos are bomb. Seems like a cool place for music too, but alas we were only in Austin during the pandemic.
Been meaning to come here for YEARS and despite my first time being the Friday morning after Thanksgiving, during a pandemic, it was still great! I felt safe with the plexi glass, and few customers. The breakfast tacos exceeded my expectation and the service was quick and friendly. Cant wait to come back when the world isnt dying!
We have been here several times, the coffee is pretty good. Area is starting to get a bit run down though!
Food and service was great. Very relaxed.
This a fun/cool coffee shop/hang out spot in Austin! I came here for a couple comedy shows (pre-pandemic) and those were great to attend. Love that theres both coffee and alcoholic drink options available, and the menu here is pretty tasty!
I always have a great time and service when I come in
I enjoyed my coffee and the staff was quick;)
