One of my favorite restaurants in Austin! The food is always great and they change their menu a lot so its so fun to come here often and try new things. The ambience is also great and the people who work here are also so nice.
Food was phenomenal, ambience was nice. Difficult to enjoy with less than satisfactory service plus expensive. Maybe they don’t care about the service since they will add an automatic gratuity to your bill? Come if you want really good food and you’re not in a rush. Otherwise it’s a pass
Food is AMAZING however their seating sucks. You come in, order food, but are not guaranteed a table as they have their whole dining room filled with empty tables that are reserved for people that are not here yet nor have they ordered yet. Kinda silly to have a breakfast style restaurant and a hostess that only tells you all the tables are reserved when you have already paid and are holding all your drinks awkwardly trying to wait for a table.
Food is fine. They automatically add a 20% gratuity on to-go orders (I normally tip 10% on to-go, if the service is friendly). When I said something about it to the cashier, he gave me eyes and then whispered something to the chef as he put my order in. So now Im waiting for my food, hoping its spit free and not at all enjoying my experience. Thank you for making me feel uncomfortable with your entitlement. Oh and enjoy your 20% tip for that honor.
They make a great cappuccino!chill environment.nice employees & fresh pastries.
Extremely underwhelming. No chips for your sandwich but they have...chips and salsa? At a French restaurant? And a 20% service fee is included with every order? A bit rich for counter service dining. Especially considering our order was messed up multiple times. Ill stick to Epicerie.
We loved the food & atmosphere. Brought our toddler and enjoyed brunch in their large outdoor shaded patio. French toast and egg sandwich and blueberry scone were all delish.
We had an absolutely wonderful experience and will definitely be coming back. We spoke with Carlos about different wines they serve and his impressive background of being a wine sommelier. After we had our wine and entree, one of the chefs came out and asked how our meal was. 10/10 one of the best meals I have ever had.
Great place for breakfast. Service and staff are super nice.
Got a table out in the garden. Was absolutely beautiful out there and the honey oatmilk latte is one of the best Ive ever had. Also had the breakfast sandwich and tried the french toast as well, both phenomenal.
TFB is a permanent option in our brunch rotation. The tostadas are well put together with the right amount of savory crunch. As a sweet alternative, the challah French toast entree hits the spot with thick pillow like bread that’s crisp and sweet on the outside. The house cured bacon is thick cut and unique. All the coffee, espresso, and latte options are served to order.
TFB is one of the most underrated and consistent restaurants in Austin. The brunch options, baked goods, and burger are all top quality. With so many restaurants in Austin being difficult to get a reservation, TFB is my go to.
Greatly overrated. Waitress was cool, but service overall was bad. They brought a glass with a full lipstick stain on it, they replaced it with another glass that was also weirdly stained. They took our orders and came back to change it Twice because they run out of the products. Brought a bowl of yogurt and cereal but didnt bring a spoon. Took them too long to bring it. Everyone else on the table was halfway their own plates. Croissant were cold and not that good. Pancakes were OK. Overpriced for the quality and service.
I have nothing but absolute praise for this establishments excellence 🙌🏾 From the food to the service to the atmosphere... Such a pleasurable experience all around . Thank you Texas French Bread for your thoughtfulness. Excited for the next time to sit under your gigantic oak tree with lights and eat so slowly the delectable bites 💓
Sugar cinnamon croissant was ok.The baguettes at Sour Duck are betterNo roast date on the Andersons Coffee from Costa RicaCard machine wasnt working
I usually come here every weekend on my day off to get pastries. i fell in love with them when i first moved to austin 6 months ago. however, this morning the service was completely horrible, quality of the food was off and they didnt even bother to make my drinks correctly. completely overpriced for their main food dishes and i will not be coming back after the rude service i got from the staff at the window. im upset because i loved their baked goods but its just not worth it to me to go out of my way to come here anymore.
I get the ciabatta from them at the farmers market and it is so soft and fresh every time.I absolutely love how they use all organic ingredients in all of their breads!
The food was exquisite, the service was delightful, and the setting was lovely. We dined in their garden and both is us ordered from their features. The meal was perfect.
What might come off as seemingly pricey, it ensures good quality food, service, bread and delicious pastry’s (if you get them before they sell out)Also if you’re coming after 11am on a weekend, expect a wait, everyone wants to eat here
Came here last weekend with a some friends on a Saturday morning. We called ahead and got a time for about 45 minutes later. We had drive by this place many times and didn’t know that the place occupied as much space as it did.Even though it was a relatively hot day the patio seating kept relatively cool with all the cover. The place was really nice and had a nice vibe to it. After being seated it was about 10 minutes before we were brought any water which was pretty inconvenient. After a while we got our order in and from there our food was about another 20-30 minutes. The food was pretty good, but unfortunately portion sizes were pretty small. I enjoyed the meal, but still a bit hungry after with an omelette and French toast split. While we enjoyed our experience and our waitress was super nice, the service itself wasn’t great. We had one refill on waters which we downed right away and we were there over an hour. We also had to ask to receive our check from another server.Fortunately at the end they brought extra cookies which we got to try, but the weren’t all that good, but much appreciated. May give another chance in future, but wasn’t impressed on first visit.
Highly recommend this place for brunch. No wait for the garden at 10am on a Saturday. Heaters near most tables. French toast, pancakes, and tostadas all were delicious. We loved the potatoes. Coffee was good as well. Service is fast. Do note the 20% tip is auto added to your bill. Parking is on site.
Texas French Bread is nice. Like really really nice. And expensive.Beautiful large outdoor dining area.
When you charge $16 for a sandwich:- Make it with the requested bread - minus 1 star- Dont forget to add cheese - minus 1 star- Dont serve it with stale chips - minus 1 star- Dont charge $16 dollars for a sandwich - minus 1 star- The bread that came with it, while incorrect, was really good - plus 1 star
We waited around 40 minutes on a Saturday which was expected. Maybe our hopes were too high, because of the reviews. We waited another 30 minutes for the food, “it looked good”.... but it tasted meh. Omelet was cold and flavorless, potatoes were good though. Latte was good as well. In my opinion it wasn’t worth the wait nor the $45 brunch for two.
This bakery is a classic Austin favorite in West Campus near UT. The Texas French Bread has a dining area where students and parents alike love to hang out. Delicious and fresh bread abound. Easy street access and ample parking spaces. Be prepared for a weekend brunch crowd as parking can be a challenge.
8.99 for a latte. I got a chai tea latte (which was bomb) with two espresso shots (.50 each) and subbed almond milk (1.00), and guess what?? I got a regular chai tea latte, no espresso, no almond milk, and an automatic 20% tip added to my bill for the affordable price of 9 dollars!!!!!! WOW!
Really enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich. Portions are good for the price. Servers in garden were pleasant but could have come by more often.
I wake up in the middle of the night craving Texas French Bread.Their baked goods are phenomenal and the ambiance is very cozy, rustic chic. Cannot wait to visit Austin again so I can stop in again!
TFB is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I’ve lived in Austin all my life and have seen many restaurants come and go, including many locations of Texas French Bread over the years. This is one i hope is around forever. I grew up eating the lunch special with a chicken salad sandwich and ginger snap cookie and still crave it daily. The dinner service they offer is not only cozy and intimate but also consistently amazing food, always locally sourced and in-season. The people there are welcoming and kind and at times it feels more like eating at a great (and very talented) friends home more than a typical restaurant. One with really great taste in wine, no less. I can’t recommend highly enough. It’s a long-time Austin treasure in a town that’s changing so fast it’s hard to keep up. Go there, order as many things and you can, and never skip the butterscotch budino.
Nice cafe, good food.
After enjoying a great breakfast at TFB last Sunday, we returned with friends on Thursday evening for a delicious dinner. The setting is so lovely, service is excellent - our waiter was very attentive. We will return! Its so nice to see our local restaurants working hard to continue doing business and making customers feel safe along with having an enjoyable (normal) evening.
Wow. Great bakery. Fast service great food.
Delicious pastries and bread! Since I found them at the Mueller Farmers Market I visit them everytime Im in Austin.
A bit on the upscale brunch side of the spectrum, but I love it none the less. Really good coffee and caffeinated drinks to hold up the cafe aspect. Really cute interior design with the service as attentive and friendly professional as you’d want your laid back, Austin brunch spot to be. And the bread. My wife and I get our bread here. Always baked perfect!
Great outdoor patio, quality food.
Yes, their food is delicious. The only gripe I have is that they are charging an additional 20% gratuity fee for their service, not for groups of ten or more at a table. The tip should be given by the customer if the table service was excellent and satisfactory, not for standing on the takeout line. Does McDonalds charge a tip fee for ordering chicken mcnuggets? I know these are hard times for restaurants, but for a restaurant that charges 2-3 times more for their food --yes, the food is made from scratch--tipping should be determined by the customer. The restaurant does claim on a handwritten carboard sign, but it would be better to ask the customer if they would like to donate or add a tip for their employees. Again, a customers choice. Awkward!
Terrible service and the food was okay.
Get there early if you want full selection. Check your takeout order because they mess it up. Pastries are good.
Excellent breakfast, and outside seating.
Good burger
Really impressed! The food was really good. Our eggs were cooked beautifully, and the toast was awesome. The espresso was ok, definitely better than a lot of breakfast places. However, they certainly have a serving issue. I saw many people complain about slow service, and they even forgot my friends coffee.I understand there are rushes, but theyre easily predictable, so I would assume youd have more people on hand to take care of it.Furthermore, I feel that there should be a more streamlined system for orders. It doesnt make sense to have so many orders be forgotten.Overall, I thought the food was very good, but there are just a few issues with serving efficiency!
Splendid collection of pastries and bread. Friendly staff.
Amazing service!Amazing atmosphere!Amazing food!I loved everything!10 out of 10; will be coming again to try breakfast. That being said, the 2 $$ symbol rating should probably be closer a to 3 $$$ symbol rating
The food used to be reasonably priced and taste good but now the food is absurdly expensive and the quality is worse
Everything is fantastic here, from the pastries & coffee to the bread (naturally). Everything is pristine & fresh, and the service is great. Also, great atmosphere for dining in (patio area in back is great!).The gingersnaps are top notch.
Delicious pastries and bread! They currently have some grocery items not easily available at the stores. Easy pickup at their window or order ahead for contactless pickup.
This restaurant is my favorite. I eat in a lot of restaurants but to this place I go the most. The team is very attentive and the cuisine they cook is so appetizing. I would always prefer to have a good dinner here. I highly recommend this place.
Way overpriced. Just go to iHop. Its not all that different and will cost you 1/3.
The Best bakery in Austin!! Awesome bread for brunch and meals!!! A variety of bread will satisfy your meals. Especially the oatmeal bread which we got recommended was really soft and good for sandwiches!!
My experience here was great. Our server was so attentive and nice and she helped us with every aspect to make our dining experience better. The bolognese was awesome. Definitely come here!!
Food and service was good. Covid precautions adequate.
I judge a french restaurant on their ability to create a good baguette and this was the worst I have ever had from flavor to texture. Where is the crisp!
This place is the one of the best breakfast places in Austin. Amazing vibe!!!Fresh bakery items are buddle of happiness and will help you start your day with so much positively.
The service here is excellent, and the bread is amazing. As soon as I stepped in I was greeted with some fresh bread to try. I told them it was my first time here. Its a very comfy place to relax and have breakfast or lunch. The waiters do care about your service here.
The decor is relaxing, leaning towards romantic. This establishment nicely bridges the gap between laid-back bakery and elegant place to take someone special for a nice glass of wine. Staff is cordial. Oh yeah, and the food is great!
Would come here a lot for coffee, espresso was always pretty good, baristas were talented. Would get cute drawings likes swans or turkeys on my coffee. Last couple of times I went In it had noticeably dropped in coffee. I asked around apparently the owner fired the only person who understood the espresso machine. You would think that’s something the owner would take the time to learn and teach their staff. Much better options within 3 blocks of coffee is all you want.
It doesn’t get much better than this. Amazing baked goods, chill authentic austin atmosphere, and Fantastic service. An Austin institution that just gets better and better.I stopped in today to get an apple galette and interacted with two of the nicest people ever at the counter... Annie and her coworker made my day!Thank you!!
I guess it wasnt our lucky day today. I rarely complain, but I was dissapointed. First, we had to remind our waiter about a drink that was forgotten. Second, we had to remind our waiter about an entree that was missing. Third, my hot tea was brought to me in a cup with a lukewarm water with a tea bag that was already retrieved from the packaging. No spoon or saucer to place the tea bag on. I am sorry, but this is not how a tea is served in a hip bistro cafe. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, and the egg was slightly overcooked. Fourth, we sat with the dirty dishes for at least 10 minutes before someone finally noticed and removed them from our table. And the last thing I noticed is that one of the servers had a dirty t-shirt. The only 2 stars I give is for a great coffee and bread.
I love this place! Im glad theyre around the city at some of the farmers markets. Their bread is sooooo good and their service is fantastic.
Gorgeous bistro with delicious baked goods and exceptional customer service. The food is AMAZING and the ambiance is cozy. We will be visiting whenever we visit Austin again. Sending Love from El Paso, TX.
Excellent, fresh food! Nice personable and friendly service!!!! A very pleasant surprise! Highly recommended...
Me and my wife came here after she worked a 16 hour shift and it was absolutely delightful. We came for brunch on Sunday, had mimosas, and deliciously simple breakfast that was perfect. Potatoes well seasoned and cooked. Perfect eggs, and thick cut bacon both soft and crispy. The Challah French toast was fluffy and delicious. If you need a brunch spot for simple American breakfast look no further. With a full coffee bar and excellent selection of menu items you won’t be disappointed.
This is an Austin place. The food is great and the service is nice, but a little weird. The building is something... and really gives the impression of being in an old bakery.I have never been disappointed in the food; it is always great. It can be pricey, but so is everything else in that part of town.Go eat, enjoy a walk around campus and grab a cup of coffee on the drag... That is a Saturday afternoon... I have kids now, so this never happens. Maybe one day I can show them too!
Texas French Bread is an awesome restaurant that is an Austin original and their cuisine is ver inspired. A family run business, they seek to exceed your expectations and are consistently at the top of their game. My wife and I went recently and were delighted at both the ambiance and the delicious meal we had. Also half-price bottles of wine during happy hour is very nice. I strongly recommend this hidden Austin gem.
This place is nothing short of amazing! The folks who manage/own this place are so kind and the bread is really fresh! Highly recommend the breakfast too!
Had a latte and croissant. Latte was decent, 7/10. Croissant was less so, layers had zero definition, there was no shine from an egg wash, and they seemed sightly under baked, 3/10 for the price. I saw a dough flattener over in the corner that they looked like they werent using, so Im hoping it was broken and theyre just doing what they can without it. Id go back if someone wanted to go there for coffee, but I would avoid the croissant for now.
Repeat offender identified! Every time I have been here I have had a great experience. The eggs Benedict is killer. It’s on fresh fluffy white bread that is hard to cut through but worth the effort once you get the bite. Worth. The. Work. Stay away from the front counter filled with baked goods too if you value your current clothing size. Lots of healthy options on the menu. Truly an Austin staple.
I used to live nearby and would stop for a pastry every so often, if they still had any. I finally sat for a meal not too long ago and was impressed with their speed and attentiveness. The space itself is antique and natural and feels very welcoming to anybody, whether casual diner or fancy date. Reasonable amount of parking in the back and great selection of pastries and other goods at the counter. Wine and beer available, too.
Everything we ordered was great. So fresh and flavorful. The fresh baked bread and butter was a tasty treat. So glad we opted to share the butterscotch pudding that was awesome. Cant wait to return!
Everyone at our table was enjoying everything. The staff was very friendly and kind. This place has a good design. This place has positive reviews for a reason.
My goodness, the food here is delicious - carefully considered and interesting flavors. Of course a little pricey, so its best for a special night out. The servers were really nice and easy to talk to. We even received complimentary baked goods on our way out. You can bring your own drink of choice, which is neat. The atmosphere was homey, clean and beautiful. We loved everything we ordered.
Horrible service.
Bakery and deli. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They bake all of their bread and sweets in house. The half and half lunch special is just the right amount of food at a decent price. They have a good selection of vegetarian items. The soups are usually non-vegetarian so I like to order a salad and sandwich.
One of my favorite places to grab a muffin, sandwich or a coffee (they do great hearts). I love the atmosphere. They are a bit pricey, but the food is really good and seems fresh!
So good and so friendly!!! Love taking friends and family here as well as colleagues
If you want mustard on your sandwich better bring your own - all they have is honey mustard. It tasted a little odd on my BLT.Edit: Dijon would have been lovely! Ill make sure to specify next time.
A star for ambiance, another star for the bread and a decent croissant. The cappuccino I received was not good (very little foam). The cantaloupe had a faint taste of lox. So no stars for value/quality there. Unfortunately, the service was also subpar. I asked a couple of questions about the pastry offerings behind the counter (if there is a menu describing the selection, it was not offered to me) and the person behind the counter was not very helpful. After having tried a loaf of bread from here before, I thought the restaurant experience would be much better.
I went there with family on a Saturday for brunch not knowing what to expect, but the banana pancakes I had were really-REALLY good and huge. Even though their menu is a bit limited, we agreed that this place left our bellies beyond satisfied. Great customer service as well!
We had a great evening at TFB! The chilled zucchini soup was new and special. The market salad was generous with such fresh lettuces. The lamb with the sweet potato was really excellent. We love their wine selection. No room for dessert.
The food is decent, if not overpriced. Besides that, my only real problem is having those pretentious French in Texas.
