If youre looking for a Starbucks alternative, this place is it. Much more limited menu, but unique coffee drink options you cant get anywhere else. Had a rose coffee and a summer-only one that tasted a bit minty. Quality ingredients and interesting tastes. Absolutely worth trying for anyone whos even a tad bit adventurous.
First time here. Stopped in for a coffee with a friend. On the positive, there were 4 dark coffees to choose from at 3 pm. Server was helpful although a little unenthusiastic. Pricey - $4.70 +tax for medium size coffee ($2 more than Starbucks!). Tip jar there, but did not feel inclined because they pretty much did their basic job (pour a cup of coffee) and the minimum wage here is $15 per hour. So I guess that the wage rate and high rent in a prime Bethesda location explain the coffee cost. Good people watching spot from the outdoor seating area.
Very unique coffee shop. good espresso, well worth the wait, and certaintly better than Starbucks.
Coffee I go out of my way for. Truly hand crafted -- every cup. Excellent variety of roast levels. Ordering on the app is such a fun experience! Seeing who is hand crafting your beverage, when they start and finish, etc. This place does an excellent job of showing their commitment to limiting the spread of COVID-19. Wish there were more locations in DC!
Everything is over the top spectacular - the service, the atmosphere, the food, the wine selection.
Bismillah FallI was picking up a order... And there was 2 young girls with a mediocre customer service....
The worst coffee experience! They got my order wrong! Made me wait for 30 minutes tk correct it and were rude
Unique blends of coffee! I typically get tea but had to try it and was not disappointed!
Great new addition to Bethesda Row! Love seeing this SF coffee shop branching out into the DC Metro area.Family friendly - kid’s corner with chalkboard, kids table, books... I was able to bring in my stroller...Ample seating - communal table, tables, arm chairs... plugs to charge available under the bench seating!Order at the counter first, then pay. You can customize your drink with amount of cream (or milk, or non-dairy milk) and sweetness (sugar or honey).Very reusable coffee cup friendly.Baristas are very personable!
OMG Philz.... Omg.Philz was my go to in CA. And I am so happy they made it out here! This location is my favorite. Drinks are always on point. Service is friendly and excellent. Love their pride flag that they keep out all year round, not just pride month! The flavors Philz comes up with are home for me. I love the Middle Eastern inspired drinks. My favorites are....Iced Coffee RoseIced Mint MojitoAnd they dont charge extra for non-dairy milks! The absolute BEST!
I always get the chai tea and it is absolutely delicious 😋
When I visited over a year ago, I enjoyed some of the besthand crafted pour-over coffees I’ve had, along with excellent multigrain avocado and boiled egg toast seasoned with za’atar. Looking forward to more visits to any of their stores because their focus is obviously all about doing things well.
Great coffee and lattes. Tbe staff were great
Awsome as usual. One of my very favorite places. People are great, service is excellent and the coffee is out of sight! 😃👍👍
The minty mojito coffee was great. It was very refreshing and tasty. The baristas were super nice and friendly, as well as the cashier. The atmosphere was great too. It would be a great place to study, get work done, or just relax, read, and enjoy some food and coffee. I highly recommend Philz coffee if you’re in Bethesda.
Been a fan since San Francisco. Love this place and desperately missed it on the east coast. The taste is still as great as ever, there’s no coffee that beats Philz coffee. If you’re serious about your coffee then this is definitely a place for you to check out. They’re always clean, and they have ordering off the app and I’m happy to be a loyal Philz customer. I’ve never been disappointed nor ever felt under appreciated. Customer service is always a top priority for them.
I’ve been in a few times and have been so impressed! The coffee is so good (tried hot and iced) and the service is excellent! The space is pretty relaxed. As a Bay Area native I definitely appreciate a little slice of home here in Maryland. One thing is throwing me off though, and that’s the compostable cups and lids. In CA there are plenty of places with landfill, recycling, and compost bins. But in Bethesda there is no compost bin. So it feels weird to have eco friendly materials but not a way to dispose of them as intended. Because I’m weird, I decided to look up the manufacturer info while I enjoyed my coffee. It seems like the cups and lids are not recyclable. The next best option is trash, but that’s not ideal either. Maybe the shop can add a compost option?
Excellent coffee! Every cup of coffee is individually ground, brewed, and crafted for each customer. The breakfast/snack selection is fresh and tasty as well.
The coffee is good but my 5 stars is also for the friendly staff :o)
Terrible customer service experience. Ordered a yerba mate which came with two sprigs of mint in the drink. Wasn’t expecting mint, so we asked that the drink be remade without the mint, but were chastised for not paying close enough attention to the menu. The staff indicated that a mint leaf was present next to the yerba mate on the menu, and therefore we should have expected there to be a prodigious amount of mint. Staff refused to remake the drink, and made us feel to be stupid for asking. Also, as a coffee shop, didn’t know what a blonde roast was.
Waited 20 minutes for 2 coffees and they weren’t busy at all.
Every Philz is amazing but reviewing this location to s/o Hana who made my friend & my decaf mint mojito & gingersnap! Decaf coffees aren’t always the tastiest & yet she made them taste bombMint mojito & gingersnap with creamy oat milk is GOAT would highly rec Philz ♡ their drinks have a high caffeine content for anyone needing a pick me up
Great coffee that can be ordered in advance and quickly picked up. With COVID there is no in store dining. A table is used as a service counter at the main door, so you will be unable to enter. Both hand sanitizer and social distancing markers are in place. Excellent hot and iced coffee, which is perfect on a hot summer day. Check out their easy to use App to order in advance and minimize your wait time.
I love their mocha — doesn’t need any additional sugar on top of the chocolate (I like things a little less sweet). Their coffee is a little expensive, but if you bring your own thermos it’s a good deal. If you love hazelnut coffee you will love their Philtered Soul blend
Delicious drinks made with care, and such friendly staff. You can tell they truly care about customer service and satisfaction, and will go above and beyond to make sure you experience (and your drink) are top quality. Definitely my new favorite spot!
Great coffee with a friendly staff. The space is bright with lots of seating. It can be a little loud, but not deafening. A good place to meet, hang out, and do work. I havent used it myself, but they also offer online order ahead.
Quite a change of pace compared to all other coffee shops. You customize your coffee order. They make your cup of coffee. They add cream and sugar for you. You taste the cup of coffee in front of the barista. If that cup of coffee is not too your liking, they will make another cup for you. You pay for your cup of coffee at your own pace. We really enjoyed their coffee. The best way to describe the experience is that this coffee shop is very relaxed and is full service for each and every customer. You certainly pay for that service and that every enjoyable cup of coffee. Nevertheless, the experience at Philz Coffee was a memorable one for all the right reasons. As an added bonus, there are many electrical outlets for your laptop, tablet, and phone throughout the place. Enjoy your experience at Philz Coffee !
Very cute laid back spot. The food is taste and it the vibes are great. Will definitely come back.
Great coffee, no doubt at all. It better be for $5 for a large cup. No typo. 4.88 for a large cup of coffee. It was excellent, service is very good they take coffee and themselves extremely serious. Would have give 5 start if not for the price and the warehouse design.
I wish to give a low rating because of my bad experience. It is vegan friendly place. We tried both dark roast and medium roast coffee menus. So in total 3 coffees between 2 of us. We could not taste the flavor of the original coffee and neither the syrups or fruit. It was all over powered by the burnt coffee flavor. It might just be the current batch or the barista. But its not fair on our first visit here. I might come down again but I have less chances bumping up the rating compared to other coffee places I know are amazing.
Favorite coffee shop in the DC area, with something for everyone, even tea drinkers. Staff is always helpful and kind, even when its busy. Personally, Id say the high quality is worth the price and nice to splurge every now and then.
Awesome coffee and great service. This is pour over coffee only -- no espresso drinks. But there are drinks with flavors added. Ginger snap and mint mojito are great. A bit pricey but worth it if you want to treat yourself.
Good coffee. Good service
Best coffee in DC. A bit pricey but still the best !!
I am completely addicted to their coffee. This chain is huge in California and I recently moved back to the area and was so sad I wouldnt have Philz anymore and low and behold Im walking thru downtown Bethesda and what do I see! A PHLIZ! I was so excited! I absolutely love this place
Great service! Fun menu options. Nice restrooms. Stroller friendly.
Spacious with lots of different searing options. Mix of students, parents and corporate types. Attentive staff.
Dirty chai was great. So was the medium blend pour over that the barista recommended. Great place to work. So glad Bethesda finally has a proper coffee shop. FYI- take advantage of all the discounts available! $1 off if you bring your own travel mug and 10% off for first responders and military (with ID).
Great place to meet someone for a cup of coffee. Staff is very knowledgeable, the coffee is delicious, and this location is very clean and well-lit.
They have hand drip coffe not regular other latte one. But the place is cozy and cool.
The Mint Mojito made by Ian was soooooo good!
Fell in love with the mint mojito when I tried Philz in CA a few years ago. When we moved back to the area, I did not find this similar drink till they opened up their first store in DC area and eventually now so conveniently located in Bethesda. Apart from their drinks and healthy snacks and food items, unlike many other large chains, Philz seems to be running with a philosophy of one customer at a time.I had a small issue during one of my visits and the Store Leader reached out without a delay. He took the time to understand and correct the problem. If they continue this customer-centric focus, while delivering the same quality of drink, this brand has a lot of growth potentials. Note to corporate - find more Store Leaders like you have one in Bethesda and empower them to continue to build a strong brand with one customer at a time.
Theres a cozy, spacious lounge. The drinks taste great and are new and interesting! I particularly love the Mint Mojito, the Rose coffee, the Gingersnap, and the Vanilla Tesoro. The baristas are friendly and warm!
My favorite coffee spot! Gingersnap is amazing.
The best place for coffee in town! Great service by Blake! You’ll be ecstatic!
Nice outdoor delivery system
Hella exciting to have a Philz in Maryland. One of the dopest coffee spots in the nation! Loved seeing the inclusivity at this location. Staff are wonderful. felt as welcoming as the locations in the Bay. Hype to have this here for when I come home to visit!
Very friendly team, cozy environment, and great options for decaf-great tasting decaf is hard to find. But Philz has it!
Good coffee, not enough seating. Bethesda has desperately needed a little coffee shop competition, there is only one half-decent spot (Quatermaines), so this place is welcome.
It might be a touch expensive. It feels like buying cocktails, but its worth it. When compared to similar establishments, it really shines.
The line and checkout system was very inefficient and all of the cloth seating (couches and chairs that aren’t wooden stools) are VERY dirty...stains, crumbs, wet spots, who knows. Was hoping to stay for a bit of time and do work but it was so unappealing I left.
Probably the best coffee out there. Wish they had more locations.
Coffee was great, nice building, and the fact that this is a chain makes me excited to visit more when Im closer to home
It was my first time visiting Philz Coffee and the staff as so friendly! The coffee was amazing and the pastries look amazing too!
Latte drinkers beware. If you are a coffee purist Philz Coffee is a perfect location to get a cup. Many blend options.
Love this place, their philosophy of making sure you enjoy your cup, and delicious coffee!! Wish I had one in MN!
Awesome coffee, nice shop, with a kids corner!!! Thanks for being awesome.
Great place too meet friends around a nice cup of coffee
Fresh good coffee with a cool staff.
Good and nice ppl too
Great location no starbucks i 100 yds!
Most AMAZING coffee ever!! Calm atmosphere loved it!
Philz specializes in pour-over coffee (sorry, no espresso drinks). But dont let that deter you! Their coffee is truly gourmet, with over 15 blends to choose from, and each aspect of your drink -- from cream and sugar levels/options to mixing your own blends and spices -- is customized by your barista. They ask that you try your drink before leaving the bar, and they are very insistent on remaking your drink if youre not satisfied with it. If its youre first time, the baristas go through a quick orientation with you and help you choose the right blend for you. You can also ask them for recommendations. Dont worry, you can always ask for a different drink if you dont like what they suggest. Philz also has some of the best iced coffee (can be made with all of their blends), brewed in a specific way to make sure your drink doesnt taste watered down. The most popular and highly recommended is the Mint Mojito, made sweet and creamy. This branch is similar to others in DC and the Bay area (home to the original Philz and most Philz branches). It offers a comfortable setting with lots of chairs, couches, tables, and plugs. Pastries, sandwiches, and snacks are also available. Each Philz is decorated to fit the personality of the area its in. This one is welcoming to families, friend meetups, a quick coffee break with co-workers, or camping out and working solo for a few hours. There are others in the DC area worth checking out as well: Adams Morgan (the first Philz ever on the east coast), Navy Yards, Dupont Circle, and Ballston (opening sometime Jan 2019).
Very good coffee and great atmosphere. A little more expensive than most other coffee spots.
Philz is the absolute best.
Loved it!!!
Super friendly staff and great coffees
Great service, awesome Quiche and coffee
Over the top and delicious.
