Excellent bike shop! Extremely accommodating, friendly, and very thorough service. I ride across town for them to work on my bike, instead of any other shops. Store is well stocked with accessories also- which makes it fun to pop in.
This is a great shop! Everyone was very helpful, knowledgeable, and straightforward. I’ll be coming back for my future needs and would recommend this place to anyone who doesn’t have a lot of bike knowledge but is ready to ride.
Very satisfied with my Bianchi purchase from here!
Friendly staff! I went almost in closing hour for some lights for my bike and they guide me thru to get the best option for my budget/ and needs, not only the expensive ones. Plus they mount the lights without any extra charge. So 5 stars for them!
Have loved this place for over a decade, especially great for advice and parts for practical, commuter biking.
Little to no understanding no will no skill or knowledge constantly upselling you another group of amateurs in the city of amateurs. No sir I dont need to buy a whole new wheel because I have two broken spokes...
Of all the bike shops Ive been shopping at,this one in particular seems to be the only place that has the parts and fastest repair time.
Whatever issue you might have with your bike, the staff at Boulevard Bikes always seems to have a solution.
Very knowledgeable and attentive. Good service and a great deal financially
Brought my bike in for a flat and a tune-up, expecting to hear it was in bad shape. Everyone was very friendly and upfront about the work my bike needed done, and when I went to pick it up from Boulevard Bikes a week later, it was riding like it was new again. Great service, very affordable, and they take their Covid-safety precautions seriously. Will definitely be back!
Was really wowed by the customer service at Boulevard Bikes yesterday. I came in looking for a new saddle after my old one jangled loose & fell off while I was riding (that sucked). The owner showed me a variety of saddles to choose from, all very affordably priced, giving some recommendations based on the modified structure of my bike. He also tightened up my brakes a bit, oiled the chain, and other nice stuff to keep things in working order. Totally happy with my experience & will visit again when I need something. Also, one note: they are doing a strict one at a time rule at the shop, so expect to spend a little bit of time in line waiting to come in. Appreciated this extra safety in pandemic times.
Excellent place to buy local and this guys rock and also very knowledgeable
I had never been to this bike shop before, but by the suggestion of my friend I went in on Sunday looking for a new bike. The owner (Kevin) was really awesome and really patient with me while I was asking questions about bikes and while my friend was grabbing a few things.I told Kevin my budget and he suggested a great bike that was on sale. They built it for me and I picked it up today. Again, he was really great adjusting the seat and making sure it fit me well, as well as explaining a few things about the bike I was unfamiliar with. I am very pleased with my experience. I never write reviews but I felt it was necessary for this experience because it was so great.
So helpful! Explained to me what was going on with my bike and didnt charge for the conversation and oil / air touch up. Love this place
Bad service .Everyone in store seem like they don’t care about their employees, waited almost 30min outside their shop and no one has attend me yet.Review was made :April 27,2021At 5:20
Doug is the man! Took great care on my bike. Ill definitely be coming back for my future bike needs!
Bought a brand new bicycle for full price (no problem). The wheel was stolen and when I went back into the shop the replace it, they gave me a completely different sized wheel (paid full price).... Worst part is I didnt realize it until I wanted to change my tires and noticed the discrepancy. I wouldnt recommend this place for those who dont check every single detail and put trust into a local shop. Pity because Id rather support a small store.... Highly advise against this store.
First time I came in here they charged me a $15 service fee after they filled my tires, second time I wasn’t charged anything, so now I’m certain that was a scam. I bought a $20 magnetic light two days ago, which I assured was strong enough to hold. I was biking down armitage yesterday afternoon to the store and once I got there I noticed it was gone. I came back today to explain it to them and they said “well I can’t just hand you a new one”. I think if your product and business is a scam, then you most definitely can hand me a new one. Wow never again. Go to smart bikes. They are 10000x better.
They had what I needed, but unlike many other bike shops, they will not come outside to serve customers, they will only allow 1 customer inside at a time some customers take their sweet time.
Amazing staff! I have interacted with multiple employees among my visits and have always left smiling! They are all very knowledgeable, honest, and interesting! I sold my old bike to them over a year ago and felt I got a very fair price for it. Since then they have taken care of my new bike for bi-annual tune ups and general care. I never feel like they are trying to up-sell me or rip me off, and the pricing always feels reasonable, especially for such reliable service! They remember my bike and always have a complement or something fun to say about it. I couldn’t ask for anything more in my local bike shop.
Have been going to Boulevard Bikes since 2005? 2006? Somewhere around there. Back when it was over on the boulevard and youd see the guys in the back wrenching and rocking out to Steely Dan. The new location on Milwaukee seems to be more spacious (is that correct, Kevin and team?) and theres a small to moderate selection of bikes always on display. Repair prices seem to be on par with virtually every other quality bike shop on the North Side. And in terms of accessories, its an especially great shop for people into touring and the randonneur stuff.
Kevin from boulevard bikes was so wonderful! He was extremely helpful, offering personal experience and clear knowledge on the panniers and front racks I was interested in. Ultimately, guiding me towards the best selection for myself. He installed the rack and helped tweak a lot of little details on my bike improving my fit and bike function. I rode away astronomically more comfortable and secure with my bikes ability to withstand the tour Im about to embark on. They have some excellent brands in stock and lots of cool accessories. Thanks so much for the help!
What an amazing experience! I went in with little knowledge of what was wrong and while the price was higher than expected, more work got done than expected as well. All of this was communicated to me when I picked it up and service was very quick! Thanks a lot for the great work and I will be coming back!
Boulevard is our local shop and we now take all our bikes there to be serviced, even the bikes purchased elsewhere. Kevin and his staff do a meticulous job building and mainting bikes. Their prices are super fair, they are pleasant, and welcoming and friendly to seasoned and new cyclists alike. Cant recommend them enough for all your cycling needs!
Great staff, polite and knowledgeable!Great bike shop for the city!
Super friendly staff who make repairs quickly, and I always feel like they do a lot for what they charge.
I went in here while meeting someone from craigslist to buy a used bike and Mary took time out of her day to assist me in vetting the item. She was incredibly helpful and professional. I will be bringing my future business here!
Im completely new to biking, so I was a little nervous I might get swindled here when I came in to find a basket for my beach cruiser, but the staff here was extremely helpful at making sure I got the right kind of basket for my bike, they installed it, and they made some other adjustments to my bike for a very reasonable cost. My bike is riding much smoother and more comfortably, and my basket is great! :)
Nice people but the prices were crazy! If you have got money to spend, theyll help you. But dont expect service for cheap. They had steel chili peppers for $30. Like, cmon. Also, after seeing the answer to my review and the other negative ones, it seems like the owner is trying to win every review over.
I came here to buy a bike and I got completely set up with all of the equipment I needed to get started. Everyone’s really kind, and they take their time with you which I really appreciated because I was very nervous and apprehensive about cycling in the city.
The workers there are very friendly and are happy to talk through any general questions. I had an overdue tune for my Schwinn, and they did a great job, but I felt it was on the pricey side ($140). Either way, the service was great and the work seems to have been thorough.
Cute, quaint bike shop in Logan Square. They have 10-12 bikes for sale, a good variety of accessories, and do all kinds of repairs. Great location right in the square!
Went looking to buy my first bike ever. I had no idea what I wanted. One of the employees answered all my questions and educated me on the bike I would need and why I would need it based on what I told him.I chose a Bianchi. I was allowed to test ride multiple bikes before making my choice. No pressure. No rush. I didnt feel like I was being given any up sell treatment. Felt like I had amazing landed in the right bike shop. Ill go back for sure.I LOVE my new bike. Its not fancy or flashy, but its my bike. Feels great. :-)
I bought my bike here a year ago. The staff were helpful and useful but not all up in my face. The bike has been awesome. When I come back for service, its the same people that sold me the bike. Theyve helped me keep my bike in shape since ive bought it with free mini tune-ups.
Top shop!
I always get friendly service and excellent repairs. The mechanics are knowledgeable and efficient. This is a great bike shop!
Great selections in a variety of prices. They were welcoming and wanted to help even though I wasnt ready to buy.
If you are new to biking in Chicago, this is great place to stop in. The staff were really friendly and explained the basics to me. The selection is really nice. The staff will help you find the right bike for your comfort.
Ive been wanting to buy a road bike for years but kept putting it off because I found the road biking community to be a little intimidating.Mary was super helpful! Immediately put me at ease, answering all my questions with no hint of snarkyness or even an eye roll. She fitted me with a 48 cm bike - a full four cm smaller than all the online shops/ blogs recommended. Once I started riding that black beauty I knew I had found the bike for me.Im so glad I ended up buying my first bike from a local bike shop rather than off craigslist or an online store.Other than the amazing customer service, great prices, and knowledgeable employees, Boulevard Bikes offers a ton of free bike maps, Amtrak guides, and even free pamphlets detailing Illinois bicycle laws. Even though Im still kinda nervous to take the bike out on my own, with everything I learned yesterday Im sure Ill be fine. Thanks again!
Very knowledgeable staff– especially regarding dynamo hubs and lights. I just wish they carried helmets by the brand, Thousand.Edit: reducing from 5 stars to 3 due to deplorable customer service. I just called and spoke with Mary. I asked a simple question about whether I need to make an appointment to have my rim trued (on a bicycle that I recently bought from their shop for $1600). Like shes done numerous times before, she refuses to give me a straight answer, she insults me, and insinuates that I must be insane for asking such a stupid question. Please consider training for Mary in basic customer service. She is sabotaging all of the hard work that the other employees have put into the reputation of the shop.
Never posted a review before, but motivated because of such terrible service and treatment. This place is close by and I needed a new seat clamp – so I had to ride over without a seat, which will be important later . . .I called ahead to specifically ask if they had quick-release seat clamps. I had an expensive seat and wanted to be able to take it with me vs leaving it with my ride (which was total junk/loaner because I had recently had my real ride stolen). The guy confirmed they had it so I rode over. Once I got there the hipster staff could care less about helping me. When I finally flagged their attention, mentioned I called about a clamp the guy reluctantly walked over to help. He took one look and told me you dont want a quick release but walked off with it before I could tell him why I wanted a Q/R. He came back with a fixed clamp already on and told me the cost PLUS labor. I told him thats not what I wanted, that I wanted a quick-release . . . and he said you dont want that (like I was a 4 year old ) and besides, they didnt have any in stock . . . did I want it or not. Needing a clamp that day and not wanting to take another seatless ride to yet another place, I paid and left. I felt scammed – tell me you have a part when you dont (just to get me in?), then treat me like an idiot (I didnt need you to put it on and to charge me an extra $10 . . . to put a clamp on?!?). My ride was junk so apparently I wasnt worth the effort. Now I notice all the reviews mentioning how they prey on less experienced people. . . totally true, BEWARE!I will NEVER bring business here again, have actively told other people NOT TO GO HERE EVER, and then decided to take the time to write this review. Consider yourself warned.
Friendly staff and excellent service. My first stop for bike repair.
Thanks for the quick fix!
All I did was buy a tube (cheap!), but the sales person couldnt really answer what I figured were simple questions about fixing up an old bike. I gave him a perfect opportunity to sell me some services and all I got was ummm..aaaahhh...yeah we can look at it if you want...
I do not care for this bike shop, which sucks because this is really close to where i live. Yeah, sure, you work at a bike store, yeah sure you are pretty cool, but does that make you better than me? No. No is sure doesnt. The couple times I have been to this place, they have told me what I should get rather than ask what my riding preferences are and tailor my bike to that. For shame Boulevard Bikes, For shame...
They were helpful and got my bike going quickly. Not much more I could ask for.
No other bike shop in Chicago understands my Pashley like they do. Bought her here 6 or 7 years ago. Shes a bit persnickety in her old age. Damn Brit bits (looking to you Sturmey-Archer)! I have lots of love for many great shops much closer to me for different reasons, different bikes. For my daily workhorse, though, she needs a patient specialist. Love the new space.
They didn’t let me borrow the pump
Please read staff of Boulevard. I am not writing to get vengeance for my experience which I feel most are. Im writing just to tell you that I had high hopes of finding the bike shop that could help me pursue this new passion for biking Ive found in the past 6 months. I asked friends in my work-bike commute group and one of the guys sent me BLVDs way. Look guys(and gal). I was excited, a bit confused, and perhaps a bit too chatty. Not to mention out of respect for your time as I would with any small business I let you know Im just now coming out of a tough financial situation over the past 3 months and my budget is tight. So tight I may have to make some concessions, BUT for all intensive purposes the consumer I am, is without a doubt your TARGET market. However I was treated like a poor, uneducated, annoying, nuisance that went from being excited about putting all kinds of new stuff on my bike, to feeling like I needed to get out of your store as to not waste your time!!?? My question is why would you treat someone that way? Did I miss some pre-qualifying characteristics of who would be a good customer? Did I smell? I spoke for about a minute straight as I arrived and had called before that, but other than just trying to explain I dont know what I could have said or done to deserve this level of respect. I dont want to go into details as its petty but the way I was spoken to and the way I heard the lady employee speak to another customer, is likely the worst example of customer service, business management, etc. Ive seen in person. I doubt you will answer these questions but maybe it would benefit both parties and others thinking about spending their money with you, if you did just that. As always, you guys time as professionals is important and valuable and I appreciate the time your taking in considering a response.Turner
Super helpful and knowledgeable people prices are fair.
I’ve been here a few times over the years: looking to fix my tires, trying to buy a new bike. I’ve never actually gotten any work done here or bought anything because the employees are always so rude. I come in with specific questions about bikes, and they’ve treated me like a poser. Get over yourself, dudes.
My front wheel was slightly out of true so I took it in. 2 weeks later they called to say they couldnt true it and would still have to charge me for labor. Fine. But when I came to pick it up the tube and tire were off. When I asked why they said they could put them back on but it would cost extra. Yeah. Worst bike shop Ive been to in Chicago.
Great little bike shop that will accept your Active Transport Alliance card. Prices are higher than some other local shops (like smart bike parts) but the friendliness and quality of work is worth it to me.
Great service, compassionate and knowledgeable, the commitment shows and competive prices. Wont try to sell you a Cadillac if all you need is a Honda
They do not permit people get in if the budget is not enough .!!! Bad service
Slightly more expensive than other shops in the area but fantastic work and they really care about your safety when you get back on the road
This is the bike shop for you. If you looking for a place to hang out and have a fun time while you waiting for your bike the be fix. THis is the place for you. Owner will take the time and help you with all your needs.
I went in for air n prices for tune up, and walked out being accused of wasting an invoice. She(short service girl) very rude n loud! Tried to push service on bike when explained only seeking prices...seek another alternative!
We had our bike chain replaced and purchased a few accessories while we waited. THe shop was clean and everyone was very helpful.
Knowledgable and trustworthy mechanics, a great selection of products, and a super friendly vibe.
Wow! Awesome help Anna. Thank you.
I went in to get my tire fixed and the employee knew her stuff! She fixed it super fast, told me of some other minor things I need to get fixed and oiled up the chain for me. All for a super low price!!
Very helpful!
These guys try to take advantage of the common persons lack of knowledge about bicycles. The two times I have tried this store they have come up with at least two ways of charging me more for something I didnt ask for nor need. Save your money go anywhere else in the city these guys are scammers.
Flew in from UK and had broken my rear derailleur... They were sooo busy on a Saturday afternoon however fitted me in, fixed everything (including sourcing parts) and showed me how to set up. My only negative is they dont charge enough- service that good should be more expensive! Next time in Chicago Ill be in!
Great bike shop. Kevin the owner has so much patience and expertise.
Had a bad experience a few years ago. Went back recently and everyone was great
Great place! Awesome, and helpful, staff!
Phenomenal shop full of helpful people
Very friendly shop. Will be back for repairs I cant do myself.
Really kind people, really helpful
I really like this shop
Great shop! Locally owned!!
The staff is friendly, they got a bike stand air pump that any one is allowed to use. Their inventory is ok, they got what you need for your bike.
The workers are friendly and help out well with what ever you need.
Good place
A+ core shop
This place is super great! Really helpful and friendly staff.
