Had a great visit to Ipsento! The park next door is beautiful and they take full advantage of this with their big open window to the outside. We enjoyed our donuts and coffee, but if you’re not willing to pay the higher prices, go elsewhere! The plexi glass at the cash register made it hard to speak with the employee, but they were nice enough. Pricey and a little uppity of a vibe, too.
Came in on a morning after my workout and ordered a rose cardamom latte. Excellent and the highlight of my morning. Definitely an acquired taste
Edit 6 months later: Yes still 5 stars and like a fine wine Ipsento gets better with age. I love seeing familiar faces working there and their espressos seems to have balanced out into a well dialed experience.A Chicago Staple.______________This is a spot where Baristas will go to. Industry people can be fickle but Ive ran into so many people here and have had some truly great times at Ipsento. *Clap*Great coffee and the staff is fantastic. When the espresso is dialed its in the top 3 in Chicago.
The coffee is good, but they charge too much for oat/almond milk. It should be the same price as regular milk.
The barista was very helpful in suggesting drinks and led us to order the cardamom rose latte along with the honey lavender latte - both of which were delicious! The atmosphere is exactly what you would want in your local neighborhood coffee shop! The barista also went above and beyond to offer us stools when she noticed us standing waiting for seats, we’ll definitely be back!
Super friendly staff, good pastries and wonderful service.
Dont order Too Good from this place. After waiting for 10 minutes they’ll say oh that’s weird they keep sending people here we don’t have any more orders left. They close in 90 minutes from now on a weekday..As a member of the hospitality industry I use this app to sample new places I might frequent and use it to judge how the staff treats everyone who walks in, take out or dine in, customer service matters. Wont be sending our clients over here.✌️
Friendly service, hip atmosphere, good coffee (ipsento latte specifically) and good breakfast sandwiches. Sandwiches take about 10 minutes to prepare, as a note. Would recommend checking out
Ive visited this place a few times, either walking by the 606 or right after yoga since its just walking distance from both. The lattes are good, a bit of too much foam on one but overall good. As for the mini donuts they were also good and are of different flavors to try, they are prepackaged so they are readyto just take. The place looks nice, clean and the preparing area is big, two people were working and one kinda. Got everything i ordered, it was correct and in good time. Try the Nutella latte.
S’mores donut was pretty tasty, much smaller than I expected but still good but the people working there were very nice and the atmosphere was perfect for a coffee shop
A welcome and invigorating stop off the 606 trail. The mini donuts are the perfect treat after a long stroll.
Decaf latte $6 for a tiny 8 oz cup. And a tip on top of that. The space and wifi was great, the latte, too. But overpriced and dirty tables with disinterested staff.
Our biggest complaint was the size and cost of the donuts. If we didnt order donuts, I wouldve given them 4 or 5 stars. The donuts are comically small for the price. Over $1 for a donut the size of a half dollar. The quality of donuts was okay, nothing to write home about. If youre just looking for coffee though, we enjoyed our drinks. We got the nitro cold brew and the iced vanilla latte. Both were high quality and not overpriced!
Theyve definitely gone downhill. The coffee is decent, but there is no sense of urgency with the employees, so be prepared for a longer wait than in other cafes. I also question how well theyre following thebhealth code. There were two girls behind the counter with long hair that wasnt tied back that kept playing with their hair- one of them handed me my croissant, ran her hand through her hair, then made a customers drink without washing her hands. As someone who cares about food safety, I wont be coming back.
I visited from out of town, and Ipsento was definitely on my list after researching the coffee scene. Further, it was the best coffee I had in Chicago and was an excellent cafe experience overall. Nestled in a vibrant and transforming neighborhood next to the 606 urban trail (which I must assume is the cafes namesake), this is an eminently attractive as well as comfortable space that can accommodate wider array of tastes than most cafes I can think of. Looking for an iced and/or milky caffeine fix while gallivanting along Milwaukee Ave? A fashionable place to socialize with quality local beers? Somewhere to hunker down and work along with a comforting (and carefully executed) Nutella latte? Or, as I certainly enjoy, a destination to try special coffee from people who truly care?Ipsento 606 hits all of those marks and does so entirely fluidly; everything works. And really...the coffee is excellent, worth the trip itself. Youll want to come back for everything else.
It was great and fun with coffee, food, location, and waiters/waitresses. Actually, each time I visited this store, I felt happy and energetic. The coffee and the food they served were both delicious and okay. The location was also tidy, relaxed, and trendy. Even the waiters and waitresses were quite welcoming to the customers and pleasant.
I had a great coffee from this shop. The taste of their coffee was a bitter-sweet, which I like the most. Their barista was so neat and good looking as well. The place was so cozy and relaxing. The music was not too loud and the place was not so crowded as well. This coffee shop is my favorite place in this area.
This is a really cute coffee shop with a bar feel too it. You can have drinks here or work with a laptop and coffee ... Or have an alcoholic coffee drink. The service here is phenomenal. Not pushy just really sweet and friendly. Prices are pretty reasonable. They have a great beer selection and make wonderful siding cocktails. The quesadilla is pretty boring, but thats the only bad thing.
Stopped by this place after another hot chocolate bar was closed for the holidays and I must say Wow! We ordered an Iced Nutella Latte, Basil Mint Mocha, Hot Chocolate, Vanilla Latte, and a dozen donuts.Iced Nutella Latte - I was very surprised! Often these drinks come out too sweet, but this stuck the right balance without being very bitter.Basil Mint Mocha - You can really taste the basil! Recommended as a nice warm drink.Hot Chocolate - Rich and creamy, yum!Vanilla Latte - One of the best lattes I have tasted.Donuts - These are so mini! When I was looking at the reviews I didn’t realize that the donuts were mini because they are so detailed! We bought a dozen and they came in a cute little box.Atmosphere - very warm and comfortable, I could spend a lot of time here!
The place was fine, barista was helpful & nice. My cardamom rose latte was way too much rose & not enough cardamom & it was bitter. I sipped about a fourth of it & then I couldnt take it any more & had to throw it out.😞
I was fond of the Western original, but this one doesnt disappoint. Great for a break on the 606.
Im rating this shop at 4-stars, just because I dont have enough information to fully evaluate it (Ive only been once). The only time I tried Ipsento 606, I was able to have a Guatemalan pourover. The menu offerings for pourover that day were a Honduran and a Guatemalan. Relative to my own tastes, these offerings represent something of a Hobsons choice, so its difficult for me to say how I would have evaluated the shop had I been able to try to some of their other coffees (coffees that are a little closer to my taste preferences). Now, the pourover was meticulously prepared and presented. The shop aesthetic is incredible. I hope to visit again someday, and when I do, Ill hopefully upgrade this review to a five-star review. :)
This coffee shop is on a busy street with several restaurants. My iced chestnut praline latte coffee was tasty, but not quite as good as Id like. The waffle, on the other hand, was delicious. If youre out and about and need a snack, I suggest stopping by for the waffle and a cup of coffee.
The sandwich was good but not worth what they charged. Coffee is fine, but for the price I think there are better options in the neighborhood.
Great space, great service, a bit out of the way so more of a local rather than destination. The coffee was overroasted for my tastes. If you like Peets or Charbucks, you will probably like this. The beans seemed better than either of those and roasted w more care. For those of us who like 3rd wave coffee, get the cold brew. I got an espresso and cold brew.
This coffee shop near me is one of the best places to get coffee. A bit pricey compared to other coffee shops but you get what you pay for. Baristas know what theyre doing and theyre passionate about their craft. This coffee shop also is very well-known for its hospitability. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.
This has got to be one of the best all around coffee shops in Chicago. I’ve had the chance to try just about everything on the menu coffee wise and I’ve never been disappointed. Their espresso is phenomenal and probably my favorite in Chicago. If you are a coffee lover, I would also highly recommend any of their pourover options. It is so evident that they pay an incredible amount of attention to detail in order to craft the best drink possible. A cool perk of this coffee shop is that it also offers a full menu of cocktail, wine and beer options which makes it the perfect place to study, meet up with friends or go out on a date. The music selection is also always vibing; the baristas have complete control and I think this goes along way into creating the perfect environment. If you are a coffee lover and visiting Chicago this shop is a must visit.
I came here with a friend around 1PM on a weekday in May 2018, and it was quite empty. I got a hibiscus berry cold tea and an ipsento donut. I also had half the hibiscus donut. The tea was quite average but good, and the donut was really small. Flavor could have been bolder for sure for the donuts; the frosting on the hibiscus didnt really taste like anything. It was also really expensive; each tiny donut was $1 and the tea was $4. And lots of ice in the cup. They serve the tea in jars though which is nice. I do like the ambience of the place!
The staff straight up just walked out with a line and tons of people waiting on their order who have already paid. The manager just said “we’re not taking anymore orders right now” and walked out without further explanation.
Location, location, location.Fantastic space, right off 606. Unique outdoor space. Delicious coffee and tea drinks.A little pricey.
I got an iced latte and an assortment of mini donuts. The coffee was decent and the donuts were delicious. Free WiFi but make sure to ask for the password. Great open space and chill vibes makes it a great place to work from. My only minor peeve was the music. It was pretty loud for me. But might not be for others.
Waited 25 minutes for a sandwich while the employees prioritized coffee drinks. Someone who ordered after me received their sandwich order long before me. Sandwiches are mediocre and not worth the price, stick to the coffee.
Great food and drinks! But it took 30+ mins to get it even though there were barely any other customers. They forgot about one part of my order and got another part of the order wrong too.
Ipsento latte and the location make this my favorite coffee shop in Chicago!
Pleasant workers and the best coffee ever made. I would highly recommend this place if you want to meet a friend for coffee and a treat or a good lunch.
This is heartbreaking and disappointing. My partner and I met here 2 years ago so we like coming in every year to celebrate. Sadly, the barista today was a bad one. From the beginning, he did not greet us or thanked us and he was so sloppy making our coffees. He got the order wrong. He spilled the coffees, everything was sticky and without any effort to make it presentable. He certainly did not seem to even want to be here. He needs customer service training or find a job he actually appreciates.
I absolutely love this place despite one thing. They have an employee that is extremely condescending and its the same gentleman I have seen over the past year. I dont know its his personality or if he has something against my husband and I. He doesnt ever want to discuss anything in depth about the menu. He has medium length hair, and blue eyes. Does anyone else have this issue? Seriously contemplated contact the owners about this. Its very unfortunate when you have an employee that ruins a pleasant experience at your favorite coffee shop.
First of all, the COFFEE, the COFFEE is simply delicious!! Its SO smooth and theres no bitter taste that I sadly find at many other coffee spots.
Good vibes good lattes
The breakfast we had was really good and very tasty. The cappuccino was even better, the best coffee of the city.
The vibe from the place is so good my six year old, who does not drink coffee, smiles when I say the name. The coffee is perfect. Its a mood changing, joy enhancing, long kiss to the taste buds beverage. Its oh so good. Better than the vibe it almost is.
Had a Nutella latte - so much flavor !!
I recently visited this lovely cafe with a friend for a quick coffee, and the barista taking our order had an unusual vibe. What was shocking to me, however, was his patronizing yell and an unnecessary tiger mom glare towards me when I tried to lower my mask simply to sip my coffee inside the cafe (very far away from employees, mind you, with plexiglass protecting them). I understand we are still going through a pandemic and establishments have their own comfort levels on these issues, but this was completely immature and condescending. Im not sure if this barista was just having a bad day or if thats his personality, but I hope management can take note of this, because as other cafes choose to open up and are very clear about what they are and are not comfortable with, my friend and I will remember this experience and choose the other cafes for our coffee.
Coffee is great, some of the best in Chicago but I think it’s very overpriced and honestly the staff were pretty rude the few times I’ve been in.
Coffee has gone downhill and management treats employees terribly. I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone with morals or respect for others.I’d like to edit this review for clarity: Ipsento responded to this comment in an attempt to co-opt my original message. Yes, management has changed, because they fired everyone are continuing to purge staff. The very people responding to my original review are the people I have an issue with.
The coffee is great! I am a fan of their original cafe but the view of the 606 is superb! Also, it is two blocks closer to where I live. A little more upscale if you are looking for that. I do miss the sandwiches that were made at the original cafe and if I am looking to snag the Thoreau it is not there.
Unimpressive service and food. Unfortunately they do not serve sandwiches after 4:00, and the options become non existent. Likely will not return.
I got an iced vanilla matcha latte with whole milk. It had a little much vanilla but the quality of the milk and matcha made it excellent.Additionally, the vibes in here are immaculate and the baristas are friendly. I will be coming again.
Cozy place to grab a coffee
Such experienced/ knowledgeable staff. Very friendly and willing to answer any and all of your questions. Delicious coffee and pastries!
Fantastic staff and the absolute best latte. I have no idea how they do it, spray with angelic dust or something, but no one can match the coffee quality here. The spot, the people and the quality are at the highest level.
Simple good coffee. 👍
The ipsento latte is one of the best lattes i’ve had this year
This is a great coffee shop with a experienced staff. The coffee is high quality, they have a good menu, the indoor space is decent with lots of natural light. Theyre also situated next to a small park with greenspace and just off the 606 trail (which connects several parks and is, itself, a kind of park)
Had the rose cardamom latte. Simple and charming.
Their peppermint cream latte was delicious, although, we did have a Chai tea latte that was extremely heavy on the cinnamon, it reminded me of fireball, not sure if thats the consistent taste but we were disappointed. The match tea latte is also fantastic!
The coffee is very pricey! Im not sure if the price justifies the taste/texture of the coffee. I ordered the Nutella Latté and the Ipsento Latté. I liked the Nutella Latté better, but it wasnt mind blowingly delicious. The Ipsento Latté was a little too spicy for my liking. Ive had very good lattés with cayenne pepper as an ingredient, so I couldnt help but compare it to what Ive had before. That being said, this café is in the nice location, and I liked the atmosphere inside. I apologize for leaving you with poor review. I hope my honest review helps other potential customers as well as the café.
Very cute parties
Asked for cream for my coffee I just bought rude worker would not give it to me! Definitely won’t be returning here!
Their chai tea is perfectly spicy!
Creative coffee, nice space, and beer
The tea and coffee ☕ were great. The barista catered to my very specific tea requests to a tee. (pun intended). Unfortunately, they were not serving food.
I bought coffee from them last week and there was a Karen complaining about customer service and asking to have the OWNERs number to complain... She never clearly said what the problem is and refused to leave, saying shed come back every day. A worker from the back got me and my friends attention and made our drinks for free, even though they had to deal with such a difficult customer and it wasnt their fault. I think theyre great, and people who have a problem should clearly say what it is, because I think theyre either being petty or misunderstanding the situation.
For that alone they deserve the five stars. I got there right at opening and there was already five people ahead of me. Must be good! I had a delicious cup of Colombian coffee. I also saw some delicious pastries that I cant wait to try on my next visit.
