Metropolis Coffee is my favorite US based roaster. I found this coffee out of state and have struggled to find anything better. Walking into the shop was a dream come true. The cafe did not disappoint. The decor and vibe of the cafe was exactly what Id expect from a trendy coffee shop, but the small touches sets this place apart. Excellent music, unique art and the classic blue espresso machine all added to the feel of the space. The most memorable part of our visit was the exceptional staff. Dani was the stand out. She loved to talk coffee, you could feel her passion for the brand and coffee in general. She glowed when I told her it was my favorite coffee and I could tell she was proud to be a part of it. Ill be back and Im telling everyone I know in the Midwest to make this place a must-see stop. Thank you for your coffee and for employing an inspired staff.
I couldnt have been more disappointed. Walked a mile to get here because the shop boasts of a wide coffee selection (see all the beans they sell in the photo) and a review that said they had amazing pour overs. I thought, This is what I need to punctuate my visit to Loyola! They dont do pour overs. The cashier at the register said they did. Consulting with the one other person behind the bar, he learned they dont. And they only.had one generic medium roast on drip. Not what I wouldve anticipated or what I had hoped for.
Ill never forget the delicious taste of the coffee I ordered here. It only seemed to be addictive! Both the couple who run this shop (the owners) and the staff members are wonderful and extremely supportive. The coffee was delicious, and the pastry was homemade. All is worthwhile! This spot is an absolute must-see. Thank you so much for your excellent service!
Best coffee in Chicago! Their Red Line espresso blend has been a staple in my house for over 10 years. Their Holiday Hullabaloo blend makes the perfect holiday season cup, and makes a solid cold brew as well. The cafe is a bit smaller with the rehab, and the specialty brew bar is gone, but the coffee and the quality remain.
This is a very charming, hip little coffee shop, a great place to have coffee or work on your laptop or whatever, love the atmosphere. The only drinks we had were the black coffee and the mocha, both of which were excellent. The mochas are about $5, maybe 4.50.We also had the cranberry and blueberry muffins (yummy), as well as the almond croissant which has an almond paste center and is absolutely delicious. We had a pastry, a croissant if I remember correctly, that had chocolate in it but wasnt very good cuz very tough, probably been out too long, although there wasnt much chocolate there. On the hole, highly recommended. The muffins are like $2 a piece, dont remember the prices on the other pastry items.
Its a good space with decent coffee, I just wish they were open later, 7pm seems awfully early to close in a spot like this. Loyola is still buzzing with activity till 8 or 9 and theres not many good coffee places this close to campus, seems to me like they could make a killing in that extra hour or two. I get out of classes at 8pm most days and would definitely hang out out here for a bit afterwards if I could even if its just half an hour or so, and Im sure Im not the only one!
Good local place for coffee. Havent been here in quite awhile. I feel it needs a good cleaning and could be updated (at least painted). It seemed a bit dirty to me. While waiting for our order, which took awhile and they completely forgot mine, flies where hovering and inside trash receptacles.
A neighborhood institution! The place was full and felt crowded. Of course masks were off while people were eating. The staff went out of their way to help me with my order and facilitated getting me through the line quickly. I sat outside on the benches drinking my coffee and eating my chocolate chip muffin and it was delightful. I chatted with so many people passing by and it was like a runway for dogs! I miss the tables though. I don’t know why the tables were removed.
They have a great set of coffee options. While the fancier drinks and quiche to eat on site are awesome, their scone/cookie/muffin and large coffee for 5$ is the best option for tasty snack to go on your commute.
Got the iced coffee here. Staff was super friendly and the ordering process was efficient, quick, and easy. The iced coffee was okay, but much more milk than I am used to. It is also very strong, but I like that - just letting others know in case that isnt your thing.
High energy coffee shop. Solid cup of coffee.
I absolutely love this place. The baristas are always super friendly and quick with your order. Their lattes are not too sweet, which I like. ☕️😊
Whoo its delicious! I got the brown sugar cinnamon latte with oat milk. The baristas are so sweet and everyone inside seemed to be enjoying themselves. The place is nicely decorated with art on the walls and there are many places to sit. I will definitely be going back :)
This coffee shop did not make me feel claustrophobic in any way. Probably the finest cup of coffee Ive ever had in my life. It comes highly recommended!
Really cool seasonal drinks. Friendly staff, cool space.
Awesome place. We got a few bags of whole bean coffee, a free drink and some tasty tart cherry kombucha. Their customer service is great!!
Great coffee, staff is always very friendly and helpful. Asset to the Loyola neighborhood.
Good coffee. Good service. Friendly atmosphere.
So glad they reopened. Lovely people, great products including some gluten free and vegan, pleasant and ample seating, cool art on the walls.
Great coffee, pastries (even gluten-free!), and service
Stop and say Hi to Jeff hes waiting see all his old friends, and new friends alike support his amazing coffee and great location, Ive going there since the day they opened. Great coffee great neighborhood foundation keep it running.
Drinks are always good. They have the staples and more creative ones for something different.
Always delicious coffee and lots of seating inside to work and study or grab a pick me up with friends. The staff are all super nice as well.
Excellent coffee, perfect for casual hangout. The majority of the staff is friendly.
Latte was one the best lattes I ever tried.
Friendly staff. Cozy environment for studying and relaxing.
Delicious coffee and always a place to sit :)
Great neighborhood coffee house!
Id heard glowing recommendations for this place so it was one of the first must-visits in my new neighborhood. I went for an iced latte and was pleasantly surprised how much flavor of the coffee came through (so many times I get slightly coffee-flavored milk when getting iced).Service was very good at a reasonable speed. Ill definitely be back.
This place serves the best coffee at a very affordable price. The food is always amazing as well as the desserts. Its very comfortable and the people working here are nice. Great tasting coffee, nice ambiance, and reasonably priced menu. Definitely one of the best coffee shops in the area. I hope to be back here soon!
Open for business finally. With a new tasty menu for the edgewater neighborhood.
Excellent pastries. Good coffee
Fabulous coffee. The best in Chicago.
You guys need to place a sign that says Stay behind red line while ordering. Its confusing, and the baristas are super passive aggressive about it. Everytime Ive visited, someone makes that mistake. Maybe put a physical barrier? Its annoying and makes me not want to come back.Other than that, their espresso is pretty good.
Excellent service, Jamie is fantastic!
Extremely friendly staff, cute place. A good chai latte. Everyone was masked so I felt very comfortable!
Stopped here on the way home from visiting a friend and had probably the 2 friendliest gentlemen in Chicago start my morning. The food was delicious, my Chai tea was made to perfection and the breeze that made the cutest heart in the form of my tea! Metropolis really started my morning off on the right foot and cant wait to go back!
Good coffee and nice vibe.
A great small coffee shop with excellent coffee. I wish they were open a little bit later, but other than that, they are perfect!
The Kyoto style cold brew is the best I’ve found. Rich without burnt or astringent flavors. Perfect!
Absolutely dynamite pour over. A Costa Rican that doesnt look like it isnt on their website, but was full of flavor, slightly berry like tones. Just fantastic, and the bright acidity doesnt take over as it cools. As far as the cafe goes, awesome as well, though true to other reviews very crowded. Parking isnt easy, but that would be true for anywhere in that part of town. Really nice staff that seems very passionate about what they do, and an inviting relaxed decor. This was the third of three place I got coffee at in one day, and while you would think by that point Id be all coffeed out it was certainly the best I had that day, and some of the better coffee Ive ever had.
Rude incompetent staff... over charged me and when I asked about it (not even asking for my money back) she got defensive and yelled at me lol.... Anastasia or Amanda I think her name was.... then she said that she was trying to save me money but clearly did not know how to do simple math. the manager with the really short hair fixed it for me... the issue is if they are over charging people constantly or doing this to elderly or people that may not notice they are making a killing.
My favorite coffee roaster in the city. Ordering ground beans from their site has been super easy, but I stopped by for my first visit since covid started. Their setup is intuitive, felt safe, and it was quick to get in & out.
Great americano!
Love this coffee!!! Love the food
Great coffee! Practicing proper safety measures.
They have the standard types of coffee and tea. It tastes really good. A bit on the pricey side for some things but thats expected
This is my go-to coffee place! The atmosphere is really cozy and fun, the workers are kind and helpful. The coffee is strong (I love their london fog), and their pastry is WONDERFUL! Its typically pretty crowded, so finding a seat can be difficult, especially on the weekends and during finals.
The staff was friendly and pleasant. Very cute cafe, will definitely visit again.
Great place! Well suited for Pick Up. Friendly staff.
While the coffee is very good, employees are irrationally overreacting about coronavirus. Almost to the point where I don’t think it’s worth going there to have a cup of joe. I don’t know where their getting their guidelines from, but it’s surely not something rational. Pseudo- science will kill local businesses.
I love their spice island blend, best tasting coffee!
The iced mocha is by far my favorite. The chocolate in it is wonderfully rich. Right now, the spaces is set up to enforce safety precautions during COVID-19, which I really appreciate.Id like to see more variety in their seasonal offerings. For example, the only pumpkin drink they offered in October was a cafe au lait. Not knowing the backend of their operation, I just asked if there was a possibility to get the flavor or cream added to a cold brew. Spoiler: the barista said no.In spite of my criticism, if you like zucchini bread, their bundt is AMAZING.
Coffee is so good. Also, does a great job of managing covid.
Chicago has a lot of excellent roasters. Metropolis is amongst the best. Also they carry V60 filters 👍
Nice little coffee shop decorated with local art. Cool vibe. Great joe!
Great coffee roaster
Great drinks, but uncomfortably quiet. Went here to catch up with some friends and we left because we felt we were being disruptive. Great, probably, if you want to study. The place is always packed with folks doing the cyber cafe thing, and is very nicely populated with plants.
Love That Coffee & Tea....the BEST
I go here every day, on my way to work. In spite of how busy they always seem to be, it is consistently very clean, and the staff remain calm, cheerful, and fun. The coffee is also excellent. Their seasonal creations are always worth the splurge.
I went for an iced latte and was pleasantly surprised how much flavor of the coffee came through (so many times I get slightly coffee-flavored milk when getting iced).Nice employees good coffee. I got their cold brew. There was definitely some thought that went into the blend. A little cramped in the inside but its the city so thats understandable.
Good coffees
Great place to grab a cup off coffee and read a book. Best time to come in is moring afternoon kinda gets bit busy with students and not enough table to come by. Overall, I enjoy this cafe shop.
Delicious and interestingVery cool place. Get a booth by a window for a great view and people watching.
Nice little gem in the n.hood!! I have been going here for years now once or twice a week sometimes. The staff is very friendly and i am just used to them by now. Cheers to many more to come.
Fantastic coffee from a great local roaster. A lot of chain coffee shops use dark roast coffee thats very strong and tastes over-extracted. The coffee here is well-balanced and tasty. They do a very interesting style of cold brew coffee that is incredibly strong and has nice bourbon flavors. Better than many options in the city.
Long time business. You can have a simple cup of drip coffee to Exotic coffee you can have a simple scone or until its just breakfast. This Spy Master gives it 5 out of 5 every time I go. As a long time tradition they give you a vinyl sticker different every time.
Nice employees good coffee. I got their cold brew. There was definitely some thought that went into the blend. A little cramped in the inside but its the city so thats understandable.
Place is really busy most of the week. Good luck finding a place to sit. The staff here is pretty friendly, for when you walk in they greet you with a smile and they are willing to answer any questions you might have. This happened to me because it was my first time there. I had a lamb pie and a mocha for here. The drink wasnt overpowered by the chocolate. It had a pretty good balance and I could taste the coffee. The pie was nice and warm though the use of a microwave kinda put me off.
Love coming here. Ive been coming here for almost 2 years and honestly I feel like it gets better with every visit.I knocked a star off BC I did I find something in my lemonade but it happens. The gentleman was sweet and replaced it. If possible I would just knock half a star.Definitely will recommend 4/5.
Ive been coming here for the past 6 years and I totally love their coffee and plus the employees are very nice and friendly and I definitely recommend that you go to this place in Edgewater. Keep up the good work.
Had an amazing cold brew here! It had so much depth. The space itself is a little sparse but still nice for studying, and the wifi is solid.
A wonderful space to meet friends or work alone close to the Red Line Granville stop. Fab coffee. Open until 7! I love that they get food from some of Chicagos best: pies from Hoosier Mama pie, bagels from New York Bagels & Bialy, Do-Rite Donuts, and delicious hand pies from a bakery (I had spinach and feta, very yummy). And reasonably priced! Roomy, interesting decor. Nice staff.
Ordered La Cordillera Blend, beautiful flavors, thank you Shana Conner without you I would never have known about Metropolis. RF Johnson
Super cute in here! Nice vibe, kind staff! Their coffee could put hair on my chest though haha! Strong for me!
Coffee was extremely bitter. Tasted like machine had not been cleaned in some time.
I love this place and the staff has always so warm and welcoming! They always make time to be nice and conversational and not rush you through the line, even though it can get busy. Coffee is one of my favorites and my mom tried the quiche and thought it was great. Great customer service, keep up the good work.
Metropolis is likely the best coffee roasters in Chicago. World-class coffee at an honest price. Coffee much better than Intelligencia and at half the price. Their cafe is a neat space. The staff is awesome and will help you find the drink you like. Seating is usually hard to find because of its popularity with Loyola students.
