I’m a pastry chef and this is my favorite chocolate shop in the entire city! Very high quality truffles, drinking chocolate and pastries. The shop itself is beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Their hand sculpted truffles of various animals like mice, elephants, penguins, bats and ghosts, witches, snowmen are so adorable. It’s located right between a tea shop and French knickknack shop too.
What a beautiful and delightful place! The drinking chocolate at the bar is fresh and delicious but it is really their cookies that I have to speak to. They are layered with semi sweet chocolate and honestly the best chocolate “chip” cookies that I’ve ever had - I would know. I’ve been eating tons of them all my life! Staff is helpful and pleasant. Highly recommended!
Beautiful, presentation, flavor, design—-Step inside and be transported. I felt as if the store is insulated from everything going on, on State Street. I went in on a day, a really long stressful day. It was quiet and beautiful with the most beautiful treats. It was magical, a beautiful scent of lovely chocolate wafting in the air. Mice and ghosts formed from chocolate where in display, bringing a smile to my face. The manager and staff were positive, talkative, enjoyable. The place was wonderfully spotless clean!!!The flavors were fantastic. Chocolate mousse cake melted in my mouth. Along with a Carmel latte, with homemade Carmel. Did not disappoint! The view of the ivy covered courtyard makes you fell like you are in Paris.Thank you for wrapping a small box as if I bought the biggest. The presentation was top notch.Thank you for helping me “get away” even if for an hour.
Frozen hot chocolate is perfect for a hot day. With the weather turning colder now, the regular hot chocolate will be lit!
This was such a lovely mini date spot. The cakes and chocolates were decadent and the staff was friendly and proactive. The dark hot chocolate was sooo riich!! After all the desserts we couldnt finish our hot chocolate but it made an exceptional addition to our morning coffeethe cakes were worth every penny and the atmosphere was cozy and chic.ill be back and id recommend it to a perfect end of a busy Sunday activities day to take a moment to sit and indulge with someone you love ❤️🔥
I ordered the Halloween crate for Halloween obviously for $75 to share with my 3 men in my life. Just be warned its about the smallest crate of candy you will every see and the Chocolate was just ok. These little miniature pieces of candy are probably best for mini princess not adult sized people. I really had high and big expectations thinking this was going to be a fun filled crate with man size candy. Boy was I wrong. Pictures appear much smaller in person than advertised. I think I will stick with Hersheys from now on. Life and learn. If money is no issue than order away. I just spent my weeks paycheck on a crate of mini mice and ghosts.
The staff are super friendly here and they seem to work well together. The shop is really cute and the decorations are very similar in other stores too. The chocolate chip cookies here are amazing! Theyre filled with chocolate and there arent that many nuts. Its my perfect ratio, but if youre not that into chocolate, maybe its not for you. They heat it up and its practically oozing with chocolate. It gets a little oily but thats the price you pay for chocolatey goodness. The hot chocolate is always great here and the chocolate croissants are to die for. They are so flakey and they warm it for you too! The ham and cheese croissant was okay but you only get a taste of the ham once you get near the center. Id say the hot chocolate here is better than Mindys because Mindys is too sweet and offers less choices for a higher price.
Very smooth chocolates! High quality gifts!!
We got a harvard square, a bit of mocha cake, and a couple chocolates I couldnt pronounce. They were all delicious and smooth. Well be back.
Feel like Ive stumbled into a magical old-world restaurant in the old continent. Immediately when you step foot past the front entrance youre greeted with beautiful warm lighting and decor, understated enchanting french music and a wonderful array of chocolates in various packaging. We came for breakfast and was not disappointed with the selection of pastries including the old viennoiserie standbys of croissants and pain-au-chocolat but also specialty mini chocolate gateaux of all kinds. The prices are surprisingly very affordable for this elegant establishment in the heart of River North. So glad we found this gem hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Mag Mile which for a short while transports us back to our past vacations to French-speaking Europe.
Americana was perfect. Tea cakes were excellent. Great stop for an afternoon coffee and treat.
Great place! Unbelievably good pastries and chocolates if you prefer less sweet European style pastries
The guy has terrible attitude, he made me and my friends feel uncomfortable.
Coconut cake I purchased today was stale.
Adorable shop, amazing desserts and espresso drinks. Service was great. Would go back again.
Very high price. Almost $6 per cookie. We spent $50 on 5 desserts. Pretty packaging but taste was a tiny bit above average. They use Dark chocolate for those who like.
Delightful, melt in your mouth cookies. Staff was extremely friendly.
The iced chocolate was awesome and the staff were very friendly.
Amazing chocolate and pastry treats. White chocolate raspberry cookies to die for. Highly recommend.
Truly fine chocolates and pastries. Clearly marked for preferences/restrictions such as nuts, dairy, alcohol, etc. Wonderfully helpful and pleasant staff.
Had the signature chocolate chip walnut cookie. It deserves its reputation.
WHOAH - try the cookies - DELISHI-OSO!!
Beautiful place w lovely chocolates, desserts, bars and drinking chocolate. Full of seasonal items and a coffee bar. Wonderful customer service.
Manager was nice. Cashier wasnt nice. I called the establishment to state my experience. Nice goes a long way, especially on Valentines Day.
Omg it’s waaaaaaaay perfect and beautiful and tasty and everything.
A little overpriced but high quality chocolate
Amazing hot chocolate. I also bought one of their chocolate bars and it was top notch. Staff is always friendly.
Still superb even during COVID19 restrictions. Food is delicious, staff is friendly. There is currently limited in door seating and all food items are served as to go. If you care about quality, this is some of the best in town. Pastries are great including their specialty Chocolate Chip Cookies that are made and baked on site. Theyre very indulgent and rich, definitely for pure who truly enjoy chocolate. I added a picture of the Engadiner Nusstorte. It has a thick and hard shortbread crust around a very rich dark caramel lavendar mixture with nuts and cherries (or some other kind of berry fruit, not sure). Come here for a small snack, a treat for yourself (like a drinking chocolate), an espresso beverage (such an americano or cappucino) or a big gift like one their specialty boxes of chocolates. Things a little bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for.
Walked by this place today and saw their chocolate chunk cookies in the window. Couldnt stop thinking about that cookie. Went back for a cookie and bought two bars of chocolate, a passion fruit mousse chocolate thing, and some delicious drinking chocolate. Will definitely be back for more of the same.
Their desserts are amazing and the service was great!
Great food and atmosphere. Its a little pricey but its a cute little place and its worth it. Flaky croissants, pastries that will fill you up and great drink selections. Staff is very friendly and remembered all of the regulars who popped in + their orders. Good choice for a quiet breakfast with a book.
Manager was nice!!Cashier wasnt nice!
This place is extremely expensive. We spent $50 for 5 pieces of very small desserts.
The smell of fresh baked cookies outside drew me in and Im glad I did.L.A. Burdick is a little chocolate shop and cafe located in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. Its very easy to miss this place if you arent paying attention. When I came here I got a chocolate chip & walnut cookie with a hot drinking chocolate. Neither compromised in taste and both were among some of the best chocolate Ive ever tried. And Ive eaten a lot of chocolate in my life. LA Burdick spares no expense in quality. Everything from store looks to ingredients is well thought out.Gluten free options are available.5/5. Definitely a place to come back to again and again. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to one of their hot chocolates as it gets colder this winter.
Fabulous items for those that have more than one sweet tooth like myself. Really cute halloween options as well
Awesome delicious chocolates!
Great chocolate cafe on State street. Little chocolate animals that are all handmade. Seasonal. Winter: mice and penguins. Spring: bees. Fall: pumpkins. Offer coffee dribks, specialty hot chocolate along gorgeous desserts. Cookies, cakes, and chocolates. Many items are ready gift wrapped. Beautiful cafe. Easy to find. Friendly staff.
Best hot chocolate and baked goods in River North. Hands down.
Best tasting drinking 🍫 chocolate in Chicago and the staff here is completely brand new and definitely excited about serving everyone.I recently altered my previous review because everyone here now is very friendly and during this pandemic spotless.I do miss the croissants but they still have a wonderful variety of cakes, chocolate chip cookies and individual chocolates for purchase. The chocolate mice are especially adorable and they also have cute chocolate 🐧 penguins if youre looking for a unique gift.Love the zen vibes here now!
SO cute and cozy inside. The best hot chocolate in the city. Every morning, I walk by their window and drool over their chocolate chip cookies. Finally went in and ate one today, and it was great!
Delicious drinking chocolate and coffee! Will come back often.
Nice place to relax on a dark winter night. The hot chocolate was pretty good. I would recommend the milk chocolate. Staff are nice and the place looks a little fancy.
I dont say this lightly that this is the best chocolate chip cookie I have ever eaten. I feel like I need to eat it in a dark room and savor every bite. I kinda want to remove a star because this place is going to ruin ever future chocolate chip cookie for me for the rest of my life. Please open a store in Houston!!
Excellent experience! Very nice and peaceful on Saturday afternoon. Chocolate croissant was delicious and so was white hot chocolate. Will be back for more!
This is such a cute little shop, and the chocolates are fantastic! A bit on the pricey end, but the chocolate is so rich and complex that its worth it! Also a great place to get gifts of chocolates and cocoa powder.
Got the coffee, it was good.
Good Drinks, and good cookies, but beware of the manager as he has a very bad attitude, the server was very nice.I ordered a drink, ( the dark hot chocolate ) and for some reason I did not like it and asked to exchange it for the Milk chocolate instead, so he exchanged it but was very rude about it. I would rather he charged me for the exchange rather than be rude.
There are definitely quality differences depends on the day. Normally the croissants are beautiful and delicious, especially during winter fall or spring. Unfortunately there were very very bad ones during the summer, when it was over 90 degrees. They shouldnt be selling those at $4 each when they are over proofed.Metered or free street parking, credit accepted, limited indoor and outdoor seating, pleasant quick service.
Amazing place serving the best hot chocolate in Chicago!
Delicious chocolates, cakes and other desserts. Along with coffees, hot chocolate, and teas. Caramel latte is amazing, its made with a homemade caramel sauce.
Delicious spicy chocolate. Not too sweet, not too heavy, not to spicy. Amazingly tasty. And hazelnut orange cake was gooood!
I would go as far as saying the best chocolatier in the world. Maybe I am partial because I have fond childhood memories of visiting the Walpole location, but I have never tasted better chocolate anywhere. Their preservation efforts with wildlife are exemplary and their packaging makes you feel like pure gold is being unwrapped; the golden ticket of chocolate to say the least.
Such a great atmosphere inside. Especially in winter you can have a great time with a delicious hot chocolate and an amazing backyard view. It’s a bit expensive tho. Big size hot chocolate is $6.50
I can confirm that they have the best chocolate chip cookies in the city.
Decent desserts and coffee, but their almond croissants are dry & over-baked. The worst part, no WiFi. Plenty of seating in a nice area but now I get why it’s empty. Maybe they don’t want you hanging out and checking your email?
Im so happy that L.A. Burdick has opened in Chicago! Everything is delicious and such high quality. Plus, they dont use any food coloring or flavoring or preservatives. My favorites are the chocolate mice, the hazelnut orange cake, and the milk hot chocolate.
Love coming here every time I’m in Chicago. Probably one of the best hot chocolates that I’ve ever had.
Excellent espresso, delicious pastries. All super expensive of course, but you get what you pay for!And a quaint little patio in the back that I cant wait to check out come summertime.
This was a truly awe-inspiring experience. Single origin, specialty hot chocolate that is so tasty and rich, yet not overwhelming, truly sublime. The owner was the most incredible man who was a true connoisseur of chocolate, a chocolatier, and at the epitome of the trade. This is the stuff of a chocolatiers dream, in reality it is a land flowing of milk and chocolate. Wholeheartedly, the single piece chocolates were supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. To top it off our mocha cake had the quintessential solidity-to-oozy ratio, the ones that make mouthwatering dreams become a reality in the most veracious state.
The Burdick cookie is one of the best cookies I’ve ever had. And I am a cookie guy, so this is not my first rodeo.
The hot chocolate was my favorite but its also a good spot to buy presents for loved ones. Also their baked goods were awesome as well.. Make sure to grab the canneles (they only get 4 each day!).
I go to specialty chocolate shops in every city. That being said I wasnt very impressed with this one. The chocolate was good but it was $20 for 4 pieces, a cookie and an americano....I have had much better dessert elsewhere. Try Vanille. At least you feel like you got your moneys worth there!
Love the hot chocolate
Delicious chocolate..amazing drinks....and the staff are so kind and helpful!! One of my favorite places to go when I am in that area of town!!
Stopped here on a windy day for some hot chocolate. Got the spicy hot chocolate. It was good, but very thick and very rich. Be ready for some intense hot cocoa if you go here.
Almost missed this gem when I was strolling past! Cozy, european ambiance with high quality sweets & drinks. Extra points for their contributions to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and the adorable chocolate elephants as a sponsorship mechanism.
Everyone who works here is super nice. The drinking chocolate is outstanding. An example of something pricy for a reason. It’s good
Excellent choice of snacking and baking chocolates. Quality materials with prices to match.
The chocolate chip cookies are not to be missed! Not so much chips or chunks but swirls of delicious chocolate. On the pricey side for an individual cookie but worth it!
The most incredible chocolate chip cookie youve ever had!
Romantic Dating Venue for all-ages! Open late. Everything is great here - desserts and drinks are made well.Impress that they have 3 choices for Gluten-Free desserts. HAZELNUT ORANGE CAKE was highly recommended that did NOT disappoint. Soft crumbly cake was encased in a hard chocolate shell. Heavy and Soft.MAISON PARISIENNE provides some of the desserts.Original Gifting Idea -- spicy hot chocolate at home! You dont need to go to Xoco anymore. Use whole milk and/or cream for a thick hot chocolate.
Weve purchased boxes of chocolates as gifts and they are a hit. Delicious selections.
Macaron is smaller than laduree but the closest thing to it taste wise. Coffee is also good.
Excellent hot chocolates. Certainly the best in Chicago. They may seem pricey but theyre very reasonable for the quality and the amount of chocolate in them. Its impossible to go back to any other after having a cup of Burdicks hot chocolate.
Truly the best hot chocolate Ive ever had. Also, their chocolate assortments in wood boxes make great gifts. Ive received dozens of enthusiastic thank-yous and wows from family, friends, and colleagues.
Always number 1 😍
My girlfriend and I visited this establishment on March 9 the chocolate lemon cake, hot chocolate, ginger tea and chocolates were delicious, the service from the employees was friendly and they were very helpful, we will return!
Stopped in after being drawn in by the cookies in the window. Had a small hazelnut and orange cake slice and a latte. 10/10 will come again.
