Love that this local favorite has moved to Parkade Plaza. Easier parking and access for those not going downtown. Recently I had the Vegetarian Plate and it was awesome! There are always left overs and the naan is baked to perfection. The meal for two I had three weeks earlier was also a great meal that I was still eating four days later and it the spices got even better! I ate inside, but saw many people doing pick up for meals and catering!
Food has always been good - Curries was a bit better and its every bit as good as India house - My disappointment is that there is no lunch buffet. You can eat in but no buffet. There are other buffets in town - at Taj Mahal none of the employees wear masks - For a regular sized lunch portion I paid $3.00 more than the what the Buffet costs. India house is only doing takeout at this point. I am hoping that the lunch Buffets returns soon.
We move from Florida 4 month ago and we always like Indian food, today we found a very nice and great place, food as original as can be and the attention was awesome, we had the great service from Payal, as a very sensitive lady, her service was the most personal and kind, I recommend this place to all whom like India food and for those that are looking for a different.
We ate here about 6 weeks ago, and it was wonderful. Large portions, very tasty, and good service. We ate here yesterday, April 23rd, and it was the exact opposite of those three things.Service was slow, the portions were small, and not very tasty. I ordered the mixed grill, and it took a very long time to get my food. In fact, the other 2 in my party were nearly done with their meals by the time I got mine. In addition, it was overcooked and dry.I am very disappointed, as I like Indian food. We will not return.
I ordered thru UberEats this evening. I ordered 1 Chicken marsala medium extra sauce and another one normal but medium heat. The rice came in a large container instead of two separate containers as should have. The creambase is normally thick and this on the liquid side . But his should have been the same experience that I have extras before.
I went there the other day and it was such a great experience! The waiter, Nelson, was very helpful and took time to help explain the dishes and spice level! I HIGHLY recommend this place and definitely would go again!
We had the feast for two and every single item was filled with explosions of flavor! Soooo good! The naan and vegetable curry were my favorite. My husband loved the tandoori beef and chicken curry. Everything was perfect, will definitely be coming back!
I love this place, best Indian restaurant in town. The naan with nuts and cherries is amazing and goes very well with the korma.
Love this place food is so good! They now serve on all disposable plates, cups, etc for dine in. Covid obviously hit them hard so pay them a visit or by the looks of it they wont be around long.
Food was very good. They were really busy so service was slow. It seemed to be a staffing issue. If they correct that, this could be a five star experience.
This place was wonderful! The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was incredibly friendly!
I worked for several years with a team of Indian engineers, and during that time learned what good Indian food tastes like. You have nothing to fear, these guys know what theyre doing. Some of my favorites from their menu:- Tandoori chicken- Kashmiri naanSpecial shout-out to Nelson!
Pretty tastey and goodish quality from what i could tell. :) fair price, buffet is also great. Specially if skipped breakfast and have a lunch break
Food was delicious. Ordered online and was given an expected time food would be ready. Put off another task to make the time and still 5 minutes past it. On arrival waited several minutes before anyone was available and then was told ten more minutes. Waited more than that, meanwhile someone else comes in and gets food immediately. But the food was good. If you have plenty of time.
The were very friendly and helped us order. The food was all delicious. We enjoyed our evening out.
Not recommend. Waiting time is more then an hour and not good place to go. Food is not good either after all that.
I paid $15 for a lamb beryani to go and I got a mushy rice with horrible food coloring really spicy (I had picked 3 for spice level) with a slimy sort of yogurt sauce on the side. The lamb was good but there was hardly any lamb. Rice looked really disgusting with red food coloring and all mushy. Oh and on top of all of that the handle of the plastic bag was oily with yellowish color showing the person that bagged my food had yellow oily hands🤢
I would leave 0 stars but thats not an option.. almost an hour wait for one item. You need to pick up the pace. People and their food hot and ready in less than 15 mins. Im just saying... try harder.
We got take out from here for the first time. We ordered kind of late so they were out of one of the dishes, but they called and recommended a replacement that was great. All the food was delicious and they were friendly. The portion sizes were generous. Would definitely recommend.
Food is good. Costumer service could be better. I called, to see if they’re doing dining. Girl asked if I could hold? I said, yes. She put me on hold for over 5 minutes while she carried on a conversation with her coworker. I hung up.
Food was very good!! Awesome flavors of spices.
The lamb kabab was not freshly made but only microwaved. Dal makhni was fine.
The floor was very dirty. The nan was tough and chewy. The vindaloo was hot enough, but didnt have a very deep spice pallette. The panner saag was likewise kinda bland, and the spinach tasted funky. On the plus side, the rice was very good, and my carry out order was correct.Probably still gotta drive to STL when I need Indian food though.
I was already seated, looking at the menu (online), when I decided to read the reviews. I was tempted to go to a different place but I figured it wont hurt me to try. after all, its only once in a blue moon I go to Columbia.its a Monday and the door says open at 11:00 am. it was 11:02 on my phone, resto still closed. I saw a lady prepping the buffet so I figured Im too early.my husband and I waited awhile for the buffet to get set up. not much of a selection, that is if you are going to compare it to a Chinese buffet. 2-3 types of veggies, 2 different types of rice, 3 different types of meat (tandori, korma and meatballs with sauce). oh yes, in the middle of my first plate, they served the flat bread. I didnt bother with the sweets. they didnt have gulab jamun.for the price I paid for two $25.58 including drinks, its a 5 star.for service, its a 4 star.for taste of food, not bad, I will give it a 4 star.ambiance, I give it a 5 star.
Better than I even expected! So many options.
Yummy food! We had a double charge mishap (not anyones fault) and the manager worked hard to correct the problem. Good folks, good food ^.^
Bad food ever i ate in the US from this restaurant I want to recommend don’t ever go over there to everyone because I order food from there and they give me very much oily food which I did not eat and I just throw it
Placed an order online says that they open at 11am order was to be ready at 11:15- through 11:20 I pulled up at 11:19 and they were just getting to the building
Food is very tasty
Food was good but the service was a little slow.
Bad customer service. Its Thursday 8/15/2019, we Got here at 8:55 and its closed while the online and store closing hours shows 9:30. I even called them at 8:20 and confirm that we are coming before 9, but it was very disappointing !Seems like they dont value their customers regardless what they advertise or say on the phone.
Authentic, authentic, and authentic! Very real Indian food. Their Indian beers are worth to try.
Excellent food and good service! Will be coming back 👍👍👍
The chicken was amazing, very flavorful, and rice perfect. Would definitely recommend!
The food was amazing and Nelson was awesome!
Doesnt taste like a indian food
Wouldnt go there again, stale, bland food.
Do yourself a favor. Eat here. Feel free to choose a menu item at random because EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS. These are good people who care about the quality of their product. There is a mature gentleman who cooks here. He is the King of Samosas. I have eaten here many times over the years and they are consistently excellent.
Worst food ever !!!Pakoda were half cooked and it was sticky from inside. They had made some curry which they were not aware of.ChickenCurry had whole Onion and tomatoe.Never try anything here
Delicious food.
Been here twice for a pick order for my family after being told give them 25mins to only get there to be told another 10+ mins
Ordered several appetizers and the lamb korma at a level 7 heat. Order was ready promptly when I scheduled. The heat on the lamb had sweat on my brow, a tear trickling down my cheek, and my nose running. It was awesome!!
Good choices for Indian meals.
Very average small-town Indian hotel. They had a good service though. But I would not suggest who really want to try an authentic Indian taste. Stopped by for a quick pick up and the food had good quality but not much tasty.
I ordered take out for my dad and I for lunch. The chicken tikka masala was fantastic! We got the spiciest level (10) and it was definitely spicy!! We got lots of rice and naan too which was also good. Definitely going to order from here again!
Food was soo testing. Only we ordered garlic naan and tandoori roti was vary hard to eat.
They have excellent service and always have great food.
Kind, friendly staff, all food too spicy! Except chicken. Neither my mom, my daughter, not myself hardly could eat anything. 😭 We left hungry. I ate rice and naan. We took my daughter to McDonalds afterwards. I have had good Indian food from other places that has lots of flavor without overpowering heat.
The lunch buffet is amazing. In the family who owns this restaurant is super nice. I’ve never had naan that tasted so good. Have them make it with garlic. Sometimes I will just stop in to getting naan and then drive home snacking on it.
My father owns this restaurant, and though its a family restaurant, Im very critical. I love our food and I love the people that work there. Many people complain about the service and how long it takes to get their food when theres hardly anyone in the restaurant, but the cook operates on a first come-first serve basis. With only 4 burners and one cook, not to mention To-go orders account for half of the income, its hard to get the food out as fast as theyd prefer. Good news is that my Dad is expanding! Hell be moving into the space across the street complete with a dance floor, open bar, music and entertainment, and hopefully a better atmosphere than we have right now. Not only will the experience be much better, he will also have twice the staff and twice the kitchen space as he does now, meaning FASTER SERVICE. For those of you who had a bad experience, I encourage you to come to opening night. Hopefully, we can change your mind! Thank you for the loyal customers and those that support our business.
They took twice as long to prepare the food the first time. So I thought I’d try again and the 2nd time I called my order in no one was in the store for about 20 minutes. There’s got to be better places to eat than this
Excellent lunch buffet with fantastic food. I walked out stuffed to the brim from this establishment having sampled everything they had to offer, and there wasnt a thing that wasnt above average. Loved it. Service was really lacking and slow, and they were slow to replenish some things, but otherwise good food.
The food is delicious and authentic. My nephew whose mother is an immigrant from India says it is very good and some of the best in the country. The service is very good. The atmosphere is informal. They could possibly improve on this.
If you are looking for the best Indian food in town, then look no further than Taj Mahal. Authentic food. Family owned restaurant that makes you feel like home. I have been a regular costumer for the past 3 years and I can say that people who work there have always been nice to me :)
I wish I could have given this a minus rating!Worst service I have ever seen in a restaurant! The server took our order without writing it down and forget to bring the ‘Samosa’ we ordered. When asked about it, she claimed we never ordered it. She also brought a chicken dish instead of the ‘Karai Paneer’ we ordered. The taste of the food was horrible and the ambience was not inviting at all.
Took 30 minutes for our food to come. Food did not taste fresh. Staff was rude. What else you need from a dinner to write a review like this. My 10 year old daughter was wondering why they open their store!?
The food is amazing!! I havent had Indian food like this since last time I visited Devon St in Chicago. Magnificent. Also of note, the freshly squeezed mango juice is a must try.
Great food and awesome service 😊👍
The food here is amazing. Which is fortunate as the service is a bit off. The staff can be a bit surly and after ordering online I had to stand around for a half hour until they got me my food.Fortunately, it was worth it. It tastes great, the portions are—to say the least—robust and its reasonably priced. I would recommend you go there if you have a minute.
I had their lunch buffet today, and really enjoyed it. The food was very flavorful and delicious. I also had a wonderful server who was very pleasant and attentive. I love their new location at the corner of 5th & Walnut as well. I will definitely be going back, and will also try them for dinner.
Dont how people like the buffet here. Service is better than the other one in town. But food is not great. Sub standard. Limited vegetarian options.Grocery store upstairs is a good addition, helps with Indian groceries. They also do party catering, ordered Lime rice and Vegetable Pulao, both very in good quantity and decent taste.
I have always been here for lunch. The buffet is well stocked and has a great selection of items. The food seems fresh and not left out for hours. The newer location is really nice.
Delicious food. Staff is friendly but service can be on the slower side as many items are cooked to order and can take time, especially when busy. Food is usually worth the wait though!
Waited over an hour for food, restaurant basically empty. Food wasn’t good enough to put up with that again. Don’t see us going back.
Really good Indian food. Reasonably priced. Seasoning to your taste from mild to spicy. Casual restaurant and a Indian market upstairs. Would recommend.
Food was ok. Cant really call the service bad as there was none. We were frequently alone in the restaurant. Finally had to fill my own drinks. Seems like this would be a problem but there wasnt a single employee to witness it. Very strange experience.
Rice was burnt. Table was greasy. We were the only customers. Service was poor. Waitress acted put out when I asked for spoons to serve the food. Chai was bitter. Overall food was delicious.
Service is always sooooooo slow. But, I do like a few of their menu options. If youre not in a hurry (meaning you have a few hours to kill), this is a decent place for Indian cuisine.
Second only to Curries in terms of food, Taj Mahal is the best sit-down Indian restaurant in Columbia (eat your heart out Indias House). Their buffet is moderately priced, variable, and delicious. Plus the Indian grocery store on the second floor is an adventure in and of itself.
Honestly, I dont know whats up with the attitude of the people working here! They cant even smile and behave as if we have ruined their day. They kept forgetting small things like water refills/drinks... Had to wait for an hour or more to get our food when there were less then 5 customers only in the whole restaurant.. So basically horrible service...But on the other hand we liked the food quality and preparation!
My boyfriend and I love going here for the Lunch Buffet and even sometimes dinner. The food has always been very delicious, and authentic. Although the service is sometimes a little slow its not something that had ruined our experience or stop us from going there. There new location is very well decorated and has a good atmosphere and I think they are still trying to figure everything out. All in all it is a great place and I recommend it to anyone looking for something different. After our trip there today we have been 3 days in a row! HaHa!
Nice people but the food is not great, except for the lemon rice. That is excellent. Only one start due to the buffet being very limited in choices and the tandoori chicken that is included is always empty or just an old piece sitting in there. One time it wasnt even busy and I had to wait 45 minutes to get my food. They just left us waiting, starving.
Grrat curry and quiet place. love it. Since its not weekend missed to taste goat meat .
Suppose to be best in town, I wasnt impressed, but Im comparing to larger better buffets in STL.
Claims to be open 11am - 9:30pm, but it is in fact closed from 2:30pm to 5pm. This is false representation and advertising. My wife was so looking forward to a meal but was misled. So my wife went through the grocery store, and they said they were closed but agreed to serve us. That lifted the rating but I still think they should ensure their hours of service are accurately represented on commonly used internet sources.
Food is ok but not as good as the other downtown Indian restaurant. The lunch buffet was almost empty at 12:15 when we got there and they didnt refill it. Not much to choose from and not worth the price.
I really wanted to like this place, and the food was tasty... but they served us an obviously reused dish of sauces with our appetizer.. thats just gross..
The curries were very nice, the naan bread fresh and delicious, but the rice was old, had to be from the night before or older, the rice in the biryani was the same old rice too 😒 other than that, which unfortunately with Indian food is very important it was good, we spent $100 the server was very nice man, but we probably won’t be back for a while. I hope everything hey correct this problem.
I know that there are a lot of people who say the service is terrible. Ill admit that it has not always been perfect, but the food is. If you want to go somewhere where ANYTHING on the menu will taste like wow, this is the place. I regularly go here and have never been disappointed. The Saag is so good!
This is worst experience ever they dont know how to cook and everything is messed up.REAL Indian food is 100 times better whatever they serve here and they dont know what is customer service nobody has a smile on their face. I will never recommend anyone. You can cook much better Indian food at home. If you want to throw you money in garbage go and try their food.
Great food at reasonable prices. The groupon is a nifty way to save some money and get a nice deal. Another of the few restaurants I frequent.
The lunch buffet is some of the best food. And if you go on the weekends, theres goat curry which is some of the best stuff Ive ever tasted.
Terrible terrible service! Food used to be so good that it sorta made up for being mostly ignored as long as you knew ahead of time that is would take 2 hours for dinner. However, lately the meat in the dishes has been really grisly. Gross! We refuse to go back there anymore! Now we go to Indias House instead for our Indian food cravings!
Great food. I think its the best Indian food in town! Great location and now a grocery store too! Love it.
The food is excellent, but they are slow service wise. Go if you dont have anything planned afterwards. Or you can order it to go, but that is what slows them down.
The food is good but the service is absolutely horrible. The food took well over an hour and there were only a couple of other people in the restaurant. No one would refill my drink even though I asked several times for more water. I had to go up to the bar and fill up my glass myself. By the time our food finally came out it was cold.
Delicious food! Love coming here when I am in Columbia!
We go here at least monthly, the owners and staff are always very friendly and the service is fast, the food is to die for, absolutely delicious and fresh everytime.BEST vegetarian selection around
This buffet consisted of a very low amount of items. When we got there (in the middle of the lunch hour) the items were either cold or not filled (which meant we had 2 things to choose from for meat). We got our first plate (small with cold naan, cold rice, and some mysterious meat and curry... because there was no label) and then waited for them to fill the items on the buffet, but they NEVER (over the span of an hour) did. Our second plate consisted of rice and the leftover sauce from the curry meats, because we wanted to try and get our moneys worth. Even with the discount from purchasing a Groupon (which really wasnt worth it either). If you are in the Columbia area and want a decent buffet (worth the cost) and all around experience/food quality, etc, do yourself a favor and go to India House.Oh and by the way, when it says two buffets and a drinks. The drink is for soda only none of the specialty drinks, which should have been advertised properly in the fine print. The only time I would go eat at this place is if it were free and I was starving and had no other choice. The service was also terrible, I had to go get my own check, she took 20 minutes to bring us water and the two drinks that came with the Groupon. I believe they should rethink their fine print to state, please do not tip us as we arent going to have good service anyway. Tipping is for service not just a surplus required cost added because we bought something. When did people/companies decide that tips were a requirement?!?! I am not stingy when it comes to tipping... but to tip on a buffet, means they better be cleaning plates and bringing me refills on my drinks that I paid for...I am always down for trying places at least once or twice to give it a fair review, but I will not waste my time, calories, or money at this place ever again.
Food was good except naan was cold. The decor could have been better. Not planning to return.
Great food, worked with me to make my meal Keto friendly!!
The food was amazing, the atmosphere was so peaceful, the service was awesome and the prices were very reasonable.
New location-Same delicious food, SAME SLOW SERVICE!Ive been a loyal customer of Taj Mahal for about 5+ years. Ive been to the new location about 6-8 times since it opened. The buffet food is still great but I know some friends now REFUSE to go there anymore because of being neglected by staff. OLD LOCATION took forever to get some water NEW BUILDING now you wait for silverware, too!!!!Only two times at the new location have I not had to wait at least 10-15 minutes for someone to bring me water and silverware so I can start my meal.11/22/13-Took a friend who hadnt been back to Taj Mahal in 3 YEARS for the sunday lunch buffet. We were greeted and shown to a seat, so staff knew of our prescence. She told us to help ourselves, so we went and got our food. Returned to our seat, no silverware! Waited 10 minutes, so I went to the bar myself and grabbed 2 silverware rolls! No water, so I went to the buffet, grabbed glasses, went back to the bar, and poured water from the pitchers sitting there so we could proceeded with our meal.Saw the woman bring a pitcher of water like she was about to pour us some when wed already been seated for about 20-30 minutes!!! Seemed surprised when she saw we had some and left. So disappointed!!!!!!!!!! Very apprehensive about taking any future business associates or personal outings there due to this continued problem.
Should be negative stars.Terrible service and really gross. The server almost misplaced our credit card and she also did the same for the table next to us. Food was not great at all. We found out week after we dined here that they were charged for violating health and food safety standards . And it was something 20 violations. Which is terrifying.
Hands down the best Indian food in Columbia. I recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala with Lamb Seekh Kabob.
