Amazing food, beautiful ambience, good prices and warm service. I went w a group of friends, all of us found something delicious to have for breakfast. I had a sort of lamb pastry, it was fabulous. Very savory and well crafted flavors. We shared a caramel apple french toast, it was also very good. My latte was just on point and my friends also enjoyed their dishes. We are from Kansas City but we will definitely return when we visit Des Moines. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👌🏻
If you are hungry but want to spend money on buying nothing, please get the granola bowl. There was nothing to be seen worth $12… 1/4 cup of yogurt with 1/4 cup of granola and a couple berries.. and lavender cream that wasn’t anything other than whipped cream from a can... the place has really lowered their standards. I haven’t gone since they first opened and wow, what a decline. OR my standards are just higher. A “fancy” and over priced Starbucks :/Service was slow and not very genuine. No one wears masks even though it’s a global pandemic. I even know some of the staff to be “progressive” but they obviously care more about their lipstick than keeping people safe. We also had to ask for our checks even though no one else was in the restaurant.
Food and coffee were excellent. I ordered the salmon dish which came with lentils, kale and poached eggs. The lentils were so creamy, rich and delicious, a definite star of the dish and complemented the salmon perfectly. I had a cortado and it was really yummy. We also tried the chefs special I believe the bbq pork, rice and spring onion pickle dish and thought it was cooked really well. Nice bold flavours from meat and pickles.
Great atmosphere and vibe. Ordered the Spanish Eggs which came with chorizo, but when it was served there wasn’t any. Asked about it and was told it used to come with chorizo, and they forgot to take it off the menu (and I guess the website). I shared that I ordered it for that reason, and just got an “I’m sorry…” Had to suggest that the item be removed from the bill, since no other options were presented. Poor customer service, and do not plan on returning.
Fantastic food was great very clean the staff are super friendly and good service! Food came quickly. Will definitely be going back!
Fantastic food that is high quality and flavorful. The atmosphere and decor of the place is one of the best parts. They are struggling with servers it seems, just like everyone else in the industry. The people that we had that day did the best they could, but seemed like they were overwhelmed by the amount of people they were trying to serve. Our server did seem new and inexperienced, but was very pleasant and tried the best that he could. I highly recommend this place for breakfast or lunch. Please be considerate of the servers, though, as they assist many others it seemed. They did seem to be doing their best and I enjoyed my experience as well as tremendous food.
Such a great place with great food but man does the customer service SUCK! I travel across the states to try out different restaurants and I sure did not feel welcomed—so much that I was just handed the bill without being asked if I wanted something else (which I did) or simply ask “how was the food?” just like any other server would typically do. Having a great location with great food is more than just taking orders and handing out plates. You have to build connections with customers so that they can go back because at the end of the day, the quality of the food does not even matter without great customer service. Despite my experience, I would definitely recommend giving it a try. Salmon with the pouched egg was good. (It’s hard for me to give anything less than 5 stars and it sucks that I had to give 3 stars)
Wow! This place is amazing! I’m a well traveled New Yorker and this has got to be one of my top breakfast places anywhere. I had the salmon and eggs. Amazing! Eggs perfectly poached. Salmon with wonderfully crispy skin. Whole dish was fantastic and beautifully prepared. Wish I had taken photo before I devoured it. Service was great. Everyone is super friendly. Beautiful place / atmosphere. I’ll go out of my way to come back if I can.
Not to busy on weekdays during breakfast. Made a 10 am appointment and almost no one was there. I got the breakfast sandwich and it was amazing! Definitely will get it again. My friend got the breakfast tacos and she loved them as well. Also tried both the chai tea and matcha latte and would recommend those as well.
We went here today for lunch. This place would get a 3 and half stars if there was a half. The food was decent but a very limited menu. They did have outside seating which was a plus and all the wait staff wore mask and served at a distance. I had the pork Cubans which was very good. The ladies had the salmon and the berries toast. I recommend getting the mango smoothie very good. The price was on the high end for this type of place but not bad. I would go back but would try some place else 1st.
Been coming here for years! My favorite thing is to sit at the bar by the big window and sip on a delicious latte made with oat milk! I could go on and on about the food ; my favorite are the Salmon and Eggs or Veggie Sandwich with Salmon! The staff is always welcoming and friendly! As a guest you can feel such positive energy radiating from them!
DELICIOUS! Real food made from HIGH QUALITY ingredients. Very healthy AND flavorful!! We had 3 kids with us and they all found something they really liked to eat. Service was excellent. Coffee was awesome. Prices were a little high but that is to be expected for such high quality food - and I dont think it was OVERpriced at all. Highly recommend this restaurant.
We decided to go on a weekday as weekends are SO busy and Im very happy we did. Basically though it doesnt live up to the hype.Pros:Decor is Beautiful.Staff are super nice.Food and drinks were beautifully and quickly prepared.Eggs were cooked to perfection.Bacon was thick and juicy. The glasses were super clean and clear. The water was delicious.Prices are super reasonable.Cons:The space is smallish & the chairs are close together. The machines are very loud. Seriously. I could not think. The menu is super limited. (Not allergy friendly at all and missing basic condiments or alternatives).Staff do not wear masks. The coffee is not good.
Excellent choice for an eclectic brunch. I had the lamb and would gladly reorder. Outstanding coffee, too. My dining companion, a foodie from New Orleans, concurs.
Decided to stop for a coffee, was not disappointed. Was great quality coffee beans and great people. My only complain might be that they did not have much pastries that day, buy it was still pretty good.
Ended up eating here on a whim, glad we did because the food was exceptional! The cheddar chive biscuit sandwich was massive and so tasty! But more impressive were the country peas! So much flavor from the peas and the pairing of the ricotta and truffle!
Good brunch spot with trendy fare. It was easy to get a table for 2 and a short wait for a table for 6. The food was reasonably priced and quality was generally good. The only complaint was that the meat in the steak and eggs was a bit sinewy and chewy. Service was prompt and friendly. We were in and out in less than an hour.
Salmon and eggs is the best breakfast in Des Moines. Consistent as well.
Delicious fresh food with a good variety. I have had the avocado toast and their baked French toast. The avocado toast was delicious and the pomegranate pieces on it added a nice flavor. I was not a fan of the baked French toast because the almonds were very salty and it gave the dish a weird taste. Other then that our food was excellent and my latte was delicious as well.
This is the best food we found in Des Moines. We loved it so much we came here two days in a row. The first day I got the grain bowl which was not only very tasty but super healthy, so I felt great after. The next day we got the salmon & eggs. The salmon was cooked to perfection where it had a light external crunch and the rest melts in your mouth. We also got the Saint breakfast sandwich (pictured). The housemade ginger sausage was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. 10/10 would have that again. Even the homemade jam was delicious. The staff was friendly and efficient despite being very busy. If we come back to Des Moines, we are eating here first and probably the next day again too.
BEST CUBAN IN TOWN! As a person who just loves explosive flavors, this Cuban didn’t disappoint. It’s a a super nice little cute location that produces not only great food but a hot cup of coffee with a nice shot to pep start your day! Service could’ve been a bit better considering the price of the food, but the food was very very good!
Our favorite place to eat. We come several times a week. We always eat outside. Today we went in because of the weather....we were uncomfortable with none of the staff masked. We moved outside and took our chance with the rain . We would be more comfortable if the staff were masked for their own and our protection. It says something about this time and the DELTA viariant....it is not over. Thank you.
Visiting from Minneapolis and found this great stop for a trendy, fresh food type of lunch. The atmosphere was modern and chic. We had the salmon club and Turkey sandwich- both were incredible- fresh ingredients, rich flavors, and very filling. We might even grab food for the road tomorrow because it was so good. I would highly recommend!
Wow! I’m visiting from New York and have never had food like this before. I ordered the avocado toast with poached egg and it was outstanding! Such a unique and delicious blend of flavors. Yum!!
The Chef has created a menu beyond compare. The dishes have such full flavor and incredible ingredients that your palette will be satiated! The portions are perfect and the presentation is artistic. The atmosphere is beautiful, however, the clientele is young and fashionable and the temperature is a bit chilly. The food is so spectacular that I will return to try each item on the menu! Enjoy!
Stopped here not expecting to have the best pozole rojo I’ve ever had, but that’s what I got. The green chili Benedict were wonderful as well. We would stop here again.
Beautiful shop with a tasteful interior design! Excellent customer service, they were willing to redo a drink despite the fact that I had made the mistake when ordering! Will be back again!
This place is really good! I just got the Spanish eggs and they are so tasty! I stop here every time I pass through Des Moines
Brunch was tasty. Some unique combinations I had not thought of, such as hot honey. Service was not friendly. It just felt like we were bothering them. Sorry for trouble.
Best mocha I have ever had! Great food! Great service! Will definitely be back even though it’s and hour drive!!!!
The food (and the coffee) are fantastic-- every. Time. Clean and balanced. A little pricey imo but a nice treat. (Did I mention the coffee is amazing?)
The food was fresh and delicious and the service was great. Definitely a cute place Id go back to if Im in the area!Only slight downside is street parking gets full very quickly.
I have dined there previously many times with family and friends that went very well. This time I had started with a glass of water that had lipstick stains on it. The lemonade and iced coffee were well prepared, but when the food came out bacon was closer to burnt and had an aftertaste and the bread the my wife had was so hard she had struggled to bite threw it that she didnt eat half of her meal. Our waitress was making an effort, but after dropping a cup of coffee I am just chalking this experience up to one bad day at this location. I hope if we return it will be back to our previous experiences.
Coffee and ambiance and flavors were great. But the food came out cold, which may have been because the host served it rather than the waitress, who was busy busing tables. Management should rethink distribution of tasks.
The food is amazing! Service is not as amazing. Took a long time for anybody to greet us and be seated and take our food order.
Me and my boyfriend went for breakfast Saturday morning for the first time. I was very excited to try it since the pictures online looked pretty good. The service was alright, so was the food. Nothing crazy. I got a Bloody Mary and it was very disappointing and did NOT taste good. I told the server if I could exchange it for something else and she said they couldn’t do that. Why would I pay for a drink that was disgusting? I was very disappointed by the way the server handled it, not provided me any other options. I will definitely not be coming back, very disappointed. You are not missing out on anything. Didn’t not feel welcomed at this place at all.
Franka’s pizzeria in the east village has the best pizza crust!! They’re awesome pizza’s and salad’s 😀 everything tastes great and the staff is amazing 🤩
Service was very disrespectful. Food portions were quite small. Paying a lot of money for the combination of bad service and resentment.Dont eat here.
Food was excellent, presentation, top notch! Drinks were small but Delish. Loved the atmosphere!
Adorable, spotless, fabulous menu with tons of delicious options for folks with gluten and dairy sensitivities. Coffee is legit, ridiculously smooth. Beet and goat cheese salad with a runny poached egg... delicious. Mushroom toast is earthy, crunchy, yum. Soundtrack includes The Smiths on heavy rotation. Perfect perfect perfectSunday morning breakfast spot.
St. Kilda has some great eclectic dishes. We went for breakfast I had the breakfast tacos which were delicious. My husband had the cubano sandwich... we are from South Florida and he said that sandwich could compete with the Cuban sandwiches back home. Definitely, high praise from him... go try it and let us know what you think!
Go to brunch place. Great can coffee and great mix of sweet and savory options. They are dig friendly on the patio as well!!
Want some Aussie inspiration? Then this is the place to go. St Kilda has a cool-hip atmosphere with exceptionally great service. The food presentation is also spot on and everything tastes fresh. I appreciate the large plates and gluten free options. There are free street parking available which is a plus for downtown. Definitely recommend this place to locals and DSM visitors. Cheers!
The food was amazing, but the service lacked towards the end of our meal. Im not sure what happened. It was like our server vanished. Ill return at a later time and give them another shot!
Helpful staff, excellent lunch options. Lower level can be a bit loud for lunch meetings, the upstairs landing is better.
We had a late breakfast here on April 24th. My wife and I shared the cheddar chive biscuit sandwich along with bubble and squeek. Both were interesting and tasty. I especially liked the biscuit of the sandwich and the smoked tomatoes from the egg entree. My daughter has eaten here before and again enjoyed their avocado toast. This would have been a solid 4 star experience were it not for the service. Our waitress offered to bring water and failed to do so until we later inquired. I ordered an Arnold Palmer. No one checked on us to see how the food was or offered to refill my empty glass for over 30-40 minutes. When they finally did return to our table, I requested another beverage without being offered. It was then another 10-15 minutes before one arrived as we were preparing to leave. I hurriedly took a couple of swallows. They charged me for what is often considered a refill. The menu indicates their lemonade is fresh warranting a second charge ... had I time to drink it.
We recently visited Des Moines from Kansas City and agreed that of all the places we ate, we wish we could bring St. Kilda back to KC with us! Both the iced coffee and salmon torta were WONDERFUL and we enjoyed having breakfast on the outdoor patio.
Excellent breakfast n coffee. And a well-behaved dog can sit with you at an outside table if its not too crowded.
My friend and I were excited to try this place out because of pictures online, it looked very nice so we stopped in for a drink and potential breakfast. Our server came to our table and we ordered a bloody and a mimosa. It took 10 minutes (there were about 9 other guests in the whole restaurant) to get them and when we received our drinks there was a rock or piece of dirt in my mimosa and the server WATCHED me pick it out and did not even offer me a new one or anything. Both drinks were terrible, my friend couldn’t take more than a sip from her bloody because it was so bad. The drinks both were $8 and my mimosa was about 4oz. I ordered a grapefruit one and it tasted only like the champagne. On top of everything our server did not stop to check on us once even though he walked by several times while we sat there not drinking our drinks, just very disappointed. Overall, not worth the visit or $$.
Stopped by St Kilda during a long drive, and very happy that we went a little out of our way to give it a shot. Outdoor seating with shade, a small but diverse menu that emphasizes flavor and presentation, and a nice cocktail menu made for a wonderful lunch experience. All of the staff were kind and prompt and they have done a great job of trying to keep both staff and customers safe during the pandemic.
Unique and delicious items on the menu. Breakfast served ALL DAY!
I had the Salmon and Eggs with a fresh squeezed Mimosa. Both were excellent. I love the atmosphere and our waiter was phenomenal and extremely personable. Adding to: I was able to have dinner this time around and was very impressed. I had the mushroom toast and the roast chicken with brussel sprouts and fingerling potatoes. The drink of the evening was a Bannermans Arsenal. Everything I had was great again and again another experience of great service. Being twice and will continue to go back.
Super yummy sourdough toast and everything was so good! Friendly place to take your peeps out for a fun time. Our neighborhood is lucky to have it here.
Great Avocado toast with poached eggs. Great service-great vibe!
The best coffee is town, dont go anywhere else.
Amazing coffee. Really nice owners.
The family enjoyed lunch here. The restaurant is a good use of what, in a previous life, must have been a warehouse. Good selection of coffees, wines, teas, and cocktails, as well as a good menu selection. Wife had fish tacos and daughter had Avocado Toast w/poached egg. I had Lamb Kleftico. Braised lamb with with puff-pastry and tomato chutney, and was superb! The fish tacos were mahi-mahi, and were delicious. Daughter enjoyed the Avocado Toast. Definitely a chic place while visiting Des Moines.
The rumors are the place is going down, but we didnt know that before we came for breakfast. Some of the food was fine, but the scrambled eggs were undercooked, the toast was overdried and was actually a crouton, which made a screeching sound on your teeth when you bite it. The cappuccino was tasty, but the waitress spilled it a lot. We were also served by 2 different waiters, but even that did not help the wait times, and the food was already cold when it reached our table.
Just had a nice lunch here. Was a bit busy due to spring break, but they got our party of 3 seated at a big table in 5-10 minutes. The wait staff was very polite and efficient; we got our drinks and food very quickly! The presentation and taste was very nice and perfect for the price point. I had a mocha and cubano. Will definitely be returning :)
As usual the service is never great....I could always overlook that because the coffee and the menu/food was fantastic! Just went on Sunday after about a 6 week layoff and sadly the new breakfast menu has changed and certainly not for the better. Let’s just say myself and the group I was with will certainly think twice about going back. Was always a favorite of mine for sure...how do you get rid of the full egg plate??? Such a classic that sadly is gone! RIP St Kilda...miss my old friend.
Great staff, great menu. The wait is well worth it.
This place was awesome! From everyones reviews we decided to order the Australian Coffee(ice cream), Avocado Toast, Green Chili Benedict! We loved them all and will be back forsure when we are in Des Moines again!
