This a great place to go to when your cooking Asian food. My one complaint as always, i wish you could have someone to help you out explaing things. Even though this place has the best selection, smaller Asian stores do more to explain everything. I love when people realize I want to understand their culture and food and are excited to help you.

The ABSOLUTE BEST Asian market in Des Moines / Central Iowa. Delicious options to choose from. Try the Pantai Chili Sauce on everything from Spring Rolls to even Salmon. Yummy.

Its an Asian store. They do have sugarcane... the only reason for me to go since C-fresh opened. The store needs a fresh new look, but Im afraid that this wont happen. The store smell very fishy and not as clean as C-fresh. I am so for this store to continue to do well, but they do need some fixes.

As an African, I sometimes want to cook my own favorite spicy dishes to my own taste. This is where I can buy all of the ingredients I want for my dish. Fresh okra, hot chili peppers, and just to name a few. But of course, chinese spicies are dominant. Mask mandatory.

I love love love double dragon food market for all my Asian food needs. Especially good for vietnamese, chinese, japanese, korean, and Indian food. Good prices and great authentic food. Always a bit chaotic and smells fishy inside, but the meat counter, frozen section, and all the options are amazing.

Great market. Dont go in expecting Hy-Vee. This is an Asian market. They have items in every nook and cranny of the building. You will find a huge selection of items such as fruits, vegetables, fish and everything else.Also, they have friendly employees who will help you find what you need. Its definitely worth a trip to see a real market.

Fantastic place!A bit difficult to navigate, but if youre looking for an obscure ingredient its the place to go! There are also some pretty great deals on produce and tea here.

They have everything I need to prepare Asian Style meals and very reasonable pricing.Their massive inventory makes it a little hard to find some things..but its well worth the search. The sea food odor can be a little overpowering so if you are smell sensitive..be prepared.

Great selection of food, the fish I buy from them is fresh, fresh vegetables I cant find elsewhere and a clean environment. The reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 5 is because there is a language barrier and staff should be a bit more friendly. I will return here again.

Reasonable price

Lots of variety and cheaper prices for many oriental foods and fresh dip your own shrinps, many fruits, bulk spices, better Ramen, Pho broth cubes, squid jerky, cooking utensils and about anything oriental including green eggs.

Great little place to stop in if you need a few items that are not in a traditional grocery store.

Its basically ethnic and cluttered and you will find what your looking for. Korean background in my family so certain ingredients to keep it homemade. It is dirty but free of chemicals so really its safe to shop and I dont like the cardboard separators because they cause cockroaches to breed. That insect likes it clean and once there in you can count on externanatuon which would cripple sales for this place.

Love coming here to get what we need for particular recipes.. Love finding new things to try as well.

This store have alot of fresh vegetables and fresh Asian fruit, a lot of snack too. If you look for ingredients for Pho, this is the place you have to stop by. They also have live blue crab when theyre in season. Too bad they dont carry live dungeons crab anyone. In New year you can get yellow mum, lucky money pocket, fresh annona, coconut,papaya mango and sweet dry fruits.

All those electronic devices the bought for the store and yet they choose to manually enter the prices instead of using a scanner? Im sure its not because a scanner wouldnt be in their best financial interest. Money wasnt wasted on cleaning supplies either.

There are several Asian markets in Des Moines, and while I feel that Double Dragon only has the second best selection (behind C-Fresh Market), it is nevertheless my favorite Asian grocer in town by far.Why? The ambience. C-Fresh is clearly Asian market repartee placed onto the shelves of an abandoned generic American grocery store. Theres even still a bust of an Italian-American stereotype of a chef looming over what is now a Phó restaurant. I mean, the place has got it where it counts, with the best selection in town, but the ambience just sorta wrecks the experience, and makes it all seem so plastic.Double Dragon has the atmosphere, the ambience, and the vibe to make it all feel so much more authentic, and is a close enough second place in terms of selection to warrant the bald hedonism of going there just for the experience.Ill go to C-Fresh if I strike out at Double Dragon, or if Im in too big of a hurry to go two places and am after something really niche, or if past experience has told me Double Dragon doesnt have it.But for everything else, Id much rather go to the place where walking through the door feels like youre walking through a portal to the other side of the world, than to the place where walking through the door feels just like....well....walking through a door, and you half expect Gerry Raffertys Baker Street to come on over the P.A. at any moment.Double Dragon is my first stop shop for Asian culinary delight and adventure nine times out of ten. And if you havent been there....you really need to fix that! With all the things going on in Des Moines these days, especially in and near downtown, it may seem a strange pick indeed to call a rundown old Asian grocery store on the near north side one of my favorite places in town....but what can I say, I just love it there! Culinary delight and adventure on offer on every shelf, with the atmosphere to match.Cheers!p.s. occasionally, Ill hit one of the other markets in town - and there are other good ones such as Jungs or the one in the East Village. Once in a while, Ill do it just for the change of pace. But most of the time its only if Im in the immediate vicinity without the time or the opportunity to drive to the DD/C-F area. But the reason this review treats DD/C-F as the only games in town is because collectively they so dominate my time in this arena.

Great place to buy African delicacies and food stuff in the absence of real African stores in Des Moines area.

Its got anything from the old country ASIA, and its very cool to come in and grab special sodas, candies, and bulk noodles you cant find anywhere else.

Its a great oriental shore has about everything you can dream of for oriental cooking. Problem is I dont know what a lot of things are. And I dont know Chinese.

Nice place for hard to find items

I can find all fresh ingredients and vegetables on Thursday here and live blue crab on Tuesday in October and November. But the seafood and meat section smells horrible, need better way to ventilation and dispose the seafood smells.

It smells due to the fish market inside but they have a very large variety of items for Asian cuisine. I have always gotten wonderful customer service there.

If youre looking for hard to find items this place has it. Heck they even have frozen silkworms and fresh fish.

Best Asian store ive been too the food is great they have great decoration to pit in my house they sell lovely tea sets and have everything i need to set up my Buddhist shrine all though it could mabey be cleaned up otherwise i give it five stars

My favorite asian market! Being vegan and chinese food go hand in hand and this is the place to get everything you need.

I originally went to Double Dragon Food Marker to look for some mochiko (sweet rice flour) to make Hanami-styled dango even though its way past Hanami season. I ended up purchasing a few things (some Mogu Mogu, udon noodles, and some snacks) but was unable to find mochiko. I felt a bit like a fish out of water as the isles werent marked, food was placed in various places and it was rather disorienting to try to pinpoint where anything was. I felt they desperately needed to re-arrange the store to make things a bit... less harsh on the eyes. Haha. The isles were a tad bit small and the place had quite a strange smell (aside from the fishy odor), but aside from that everyone was kind and had a big smile on their faces.

Best selection by far. Cant wait to go back and try more new things.

This place is a total mess. It stinks big time. The IOWA Department of Trade and Industry should visit this place and this store should follow an ordinance to make sure that this place is clean. How could you expect their products are safe if the place itself is nasty??? They should hire more people to clean this store, to arrange well the items like walmart, hyvee and other grocery stores in the country. With the amount of the asian products they are selling, they are over-priced, they should spend more on work-force. I cant even hardly stand the smell of this store. It is awesome that Asians like myself could found the kinds of foods we want, but, we sure want a clean place as well where we could feel the need for the foods to be clean as well.
