If you are looking for spices, cheeses, halal meat, prepared foods & breads from a range of cuisines. I found injera & naan as well as phyllo dough. Bulgarian feta cheese, paneer, & labneh along with a large assortment of other cheeses from northern Africa, the Mediterranean, Middle East, Indian & Pakistan. I was able to get harissa for a Moroccan lamb tagine; paneer & spices to make palak paneer from northern India; & baklava.The variety is great & the staff are so incredibly nice. If you cant find something, they can help & make suggestions for dishes you want to make. They are also willing to order specific foods if customers frequently request them.Its a small store with huge variety.

Good place for halal meat!

I love shopping here! It’s the best place in town to find a plethora of Middle Eastern goodies. Halal Grocery is very clean, organized nicely and operated by super kind people.

One employee asked a few employees of they needed help finding anything. Employee at the register was polite, too. Excellent selection, definitely coming back.

Very organized grocery store

Very small but had good items. Diverse product selection. Good food items. Large selection of cookies and sweets...pistachio cookies and things I couldnt get anywhere else. Owner was very nice and helpful. A culturally diverse group of shoppers. It is kind of out of the way and you could easily miss it because its right in the community and not off of a busy street, youd have to be looking for it to find it. This isnt a bad thing as it is easily accessible for people in the community.

They have mostly what you need. Their Halal Meat is the best both in taste and price.. I have lived here for 10yrs and I am glad I finally find a place to get good affordable halal meet. Its a 1hr drive for me but its worth it.

One of the things we have been looking for all over Des Moines was goat meat, we have searched many grocery stores, but Hilal grocer was the first place we found that had what we wanted. Any Curry or Indian spices you are looking for, this place will have.

I really like this place! i came for the baklava, persian rosewater, and ended up purchasing an area rug because theyre so inexpensive. however i felt a bit awkward, perhaps unwelcome?, in a tank top while the other women were covered head to toe. the clerk (owner?) is always very friendly nevertheless. interesting place!

Hilal Groceries is a one stop shop for everything and anything you need. The owners are extremely nice and the store is very organized and clean. The Hilal chicken is the best. If you havent had a chance to stop by, please do so and you wont be disappointed.
